I'm currently aching to be able to play my own music through my car speakers, weird place for this yes.. if it's the wrong section to post this please let me know.
But, I was wondering if it's at all possible to feed the phone's audio through the USB.
For example, I have a USB port on my stero in my car, and when I plug it in..i'm able to feed off my SD card to play the music thats on it. But.. I'd like to be able to play pandora as well..which I'm currently unable to do.
Was wondering if this is possible. If i've confused you feel free to ask more questions

I don't believe this is possible. As far as I know, when you use the usb the deck itself is decoding the mp3's (or whatever music files you're using) directly. It doesn't support playing music through the usb, it just uses the usb to get the files. I hope that makes sense...
So is that why I ca never plat music on my xbox whenever I have a phone hookedup to charge? I thought my xbox just didn't play nice with phones

So your car stereo has a USB input but no auxiliary? If so, your best bet would probably be to get an FM transmitter. Like the poster above said, your car's stereo is merely mounting your phone as a mass storage device and reading the mp3 files off the SD card and decoding and playing them locally.
It sees it as you do on the computer, just a drive. The only way to get what you want is to use a source from the phone that plays audio. Head phone jack or Blue Tooth. Your stereo... if it has USB should also have an AUX input or BT. Havn't come across to many that have USB and not an AUX or BT. Its nice though... having Pandora in the car.
If you tell me the Model of the Stereo I can help you out. I have seen a BT to FM Mod. Those are kinda cool. If your in a pinch with a stock stereo.

Since it isn't possible.. what about an app that allows me to control the music played? I can stream music from the sd, but its got to mount to read therefore I don't have access to the stock music app. Only way to control what's played is the buttons on the stero and its pain staking..

Nope... The phone isn't even connecting to your stereo. When you put it into USB mode so it can read the SD, it unmounted from the phone. Its as if you pulled the SD out and slid it into a card reader. When you pull the plug... It will remount to the phone. You'll notice it scanning for media at the top.
Now when you go BT... You can control it via the stereo or phone, using the Aux you can control it by the phone. "They" could make the phone controllable via USB like an Iphone but they would have to built that into the stereo like they do the Iphones/Ipods. Not likely to happen unless the Galaxy S takes off like IPOD did.
In theory, a rooted Epic with proper kernel support and hacked cable (since they don't exist commercially) can repurpose the data pins on its USB port for left and right analog audio thanks to the Fairchild FSA9480 USB switching chip inside the phone (the same chip enables the USB pins to be repurposed as a serial port with nonstandard voltage levels, enables the normally-unused fifth pin to be used as mic input, enables it to be used with a special "JIG" interface for JTAG reflashing without having to hand-solder anything to the microscopic internal pads, and apparently can also work its magic in conjunction with a chip by Silicon Imaging to use 5 pins to output a signal that can be transformed by a companion chip (embedded in the cable's connector shell) into valid HDCP-compliant HDMI. I'm pretty sure the 9480 can also repurpose the two data pins for external I2C, but don't quote me on it.
Check out the I9000 boards... they're about 2 months ahead of us. If you google for FSA9480, you can find a brief (but revealing) dialogue between a Samsung engineer and the Kernel.org folks regarding a kernel addition to support the chip. He had a few issues, because on one hand he's apparently not allowed to say much about how the chip works or what it does, but the kernel folks managed to wring much of it out of him one juicy detail at a time. If you check Fairchild's site, they don't even acknowledge that the chip EXISTS, but it's been photographed inside all the Galaxy S phones in various teardowns.
In English -- yes, the hardware exists today to connect your phone to a stereo's analog inputs via a cable that repurposes the USB port... but the official software to make it work from Samsung and Sprint doesn't exist, and the information needed to make it work ourselves on a rooted Epic with AOSP isn't quite available yet.
I'm personally quite happy about the uart, because that means we DO have an easy, low-ceremony way to do i/o between something like a gamepad built into a hardcase a-la-iphone-GameBone that doesn't require Bluetooth (note that if something IS using the USB port for UART purposes, the USB port is still active, but the phone sees it as having nothing connected because the signals from the D+ and D- pins are physically re-routed by the 9480 to the CPU's UART pins. Think of the 9480 as being like an old-fashioned telephone panel with cables that can be moved around to connect the USB port's 5 physical pins to different pins inside the phone.
I'm now pretty sure that this is why there are exactly 7 contacts on the microUSB connector inside the phone -- 5 are used to get the pre-HDMI signals out of the phone, and the other 2 (3, if you count the ground/anchor tabs and assume they carry a signal as well in addition to mechanically anchoring it in place) are used to supply +5v and ground, and possibly one wire for half-duplex signaling purposes.
Wow that was a lot of info... lol. I didn't know that about the usb tho. That's good to know. I was thinking of taking it apart to see.
But... I think he's wanting a UI via the USB like the way some players will do for the IPODs, not analog. To go throught all that when the Head Phone jack will do the same... I could only see that if it was broken or if you really really want only one cord to the phone.

