Post your IDEAL SGS3! - Galaxy S II General

Hi guys,
Plz post your dream or expected SGS3 specs along with comment:
USE THIS FORMAT:
Quad-core Processor (2ghz or higher)
2gb ram
4.6 to 4.8 in Screen
5mp Front camera (30 fps)
14mp Back Camera
LTE (can handle ATT & Tmo bands)
Micro-HDMI output (like G2X)
Strap insert in housing (fear dropping phone)
COMMENT:
I would love if this phone with these specs plus, i would want the camera to record videos full 1080Hd without being Zoomed-in but rather I can zoom (man this did kill SGS2 for me), Front camera with high frame rate (iphone4 has a higher fps on front cam than SGS2 :-(
A better battery life, i found iphone4 battery lasted longer then my SGS2. Would love if SGS3 would support both AT&T & Tmobile bands just like the American version of SGS2 (i don't expect to happen)

Quad-core Processor (1.5Ghz, + power saving core, .38nm, built in radios)
High end graphics chip
2gb ram
4.3 - 4.8 in Screen, SAMOLED++, haptic touch panel
3.5mp Front camera (30+ fps)
12mp Back Camera (30+ fps), more focus on shutter speed, exposure, quality, than MP
LTE optional (can handle SKT bands, 800 & 1200)
Micro-HDMI output (like G2X)
Dedicated camera button
Optional touchwiz
Waterproof
2500mAh+ battery
No logo on front
Physical home button
inductive charging

Top specs which I'm sure Samsung will provide but in particular better build quality rather than cheap plastics, good size battery and decent speakers!

I'll have you know that the cheap plastic Galaxy S and S II have both survived multiple falls and the rigours of day to day use my me without any physical damage where as my HTC Desire with it's better built quality failed on the first drop... Justsayin.

Nexus One, why not 720p officially

Just to start a discussion.
everyone knows N1 is capable of doing video recording on 720p.
I am just wondering, why google does not officially release such capability? Or do you think they just want user to root it and do whatever they want? Desire has it anyway.
I am so looking forward to an official 720p, if it ever happens.
Because of the bit rate and frame rate. It's not good enough to do it over 24 FPS consistently.

ok, that too. ;-)
it does a really nice job @ 800xwhatever, but 720p is just too much. it starts having artifacts if there is any motion at all, and any panning/tilting turns the picture terrible. just what i've experienced.
using the latest CM6 nightly i have yet to come across any issues with it, i actually like it, but yea compare it to a real HD camera (not the Evo) but a handheld camera the 720p is crap

Yeah. But that's obvious. You spend probably around 300 for a good 720p camera ya know?
I hate to bring it up, but why can the iPhone 4 handle HD video so well? It has a 5MP sensor just like the N1. Any ideas? Because I know this sensor could handle it if the iPhone's could. Am I wrong?

Well rooted N1s and desires are able to do it. Better than what HTC gave in the official froyo update too.

I don't think it's the sensor. I think it has to do with how fast the phone can take data from that sensor and do something with it. It can't keep up with the camera flooding it with data at 24 FPS at 720p.

megapixel sensor size doesn't equate to the quality of a camera.
The hardware in the iphone4 is better than that of the nexus one.

A bit better (and closer to the truth) explanation would be:
Google have X engineering "horsepower" that can only do Y stuff in a given amount of time. They can:
1) Spend more time upgrading their DEVELOPER phone capabilities (which was never intended to be anything but developer phone) for the sake of the VERY FEW customers that bought this phone while it was in commercial stage (Nexus owners are a tiny percentage of Android device owners),
2) Spend more time enhancing Android system for ALL the current and future customers of ALL phone manufacturers.
Guess which one they would prefer? Not a hard guess, right?
Yes, unfortunately, it's not the one you would prefer.
The same goes for "why not improved graphics driver", "why not improved N support", etc.
I 2nd that.I think that Google engineers are more into improving android os as a whole.
OP,didn't you notice how many updates and radios the desire has compared to ours?

