Want my stats for my battery life? - Epic 4G General

I figured out the easiest way to get amazing life on my battery. These screenshots were taken with 1 hour of screen on plus. I only use juice defender ultimate. Which I am willing to post the file up if I'm aloud to... here's the sc's!

If you had high screen on time, then it would be impressive. Not trying to be mean but its common sense that anything that uses a battery will get long life when you don't or barely use the device.

Certainly don't see the point of starting a new thread over this. I get that all the time without Juice defender. You could have posted it inside a relative thread like maybe the ROM you are using.

Yes I understand what you mean. I guess its my fault for not being very clear. Normally I get bad battery life but I noticed this major increase and thought I'd share. Here's a list of what's been done with these screenshots:
-full brightness
-1 hour plus of gameplay straight
-45 minutes of text and calls(10 seconds of screen on for texts and screen is off for calls *bluetooth*)
-30 minutes of music(screen is off)
Maybe I should be a little more specific of what I've done. Juice defender claims its increased my life by 2.13x. My fault I wasn't specific.

Its all good, show us your on battery and on screen times at the end of the cycle, go into detail like you did and then that will really wow us lol. But so far so good, its always more "wowing" when the on screen time is high.

This. So much of this, the only way to compare battery life even slightly is screen on time with a single charge

The only thing I'm confused on is you said you played games for an hour straight, but there doesn't appear to be any place where it looks like the screen was on for an hour straight. I mean, 8h of timing, an hour would be slightly more than a 10% bar in the stats, and there doesn't appear to be anything showing that.

And what you were doing. There is a BIG difference between playing a game on your phone for 4 hours and surfing the web or XDA for 4 hours. 3G data eats up a ton of battery especially in low signal areas. I can get 4 hours screen on time on CM9 as long as I stay on wifi but throw 3G in and a 2 1/2 hours is more like it.

I looked at the picture and I see what you mean. I'm guessing it wasn't exactly an hour but it was a good amount of time over 30 minutes

I get that without juice defender (If I did use it, I would actually pay to support the developer and not pirate). I also have like 2 hours of screen on and get that.

No need to be a *** about it. Why would I support the developer if the only difference is that I can control when data is on with specific apps. I could make an app like that myself if I really wanted to. If you get that much life then don't post, this thread was meant to help others who like me have crappy battery life.

If time wasn't in the question then yes I could. I made apple apps but I'm sure android is nothing like it. I don't even have enough time to flash a new modem... I'll tell you what, if I ever get the time to do this I promise you I will make an app similar to this. If I ever get the time it will bet in at least 12 years due to school. And during the summer I work on my dads car which is more of a hobby but it still takes up a lot of time. You have my word: once I get the time I'll make the app.
And I like your sig! ShadowKernel is my choice too!

All valid points, however, due to all of these points, you cannot make your own app. So what's wrong with supporting a developer that has different life circumstances that allow them to create an app that makes your life easier so you don't have to worry about it and can focus on the things that are REALLY important to you?
just saying. Then again, I'm drinking some double arrogant bastard ATM, so suffice me if I'm butting into something I shouldn't be lol

2.) Lagging keyboard
3.) Force closing
4.) Overheating on wifi tether
5.) Never downloading anything from market until i turned wifi on/off.
6.) Always lagging so I end up not redialing someone, but dialing the last person I called/ who called me.
7.) ****ing bootlooping whenever i try jit or any jit rom
8.) Not supporting better porn sites
9.) Not printing money or making me an island and flying me there.
Thank you Htc Evo for...

1) No random calls - front pocket has been nice to me so far, plus adding a lockscreen or disabling Menu(x2) to unlock seems to work as well
2) Swype, Dvorak, Swiftkey ftw
3) could be a whole array of different things related to the rom, kernel, app, etc.
4) errybody hates this you could try a handheld fan
5) lolwut probably a google talk issue
6) Mhm, mhm. wait a second.. "I end up not redialing someone" -> "Dialing the last person I called/who called me" What's your definition of redialing?
7) Jit'ing only feels good if you do it sparingly, otherwise you start to slow down and eventually your phone becomes impotent when it comes to jit
8) you're lonely.. we've all been there. Don't blame the phone, thats why you should get a laptop bigger screens ftw