I've got an Alpine unit, I hook my USB up - turn on the TUNER. Mount the Drive and once the phone is done - swap back over to USB and i can get all my MP3S. sadly I get all of my ringtones too - odd when the radio is full blast and a track changes - none the less works well for me. Try it.
I purchased this Kensington LiquidAUX Bluetooth Car Kit for my phone a few days ago. It works perfectly on my sister's iPod touch (no AVRCP [silly apple]) and an old WinMo 6.1 phone.
I just got my Epic in the mail today so I'll be testing it out soon.
WTF. AVRCP (bluetooth remote control) is really buggy with this phone. I used the LiquidAUX with an old Omnia for a week with no problems. The Epic connects and plays audio just fine. I can also pause and play music but the forward and back buttons don't work. When I first pair the phone with the device everything is fine, but after disconnecting and reconnecting the remote control stops working. I got it to work after un-paring and re-pairing but it only worked once.
The Moment I had before this had really choppy audio.
EDIT: I had the phone opened up in DDMS and the phone is receiving signals from the remote. But it only reacts to them when the media player is on the screen. Weird.
Is there anyway to get a wireless keyboard/mouse working. I have a media center keyboard with trackball and nothing happens with just plugging in the USB.
Thats strange, I have plugged in many USB devices and have had no issues with them working, keyboard, mouse etc....are you on the newest firmware?
Yes, I am on the latest firmware but keep in mind I am talking about a wireless dongle for a wireless keyboard and not a usb keyboard. Are you using a wireless keyboard or mouse?
i have an old logitech wireless mouse - works goog, but klicking is a little bit hard to do - doubleklick and no good focus on the mouse.....maybe its my old mouse.....but in the german android-hilfe forums some users have the same issues...
A wireless dongle may either draw too much power or more likely require a funky driver. Does it require a special driver on a desktop system?
My suggestion would be to go with a Bluetooth keyboard, they seem to work well. I just got an Apple Bluetooth wireless keyboard lashed up to my A70 today.
Yeah, I imagine it's a driver issue alright. Probably needs a software package to get it running correctly.
I have a wireless keyboard with a built in trackpad that works perfectly. This one is similiar but not the same. I normally have it for my media pc, but it works so well with the archos that I am thinking of buying a new one just for it.
IMO, if you can find a wireless device that works with just plug 'n play on a linux box then there is a good chance that it will work with your Archos.

Thanks for the input guys. I had to insert the usb before booting up and it works. Sure makes typing much much faster. One question though, how do you scroll up and down in Dolphin or any other browser?

