do you think our "brother" live with walkman is worth it? - XPERIA X8 General

Hi ppl
as the title says what do you think?
I have to decide in the next 2 weeks if i go to a Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman or a ZTE Blade.
This will be a company phone, so my secondary one, i will still keep my X8
I checked and Sony already release ics for live so at least it does not suffer of the same "problems" that x8 about official updates (at least for now).
If i check ZTE Blade i think that really one thing that let me think about for a second is the 3.5' display but looking at camera, processor and ram i think Live will be like a Adrenaline Boost for my X8, and i'm already used to the 3.2' display.
And you, what do you say/suggest?
On this list i can add ZTE Tania (Windows 7.5), Samsung Galaxy Mini and ZTE V 875.

/!\ Development Expectations /!\

What development of our X8 do you expect?
I would like to have the
1) fastboot
2) overclock
multitouch and sense rom because of flash lite (i hope it is possible)
cracked bootloader
multitouch
dual boot~ 1 on phone, 1 on sd card
It wouldn't be fair to put marks on the xda-developers working on the X8 since they're doing us a big favor.
But I do hope that they finish.
I think they'll be able to find a way through the boot loader within the next few months. It would be great to get multi-touch..
Hey, did you guys know that the X10 is getting a Gingerbread release from Sony Ericcsson?

Android 2.3 gingerbread on xperia x10 mini and mini pro

First of all I am putting this here because i am new and cant post to development so I think it would be a good idea to make a new gingerbread for xperia x10 mini and mini pro now that x10 gingerbread released.Someone could make it exactly the same(if possible)with just few optimisations so that flash could work etc...
Its harder than you think, it may very well be possible, but it requires a port that would be much the same as the arc port to the x10 its from an xperia model, but it wont run on other models perfectly. You most likely wont have camera support above vga, and it will likely always be full of bugs. The current x10 mini roms with gb and froyo are going to be no different than the new x10 gb running on the mini.

Pretty sure there are problems with hardware as well (the X10 mini etc have a 600mhz processor i think? Ram might be an issue too)
I'm sure if it can be done there will be a dev somewhere who will.
Also, i think there is a X10 mini forum, this probably belongs in there.
And finally - Wooooh! 10 posts, dev forum here i go. I know the pain man... The only things of any "real" value i have to add were in teh dev forums...
And in unrelated news, i still cant post to the dev forums, maybe it needs to update something, or you need > 10 posts...

should i get DEFY???

hi all , my w8 had so much problems lately my dad decided to trade it in (cause of faulty phone) and add some bucks for a better phone for me ..so i've been thinking what phone to get ..among the choices are ACE , xperia mini , and just recently i thought of defy cause someone said defy can get muiu and is quite cheap ...so should iget it?
what i am looking for - in order
-I WANT MIUIIII
-price
-speed
-durability
-root frinedliness
-community(roms , defs etc)
-camera...?
-design
my price range is about RM750xx in used is about US250 and i cant find for defy's price in malaysian website...so is this phone in my league?
oh and what is miui actually? and is there others phone i should consider?

I shouldnt buy it... These are my reasons:
Motorola updates (I think we will not see official ICS in DEFY+)
Locked Bootloader = No "perfect" or "easy" ICS CyanogenMod 9
Motorola lied about it ( Its a defy with "stock" clock processor values.. )
It only can use signed kernels (by motorola --> bootloader locked)
oh...but if i dont mind unlocking bootloader will it be good? i was traumatized by unlocking BL since i hard bricked b4...but this phone supports miui yes? and is it expensive? really intrested with this phone
Given phones that you listed Defy is a beast. Yeah, it has locked bootloader and a share of Motorola related issues but development community is awesome. You can get unofficial 2.3 from Moto (Defy+ port), CM7, MIUI and now work is done on Android 4.0. It's relatively cheap compared to other phones that are successful in terms of unnofficial support and it has pretty nice hardware.
---
-I WANT MIUIIII - done
-price - don't know about India but fairly cheap for that hardware
-speed - phone flies with CM7/MIUI/ICS, stock Moto software (2.2) not so much
-durability - very good, no scratch besides drop related (chest height onto pavement)
-root frinedliness - one-click root
-community(roms , defs etc) - awesome support
-camera...? - average
-design - basic matte finish, its beauty lies in simplicity
Yea man defy is best puck from this. Im writing to u from defy with android 4.0 so man... this phone is worth much more than hi is now
Send from MB525 via TapaTalk
ahhh! i really want a defy now!! the problem is i don't know how much it cost..will it be more than a galaxy ace?
I think it cost around US 200,

In My country its the same price for both models... i think that it will by same in your
good phone but os isn't the android 4.0....
I usually to wash it by water .
LOL my dad asked about the retailer through the phone he said this phone no good better don't buy ...and he don't sell it , motorola is extremely unpopular in malaysia
You can get Defy @ around $200-225..and i would say go for defy.its one of those phones which is in league with likes of htc desire, samsung galaxy s..don't think of ace ..GPU of galaxy S & defy are almost identical plus lots of mod's on defy.use wajkui for miui or use fresh miui release @ MIUI.US..I think you can check defy on ebay or at your KL malls at chinese stores or in silangor ..you may get it for cheap..i was in malaysia for sometime..
definitely!!!
tbh it would not be the best option atm
for a year ago it would be good as its c/p is high
but now i suggest u to get another one
Great phone and awesome devs, but I'd say no until the bootloader is unlocked
Sent from my MB525 using Tapatalk
Well. I would say may be not now. There are other good phones recently launched could be better buy e.g sony erricsson neo-V etc.
The dev work is picking up for neo-V and is having similar specs to defy with better CPU, HDMI and unlocked boot loader.