What do I get? A fast and responsive phone running 2.2 that lasts 2 days on a charge. Sorry you have bad luck, or haven't optimized your phone to get the best out of it. Also, the "I shouldn't have to" excuse is weak if you're so disappointed in a phone that came out a year ago. I can't wait until the next big sprint phone comes along but to be honest I have nothing to complain about, I'm that satisfied. HUGE difference from the ****ty instinct I had before. lol

I had a ****ty instinct too! I bought 2 of them, one for me and one for wife. It was to be the iphone killer! Yeah right I remember they held a app contest, trying to get more developers to make apps for the phone. All that came was a few apps and a bunch of complaining from the dev that sprint wont release code to access things they needed to make the apps work! Frickin Sprint has been screwing people for a loooong time!!! Yet what do I do when its upgrade time? Get the newest POS Maybe next time I will hold out for the release that comes after the "new release" ie, hero/evo Thanks to all the devs who made my and everyones else's hero manageable

Pawned a couple things to buy the Xoom... regret it?/?

so i was finally able to afford the wifi only Xoom, and i knew i wanted it over the ipad. Reason being, I have a HTC Evo and before that i had an HTC Hero.I've rooted them and flashed them with diferent roms, kernels, themes, and all that good stuff that we can do on our "open source" OS that IOS cannot. butttttttttttttt........
after playing with the Xoom for the past 2 days i kind of do not feel satisfied. Main reason for this is the apps.... i love using apps... Android seems to have less than 100 tablet optimized apps and that really sucks for me. its been a month and a half since the release of the xoom.
things making me want to keep it:
-sd card
-very customizible (if thats a word)
-i tethered to evo and it was blazing fast on 3g
-not wanting to be like everyone else that gets an ipad
-eventually i guess.. more free apps
-camera has led flash
-youtube app
etc...
and just because its freekin Android... (gotta love it)
things making me want to get an ipad2:
-currently has more apps
-even though it has lower resolution screen looks better
-faster response when flickin
advice??
ps.
how much longer till we get about 1000 apps?
Serious advice: sell/return it and get the iPad.
Reason for advice: Nevermind that you can use loads of current mobile apps on the Xoom, if what you're looking for is a buttload of tablet apps then an Android tablet is not for you... yet.
the apps will eventually find their way on the xoom and other android tablets. Remember when you first got your Hero how many apps there were? OK there were more than 100 but the number of apps has grown exponentially over the past 2 years as more and more people acquired android smartphones. The same will go for the tablet - and as more and more ppl acquire android tablets the bigger the market for developers and the more apps we will find. Developers will need the honeycomb sdk to optimise their apps for the platform and whenever it gets out to them we will see the number of apps grow exponentially too. It may take another 6 months or so for our favourite android apps to become tablet-optimised.... And what matters to me is not the number of apps but their quality: I don't need 100 fart apps on my tablet and if you look at your smartphone you'd realise you only use a small number of apps (up to 30 maybe?). It is those apps that have to find their way on the tablet platform, I don't care much about the other ones I'll never use. Whenever they do, you'll be far more satisfied with your device. In the end it's all down to us and our commitment to the platform. if there's no market for developers there won't be any quality apps for us to play with.
Or just do what I did and buy a xoom and an iPad 2...
haha
I know I was annoyed that a lot of the non-tablet optimized apps appeared shrunk on the Xoom screen (with the fixed dimensions of a phone); but after downloading Spare Parts and disabling compatibility mode having the apps fill out the entire screen makes these apps look less awkward.
Get the ipad. Android isn't about the apps. Its good because apps aren't needed to make the device functional. Its good because it has a full browser and file system and its good to tinker with. If you simply want apps apps apps then it isn't the platform for you
Wow... i dont want and ipad...but thanks for the encouragement. Lol
Thanks Sejanus for informing me about spare parts... instead of telling me to go buy an Ipad u actually made me love my Xoom even more..
Advantages of having a Xoom are more and better than having an ipad. Like i pointed out in the first post.