The iphone4 does 720p and movement really, really well, i was shocked, and admittedly a little jealous. When it is said that the Iphone4's "hardware" is better, is it that the I4's hardware has better quality, or does it just have better specs? In other words, the I4 doesnt have a full ghz processor right? But is it just much better quality? I dont really know what im talking about im just very interested in 720/HD recording on smartphones, definitely a prerequisite going forward...thanks

yeah, even when I tested the iPhone 2G camera that has 2MP sensor, it's photo quality was alot better than my Nexus. just the resolution is bigger in Nexus. and iPhone 4 has a Apple A4 1 GHZ processor, that equals almost the same CPU on Nexus but with different GPU on iPhone (PowerVR SGX). it just does it really really well.
The CPU and its main frequency has exactly nothing to do w/ video encoding, most probably. Encoding/decoding in small-scale devices is usually implemented by separate subsystems (packaged with the CPU - that's why they call it SoC).

i see, so Apple spent a good deal of efforts to specifically make the camera so good...It wasnt just that they made the phone well, and in turn that solid hardware allowed for good camera quality.
I dont even use the N1 video recorder very often but for some reason I really want better capabilities, maybe if I did have much higher fps and resolution I would use it a lot. Currently the fps are really poor, any movement is a blur regardless of the amount of light. And of course 480 is quite dated. But the phone is otherwise top notch, and the 5mp camera is really solid and i use it a lot, under varied conditions.
I imagine the internal memory vs. whatever SD card a normal consumer would get might also play a part. The Android devices that do have 720p officially all have internal memory ( >1GB ), right? So the manufacturers can control the quality of memory used. I would think that Google/HTC would get lots more complaints from the general population who got bargain basement cards from the back of a truck and expected everything to perform flawlessly. I also agree with above points about the hardware and subsystems. So many variables. But that's also why I like the Android platform. You have a choice (and not just 16GB vs. 32GB locked to one carrier with a contract).

IF I remember correctly, Charansingh said the Iphone achieved 720p by duplicating the image thereby increasing fps to achieve 720p...or something like that. The amount of available light controls the phones ability to reach higher fps. I've gotten 26fps outdoors in bright light. The N1 is set to a max of 30fps, but will only do 1/2 of that indoors. fwiw

Do you think dhd has all the features or it missing something

Hi guys
No very soon we will get the DHD
But do you think. DHD has all the features or it missing any features
Thanks

From what everyone has been able to read and see so far the only thing that would be desirable (no pun intended) would be a HDMI port. For me at least anyway.
I think the lack of a built-in coffee machine is unforgivable. Other than that, it seems OK

It seems to have most of the features of current phones, but there are some things it could do better like the camera, screen, battery life etc. There's no such thing as the perfect device unfortunately.
Front camera, camera button, HDMI, pouch and headphones in the box, bigger battery.
It's not perfect of course, but I think it has everything I want satisfied better than any other phone on the market. And that's what matters, I'm sick of waiting for new phones to come out before upgrading from my featurephone
- HDMI
- 8 (or 16) gb Internal memory
- A (much) better camera... The photos taken by dhd that I've seen on internet are very very poor! They seem that they have been upscaled by software to 8 mpx... blown highlights and so on.... very disappointing
IMO I dont think its laking in anything ...
1.5GB is fine for apps when has anyone had more than 700Mb of apps ? (waits to be flamed )
The shots from the camera look poor but i dont think thats the scensor ... maybe test S/W or drivers as the pictures from the N1/wildfire/Desire's 5MP camera are better.
Only thing it could have is HDMI but with the media streaming im not too fussed :-D
All in all this phone is a beast H/W wise

+1 from me. I've got an HTC Desire just now and so far not seeing enough to persuade me to change to a Desire HD. Also not sure I can face the risk of going through the hassle of the Bluetooth not working with my car gain, which was the case with the Desire until we had the FroYo update.
Auto focus in camcorder ... iPhone doing this since 3gs..

