Changing LCD density without problems - Galaxy S II General

So guys,I wanted a long time ago,in a rom far far away ( ) to change my LCD density, because I found it very cool to make my screen seem like a higher resolution one. Also,it's like it grows in size, because more things fit in the same physical space.
However,in Samsung roms(I think only the HyperDroid rom doesn't have this problem, without me being 100% sure) problems can arise when changing DPI in the build.prop .One problem was that the camera was FCing, other problems included incompatibilities with the market etc.My deterrent to lower my DPI was the non-functioning camera.
Anyway,I visited the Desire HD forums 3 days ago,and I found something rather interesting in the IceColdSandwich rom thread. So,for this one all credit goes to LordClockan(Rom and kerned developer for the Desire HD) and alienmind(He and LordClockan are on the same team,or kind of,I don't exactly know),who found out about this(Or at least that's where I heard it from).
So,to change your dpi you can go to /data/local.prop (if the file isn't there just create it with root explorer) and write this line: qemu.sf.lcd_density=xxx,where "xxx" is whatever value you want.
So,while this isn't the best superduperwow tweak ever, and while some may already know it,it is useful after all,so I thought of sharing it with you guys.

Hi,
this solution isn't working for me :-( Tried on the latest leaked ICS 4.0.3. LPH original Samsung and Pure ICS Special edition 6.1 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1451346. Both with the same result. Nothing happened. DPI is still 240. Checked several times - name and location of local.prop file and corectness of the string qemu.sf.lcd_density=xxx (xxx is 170 in my case) Any advices, pls?

First,I think it has to have the right permissions.Dunno which it needs exactly, but try chmod 777.Also,the dpi value must be a multiple of 8,so try 168 or 176 if you want to be close to 160.Try these and report back.
Meanwhile,I'm wondering why the thread has a 1 star rating. It's not anything spectacular, but wtf?Anyway,I ain't here for being congratulated,so be it.
EDIT:Bear in mind that nothing will change in your build.prop .There,it'll still show 240.You will just see the difference.

Has anyone tried changing the dpi on gb roms?

yep tried and worked very well with this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.birdapi.android.dpipro&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5iaXJkYXBpLmFuZHJvaWQuZHBpcHJvIl0.
changed to 200 dpi
looks awesome

I used build.prop Editor to add a new property and it worked like charm
Thanks

Thanks for advices. I did everything as you said. Changed value to 176. Check premission - granted 777. The value 240 checked in the build.prop Without success It seems that system ingore this file completely. Whatever is in local.prop file, DPI is still 240
It was the same yesterday when my S2 was running on latest beta leak LPH and the same behaviour with today's official ICS from Smamsung LPQ.

[Rom] WanHu's rom Froyo (TV out works)

since the CBW's Official froyo doesn't solve
-TV out (3.5mm A/V analog ) function,
-media button not works
-radio volume issue
-app2ext
i Recommend you try the WanHu's rom
-this rom is base on official Korean Froyo and Dexter's
-the rom is make by a Chinese Developer with the ID call wanhu (万户)
I personally think that this ROM is best for me
-if you want to use TV OUT over 3.5mm jack ,it requires the stock 2.1 south east Asia or Singapore version (STR_U2_01.18.2_UCASHLSTABB1B4DEMA033.0R_USASHLSTBSTARSG_P016_A013_HWp3_1FF.sbf) installed first ,.other 2.1 sbf don't work For 3.5mm TV-out ,
- Use the Milestone Overclock version 1.4.2 it works stable at 900 Mhz , 59 Vsel
-i notice that Old market can't update ,one of the reason (Maybe) is when you type your google account after you finished type your password don't hurry to press the next button yet...see what's change with your user name ? my situration is everytime i finished typing pw..my user name has add a "g" letter..very wired but after recorrect the username you can run the market and update..
-swap kernel supported i can use fastboot to boot fj's kernel. but sometime get reboot by itself..maybe bcoz of my class2 16 g sd card problem..coz i test with my 8G C4 card..it never happened
-this rom is also good for those who want to use Simplified Chinese in language ,coz most of the roms don't have that..only traditional..
-this rom also good at CDMA network SMS sending, many roms have this problem ,at least is China .you send English or Chinese SMS to a CDMA handset user, the get symbols like this is message ...#^@%^&%$&#$..but with Wanhu's rom you don't have to worry about it ..

Oh, hell yes! Excellent! I've been thinking lately that Dexter made a wrong turn when he gave up on the Korean ROM and started porting everything from the A853. My stupid thanks button has me locked out from yesterday. I'll be back in 24hrs to click your buttons!
Haptic feedback feels like 2.1's.
FM Radio works.
Media key works.
Magnifier during cursor positioning works.
But, haven't figured out how to change the keyboard back to qwerty yet. Definitely the right foundation.
[oops this one was wrong thread]
I've just loaded this ROM. Hmmmm.....
Okay, how do we combine the two, this one with Cincinnati Bell's?
I think we may have a winner if we do!
Wow! Thanks for this great ROM! It still has a few bugs, but it's lightning fast and superb to work with! I haven't even overclocked it but it's way faster than MIUI overclocked! Thank you so much for this ROM WanHu!

