i think its not apple to apple comparison.... Samsung you have a bunch of options to present to customer(s) and apple only has 1 phone model.
if you say we sold more than apple than i think you should take in account only one smartphone sale not the entire range.

So it seems bada is still alive. Interesting. Wonder what they have up their sleeves for 3.0. I seriously hope they learned from the mistakes they made with 2.0.
I really dislike Android and WP so I can't help but hope for some other mobile os. I'm trying to be optimistic even over the OpenWebOs beta.

Quick question :
Which Wave do you think would be updated ? Only the Waves from 2011 or also I and II ?
Will be there value pack ?
If not would port could be made for the non updated Waves ? Or at least some tweaks to port some functionality like the Wave 3 lock screen on Wave I and II ?

Honestly I doubt they will give any attention to the Wave 1 and 2. I would say we would be incredibly lucky if we get even a value pack , that would be the best case scenario .
And the wave 3 lock screen has been ported to the wave 1 and 2, I have it on both wave's I own but I don't remember the link.

I think so. Wave 8500/8530 got update from bada 1.0/1.2 to 2.0
now the 8600 is for Tizen on the row

Thank you for using bada bug reporting.
Bug reporting is a 1:1 Q&A service provided by Samsung bada, where questions raised while developing bada applications and using the bada Developer site are registered.
We have decided to stop accepting bug reports effective immediately starting April 9, 2014.
Although bada bug reporting will no longer be available, bada applications will continue sales through Samsung Apps for those who are interested in bada. Thank you very much for those who have used bada bug reporting.

Samsung Mobile UK Froyo end of November

Hi everyone, sorry for not getting this to you sooner. The Android 2.2 software is being fully tested with UK operators and the upgrade will be available in the UK from early November. We expect all operator versions of the software to be fully tested and downloadable by the end of November. Let us know if you have any questions. Many thanks, Samsung.

Hit Twitter about 10 minutes ago too. Pity that so many misunderstood the below statement to mean that we'd have Froyo this week...
In the UK market, we are currently in final stages with our testing to ensure the upgrade is as smooth an experience as possible. Further information in relation to roll-out will be available early next week.

samsung uk message differs from rumours about samsung retweaking Froyo.
if they were retweaking, then samsung uk wouldnt possess Froyo atm to test compatibility with all operators..
In twitter: "The Froyo upgrade will be available in the UK from early November and we expect all operator versions to be available by the end of November."
Operator versions will come later
just out of curiocity, what vendor is good with firmware upgrades?
i have been through pretty much every major mobile phone manufacturer (except apple), and samsung seems to be the best (re unofficial support, leaked releases etc) when it comes to firmware upgrades
is apple so much better?
what is your experience with other vendors?

The "problem" with Android is that development is pretty much out in the open and there are multiple phone manufacturers using the OS. So people know exactly what they are waiting for and if one manufacturer releases their update earlier, the other phone owners get all jumpy
This is not an issue with Apple because no-one really waits for any updates... heh.
PS: Well, the iOS 4.0 'multi-tasking' (ahem) was kind of being eagerly awaited. Still waiting for my iPad update though.

I gave up on HTC some time ago... HTC was A LOT worse. The final "drop" was when they refused to release the 3D drivers and this community ended fixing it for them. I'll never never go back to HTC. The worst support I've ever seen...
Disclaimer: This is based on my experience and a couple of friends which also have the same opinion.
IMO, HTC decline started when they switched to Qualcomm (since htc tytn ii). And yes, HTC support is bad. No more HTC.. and maybe no more Samsung if they will not fix the annoying lags in decent time.
Screw letting operators "tweak" froyo. Orange uk filled the internal memory of the galaxy s with so much undeleatable crap you have no option but to root. Please people just do a registary hack and get normal samsung froyo. I'm in the uk and had a branded orange phone but no more

