Setting default install - Flipside General

Well on my other phones http://androinica.com/2010/08/how-to-install-apps-to-the-sd-card-by-default-on-android-2-2-froyo/ worked. The phone is running 2.2.2. It says error unknown command setinstalllocation. Anyway to fix this? My phone needs more memory space badly. Works well on my GS 2 and LG P500.

you should try using Titanium Backup

Just so you know... the apps2sd that is flashable there is dark tremors... it moves davlik cache as well

Broken market...fml

Anything I download on the market gets stuck at the "starting download" phase. I have tried Googling answers and nothing is working for me.
My market was fine before I applied the OTB test4 ul 1300 then updated back to my OTB 1.1 lv 1200 , which was stable for me, due to freezing issues with that test4. Any help would be greatly appreciated. . .

Try clearing data/cache for the market.
Did you uninstall Google talk services or anything else similiar besides the actual app? Because that breaks the market downloading.

I used to have this problem all the time and it seemed like it was something different that fixed it on each occasion. Try clearing all market data and cache. Try backing up the APK, uninstalling it, and again clearing data/cache before replacing it. At the worst, use Titanium Backup and start over from scratch.

Ahh crap guys... I'm at work and yeah I've tried clearing the cache. I didn't uninstall anything recently either... what's this APK? I could teach myself how to do what the last poster said if I was pointed in the right direction.
Much love

My market is currently broken too with the exact same situation... I have reflashed the ROM and Kernel with no luck... And have also messed with cleaning the cache... I cant download Titanium backup currently from the market and I'm out of energy to try that until the morning but any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated...
I often have problems with this but I find that being on wifi really helps. If that's not available then if I start then stop the download it eventually will go through.

I fixed it in my case by reinstalling rom with caution

vending.apk -- the application file itself which is located in /system/app/. You can back it up by using the adb pull command if you're familiar with adb, or just copy it to your phone's SD card using Root Explorer or terminal commands.

Custom MTD Partitions for the Wildfire, My Findings

Hi all.
I'm sorry first of all on creating a new thread as I'm not allowed to add to dev posts.
I have created Custom MTD Partitions of : 140, 5
using CyanogenMod 7 Nightly: 220
(New Market)
I have tried to download a game third blade and i get an error of insufficient space
like ''Hanakie'' in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233340
I have downgraded the market now to an old one and now able to download this game.
I am going to try tonight to upgrade the market from old to new but not a fresh install of a rom and see if if Im still able to. I will post my findings when done.
ps I would like to thank all the Developers here for for making my phone awesome and interesting til my next upgrade and then will have 2 phones to tinker with.
5mb cache is too low i had the same problem
edit: cm7 should move cache files to data/local if they are larger but this dont work for me i got the low memory message
Only problem I had with 5mb cache was in clockwork recovery, I always got an error as there wasn't enough space for it to write a log.

I have tried these MTD Partitions: 140,5 140,10 140,20 140,25 and 140,35 with same results.
Im currently running at 145,45 as i know works great, but would like to see if i can get a little more space.
I like to try everything on here lol i love beta testing.
Hi apollo, can you please clarify whether you are using any sort of Apps2SD stuff? (Except for the built in one in CM)

You were able to fit the latest CM Nightly on a 110MB /system partition? Did you go for a barebones build? AFAIK, the standard CM will not fit on a 110MB system partition. (Unless of course, it is stripped)
its not bearbone as such ujst took out all ringtones, all but on each alarm tone and notification tone and removed some of the not needed apps from the rom like email, music player (got power amp), cm wallpapers, live wallpapers u get the picture
hi 3xeno (thank you for your hard work)
I'm not using any Apps2SD any more as wanted all my stuff on internal memory.
i did a
1. wipe/factory reset
2. MTD Partitions Guide but instead of restoring from backup i did a fresh flash of
cm7 nightly 220
3. Then flashed gapps-gb-20110828 for Market

Did u flashed bravo boot after all these steps?
Is anyone except me able to run 5mb cache without market and recovery errors?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
I had it running with the market fine, just got a can't write a log error in recovery if my cache was full. Recovery still worked fine manually but wouldn't do the auto backups from rom manager etc etc....

miui problems

hey guys miui is pissing me off big time. for the last three releases the phone app keeps force closing with a "com.android.phone has force closed" error ever since like january. thats the only problem with these releases. if i turn data off, it works just fine with receiving and making calls but with data on nothing. if i make a call i can hear the call in the background like if i call voice mail i can hear the lady being like "you have no messages" but while i can hear that the force close app is in my face. if i hit force close, the service like resets itself like the bars get the X on them and it says no service then it regains it. please help i tried copying the phone apk from an older miui release but miui wont let me install it it says its installing but then its like "app was not installed".
Well with the phone apk you'll most likely have to push it with adb or with a file manager to your system apps
You can't just install a system app the way you do with a normal app. You have to use adb to push it to the system or use a root browser to put it in the system apps, but don't forget to change the permissions before you reboot and you should be golden. You might wanna try a FULL wipe and fresh install tho
---------- Post added at 09:20 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:19 AM ----------
I would also recommend trying MIUI Pyromod v1.0 if you like MIUI enough to be going without data
I would try a FULL wipe, I used to run MIUI on the Speedy from time to time and never had these issues.
Go into recovery select mounts and storage and then format system, format SD EXT IF IT'S PRESENT don't wipe the SD card just the EXT. Then format data and format cache, head back to the main menu of recovery and select advanced and wipe dalvik cache.(some say the dalvik part is redundant BUT I do it anyways and have never had a flawed flash with this wipe method and I'm about 2k flashes in lol)I hope this helps you in some way