If you haven't already done that, update your TB, the last version works on ICS.
I've been really enjoying this build. Thanks alot for the whole team!
UI runs very smooth and basicly no log at all.
Almost everything works better compared to the orginal 2.3.3 stock rom I used before.
Few things I noticed, the battery life seems to be somewhat worse.
Also a question about the multitasking in ICS. I cant find a way to open the thumbnails? Long pressing home doesnt seem to work and since theres no software based keys (which I think is a good thing) I'm not sure what to do.
Tab P1000 and I'm using the latest kerned (30.1) with bt fix and rom.

Hi all, this thread is a good idea, it mostly works on the galaxy s 2 cm9 forum but their are still idiots posting in the development area. Codeworx (the developer on s2 cm9 thread) has really bought into it and tells people to post in the discussion thread if they post noob stuff in the dev thread. If the devs here (cdesai, humberOS etc) buy into this discussion thread then maybe more people will use it
Anyways, i tried changing lcd density to 120 to check out more tablet apps on the market but when I do the keyboard zooms and I can only see half of it, so I can't type properly... Any ideas?

I know that I used the honeycomb alpha at 120 and liked it that small. But my question isn't about the best density to have, it's about the keyboard at 120 and if anyone knows how to fix it or has any suggestions.
This is my GalaxyTab. There are many like it but this one is mine.
If, by some kind of freak occurrence I helped you, please hit THANKS!

It would be awsome if there is such way to force apps to start in tablet UI with 160 LCD density coz 120 is very small for 7" displays

Hey guys, I tried to flash the latest ICS build for the P1000, but my tablet wont leave the start up screen...
I downloaded both files, replaced the kernel part of the zip with the one specific for the P1000, wiped cache, davik and reset user settings.
Then I flashed the zip file, but at reboot it won't leave the start up screen.
Any idea on what I may have done wrong?
Thanks!

ICS AOKP ROM for the u8800

This is an AOKP ROM for the u8800. It is ported from Huawei Honor B977 4.0.3. I'd like to know if anyone else has tried this and what they think. It's a chinese rom from the anzhi forums (original thread)
I flashed this ROM just now ( thanks fjsferreira for the mirror), this is my feedback:
- Fast, smooth (on par with Aurora).
- Wifi, mobile data, bluetooth, and the like work.
- No gapps, Play Store, camera, browser...(you pretty much have to install everything yourself).
- No strip unicode in the Mms.apk.
- Popup notification support in the Mms.apk.
- Cool AOKP tweaks (naturally...).
- No theme-chooser (meaning you'll have to stick with the mix of Touchwiz 5, ICS and lots of tranparency that is the UI).
- Long pressing the Home key doesn't show the multi-tasking interface and doesn't take you to the Homescreen.
- The SEARCH key is set to turn off the screen (to revert it to its normal function (searching!), check this post).
- I'll add more feedback information as more people try it and report.

Make sure the system folder fits in your system partition. I think you need to chacge the partitions in order to flash this, but I'm not sure. Our phone's default system partition is 210 mb
Has anyone tried it? Or have mirror?
I would love to give a try, but download time shows me 18 hours...
I have tried the previous ver actually..... Partition is a must, otherwise phone wont pass Huawei logo. Its ported from Huawei Honor ...every thing works well but Home key does not work..... But be aware some time it happens that you cant return to stock partition and you wont be able to Flash official 2.3 or Froyo ROM back.

Actually this version is much smaller (109MB) than the previous (180MB), so it may not need re-partitioning. It has a ".UP" suffix so maybe it is an update flashable only and you need the previous installed, but I can't know since I cannot download it. It just goes soooooo slowwww....

If you guys use something to stabilize the download, like free download manager, speed is always above 800 KB/s (I've just finished my download, took less than 3mins)

EDIT: anyway, here it is
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B4ZMZwAV0MEaVUUzMjRDM2JyXzg
(I didn't try this ROM yet, and probably won't, Aurora is completely stable for me right now)
Well, just went ahead and tried the ROM. From my 10 minutes playing with it, everything seems to work, wifi, mobile data, bluetooth and camera (camera isn't included by default, you have to install one).
Also, no market by default, you have to manually edit the zip file and include the market apk in it.
Sadly I had to uninstall it after 10 mins because, and I'm seeing this more and more, the dev completely screwed up the UI... it's simply horrible, it's not default AOKP at all... He made a complete mess with icons from samsung, an horrible background in every app, horrible popups and menus, etc... I didn't like that at all. I didn't even took the time to create screenshots, I'm sorry, because it was burning my eyes...
There are some stuff completely in chinese, in the ROM control area of the settings, but overall, you can choose any language that Android includes. Note, while the theme of the UI isn't AOKP, the ROM itself is, with the usual settings AOKP provides,
Performance wise, I saw no difference than with aurora...