[Q] As you know there's no ICS for Xperia Play so

Is there any ICS un official software that's stable and has most the features like camera, calling, texting, 2G/3G, wifi, bluetooth and if possible the new face unlock?
I have rooted my Xperia play and now want to install custom software since sony has now ditched the Play sadly it could do with a few PS games or should i just sell this phone and get a new one with ICS?
There are lots of roms: CM9, AOKPlay, PlayOSP. I wouldn't buy another phone, because of all the ICS-based roms, but if you have enough money, it's up to you.
Honestly
I have yet to use an ICS based custom rom that doesn't decrease performance.
Your best bet is to use one of the many Xperia S builds as they offer the best speed and most of the features you would ever want anyways.
cheers for your posts guys. can you cross phone software like xperia S on xperia play? ill check out the roms you mentioned and install one. do you guys know if that face unlock feature works in them? i dont really want to buy a new phone i just bought the xperia play lol

For ICS I'd wait until the dust settles.
Given the flack Sony are taking on their social networking sites I wouldn't be surprised to see a turn around.
At any case, once the other 2011 Xperia lines are updated to ICS and there's stable running custom ROM's etc, you'll likely see some that are ported for the Play.

Don't worry. I am going to use this phone for years anyways. Maybe until this very beloved Xperia SP forum, turned into a very quiet place. At least there are many things left for us to use on our phones, like Custom ROMs being actively developed, and maybe if you want to get all nostalgic you can use some old kernel and old stock-based ROMs and something like that. As much as I am sad to see this device unable to get Sony's attention, at least we still have some people who still contribute to it, namely those developers who worked hard to create custom ROM for our XSP. One of them even managed to try to boot L (lollipop) for Xperia SP once the source code has been released. Above all, try to be happy
It would be great if someone could pinpoint me to where I could learn on how to port ROMs and such. Because I am really serious about using this phone for years, due to my current age status that obviously will require funds to buy a new phone.

You don't need to be too dependant to companies. They will abandon us sometime and somehow. That's why there are developers. Our phones will live as long as it could until no one really cares about it no more but lets just hope that never happens.
For the tool that you want, it is Greenify. It hibernates the app you selected to save both battery and RAM. Unbouncing some wakelocks is a good practise too. If you wish I will elaborate more on this.
There are a lot man. I mean it, there are a lot of them Let's get interesting.......... Serajr Blurred System UI Xposed Module. That thing will make your notification slider transparent and blurred!
Why ppl make threads like this?
there was a thread with all info and was closed after EOL was announced... close this old news pl0x

I used now greenfy, its good, it hibernate apps but I can hibernate facebook, and some other programs, maybe becouse that its sytem proceses, and not instaled ones... hm

Actually you can benefit more from Greenify by purchasing its donation package. As you can see, Greenifying app disables GCM push (no more notifications) and doesn't really allow notification persistence. Experience with Greenify become greater of each level of "method". Greenify has 3 methods of hibernating, one for non-root, second for root, and third low-level system execution, through Xposed.
What is exposed?
Xposed is a great framework that runs within Android itself. The great functionality of this is modules (apps that serves purposes but runs on xposed framework) run without having processes thus saving your battery unlike persistent background processes
So combining the donation package with Xposed will yield extreme result but will still allow you to have push notifications come in, notifications that stay in the notification slider and many more great system level features.
If you are rooted, and don't want to buy a donation package, it is okay, but you'll require to move Facebook as a user app. From there you can finally hibernate it.
Wakelock "unbouncing" is not hibernating an app or something. You see, wakelock is an event where your device's CPU wakes up in the midst of deep sleep. Excessive wakelocks can cause battery draining issues. "Unbouncing" a wakelock and alarm is a good way to lessen the battery draining. "Unbounce" simply means altering the wakelock timer to any specific time that you've set. Use the application Unbounce to unbounce Google's battery draining wakelocks for free. If you want to unbounce some other safe wakelocks, you will require to purchase the donation.
If you wish to install a custom ROM I have made a guide (that does not attract attention though sigh) for very starters like you. Just head over here.
Since previous thread about updates is locked, I would like to use this one to point out that Android 5.0 "Lollipop" is officially released and here's a compiled and officially confirmed (by the companies) list of the phones which will get the 5.0 update so far. You can check the specifications of the devices on the list and draw the conclusion yourselves as to why our Xperia SP didn't get at least KitKat-based firmware update and who or what is responsible. Thank you.
