Touchpad as mouse in 4.0 MAYBE!!! - Xperia Play General

Hi. We PLAY users will maybe get the option to use the touchpad as a mouse MULTI TOUCH. Try Doomlords 4.0 leaked rom BUT NOT UPDATE ANYTHING. THEN YOU WILL SEE WHAT I MEAN!
Touchpad with the same functions as a mouse like this

In ICS you can use the tozchpads as touchscreen very easy. There is only one file to change.

Touch pad as a mouse would be great on the browser imo.
Left stick for pointer and right stick for scrollilng, and obviously the face buttons for standard fuctions like X to select (left click), O as right click, square for stop/refresh page and triangle for back.
It would make selecting links so easy, and browsing far more enjoyable.

That would be nice, but I would prefer using the L and R buttons for selecting/right clicking.

The touchpad is a dual touch surface, so I would use dual swiping to scroll up and down, and single swiping to move the cursor around. The triggers can be used to go back and forward, the X button for selections, and the other 3 could be assigned to different functions (Bookmarks, Refresh, and Share).

This is potentially great for the Onlive app. Once Onlive supports mouse input on their mobile app, this could be a game changer.

ScummVM.
Try playing anything in ScummVM with the touchscreen, particularly pixel hunting puzzles. It's a nightmare. The whole time playing I think "I wish the touchpads could work as a mouse." This is a great development.

Swype, lovin it..

Does this beta app expire or is swype for life and not just for xmas? Sorry for that.... Only thing I am missing is the smiley's from the stock keyboard, but this is a rapid input method. A good quality car wax helps screen swiping. Anybody dislike it?

swpe is way better than the stock keyboard from the x10
sadly the only prob I see is the fact of not being able to select easier a letter to delete it
I love swype but it is not as great on the X10's rudimentary touchscreen.

Well the clearpad 2000 (?) just isn't very good. It often loses track of your finger which results in far more errors than you would otherwise have on a more potent digitizer.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
It's not a clearpad - it's a Cypress panel.
How do you use the microphone icon in Swype? Should I be able to press it then just speak?

Keyboard Help - Going Crazy

I know there are many keyboard topics, but I just can't find a one that works well on my Play.
-Smart Keyboard (Trial)
*Best keyboard for my needs, but it seriously slows the phone down after a day or two. As soon as I uninstall, everything starts working perfectly again.
-Stock Xperia Play
*Terrible. Doesn't remember contractions and doesn't have the mic button.
-Keyboard from Android 2.3 (free)
*Okay, but has a stupid emoticons symbol where the 'Enter' button should be during sms composition. I dislike the way it handles punctuation after typing out words.
I'm honestly starting to hate this phone because it's such a pain to enter data, no matter what I try. Never had issues on my old iPhone.
What is everyone using? And no, I don't want to use swype.
Thanks!

I use this one. Never noticed before about the emoticons button instead of enter until you mentioned it.
Doesnt bother me though. I dont see a reason to use enter for sms anyway. If you are going to write a novel, make an email
Swype its free on their site

Did you know that you dont have to swype your finger to type? You can also just type normally without having to change anything. Even normal typing is much better using swype than the stock keyboard. First few days swype pissed me off but now i swear by it

Multi touch for android rom?

Part of the reason for me to root was multi touch. Is there a rom on that for play?
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
The play has a 4-point multitouch screen and a 2-point touchpad. What do you mean that you rooted your phone for multi touch?

By multi touch I mean like on iPhone. Where you can use 2 fingers at the same time to type. If you use 2 thumbs on your plays keyboard your only clicking 1 and its messy

Actually I know what he means (after he explained).
On the iphone it types in the order you PRESS the letters.
On the xplay it types in the order you LIFT your fingers.
So if you press H E but lift the E finger before, it'll appear EH.
Hope that clears it up a little bit, I thought it was just me and I just tried to lift my fingers before pressing again, but checking on an iphone just now I realized it's easier over there. Perhaps it was just the heat of the moment haha.
Don't notice it that much because I use Swype.

same here, works like a charm
Well then it looks like he needs a keyboard that supports multitouch. The xperia play supports multitouch already I personally use Swype keyboard but I don't use the slide part and not the tapping so I don't know if it works for you. Try out some android keyboards and see what you like.
But as said above the Xperia play can take up to 4 finger at a time and a developer is planning on expanding it up to 10.
Try this application it proves that the Xperia play supports 4 fingers.

This is not ios where you are locked to one single keyboard my friend

There are tons of keyboards available one or the other will have what you are looking for

Swype is not on the market. Its here. Sign up and they will send you the download link. Takes a while to get used to but once you do it is way faster than normal typing.
Swype is far superior to a regular keyboard. One of the many reasons I prefer android to ios or blackberry.

I installed Swype. I had it on my x10 mini pro but I liked more to type with the physical keyboard.
Swype writes in the order you press (just like the iphone), and not in the order you lift (stock keyboard for us). It's weird because it's obvious that first key pressed should be written, stock keyboard is crazy lol

Oh I know but sometimes you need to type out the words if you know they wont be in the dictionary like codes, emails, passwords, etc.
The only thing I don't like is deleting words, it's very slow and if I press backspace a lot it goes slow and if I hit it too many times it will delete more than I wanted.

Keyboard and typing problem

I was having a problem with my tablet that I thought a update might sort so I rooted it and tried a few different roms but am still getting the same problem when am typing something. You know when you make a mistake and you can touch the area you want to fix by either deleting or changing a letter well when i do that the the line wont stay on that spot it just shoots of somewhere else every time

The dock

I've got one, have had it for about two weeks and it's amazing. Completely redefines this thing. Any tips on usage? Any way to use the keyboard for more games? What about right clicking on Splashtop? And lastly, any way we can manage an iPod with this beast?

You can cheat in gta III with the dock.
Send from my lovely Sensation XL, from a little town in france with a very very slow internet connection.
I doubt you could manage an iPod but a normal mp3 player where you dump files in a folder should be easy to do. That said its still much easier with windows explorer.
Nice tip though, a few windows shortcuts work with the keyboard, so try using those, I know ctrl c, ctrl x and ctrl v all work, you can also use ctrl plus the arrow keys to skip words at a time with the cursor
