Aldiko app not opening - Nook Touch General

When I try opening the free Aldiko app on my rooted NST, the screen simply refreshes. I rooted with Touchnooter, got the Market working, and installed Aldiko and a few other apps. It worked at first, but after uninstalling and reinstalling it does this. I've tried reinstalling again, wiping the cache, wiping the dalvik cache, and uninstalling via adb. I really don't want to reformat, root, and reinstall everything just to get one app to work.

I'm pretty sure Aldiko is just broken and won't run on the Nook.

Check out this post from the Themes and Apps section - it solved the problem for me.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1361004&highlight=aldiko
It seems to be a problem with the SD card. With the SD card inserted, Aldiko force closes. With an empty SD card slot, the app works.
The older version of the app (from the post above) works just fine with the SD card inserted.

can not install or uninstall apps. NAND, wipe/flash new rom does not help.

ive been trying to figure this out since yesterday but i am completely lost and really need help..
this started yesterday. i had my phone connected with adb and pulled some files (LatinIME.apk, framework-res.apk). i did not push or delete any. around the same time i download fx camera. all the work i did was actually just on the computer. the only thing i did on the phone around that time was use root explorer to check the name of the .apk for fx camera.
im not sure if any of that could possibly mean anything but i thought maybe it was worth mentioning.
here are the symptoms. right after i was done the phone was acting sluggish and crappy (it always does when i disconnect from usb since i switched to froshedyo v10) so i rebooted. upon booting up, 90% of apps were missing. i didnt feel like using titanium backup to manually "ok" each install, so i opted for a fairly recent NAND backup to restore to. i did but upon booting up, the same apps were missing.. very weird right? i know they were there when i made the backup.. so now i decided i had to use titanium. but when i began i noticed that it wouldnt install any app. it would hang on the "installing" screen forever. i rebooted and this time tried an app from the market, only to have the same results.
i did try wiping everything and starting fresh (with froshedyo v10). a strange thing happened. after logging in and setting up the basics i left it alone to restore the apps. when i checked later i had the notification, "applications partially restored". i never had that before.. it seemed like maybe a few more apps were there, but not much. i was mostly in the same boat. and again, titanium backup and market would not install any apps..
please help.. whats going on??
---------latest info--------
i wiped everything and tried to start fresh with a brand new copy of nonsensikal 16.1. no apps were restored, and i am unable to install or uninstall any app on the phone. it will just hang on the installing/uninstalling screen.
i have done multiple wipes and flashes, testing each time to see if anything is working, but it has not worked once. i can not install or uninstall any apps.
Were you using Apps2sd? I wonder if it could be something with that. Especially if your rom seems to be fine. Is everything else showing up on your sd card?
the file manager on the phone shows all my sd card contents just fine.
i believe when i first installed this rom about a week ago i did find an option somewhere in settings that said "choose location to install apps" (i chose external) and "allow moving of apps to external" (i chose yes).
Try downloading Eris market fix from the market. See if that works.

oooh, i would love to download that app from the market if it might fix my inability to download and install apps. if only i was able to download and install apps..
Oops, my bad. I just skimmed over your post and saw 90% of apps gone. So even if you had an apk on your sdcard it wont let you install it?

U could flash the vending.apk that should bring back your market

I don't think you have a market problem...it sounds like an sd card issue which would explain alot of the symptoms including issues when unmounting from pc. If all your apps are installed on the sd and the card doesn't mount right they will "dissapear" as you have described. Try changing the setting to install apps back to internal and then apps should install. If apps install after you do that it probably means the sdcard is corrupted so you will need to back up the files on your sd and then reformat the card. PLEASE remember to back up the sd card before reformatting since it has your nand backups on it. The market fix is only a fix for apps not showing in the market not on the phone.
lol its ok rhamej.
i think i should clarify though that i do have a market. it may be worth noting that i used to have a blue themed market, which during this problem seems to have reverted to the stock green market. but i do have a market.
when i try to install from the market, it just kind of stalls when i accept the terms and permissions needed by the app. like, when i click the final "ok" which should then lead to the app actually beginning to download, it just stops. doesnt freeze the market or FC, its almost like the button is unresponsive.
when i try to install an app via file manager from sd card, it hangs on the "installing" screen. same with titanium backup.
----------developments------------
i couldnt stand not having my apps so i did a NAND back to nonsensikal. my apps were all restored this time but im still having problems installing.
from the sd card: hangs on install.
from the market: now will download, but hangs on install.