Yes you can. I've been using my Microsoft mini notebook mouse which is just straight bluetooth (doesn't even come with a dongle) - worked absolutely fine right off the bat.
My only issue is that the moment is a bit slow for my liking, and there's no setting to change the cursor movement speed.
Apple Magic Mouse should work fine..
If you want a cheap option and have a Fry's nearby I've found that this Inland bluetooth travel mouse works great with the Asus Transformer. The catch being that it didn't work a bit prior to the 3.1 OTA upgrade but after that it's been working great. It's a nice portable size and pretty adequate for as much as I use it.

I bought cheapest bluetooth mouse out there (the producer is Manta or sth like that) and it work fine, very fine.
I am using my Logitech mini mouse from my Laptop and pluged into the USB it works fine.. I am thinking that a Bluetooth mouse would be kinda nice though..

Has anyone managed to get a bluetooth mouse to work just with the pad,i.e no dock involved at all? I ask as I have a very fancy ms bluetooth mouse but my TF wont see it as it hasn't got the drivers which are added to my laptop which , obviously, are designed for windows and not android..not sure how to get around this issue short of buying the dock and just plugging into the usb with a cheapo corded mouse which kinda defeats the object of what I'd like to do

I'm using the least expensive one I could find, a Gigabyte I got from Newegg. Turns out it's nicer than any other bluetooth I've tried. I got it to use with the pad and it pairs and works fine with or without the dock connected.
There are no drivers for android for any mouse, so as far as I know there's no way to map the buttons. There is however a setup section for the mouse where you can adjust the cursor speed.

Okay, the first question is aimed at Mad Catz Rich as from what I gathered he is a Mad Catz rep.
Can we expect an OS update to the MOJO? An update to at least 4.3 is important because of FSTrim which seriously affect performance in the long run.
The second question is about the bluetooth and aimed at anybody who can answer. Supposedly the MOJO supports bluetooth but I've also seen mention of a dongle. Do you actually need the dongle to use the controller or is it only for when connecting it to a PC (if it's a requirement it eats up an entire USB right?) So does bluetooth on the device work without the dongle? Can you easily connect devices such as a mouse and a keyboard?
I'm interested in the MOJO but gaming is only third on my list. I want it more as a low power (HT)PC running android so I want to know if my logitech K810 (great for only using one keyboard when switching between the phone, tablet, and PC) would work on it and an actual mouse would be nice since it might take a while to get accustomed to using the mouse mode on the C.T.R.L. (plus I saw some comment somewhere where the person was concerned with the durability of the switch as it would get constant use and a mouse would avoid the need for constant switching).
I'm not sure whether to wait or not as game compatibility is only semi important for me for me (plus I have several humble bundle android games which might avoid the need for play store compatibility). But video playback is important as is the keyboard and mouse. If those work then despite the limited game selection it might be worth it for me.

Controller has built in blue tooth. Just flip the switch the the far left(blue tooth) and hold start button for 5 seconds. Controller will light up and seek nearby Bluetooth devices and sync.

Works fine, a bit treaky to get used to but very functional.
I haven't tried removing the BT smart dongle, I would say it does need the dongle for the controller only because of android 4.2.2 doesn't support it.
On the new egg TV vid, there's confirmation of Android 4.4 kitkat coming, so I guess that's coming, and when it does the dongle wont be needed on the mojo, as from 4.3 it does support BT smart natively.

Unfortunately, the Android OS won't be able to take advantage of this until KitKat is made more widely available. So, in the meantime, the USB dongle is included to make up for this connection. This will be similar for other Bluetooth Smart devices that don't have the OS/hardware matching up yet. The Bluetooth 4.0 built-in, however, is backwards-compatible with all Bluetooth Classic connections.
Regarding USB ports, using a USB hub should be just fine for connecting additional USB devices. Ie, wired keyboard, wired mouse, usb dongle wireless keyboard or mouse, xbox 360 controller, external hard drives, thumbdrives, etc.

Just to clarify this even further, whilst 4.3 adds Bluetooth Smart support it doesn't have support for all Bluetooth Smart profiles. 4.4 adds support for HID over GATT which is what's needed for Smart mice, keyboards and game controllers.

