Rooted defy on stock rom - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Playing with my wifes defy. Its rooted on stock rom. Looking for a GB rom with everything working for a green lens defy. Whats suggested. Everything i seem to read in my little time searching, is red lens or green lens without working camera. So everything has to work.

I agree, go to cyanogemmod site and use a stable version

Thank for the info. Not real familiar with the defy. Going to give the 7.1 a try and see if she gets mad. LOL

Better take latest one from here. It are the builds of Epsylon. He's the (one of) the guy's who push everything to the official nightly's. Latest stable one is old and the latest one's are even more stable

Labsin is telling the best route. I have epsylon3's cm9 rom installed. His builds are great!

Going to be giving this a shot tonight.

Ok installed the latest nightly and there is no market app. Installed market from on line and it will not work. Now what. Ill have to restore backup if not a solution immediatly. Wife is not happy.

I have the fix for you:
Download the GAPPS for the ROM you use,
will probably be on the same thread.
Flash it in CMW!
Hey presto, working everything!

Cm7 stable roms.

What do u consider is the best stable cm7 rom right now. I'm having small issues with 7.0.3. And I'm wanting to knw is there any more that's really stable.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Flash the latest nightly. I stuck with 7.0.3 for awhile, but out of interest of a certain feature, I began flashing the nightlies.
For me, they have been very stable; I haven't had any significant issues. So, its MY opinion that you should flash the latest nightly, and from that point forward, flash them whenever they contain something of interest to you.
When upgrading from 7.0.3 to the nightlies, I only wiped cache and dalvik cache as to not lose my settings. I have had no issue doing that, and that is all that I wipe when flashing any subsequent nightly.
Whatever you decide, I hope the issues you are having get solved.
There is the new CM 7.1 RC1 out which I just flashed yesterday. Hasn't been a lot of talk about on here. Seems to be a bit more stable than 7.03 to me. You have to do a full wipe when installing it, it can't be flashed over 7.0.3 as it has the 2.3.4 framework. I used ROM Manager to download and install it along with a fresh install of gapps.
What is the latest nighty

Ok. I just flashed cm7 nightly 134. Its running great. Which kernel do any of you suggest with this rom.

I absolutely second this. Used a lot of kernels, most DEV's don't even upkeep but chad (developer for incredikernel) keeps it going with constant improvements.
Latest release of his kernel + maybe flashing a mod of his that will undervolt your phone to save more battery.
I'm still on #106 but I'm sure 134 runs better, I just don't want to redo all my settings/backup/restore and all that fun stuff.
The version you have is rather old and will definitely have a few more bugs and hiccups than the latest release. Worth the flash IMO
So if I have a old version. Where can I find the new one.

And where can I find Chad's kernels and mods. And which kernel of his should I go with.

I see there is a voltage tweak. I have never messed with that. So I have no clue really what it does.

Ooopps. Didn't mean to do that.

I'm using CM 7.1 RC1 w/Chad's (7/06) Incredikernel. It has been stable with a few minor issues which I hadn't encountered in the stable version.
With the Incredikernel, I leave the governor on smartass and it handles everything else. With juice defender, some auto brightness adjustments which are found on the XDA website, and the incredikernel, battery life is very good.

Latest ICS for Defy not working on Bravo

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20056083#post20056083
It's sad I think it's because it runs on 2.3.4+ kernel version. The older one was 2.2. What can we do?
Why can't we change our kernel
Sent from my MB520 using XDA App
Motorola locked it. We can't unlock it without there signiture.
Sent from my MB520 using XDA App
What we need is that developer who is working with it now, to create a rom without the new kernel, I think walter79 is working them, I'll asking him.
If I'm not mistaken the green lense defy still has to use the froyo kernel

walter79 told that we need to compile ICS with froyo kernel, but how can we do that?
He sent this: https://github.com/Quarx2k
in the ics thread there is something how to do it!!
Compiling ics is ridicolous amount of ram needed. 20gigs I think... bravomotorola... check your pm
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Since we really have no true devs we are going to have to look for one with knowledge of code. We may have to donate some money to someone to get them a bravo unless there's someone with an extra that is willing to let someone use it. That's our true problem is that the defy, Atrix, galaxy s, and other phones have support from cm and alot of experienced devs that have been developing since the magic and hero days.

Hey there.
Are you gonna help us with something about ICS?
Well I think we need first a fully working 2.3, then we can go to the next step.
Thanks everything

Yes, the results from the excellent tip: Well first I moved over the framework and apps like rdanner said, and it worked! Then I moved over the ect folder for working gps and better working wifi and such, and it also worked and booted! It runs pretty well, but the only problem is 3D (egl libs) don't work with the 2.2 kernel (this is a guess kind of, I'm guessing it needs the 2.3 kernel). Any time I move over newer libs from the newer build I get stuck at the moto screen. I still suggest people to try it out though, I don't have the signal working yet I don't think unless it already works...maybe try playing with the baseband switcher. The build is pretty smooth and wifi and orientation both work good...
Try it here
ICS gapps here
After install wipe data/factory reset and cache and dalvic cache maybe... I would boot it up first and do gapps after it's booted. Have fun, and thanks again rdanner!
You cannot usually mix gb libs with froyo libs..

The kernel... probably not... you need a factory gb kernel source Wich the bravo does not have...

Is that why you get that bootloader error when trying to flash it?
EDIT:
LOL!! I quote Epsylon's thread under to do list:
2.2 kernels :
Fix Google maps, no errors but no layer drawed (working only with defy+ kernel and gl libs)
Fix 3D (galery, opengl etc...) working with only defy+ kernel and gl libs

Looks like he might get 3D working for our 2.2 kernels!!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065798 has been very helpfull to me for all the basic stuff, and the latest version of quarx's cm7.1 is available here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033654

Is it hapening due to less sd card free space?
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
Propably yes. You need about 200~500mb depending on the amount of apps.
Also have a look at Titanium Backup. That app is used to migrate your apps to your new rom. For example for savings with games...

[Q] What is the most stable ICS-based ROM for Defy

I have a Defy with green lens and I have the latest WIUI V4 installed. It works good for me because the camera and video recorder are working but there's no radio, the gps can't find my location and the battery gets drained too fast when using wi-fi (as compared to MIUI Pikachu or WIUI Hybrid). So which ICS-based ROM works best for you? Thanks.

Which version? The latest?
The latest has reboots use the second to last one. I find fuzz builds better tho. The latest fuzz build is stable enough, as in no reboots.

is this still the most stable ICS ? I have suddenly started having problems with my wifi (despite havng this build for several months now).
Could upgrade to CM10 but not that keen due to the hassle of reloading apps, losing settings etc.
Cheers

Cm 7.2

What are the most popular or stable cm7.2 ROMs? Or is there actually only one cm ROM available?
I'm on 7.1 and I forgot how i flashed and all that stuff, so, I'm trying to get up to date and cm9 appears not to be daily driver ready yet?
Thanks everyone.

As mentioned in many other similar topics, CM7 offers the maximum satisfaction in all aspects, but CM9 can be used as daily system too as it offers almost everything apart the hardware acceleration.
Better try and judge yourself. You could even make a Dual boot sdcard to get the most of the 2 systems.
Produced by NookColor at ICS AOKP 4.0.4
Sounds good. Thank you.

There's a stable cm7.2. Rom you can download at the cyanogen mod download site. I run that off an SD card, and its great
