feel about two roms - Acer Iconia A500

i installed lightspeed and flex rom both.
at present i more like flex rom because i feel maybe it is more stable and more quick(after start, a little quicker)
both have the following problems:
1.both can't find hidden ssid wifi. i have to show ssid.and i feel the conncetion with wifi is weeker than android 3.2 because away from the same distance, the signal is weaker.
2.in both's email, if you want to show combined view, the email app stops.
3.both can't use facebook and twitter app although i can login in on brower. flex rom can use youtube app and till i un-install lightspeed, it can't.
4.in somes app, such as nfs etc, the backward arrow response slowly, needing waiting the app completes its own process and then you can quit by backward arrow.this arrow response more quick in android

Add Network in Wifi settings to connect to network not broadcasting SSID.

Facebook app from market works just fine on flex roms, I think you need to learn how to clean tablet.
You got to know flashing roms can give corrupted data.
Leftovers from previous rom.
Result conflicts and bad running rom.
I didn't try twitter because I hate it.
I could care less if someone just wiped his a$$ and want to twitter about it.

Actually the problem is a little deeper than that for me. But good advice still.
I can get my Iconia to connect to a hidden network on the first attempt. What I mean by first attempt is that about the only time I can connect is immediately after setting my wifi to not broadcast ssid, then adding the network as you've shown. It connects the first time just fine. But once I roam out of range and come back there is a less than 50/50 chance that my tab will "find" my network again. I just gave up after leaving the house a few times. I don't really care if my ssid is seen anyway. My password's a good, meaningless string of numbers and letters. I doubt that even the neighbors kid can bust through that one...

Greyed out GPRS logo?

I recently bought my HTC Touch HD and I was wondering what this greyed out GPRS logo means:

I am not sure if it affects the connection, but I think I can still call and be called, but not receive text messages. Although I haven't really tested that yet. I already tried searching the manual, but it doesn't mention anything about it.
I have installed the following software and updates on the phone
- Official HTC ROM upgrade
- Microsoft .NET CF 3.5
- TomTom Navigator
- HD Tweak
- TF3D Theme Maker 3.3
- Sprite Backup
- Pocket Sudoku (game)
- I244 Atomic Cannon (game)
I am not using internet on my phone yet.
Can somebody explains what this greyed out logo actually means and does to my phone?
Thanks in advance.
i had this recently but it was because i hadn't paid my bill!
think it means you have no internet access due to it not being allowed.
i thought it was a taskbar glitch
i had it for the first time the other day but only when i left coreplayer
i assumed the screen was having trouble coming back frm the display correctly
Its because your internet has been disabled.
You prob wont have mms access either.

I'm with PiLoT on this. I had this about a year ago and it wasn't just with this symbol, also for HSPDA. Phone connected fine to internet but symbol was still greyed out. It was a glitch which sometimes went away with a soft reset. I'm not 100% sure how I eventually fixed it, possibly a combination of changing taskbar/rom etc
i didnt need to soft reset though i just waited a few seconds and it happened
I don't think it's a glitch, I read somewhere that it's a different type of connection, may have been in the Orange guide which came with the phone... I'll try and have a look around for it and let you know
I get the greyed out logo when I disable GPRS Auto Attach using Advanced Config (in Data Connections section). The greyed out logo can be G, or H depending on the coverage at my location. Re-enabling GPRS Auto Attach sets the icon back to normal.
The greyed out logo just means that it cannot establish a data connection with the tower that you are currently registered with.
This will be for one of two reasons;
1) you've turned off your data connection (as the user above has)
2) there is a temporary problem with the network/tower

Substantially improving battery life while connectivity via wifi

Arguably the most impacting variable for battery life on your phone is usage of the radio (wifi, 3g, 2g, etc). This is assuming a properly functioning phone where a particular bugged application is disallowing the phone to sleep (as the Calendar application in the stock 2.1 ROM does). What a lot of people do not know is that wifi battery consumption can be substantially effected by your router configuration.
So here it is:
Make sure WMM (WiFi Multimedia) is enabled on your wifi router.
Tomato WMM Documentation
DD-WRT WMM Documentation
Part the WMM spec is designed to save power on devices such as our phones. All the 3rd party firmware supports it (dd-wrt, Tomato, etc) and many of the more recent routers do out of the box. Chances are you'll find the option to enable it in the QoS section of your router's configuration interface.
Here's a screenshot of my battery usage after 15 hours today, with 58% charge remaining.

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
So check your router configuration (and/or documentation) to make sure this is on and enjoy much better battery life while on wifi.
Thanks for the tip. Using Tomato firmware on a Linksys router and the WMM extensions were disabled (out of box).
BTW, what app are you using to show the battery/power?
I see great battery life as well and my wifi stays on all the time at home
Checked router info and mine was already enabled so that must be why LOL
thanks for the hint
Hmm - mine says 'auto' - does that mean on a device-by-device basis? I'm running Tomato 1.27. I changed it to 'enable', but not sure whether it was in force before or not.