SGS3 wish-list. samsung reps should read this lol

SGS3 hardware specs that I'm looking forward to:
1- Exynos 5250.
2- Mali-T604 GPU.
3- 1 GB of RAM is enough.
4- HD Super AMOLED Plus.
5- Corning's Lotus Glass and Oleophobic coating. 4.3 inches screen should be enough.
6- On-screen buttons which double as LED notification (same like Galaxy Nexus)
7- 2500 mAh battery or close to Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX (3300 mAh). Please sacrifice the phone's thinness for this, please!
8- 12MP back camera with superb sensor and optics (superior than that of iPhone 4S or Nokia N8) and yes, camera button too. the camera should be able to record 1080p video at 30fps. DON'T YOU DARE FORGET LED FLASH THIS TIME, SAMSUNG!
9- 2MP front facing camera should be enough.
10- elegant UI which doesn't appear too geeky or too childish. i don't mind if Samsung change UI aspects of Ice Cream Sandwich, as long as it's as gorgeous as stock AOSP.
11- Wolfson DAC (like in SGS1) with loud and clear loudspeaker, but without crackling sounds like Nokia's loudspeaker.
12- great call quality (without drop calls, etc) up to 16 hours (like Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX)
13- maintaining plastic build all around but with a very high quality and premium mix to it. (hint: something like Nokia N9, polycarbonate plastic)
14- 32GB of storage with microSD card slot.
15- HDMI port + cable (out of the box)
16- WiFi Direct
17- NFC
18- Accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer sensor.
19- Ultra smooth browser.
20- High quality headset with mic. source: http://www.talkandroid.com/86999-ja...dio-and-bundled-headphones-to-samsung-phones/ (removing the need for Voodoo sound)
21- comes with multiple colours and not just black. i still want to buy the black version. i just don't want others to have the same thing i have. =p
i hope samsung reps read my post then my make my dream come true. i don't mind paying $8xx for a phone that have all this features. *crossing my fingers*
lol nice dreams i wish
Buddy as far as i knw android doesn't support bluetooth 3.0... so why even think mre than 2.0 !!!
Feel free to correct me if i ve got my facts wrng...
I would rather it have the regular plastic look of the S1 ans S2, because a unibody design is only going to raise the price of the phone simply for the sake of aesthetics.
I would rather that they made a phone worked right out of the box and never lied about fixing the problems later( gps anyone? ). Samsung I wish Apple sues your @ss so much that you have to go out of business forever!

I wish my SGS would instantly teleport me to the person I'm calling when he answers so we can talk directly instead.
Probably have the same changes of that happening as the SGS3 having all the things you want
but seriously now, and edgeless display is all I ever wanted in a phone and that's all I still want now. Everything else is just a bonus.
Why would you want Bluetooth 4.0? BT4.0 is the ultra low energy variant of Bluetooth and with that comes ultra low range and ultra low speeds. You might want to look into a feature before deciding it is good based purely on the version number.
Other than that your list looks pretty good, if not a bit optimistic. I would be content with just having the same audio quality as the Galaxy S, if you're referring to the Wolfson DAC I mean.

I guess Sammy will do all these and come with 256Mb ram
What about FM transmmiter and HDMI output ?
Actually that list looks pretty reasonable (well may be except for the front facing camera).
They need to do more than just put together a group of decent specs like the SGS II.
Things like UI, battery life, build quality, and so on are what really matter.
If the screen is over 4" I won't be interested either.

Xperia Z vs HTC ONE

Please If I have left something out let me know!
Xperia Z
Thinner
Bigger Screen
Water Proof
Dust Proof
Multitasking Button
microSD, up to 32 GB
DragonTrail Glass
13MP Camera
HTC one
IR Blaster
Higher PPI (469)
Stereo Speakers
UltraPixel Sensor
Built-in Amplifier
Optical Image Stabilization
64GB Storage
HDR Front Camera
Snapdragon 600
Metal Exterior
Viewing Angles
Contrast
Sunlight Visiblity
HTC One is superior in almost all aspects, except no expandable memory slot and the design is not as elegant.
Really annoys me that Sony still haven't released the Xperia Z and all these more powerful phones are coming out now.
this shouting match is already going on here:

- Xperia: dragontrail hasn't been confirmed by Sony, so we can't really know.
- Built-in amplifier ? All devices with sound output have built-in amplifiers.
- I'm not sure if UltraPixel sensor isn't just higher ISO setting by default, i don't trust marketing like that.
- Xperia also supports 64gb micro cards.
PS. We already have a thread like that - and it draws flame wars etc.
I guess you won't notice a big difference of the screen size...the 5 inch displays of the Sony has to show the buttons at the bottom. On the HTC One they don't "count" to the display.
I haven't decided yet, but I still favor the Xperia Z