Hmmm, you also pointed out in the first post that you were not satisfied with the Xoom because of a lack of apps and that one of the reasons you would like to get an iPad was because it had more apps. I'm not seeing your logic in your second post.
I don't have an agenda with a specific OS, people should get what they like.
Anyway, it's good that you're not going down the route of evil
Here's what android 3.0 aka honeycomb will look like soon

But seriously, I think if you need mega apps right now and you can't wait a few more months for Honeycomb apps to appear return the Xoom and get a ipad 2(or even an ipad if you want to go cheaper route), but if you want more then just apps Xoom is what you should keep. Also remember google apps(ex. maps, navigation, etc) will always be perfected on Android before iOS stuff.
I pawned one of my nuts ... hell, God gave me two!
Can I point out that I'm a developer on the android platform and I'm currently working on a Honeycomb app at home, and once we cover the beaurocracy, our company will be releasing honeycomb / tablet optimised apps too.
Also, these apps can and have at times taken 2+ months to build from the ground up.
Honeycomb is a huge difference from previous versions in terms of the application design and workflow.
You need patience for these things. If you want something quick that's optimised specially I'm sure I can throw a couple of apps together, iamrich or a nice multicolour screen torch, or something in 5 minutes...

[POLL] CM9: Worth it?

Alright, so in the last few days I've been complementing whether or not I should give cm9 another try (I tried it on alpha0, but too buggy). I'm aware of the bugs such as "The ringing of death" and others. Most of you are probably wondering "Why don't I just flash it now and see for myself?" While I am considering that, I'm not one that likes to flash things since it takes me time to get everything set up the way I wanted. I figured this way I'd save some trouble and also give others the chance to see whether or not the majority of users here enjoy it.
I've broken it down into reasons why I do and don't want to flash it.
Reasons why I do:
New apps compatible with ICS
The latest android version (along with its features)
Makes my phone feel new
Reasons why I don't:
Battery life (I just need it to last the day)
Video Playback artifacts (how frequent is this?)
Less features than CM7
So I made a poll to see whether or not I should go through with it, and to help those that are complementing the same thing.
Edit: Just realized in the poll I put "No" for the last answer. Meant to put "Neither" lol.
Honestly this poll is kind of a bash to the devs that put so much time and effort to bringing cm9 to our phone so yes its worth it.

Sorry if that's what it appears, but that wasn't my intention. CM9 is great, I respect the devs, and I can't wait to see its potential. I'm just not sure whether I want to flash it only because of issues ICS (not cm9) has. For example, battery life. Battery life on ICS in general is bad, but my question in that aspect is "HOW bad?". I've seen many mixed results with some awful battery life, some decent, etc. I just want to save people the trouble, and myself, of having to flash a ROM they're not sure is right for them just yet.

I know where you coming from but you need to remember its an alpha and everything isn't suppose to be fully functional yet although most things are. Consider it more like public bug testing. I need full functionality for business everyday so honestly I know not to try these builds during the week when I expect my phones features to be fully operational.

I know and I'm completely aware of what you're saying. I know it's an alpha, and I know there are bugs. I'm just wondering if the majority of users think I should use the alpha as a daily driver or just wait. That's really the issue. Whether I should just wait or not.
Video playback tearing and artifacts in recording can be a pain sometimes. I've noticed in youtube there's barely any tearing in HQ but the same can't be said for the built in video player (even HD videos tear). Call quality has improved with the recent changes but is still far from perfect. Battery life (for me anyway) has been just fine. I hardly ever get the "ring of death" but I've found it's not difficult or impossible to work around without having to reboot. Features are still missing but that will come as cm itself updates for cm9. Peformance and stability (again for me anyway) has been just fine and it seems to handle 3D graphics better than any rom I've ever used. Overall I've been able to deal with it being my daily driver and just waiting for updates. Of course I'm going to hope for certain things to come in due time but I'm overall more satisfied with cm9 than I was with cm7. If there's anything else specific you wanted to know that I didn't cover, ask.

Thanks this is exactly the kind of response I was looking for. I rarely use video recording so that's not an issue for me. The biggest thing was the battery life and I think I've decided to wait until alpha4, because I'll definitely flash when the "Ring of Death" is fixed. I make quite a lot of calls, and even though people rarely get it, I'd rather not have to deal with that. Once again, thanks for your response.
Just a question since I'm curious: What CM features have been implemented so far in CM9?
Pssh if you use an alternative kernel and uv like a son of a ...then battery life is decent, I usually pulled 8 hours with 3 hours of display and 2 hours of music note the screen time on was heavy it would be on 20 or 30 minutes at a time.....
On my 3500 I get 6 and a half display and 13 hours overall.. I did 22 hours with just 6 flat.
Just do it I have cm7 miui and tw nandroids and haven't gone back because I love this ROM so much, there are some tips to get things rolling and so forth... so be prepared to make modifications.
Id be happy to let you know how I have my phone setup to my liking and hopefully make this transition easy for ya