I'm using Battery Indicator Pro -- http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.darshancomputing.BatteryIndicatorPro
I used pmf's services.jar mods to completely hide the stock battery indicator and use this app as a replacement.

htc legend wifi problems

htc legend connects to particular kind of hotspot type in my university. The thing about this is tha , we have to enter login id and password given to us before we can actually start accessing the net.
So , my legend connects but it does not load anything not even the log in page, here are the screen shots

What ROM are you using and what WiFi is it? Look in your wireless settings. By the sound of it, it is 802.1X which I have trouble with on blay0's ROM.
Its this rom - Superuser,Keep It Simple ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=811776
I dont really think its the problem with the ROM.
hmmm
i've noticed a week wifi signal after installing cyanogenmod 6.1 dunno why is like that..
before when i had stocked rom wifi was running better thougt
I dont think its with the signal range. Because ive stood under the router and the signal shows full. Its something else. Please help me out.
Try in settings / wireless / wi-fi parameters
select your hotspot and in the window select forget
select a new time your hotspot and it should open the log in page.
I had similar problem with my box: connected but no internet access and this trick solve it.
^ Tried that. It doesnt work. Erm, tell me how can i help you to get more details about the network ? Basically its a 802.11 g network.
Its not the problem with ONLY my legend. Its with all Legends. The BB Torch , for instance works with the wifi.
Its not the problem with the ROM coz another friend of mine faces the sane problem though he is on original 2.2
Com'on guys ! help me out !

[Q] How to test if Wifi hardware works

I bought a HTC INC2 from a guy last week. It is unlocked so it works perfectly with my ATT sim and I managed to get 2G running. Then I checked the GPS, Camera and so on, everything looks fine until I wen back to home. Because there is no Wifi network in my work place so I didn't find the wifi seems not working. The phone cannot found any wireless network at all. I am sure I made the ssid is broadcasting. I was thought it probably not happy with my wireless router so I closed all security setting. But the phone still cannot find the open network. So I drove to our library where have public wireless access, still nothing. On my way back, I use my other phone as a hotspot, nothing happened even I put two phone together.
Here is a list of things I did in next couple days, went to a office building which hosted a lot of company. Almost all of these company have some sort of wireless network, my other phone in my right hand can found at least 10 networks while the INC2 which in my left hand can find none. I flashed the ROM to CM7, nothing. update radio, nothing.
Flashed to skyrider, nothing. update radio, nothing...
The guy who sold me the phone said the wifi is working perfectly when he is using it with verizon. He updated to iPhone month before so he didn't notice if the phone stop work with wifi after his update. He seems to me a honest guy.....
Now I want to test if the wifi hardware works. I really want to learn something from this frustrating thing. any idea?
TIA
Probably the wifi is not working. I do not own a HTC INC2 but can flash another radio/modem/wifi driver?
Also there is a hidden menu called Field Test Mode. It may have something about wifi. From wikipedia:
There is a hidden "testing" menu on the device that can be accessed by typing *#*#4636#*#* aka *#*#info#*#* on the phone's keypad. It will bring up 5 categories: Phone Information, Battery Information, Battery History, Usage Statistics, and WiFi information.
Other hidden menus from dial pad: (1) ##debug+call, (2) ##program+call enter six zeros example: 000000, (3) *#*#7262626#*#* - Field test menu, (4) *#*#2432546#*#* aka *#*#checkin#*#* - checks for updates, (5) ##778 (+call for Epst menu), (6) *#*#8255#*#* - Gtalk service, (7) *#*#8351#*#* - voice dialer logging enable, (8) *#*#8350#*#* - voice dialer logging disable

nfc wifi connecting help

ok guys im allocating some nfc tags around the public bar i work at,.
i want to put 2 tags on the main bar that connect customers to our wifi, now i know i can do that with commands however
we are using a broadband system provided by heineken beer company, users connect the wifi network, but then must open theyre browser and click a default webpage that comes up instantly to connect to the network.
so how would i set the tags to
connect to the wifi and then click the "connect to heineken wifi" option on the default page?
Are you sure about NFC with its max range of about 20cm? Either way I would imagine that the WiFi hardware supplied takes care of redirecting the user at login

yes that is the idea, customer walks in touches the bar designated spot and connects to wifi,... we dont want a long distance force connect to every customer lol
the supplied wifi asks for the user to open webbrowser and click "use wifi" before actualy being connected. is there such command to get around this?
im on a secret mission to make our bar android friendly :highfive:
Could this the case?
To restrict wifi access to current customers and to make the connection easier (selecting correct wifi service and keying a strong passphrase) the customer touches the tablet onto the bar mounted NFC device and the network wifi config is beamed to the tablet and the customer elects to process the download and get immediate network access.
This link http://mobiletechglobal.com/customer-cases/i-heiwi/ shows a jpeg of the "Heineken Hub"

But it has a button in the middle of the page saying "free premium wifi" the user must click this button before actually being connected to the net,.