My MIUI for EVO Shift is well.
The problem is from framework.jar's CdmaCallTracker.smali.
My MIUI(Port from miui.com's desire z,i'm a chinese so it's different from miui.us):http://www.diypda.com/forum.php?mod...tra=page=1&filter=sortall&sortall=1&sortall=1
OK so can I just delete that call tracker thing? And can someone show me how to push an app? I have the android sdk on my desktop ready to go

Try Pyromod MIUI I haven't heard of any force closes with the phone.apk for that rom.
I have tried it before, it was really laggy compared to the current ones. So there really isn't a way to fix this error?

View attachment framework.jar
use my framework.jar to replace miui.us 2.3.30's framework.jar
and must wipe dalvik-cache

That's interesting you say that because Pyromod MIUI is available for more than one device and people always say it's the best MIUI rom

Thanks alot, I used the CdmaCallTracker.smali from an older version of MIUI with the latest Miui.us ROM and all seems to work well.

Apk can't install due to n7 thinking not enough space

OK title kinda says it all. I have 4.28 GB left on my 16gb n7 trying to install a couple apps from apk files. I'm getting a warning that it can't install due to not enough memory and the n7 requests that I remove apps. The files don't go over 40mb in total so I'm confused as hell as to why its telling me I'm short non file space.
I tried fixing permissions clearing cache and dalvik but no luck. Anyone have a clue as to why it thinks this.
Running stock 4.2 unlocked rooted with trinity kernel.

It might be b/c when the apps you're going to install will be updated in the future and the N7 has a built in limit in other words the apps will go beyond the limit good luck and GOD BLESS YOU Oh yeah you might have to bite the bullet and delete some other apps

You probably have a left over .odex file for an app left in /system/app
Titanium backup has an option to look for orphaned dalvik files as well.
I had the same issue. I downloaded "Lucky Patcher" (google it) and went to Menue>Troubleshooting>Remove fixes and backups
That fixed the problem for me.
I have the same issue. I'm trying different approaches. About the post above... It won't let me install lucky patcher either. I'll try doing it in adb next.

I had the same problem and tried several things to fix.. The only solution to the problem was to indeed use Lucky Patcher... Use it to clear and then reboot and back to happy application installation...

It's because you have orphaned Odex files in system/app or data/app
Naughty naughty. Usually created by a cracked app.
Lucky Patcher makes the Problem go.
The Trick with using lucky patcher worked! Thanks man! I had the same Problem.

[Q] Deleting partially downloaded app data?

Yesterday as I was trying out games that were compatible with my new bluetooth controller, I tried downloading The Dark Knight Returns (since it was a compatible game and I had purchased it when it was on sale some months back on the Play store). Well, apparently I did not have enough space to install the game unfortunately. So when it seemed as if it was near it's finish downloading, there was an error message that was on the status bar that let me know I did not have enough space. So the file did not finish downloading or installing. When I exited the install, i noticed that the storage space error was still present. So I restarted the phone. Still had the same error message and very minimal storage available when I checked the internal storage. I cleared the cache of the Play store, tried clearing dalvic cache on Titanium (wasn't sure if that'd work) and also looked in Root File Explorer for any files that may have been installed by the game. Couldn't find any files so I was unsure where they were located, but the storage was still low. I uninstalled one more app, went back to the play store, tried to continue installing, and it finished install this time. Then I quickly deleted the game and my storage space was back to normal. My question is this. Is there any way in the future where I can delete this data without having to complete an install? I am rooted on JB 2.1.1. I have Titanium Backup, Root Explorer, and some other tools. This storage error has happened on a couple different occasions and I'm wondering if there is still some partially downloaded app data still on the phone somewhere using up space. I have been unsuccessful in my search for an answer to what seems to be a fairly simple problem, but then again maybe I'm not looking in the right place. Any help would be great!
Thought this would be an easy one that somebody would have solved. No?
Sent from my XT907 using xda app-developers app
I would assume its partial download data... No idea how to fix it other than guesstimating your free space and how much the app needs tho...
Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk 2
I'm going to try to do that, but my estimation of available space is not always correct since some apps require more space than necessary to install. I'm referring more to what has already been done so that I can remove anything that may currently be partially installed or downloaded.