we must have been posting at the same time but these all still sound like what i mentioned in my above post. Your apps are back with nonsensikal because they probably weren't installed on sd when you made the nand for that rom.

lol posting at same time again...you are probably typing right now...try rebooting the phone also after the setting has been changed....for some reason froyo depends too much in my opinion on the sd card and really can cause issues with it.
quick question. what format should my micro sd card be in? i know i formatted it right around the time i got it, to FAT32. im assuming thats correct but i would like to double check. google isnt answering my question fast enough..
still no progress.
i wiped everything, flashed a new nonsensikal 16.1. apps didnt automatically come back. i can not install or uninstall apps on the phone. they all hang on the installing/uninstalling screen.
how could this have happened? how can i fix it? i will gladly do a more thorough wipe. i wiped data and davlick. what else could i do to completely reset my phone to fix this problem? that is assuming that there is no other ideas of options.. i hope there is!
edit: in regards to previous ideas, i reformatted my sd card (FAT32) and replaced all the files.

You could try the flashback 21 file here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792026
That should take you back to stock and replace your custom recovery with the default one. You could then re-root. I don't know if that's what you want, but that would be about as complete of a reset as you could get as far as I know.
Does anyone else know if this is the best option? I would hate to mislead...
I had a problem similar to this after I dropped my phone. I could not install any apps (market or .apk) and reading of my SD card was spotty at best. What fixed it for me was first deleting the .android-secure folder on the sd card. [NOTE!: this may delete some/all apps/app data you have so I hope you have a backup]. I have no idea why but the .android-secure was not happy at all ;] I believe you have to delete it on a computer because android file managers just can't do it.

Did you put all your files back on your sd card after reformatting it? I would try reformatting the card and then see if it works before you put your files back on. Like the previous poster said the android_secure folder could be messed up and if your copying it back could still cause issues.

There is a link talking about doing this on the op of my floyo rom thread
well that android_secure thing seems to have been the problem! thank you guys very much! i just deleted it and rebooted and i am now able to install and uninstall apps, both from the sd card and market.
it got to the point where i couldnt connect via usb unless i was in recovery so things were getting pretty frustrating. im glad its over. any guesses what might have caused this craziness?

after gingerbreak market issues

i used gingerbreak to root 1.8.3 and now when im in the market it says my only apps installed are maps and youtube.
anyone else get this?
all the apps still work. only market doesnt recognize that they are installed
Sometimes Gingerbreak formats your entire internal SD card. I've never had it happen myself though. And I've rooted about 4 different times with gingerbreak.
it did format my sd. i backed everything up though and put it all back on the sd card
Yeah i had a very short list of apps that were there... and it did format my internal sd card the first time I ran it.... so maybe that's what the deal was. I flashed the 1.83 sbf today and ran gingerbreak again and it didn't format the card.
Not sure what a fix would be, but it would be nice to get updates for those apps eventually.

I tried that and it didn't seem to help.. I was hoping it would re-enumerate the applications. Not sure If I've rebooted since then though... let me try that.
UPDATE: Clearing data and rebooting worked.