Thanks. I reverted to the good old .32 kernel yesterday, so I won't be testing this one for now. However, I'll still update the OP with the links to the latest version and the features/bugs list.

Note 10.1 (2014 edition) apps?

Hi. I was wondering if anyone can provide any deodexed apps from the Note 10.1 (2014 edition). Might be fun to try on Note 3. Thanks!
Moderator: I would consider this query more so a request not a question. But if not deemed so please move to question section.

Dang! I prefer the tablet apps of the ones you mentioned as well. What dpi did you try? (btw I noticed on my phone when changing dpi to 200 phone freezes and i had to reinstall back up. But it survived 160 and 360.). Regardless, you might provide the deodexed version of apks for others to play with.

I tested all dpi from 145 till 213 . This is sad to see such a good phone with regular seccontacts and secphone instead as Samsung tablets one

Hi. I found a deodexed version of Note 10.1 (2014 edition) here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2533252
I extracted some of the files and got SecMyFiles2.apk to work on Note 3. The only setting I changed, using App Settings, was the dpi on MyFiles2. Here dpi=300 worked pretty well. Note the d on word downloaded is not right. I could not get worldclock to work doing the same thing. Beware, trying some of these apks can cause boot loops so be sure to back up before you start playing with them. Perhaps someone will have some luck with seccontacts and related apks. Please do report on experience.

[Q] Question about SlimKat 4.4.2

Hello guys,
First of all, let me make it clear lol. Even though I have read rules and regulations, I apologize if I may break any rules by posting this here.
Secondly, a newbie at android development here. I recently rooted my nexus 4 and installed SlimKat 4.4.2. After the reboot, it looked pretty normal and everything seemed to be working fine. However, I rebooted my phone second time and the APP MENU and Clock changed their position. APP MENU seemed to have moved to right, rather than on centre. Same thing with Clock. It cannot be placed right in the middle as any normal OS would have (please refer to the pictures). I am aware of the fact that this version of SlimKat is not as stable as 4.3. Therefore, before I flash it to 4.3, I wanted to see if there would be a cure.
My last question is, if I want to install Franco Kernel, would it be compatible with SlimKat 4.4.2?
Thanks.
Yes to Franco kernel and you're problem is that slimkat has a different dpi from most stock roms . I haven't installed the rom but I think there may be an option in the settings to change it back , if not its easily done via the build prop . Just Google it. From my following of the thread it seems to be an excellent choice of rom , so change what you need to then enjoy.
Phone : Nexus 4 /Rom : cataclysm / Kernel : Stock.
I tried but

Thanks for the reply man but my curiosity got me. Even before you replied, I tried installing FK r193 and it failed . Like, I rebooted after installation. It was stuck to black screen of death right after the Google's logo. I had to reinstall the ROM in order to overcome the BSOD problem.
Also, do you think I can go back from Slimkat 4.4.2 to Kitkat 4.4.2 (original OS) and then Install FK?

That screen you're posting maybe due to the grid dimension change in the launcher. Sometimes it is buggy and changed by itself upon reboot. Seems to be happening across many roms randomly (mostly it changed the grid in appdrawer by itself) using that google launcher. For franco, r193 seems quite old right? Why not try it with the latest one?
Yes, you can just go back to stock 4.4.2. If you had made a nand backup of your stock, then it will be easier. If you don't, then just flash back 4.4.2 factory images or just try other roms. There are many good ones out there.

Lol yeah. I finally figured. I downloaded it from a youtube video, and the link he posted was in Aug '13. I m trying to google it but It leads me to xda page where I cant seem to locate the older versions. does FK has a proper website from where I can download latest update? Also, how would I know if I need JSS or JWR? I mean, I tried doing my research and I found the following xda page.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/info-android-4-3-jss15jjss15q-vs-t2382880
I'm still confused. But eh, thanks for replying mate. I'm loving this forum!

Jwr/jss is 4.3 kernel. Nothing to worry about that as we are using 4.4+ Here, this is franco's thread. You can get the link for latest build there. Alternatively, you can buy his app (Franco Kernel Updater) in playstore to get updates.

The positioning of the app drawer and clock has to do with the dip. Download textdroider dpi from playstore and change your dpi to 280 and that will fix the missalignment problem.

Or just open build.prop in device/system/build.prop and edit this line
ro.sf.lcd_density=set your value :good:

Yes, that's what I do. But I guess I chose to share the easy way out. Either way I don't really use Google experience launcher, I use Nova launcher so I'm not affected by the dpi missalignment.
So to do it manually do as posted above, edit buld.prop. To do it easily download textdroider dpi.

Yeah, using nova here too so that I can theme the icons. Using xposed to mask the icons is too much of a hassle.