Thanks so much. I guess I'll do it over the weekend (Don't wanna get TOO distracted when I have homework haha). On a normal day, I just keep my phone on airplane mode during school, listen to music for about 2 hours, and then use my phone for half an hour before putting it on its charger when I get home. That usually brings it down to 60-70% depending on what I'm doing. If you have any battery tips, I'd be glad to hear some. (Other than the obvious ones, like lower brightness and stuff). Lastly, what is the "Ring of Death" exactly like? If I were on the phone with someone, would it be so annoying that they would be distracted by it? Just curious.
Edit: Forgot to mention...is restoring apps (and their data) via TB okay to do? I read in the blog that it's not recommended and to have a fresh start, but there's a few games and other apps where I would like to keep my data.
I have used it as a daily rom since alpha 0. On completely stock CM9 and i get 10-15 hours on a OEM battery. I have been blessed and haven't had any video issues ( i take a lot of videos of my 8 month old daughter).
Def. Not up to par with CM7 but with features and battery life but it's only in alpha. I enjoy seeing and appreciating the changes when updates come out. Also saying my Epic has ICS and yours doesn't is fun lol. My co-workers are begging me to completely redo their Epic. (never will happen, none of then know what the term root or odin mean).
Honestly my suggestion flash CM9 with stock kernel and see if you can make it a week or 2. If you can't then see if a 3rd party kernel will please your needs. Then after that if you feel you can't stand the interesting bugs then take the time and go back to CM7.

Honestly, I have never had the "Ring of Death". I haven't had really any bugs on mine. This, in my opinion, is the most stable alpha rom I've ran.
And yes TB works fine. That's how I restore apps w/ data.

Id start just turning off data that will save you a lot and you'll still be able to snext -sneak texting ftw
Don't use any third party apps for "battery saving" they don't work properly and drain more than anything. Keep your running processes low I only have settings and the keyboard running normally when you pull up running processes. Don't sync email manual push for notifications.
Use the dalvik heap tweaks to keep ram available and less battery use, disable touch sounds and lock sounds to keep from audio out from wakelocking. Forgot to mention my screen wasn't at the lowest % it was at least 30 or 40%.

backup ur rom and go for it. battry life on cm7 is not that muchbetter, imho. u could always tweak the settings or even use samurai kernel, and undervolt to maximize battery life. there is also numerous governors with thatand the stock kernel ghat u can playwith. its truly an awesome build. these devs have done some truly amazing work. if ur not convinced, restore ur backup

Ha this thread/poll does not bash devs. They work on CM9 for themselves, the prestige and the challenge of doing it too. They'd just use this as motivation. This is a good question. Anyways - I'm on cm9 now and am enjoying it more than I expected too. Battery life does not seem to last as long but I still get through the day. alpha3 seemed to work out some of the more annoying bugs (for me), like fixing the speakerphone.
Honestly, I'd make a backup in clockwork and then flash. Worst that happens you restore the backup.

Proof that ICS for the ns4g has serious reception issues..

So.. I'm sure some of you have seen me *****ing about my battery life. Well 2 days ago I moved back into my mothers. Where she lives, sprint is pretty weak. So for 3 days I've had basically 0 web access. No 4g at all and 1 bar of 3g. I thought this was normal. I had a job interview today at home depot and couldn't make a phone call for about 2 hours. Or send a message or even get 3g service. So I decided tto flash back to gingerbread tonsee of that helped. It did. I was able to make phone calls and messages and even have 3g service inside the home depot. Which I couldn't do with ICS installed. So unjust thought it was a tower being worked with. I just got home. And to my surprise I have a stable 3g connection. No longer do I have to walk out the door just to have 1 bar of 3g. Im sitting in my living room right now and I'm on Facebook, doing some web browsing and obviously posting on xda which was IMPOSSIBLE last night.
Google, there is something really wrong with ICS. Please.. for the love of god figure out why ICS has bad signal really reception compared to GB.

not sure what the exact background to all of this is, but did your radio change between the two ROMs?
Yes I did. I tried all 4. Switched kernels left and right. Flashed roms left and right and always got the same result. If I hop back on gbread my battery goes 16+ hours with great reception. ICS gives me horrendous battery life.

