My note always receive low wifi singals n low speed while other devices like ipad n sensation have full signals...can someone help me with that...

The wifi signal icon sucks.
Its mean nothing...

Bt even the download is slower thn other devices

hey dude from th photo the note has 3 lines full which is same with i-pad
just joking hahahaha

I agree about the Wifi. In areas where Wifi is weaker, my iPod Touch performs far better than the Note in connecting

Same issue with me from past two days of usage.
Which version of OS are you using as mine is DDLA1(Unrooted) and I am facing the same issue, I can say this because I have used older firmware version(DDKL1) earlier that was rooted and wifi was excellent.

Never had this problem with all the version I went through. Now I'm on stock rooted LB1

I agree completely. The Notes wifi is quite weak. Can a new modem improve this?

the wifi signal is comapriably slower than my old hd2, side by side they are both connected via n signal to the router, note is showing 52mb and the hd2 running android is showing 58mb

I get much better connection on the other side of my house than any previous phone or tablet. I must say that even a couple of metres from the router I can get only a couple of 'bars', but download is still very fast.

In my case I experience the same low bar and slow speeds. But worst of all, I can't connect to my wireless N router (only G) , the Note doesn't even see it!
I'm on ICS MidNote 2.0
Any ideas?

Do a search (not being mean/rude, just not at a computer to find it for you) about WiFi on the Note in either this or the Q&A section. I read about a month ago that there's a text file that contains the authorized WiFi bands for your country, and since there's no US ROM the bands listed are incorrect. Of course you have to be rooted to change it (which you are), but I'm not so just living with G.

I rooted my device yesterday and flashed AbyssNote Kernel 4.2 and Wifi seems to work fine.

i also got this wifi problems, the htc desire hd got a much better signal

This is a big issue with my Note too. Sometimes signal will be showing aa strong, but then I get message....cannot connect to the server. Compared it to my s2, and the s2 had no problems making a connection.

Bluetooth 3.0 HS

I realised there wasn't much of a difference in speed when sending files through 3.0 HS as apposed to 3.0, I tested this by sending files to my brothers galaxy s2 and didn't notice any difference in speed. But then I hurd wifi needs to be activated aswel in order to use bluetooth with HS? Is this true? And if so do both devices need to be connected to the same wifi network? Thanks.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I have a Samsung notebook and the wifi and blutooth 3.0 are integrated into the same card on my model and share the same antenna.
I find that my blutooth transfer rate is a lot higher with the wifi disabled when i am using the bluetooth , I think it was 250kb/s or something.
I just came across this video on youtube which compares 3.0 with 3.0 HS on the galaxy s2, altho I dont understand it cus its in japanese lol but I can make out the one with bluetooth HS is the one with wifi turned on and its much faster than the one without wifi on. Just hope you don't have to be on the same network in order for it to work.

Prob uses wifi direct to some extent since SGS2 supports it
Well I just got hold of my brothers gs2 again and tried sending the same file but with wifi on this time, it worked. before it took around 20 seconds to send this music file (9mb) and now with wifi on it takes just under 5 seconds, and you don't have to be connected to any wifi network, the wifi just needs to be switched on which is a good thing if you want to send files to friends when your out.

Very helpful thank you, I'd been trying to get my head around this bt 3 stuff for about an hour now then found this.
It's not obvious you'd need wifi on form the tiny book samsung provided.
Thanx a lot for this info man... was not getting the expected results before...
Hey no problem guys.. Having to turn the wifi on is a bit daft i know lol how on earth is a layman suppose to know that? Lol i met a friend on the bus the other day and he's also got the gs2, and he's very happy with it. He works in the Orange mobile retail shop so he thinks he knows the crack, As he was sending me a video he was boasting about the Bluetooth speed being so quick, telling me its got the newest Bluetooth technology in it lmao funny thing is he didn't even have wifi on and he works in a mobile phone shop. After he sent me the video which took about 5mins i turned on wifi on both phones and sent him the video back. It took around 40seconds, he was shocked lol he thought my phone sent files quicker because it was on a newer firmware lolol.

Anyone else experiencing slow download speeds?

So me and both of my friend had trouble loading a YouTube video, it was so slow and kept pausing. We both have the Nexus 4 and were on wifi by the way. So we tried using another friends S III and it loaded the video fine. When I ran a side by side speed test he got a 19 mbs download and I could only pull 2. Is this happening to anyone else?

It obviously shouldn't be that way. Since this is wifi, try a mix of different networks. Lord knows, this wouldn't be the first phone with wifi issues with certain network security types right out of the gate (or wifi problems in general).

Its only really noticeable when I try to play a youtube video, although had it other times too.
Also switching to mobile data for youtube as its faster!

I'm seeing this issue as well and it's occurring on 2 completely different wireless networks: at home and in the office. I've tried tweaking wifi settings on both my Nexus 4 and on my router at home but nothing has fixed the slow wifi speeds. And none of my other Android devices are experiencing this issue (Nexus 7, Galaxy Nexus, Motorola Xoom).
I called Google Play support just now and they didn't have any info to offer on whether or not this is a known issue, they just asked if I'd tried restarting my phone and/or done a factory reset. After I verified that I'd already done both things and neither action resolved the issue they said I could exchange the phone, so that's what I decided to do.
If this problem is indeed being caused by faulty hardware in the phone, hopefully the replacement phone will be in a better state and work properly. <crosses fingers>
It's the router that needs to be updated, not the phones. Obviously if you're is broken though that is irrelevant.
Can't say why that is, but I read a thread awhile back detailing it, I will try and locate it.