Ultrapixel is just a marketing term the sensor is as big as the sensor in the z but has far less pixels, which is for lots of reasons better, especially for a phone, coupled with de IS it is bound to be better than the z. I think it is a smart move from htc especially for a phone.
The htc one is absolutely gorgeous, the best looking phone I've ever seen, extremely premium aluminium uni body, with what will be the best screen on any phone this year. Having played with an xperia z in store, with its awful washed out screen, average camera, and a build and look that strangely doesn't feel particularly premium in real life, i'm glad I didn't pre order the xperia z

When i say bult in amplifier I just mean its better than the one in the S3
Officaly the Xperia Z only supports 16GB
Why don't you add the Galaxy S 4 to the topic?
These topic's are so stupid, technology nowadays is going so fast... Each device you're fighting for these days will be outdated in a few months.
Just choose a device and live with it until you can get a newer one.
SO WHAT'S THE POINT!??
only supports 16GB?
get your facts right... :victory:

The HTC One also has infinity glass which reduces glare and is resistant to scratching.

HTC is also much better in dropping marketing terms
any way probably a better phone.
I honestly really like both phones. There will always be advantages to one phone over the other, but honestly (unless you are a complete pessimist) both phones should be able to keep you happy for around 1-1.5 years minimum.
The thing that I want to understand is the HTC One Capacitive Buttons. You have home and back... but where is menu? Menu is probably one of the most essential buttons in android. Hopefully (this is what I would do) hitting home once would bring up menu, and double tap will go home. Something along those lines. Nothing I am really worried about anyways (AOKP will fix it haha)
I do not really think UI is something to get in a heated debate about... once custom firmware hits you can put whatever you want on. Personally I am going to rock stock AOKP on any phone I get.
Same goes for storage.... Sure XZ has a micro SD slot, but there aren't any micro SDXC cards bigger than 64gb (and might not be for a while), so really the difference between the HTC One and XZ is 64GB vs 80GB at maximum.
The only real criticism I have for Sony is the delayed North American release for the Z and especially the ZL. HTC revealed the phone today and will release in a Month. Xperia ZL was revealed in mid January and wont come out till April. There is no point to reveal an amazing new phone and then release it once it is old news. Shame on Sony for that.
Both phones are awesome, just go for the one you prefer.
Battery life is something I am finding more and more confusing with Android phones. How is it that the HTC Butterfly gets a better battery life test during video streaming than the Xperia Z by over an hour, yet has a 13% smaller battery, same processor, same GPU, and same screen resolution. This seems completely counter-intuitive.
Now for my personal opinion. I prefer the outer design and features of the ZL over the HTC One (I like the idea of as little bezel as possible), however I prefer the One screen and speakers. Not going to make any decisions till the Galaxy S4 comes out.
Just saw camera samples of "ultrapixel" phone... seriously not convinced (they have just made photos from old sensor clear)...compared http://blog.gsmarena.com/here-are-the-first-samples-from-the-htc-one-ultrapixel-camera/# this snap with my old 5mp carl zeiss sensor in nokia n97( similar shot i took of my watch back in 2009)... and BOOM! HTC has gone back 4 years
maybe it will be better if they had released 8MP with ultrapixel... obviously pixels will not remain big and so called ultra pixel will lose its meaning...
well in long run when reviews come out this may not pay well for HTC.
.... happily go with XZ ...
benchmarks are only 5-10% better and that too only due to higher clock CPU .... i m not convinced with snapdragon 600 too .... it did nothing brilliant... over s4 pro... (i dont know if it saves more power)
but then obviously its my view of the summary... lets see what happens... XZ has its own flaws too.
Do you guys really like the UI ? Can't say i like it... especially the drawer. In this aspect Sony's UI is much better for me ( if they got rid of those hideous grey rectangles in the drawer - it'd be perfect for me as far as Android can go, and in terms of UI i'm a big fan of Windows Phone's consistent, simple and clear UI )

Hmm... they're not bad, but certainly nothing "ultra" here. Let's wait for some more camera tests.

I think it's gonna be more than 5-10%.

Don't know which to chose myself. I think maybe if the One has good battery life, I'll go with it.

I think they are quite good, for a phone hardly any noise, but still a phone no matter how cool the sensor tech (and indeed this is just going back to basics nothing new going on) the lens still sucks, if the lens suck the photo quality sucks it's simple. really great photo's on a phone is just not going to happen (if the phone needs to be thin)
It has the same GPU as the s4 pro, it is a marginal update, maybe it will perform better in some cases. the 800 series will be a different beast.