There is no official release for the ns4g so no google or sprint official cares at this point.

Scheduler set to noop and governer is set to smartassv2. I'm overclocked to 1.2ghz, have no wifi or 4g. My brightness is set to auto. Background data on auto sync off. Running the ke1 radio. No live background. And I also have a few apps frozen for good measure. (Market updater.. etc)
Ill post what I get on gbread. And tomorrow ill flash cm9 with the kl2 radio and ill show you what I'm talking about.
I get the feeling you guys think I'm a fool who just doesn't know how to use his phone. Well, just in case, I do.
Ill report back gents.

I pretty much agree with you, I had serious battery problem with my i9020t with ICS, battery would not last 6hours. Flashed GB and its all good and so much faster.
But either Google or Samsung isn't really prioritizing on these phones, which is sad given its not yet more than 2 years old. I hope this is not the case and they spend time sorting out ICS. So far ICS haven't amaze me in anyways though, I just want a light and fast OS with good battery, GB is doing that right now, not an overly expensive quadcore phone with poorer battery life and only marginally faster.

Haha I'm sorry man lol I didn't mean to say you, but I'm sure at some point some dolt will come in here and call me an idiot and tell me I'm doing something wrong. Sorry it seemed I was implying that. Anyhoo this might be the reason its taking so long for us to get our ota. I don't think half of you will notice it because of your sitting in a position with a good signal your phones wont struggle as much. But to me it "feels" like theres a -10 dbm deficit in signal strenth. Right now I'm at -96dbm and I have 3g access in my living room. Flash ics and the only way ill get an ounce of data is if I step outside. And even then I only get a measly 1x.

I9100XXLPQ (4.0.3) United Kingdom (H3G)

Hmmmmm has anyone loaded and tested ICS for UK three network ? i believe it was released today at 0600am and is available to download from samfirmware, however im unable to log in ?servers full .............
I would be gobsmacked if its the same as the first lpq release (buggy), which I am still using and has given me poor poor poor battery life 1.6 days of light use..... and yes i did a full wipe , ive never used titanium i always start as a completely new setup, rooted and removed bloat.
its crazy how all us peeps on here spend so much time researching upgrading flashing rooting customizing tweaking reinstalling deleting and for what .... because lets face it the bottom line is the galaxy s2 will never have great battery life because 1. its screen size and 2. its battery
All I want from samsung is a minimalistic stable rom with great battery life
I actually cant believe all the blurry videos i've took of my daughter growing up with the galaxy s2 and then ICS comes along and for the most part fixes it ..... its crazy how on earth was the phone first released with such poo video recording well at least its better now

Wait, 1.6 days is considered poor battery life now?
Some people need to wind their neck in and realise advancements in battery tech is slow due to engineers and innovators struggling with the laws of physics, so until we get mini fusion reactors in our smartphones we will have to consider 20-24 hours of normal use before it needs juice the norm. They don't have the luxury of the Ipads size (which is just basically a massive smartphone.) to whack in a massive battery.
Either that or just buy a Nokia 6310.....

LPQ has poor battery life compared to uk generic 2.3.4 ki4 official rom which gave me around 3 days light use with the exact same setup.
I know car batterys are different from phone batterys but the advanced technology is there for both ! it is just slowly trickled out in harmoney with other consumer giants to keep the economy and there bank balance happy. i.e the commercial technology groups said hdtv would be the highest resolution physically possible on a screen yet they have produced 4k tvs ! they have had the affordable technolgy released in the ipad 3 when they released the first ipad ....its all clever marketing slowly trickled out
here is a link to read about car batterys that will run the car without the need of fuel that last longer than the life of the car and that have been patented by the big oil corporations like texaco TO NOT BE COMMERCIALLY RELEASED

I got it running fine after a few issues with not being able to unzip it at first
It's noticeably smoother in general and some live wallpapers run with a better frame rate
Face unlocking works fine too
But God the 3 UK version is full of Bloatware so I may go back to my unbranded GB until they release a 4.0.3 version
I think Samsung are being lazy since this is XX but should be XW for the UK, anyway its a bag of sh1t and should never have been released on Kies, I guess the masses put them under pressure to release "something" and "something" we got.