I think remydlc is referring to download speed over a cellular data connection, and not WiFi (which is what this thread's topic is really about). At least that's the way I read it...
Is this related... I have noticed compared to my old S2 and iPad my nexus has fewer bars and the signal can drop if held in the left hand. The connection speed can be much less too.
Not good.
could it possibly be trying multiple networks? I have a dual band 5 and 2.4 but they have different ssids - my initial set up was to the 5 ghz but when the google restore happened it populated my 2.4 ssid and pw. I found I had to "forget" all my configured access points and just set up my 5 ghz one and everything was smoking

I don't think this is causing the issue (at least for my phone). I've had the slow WiFi speeds on 2 completely different networks, with one being the campus network of the university I work at. Also, I've tried using my Nexus 4 on 2 different routers at home, one of which can do both 2.4/5.0 ghz and when I tried manually setting the phone to just use either the 2.4 ghz or the 5.0 ghz network it made no difference; the phone's WiFi speed was still very slow.
I'm feeling pretty convinced at this point that it's something faulty with the phone. I pretty much tore down and rebuilt my home network yesterday and tried all different types of settings to test the result on my Nexus 4 and nothing made the WiFi speed any better on the phone.

Poor WiFi Range

I'm on my second Nexus 4 and still can't get over how poor the WiFi range is on these phones. Both of my N4s have had the same results. When I'm in an area of my house about 20-25 feet from the router I get 0-1 bars of WiFi, where my laptop and PS3 both get 80-100% connectivity. Every other smartphone I've owned has had better WiFi reception than this. Anyone have suggestions?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Try changing the security settings on your router to use a different protocol. For some reason that made a big difference for me. Generally I've found the WiFi range to be fairly good.

Are you on 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz band? My N4 refuses to work on the 2.4Ghz band. When it did connect, I would get less than 1MB connection link. Switched over to 5Ghz band, and I get a consistent 72MB connection. It even picks it up out to the middle of the street. Try changing bands if you have a capable router. Hopefully the next update will solve the WiFi problems this phone has.

Try flashing a aftermarket kernel such as Franco Kernel. You can change the WiFi algorithm as well to see if it improves at all (changable with his app, Franco Kernel updater)
A lot of people reported that R19 and newer fixed their N4's wifi problems.

[Q] Reallllly slow WiFi

On my Nexus 4 I get about 8Mbps while on cellular data. When I connect to my WiFi network I can barely get 1Mbps. I have a 20Mbps internet connection at my home. My other wireless computers at home get great speeds yet my Nexus 4 goes so slow. Does anyone know why my Nexus 4 would have such low speeds?

Okay well that doesn't really help narrow down the issue except the fact that it's a Nexus 4 problem. Do you have any other devices? Laptops, Desktops (with WiFi), Media Players, etc to run a speed test? If so, run a speed test on those devices, is the WiFi slow on those or are they fast?
What kind of router do you have?
I did a side by side Wi-Fi test with a Galaxy Nexus and a Nexus 4.
The Galaxy Nexus was consistently faster by a few Mbps on download speed. The N4 was faster on upload speed.
Mi WiFi connection stays connected but its incredibly weak compared to my old HTC devices
T-Mobile G2 = 4 bars
Amaze 4G = 3 or 4 bars
Nexus 4 = 1 or 2 bars
All in the same room.

As I said in another post. I also got slow download speeds on my n4. I got about 10Mbit/s down. My n7 get around 30Mbit/s down. Im using asus router n56 with the latest fimrware. I have tried to change every setting in the router but I cant get it to work. Playstore is also very slow.
The strange thing is that from time to time I have got fast download speed(40-50Mbit/s) but it has just been for a very short time.
It is really annoying! I dont know anyone else that got an n4 so I cant compare two units at the same place.
In my house same problem. All devices work at 7 M/b, instead my Nexus 4 and my brother Nexus 4 are very slow...
Hopefully it is a software bug and not hardware-specific.

Kernel is only wifi. So op can flash a custom kernel to try and fix it. Franco kernel contains newer wifi drivers than the stock kernel.

So changing kernel did boost your wifi-speed? Hopefully google updates their kernel with this fix in the next release. Im currently running all stock and my intention was to keep doing that
I have a rev_11 N4, and with the speedtest.net app, I get 30-35 Mb/sec with a 6ms latency. FWIW, I run DD-WRT on the router.
I get 8.5mbps download on Nexus 4 and 19.5mbps on the pc connected to the router.
Don't know if thats good or bad but seems fine to me.
Thats on AOKP rom and franko kernel r24.

Now I compared three devices on my homenetwork. I got 8/11mbps on my n4 (stock 4.2.1), 33/13 on my n7 (stock 4.2.1) and 39/13 on my sgs 1 (custom rom 4.0.4). This is strange. The slow speed on the n4 isnt only appearing in speedtest-apps but also when downloading apps from market. The router is asus n56.
N4. Stock Jellybean.
At home on a Verizon FiOS router, my N4 hits 30/25Mbps, which is MAX speed. I'm using WPA2 with " Compatibility Mode" selected, which I assume to mean 20MHz bandwidth.
At work, my download speeds were slower than a friend's Galaxy Nexus.
From that I would surmise that either the router or the router's settings are the culprit.
If you are experiencing slow speeds at home, I would try changing the 802.11n bandwidth setting.
Google doesn't want you to know this but you all likely have defective devices... as to be expected in this stage.

Ye try a new router or check for a Firmware update for your router, all the issues I am seeing with WIFI are incompatibility between the S4 wifi chip remember it now has AC standard included as well as N. In most cases a router that is less than a year old should have a firmware update older than that your mileage will vary.
Well it connects to the router and usually works to load a web page or fb once n then stops working but today its been working ok apart from once or twice so I doubt its the router if today its been working ok today mostly but I could be wrong