Gamepads have to be specifically created for iOS in order for them to work so, no dice there I'm afraid. The CTRLR will pair directly with one of the following:
Android device running 4.4 + Bluetooth 4.0 chip
Windows 8/8.1 PC with Bluetooth 4.0 chip
Macbook running Mavericks with Bluetooth 4.0 chip

My tablet is running 4.0.4 with the MC BT4 dongle over OTG and works fine.

Yep - I did say directly
With the dongle, of course, you can connect it to anything that supports a USB gamepad (and which doesn't require some other form of authentication, such as Xbox 360), which even includes a Playstation 3 (although the button assignments will be all kinds of wrong).

That would mean, I could use the controller with my LG G2 and Nexus 7 ? Both are supporting USB gamepads, keyboards and mousecontroll.
If the Mad Catz BT dongle would act like any other wireless to USB keyboard transmitter, it should work " out of the box ".

It should be - the dongle conforms completely to the HID USB standard so it doesn't do anything funky or out of the ordinary. That said, I've noticed on our Nexus 7 that sometimes you have to unplug/replug the OTG cable a couple of times to get it to recognise correctly, depending on the OTG cable that you use. You can tell if you've got a good connection because the home button LED should illuminate blue rather than flashing.
So yes, provided you've got a good OTG cable and all other things being equal it will work on any device that supports USB game controllers.
I've used this OTG cable on many different devices. It's definately full working. Before my former post, I have rechecked if my wireless keyboard with USB dongle works. Sony Sixaxis on USB are fine working. On both devices. Both devices even have enough power output to run harddrives.
The LG has JB 4.2.2 and the N7 has the actual 4.4.2 running. The controler simply can't pair.
In terminal lsusb didn't even list the dongle as recognized device.

It's clear that it's not getting initialised through that OTG but can't explain why that is happening, I'm afraid. If it's working through your M.O.J.O. then we know it's okay and we don't do anything specific at all on M.O.J.O. to support it - it really is just a USB HID compliant dongle.
Strange, if I connect the bt dongle through a passive hub, it will be recognized by my G2 and N7.
It's not a really handy solution.

I bought another OTG cable and now, the dongle is recognized to my LG G2 without the HUB.
So, you're absolutely right. The C.T.R.L.R USB-dongle should work with any device. :good:
Hey everyone! I bought an Onn. Streaming Box at Walmart a couple of days ago, intending to run Torque Pro on my car's preexisting Backup Screen w/ a Bluetooth OBD2 dongle (a tiny $25 self-contained Android box seemed to make a lot of sense for that application). I sideloaded the Torque apk onto the box and used a remote app w/ mouse cursor to set up the layout, but when I went to finally pair the OBD2 dongle, it wouldn't pick it up. Since the screen just says "Accessories", I'm guessing you can only pair things like headphones, controllers, keyboards, etc.
I also tried sideloading "Bluetooth Direct", and forcibly connecting to my phone's Bluetooth address (just to test), and it couldn't connect (it seems like that app doesn't work for a lot of people though).
Is there any way around this?
I'm waiting for a powered OTG cable to be delivered today, so I can root and hopefully figure something out that way. It seems weird if it's really a limitation built into the OS, since regular android is buried underneath there somewhere, and it isn't like the box has some special Bluetooth hardware that limits it to certain devices.
If all else fails, maybe I could just get an OBD2 to USB cord and plug into an OTG, but idk if that would work either (it should on other Android devices).
And for anyone wondering, yes, the Android TV UI optimized for giant 4k TV's does not work well on a 5" 480p HDMI -> RCA screen, LOL.
Figured this out if anybody wants to do something similar, I just sideloaded the app "Bluetooth Scanner - Bluetooth finder - pairing" (com.pzolee.bluetoothscanner), and was able to pair it right away. I am running LineageOS and rooted with Magisk, but I'd think this should work on stock too.