[Q] Frequent reboot after installing new apps

My nook color stays not much longer than 1min after loading all the apps & just after that it reboots. I've tried installing a fresh rom couple of times & wiping each & everything but just after installing all the apps again, it reboots. Have tried both by installing it manually & restoring through titanium backup as well, but same result. It works fine only when I remove my micro sd. I know that some apps doesn't works when installing in micro sd & that's why I've installed all my apps in internal memory. I never faced that issue when I was using Phiremod v6.3 build. Recently after moving into the latest nightly build, this issue occurred. Please tell me how can I resolve this issue? I've been trying to find the solution from so many days but couldn't able to find. Thanks
You could use ROM Manager to restore the last ROM if you did a backup or just reinstall it. I am a little confused about what you mean by loading all the apps. Apps are generally loaded as you use them, not at boot up. When you first boot up you can usually see the SD card icon at the bottom of the screen before it gets mounted. It is possible the card got corrupted. If you don't have anything on it but app backups and it works fine when the card is out you could try reformatting the card on your PC or with a camera that uses micro SDHC cards.
You also might have a misbehaving app loading on startup.
When I first boot the system, the sd card icon shows at the bottom of the screen & disappears after loading all the games from it. After that I can see all my apps & games in app drawer but after a min, it gets reboot. I only have games in sd card, not a single app & neither any app in my internal memory which loads at startup.
Well if the nook boots and runs just fine without the SD-card inserted, then we can be pretty certain that something on the card is messed up. Lot's of possibilities: Corrupted .apk file, partially corrupted file structure on the SD-card itself, Hell it could also be auto-update panicking because it's trying to update an app that has yet to load off the SD-card.
First thing I would try is formatting the SD-card within CM7.
Also try turning off auto-update
If that fails, connect the SD-card to your computer and scan it with windows to check for any file table corruption.
If that fails, it's hard times ahead for you. You'll have to go through the apps one-by-one to see which one is being the little bastard.
Good luck.
Thanx for The help. But all I have on my SD card is just game. Before installing anything on my internal memory, I restored my games backup 1st to my SD card through titanium backup. It was then working absolutely fine. After that I installed apps manually just to see which app is causung error. But all were installed without any problem, used for a while then I manually reboot. Since then I am getting this issue.

[Q] Very strange problem

Hi! While I am new to this community as a poster, I have used CM ROMS since version 7 without issue (many thanks to leapinlar for learning me a few things!).
Now I have a problem to which I cannot find an answer. After loading CM 10.1.XX to SD Card via the instructions here -
most of the services shut down - Exchange & Gallery at first, then most apps, starting with Google Play. Here's what I have done:
1. Format SD card using SDFormatter (Sandisk 8GB Class 4 Micro SD card);
2. Burn image to card - have tried v5, 6 & 7;
3. remove card, reinsert, copy CM 10.1.xx.encore.zip (have tried 10.1.1, 10.1.2, 10.1.3)
4. Insert into NC, boot, then everything goes haywire.
With only the CM on the card, Exchange & Gallery both stop working ("unfortunately, xx has stopped working"). I disabled both, as I do not use Exchange, nor do I necessarily need the Gallery) Problem disappears. I then set up WiFi, shut down, copy gapps-jb-xx to the card from my PC, reinsert into NC, boot into SD Recovery, it does its thing, then shuts down. I start up the NC again, now the apps don't work - "unfortunately, GooglePlay has stopped working", "Gmail has stopped working", "process.gapps.x.x has stopped working", etc., until nothing works the way it is supposed to.
Now I have tried this several different ways, always starting with a clean (formatted) MicroSD card (I assume it's clean if it's formatted, right?), & am unable to keep everything working. I have flushed the caches, tried different combinations of the CM & gapps files, & nothing seems to work - these services/processes still shut down.
Could this be a hardware failure of some sort? Am I missing a step? Do I need to flush caches & clear data manually (not sure how to flush cache/Dalvik cache manually, but when setting up, the screen says "clearing caches")? I have used the alternate installs (uAltRAM, etc.) for automated flushing, but nothing works for me like it did in CM 7 or even CM 9. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help

A quick format with SDFormatter will not be clean. You need to do a full format. I suspect that is your problem.
One other thing you can do is install my alternate CWM so that you can wipe /system and /data between installs. See my section B in my NC Tips thread.

Thanks so much for your response! As soon as I get the chance, I will do a full format ("overwrite" rather than "erase" - the card does not support "erase", only "quick" & "overwrite"). I will also check out your tips & go from there. Thanks again for your reply & for all of your hard work!

OK, so I followed your instructions, & I was obviously doing things incorrectly. Wiped the SD card completely with "full-overwrite" using SDFormatter, then, for good measure, formatted again with Windows (probably overkill, but I did it anyway); installed CM 10.1.3; cleared cache using your alternate install, installed compatible gapps, now everything just works! Sorry for wasting anyone's time, all I had to do was not be lazy in the SDFormat department & I would have had no problem. Thanks again & Happy Thanksgiving!

App issues?

I've got some odd things happening here...
1. Swiftkey keeps telling me "unable to save dynamic language module".
2. Waze crashes and says that "Waze can't access your SD card".
3. I can't install xposed due to another SD related issue.
My card seems to be fine. ES is reading it fine and all my data seems to be intact.
I've tried every combination of fixing permissions, clearing dalvik / cache, reinstalling apps, and removing my SD card.
Any ideas?
Thank you in advance!