New Android 2.2 Upgrade Announced for Samsung Galaxy S
Latest Platform upgrade provides enhanced experience on the go
LONDON , UK – October 21, 2010 – Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a leading mobile phone provider, today announces the Android™ 2.2 (Froyo) upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy S, giving users access to new features, enhanced navigation applications and improved, faster performance.
The super-slim Galaxy S is an award winning ultra-lightweight large screen Android smartphone. The Galaxy S features an incredible 4-inch Super AMOLED screen and a super-fast 1 GHz application processor, for an intelligent, immersive and integrated mobile experience. The Samsung Galaxy S has led the Android smartphone market since its UK launch this summer.
The Android 2.2 upgrade enhances the great experience of the Galaxy S, making even more of the processor speed, and the exclusive Super AMOLED screen.
The key benefits include:
Improved browser performance: enhances browsing, navigation and the 'pinch and zoom' feature
Enhanced user interface adding vivid colours and features to the android menu structure
Google Maps with Navigation: A GPS navigation system with voice guidance for a turn-by-turn navigation
Adobe Flash Player 10.1: the latest Flash Player for viewing video content
Enhanced user experience including message editing and the ability to save applications to memory card
Search in-browser: Google™, Translate, Wikipedia, Dictionary
Getting the upgrade
The Android 2.2 upgrade, will be available via Kies, Samsung's in-house software upgrade programme. Samsung has developed a brand new version of Kies which will be issued to make the upgrade experience as smooth as possible. The new version of Kies will be downloadable from www.samsungmobile.co.uk
Samsung will also be publishing video tutorials on how to upgrade, providing a step-by-step guide to the simple download process.
The Android 2.2 software is being fully tested with UK operators and the upgrade will be available in the UK from early November. We expect all operator versions of the software to be fully tested and downloadable by the end of November.
Simon Stanford, Managing Director, Mobile, Samsung UK and Ireland, comments; 'Samsung are committed to providing our customers with the best possible mobile experience, and this upgrade enhances the incredible features of the Galaxy S handset. We also want the upgrade process to be simple and hassle-free for customers, hence the new version of our Kies software and the step-by-step video guides.'
I haven't updated, I thoghut we only had to wait a few more days :/ but using my friends phone found one reason there might be more delays.
You cannot put a UK address into the current official rom (kies hack for nordic release) it only offers a state and zip code field.
and the zip code ONLY accepts numbers only (std zip code format) but in the UK we have post codes instead, using a-z,0-9. So UK users can't actually store any full address in contacts atm.
He never stores addresses so he hadn't noticed this.
well one more week and we shall see, im more than happy to have hands on the UK unbranded froyo edition lol
Jumping reg hacked froyo soon...
From having travelled south korea for a month recently I can tell you the advertising for the galaxy s is HUGE there. Samsung basically owns the country, almost all tv's washing machines and so forth are samsung.
But...There is very little market presence from htc or apple, maybe they dont realise what the western market expects from their phones nowadays?
Then again they are an absolutely massive company...how can they not have solved this by now

Note Not Getting ICS...as fast as hoped

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but I guess they want to make sure it works well on their flagship phone...
Samsung Galaxy Note Update – No Ice Cream Sandwich But Worth It
Want Ice Cream Sandwich on your new Samsung Galaxy Note?
Well your going to have to wait, read on to find out more:
Samsung update Galaxy Note but not with ICS:
With the UK seeing the arrival of a White Galaxy Note today.
Older owners of the Samsung Galaxy Note have been waiting for news about its future upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich, but with the debacle that has ensued for many devices it looks like Samsung are playing it safe with this new update and not giving ICS a chance to cause havoc on more happy new customers.
Firmware update not ICS:
While I can see the disappointment in peoples faces already, all is not lost with this update as it does appear to offer some significant improvements even if it is only a bit of a make-up job, so here is what will be included with the update:
Set brightness levels for browser to save some juice
Improved lockscreen with arrows around the padlock, encouraging you to swipe to unlock.
Preinstalled torch widget that supports three different brightness levels
Keyboard now has five rows with the number row being always visible
New “one hand” mode that shrinks the layout, making it easier to type with one hand only.
Calendar app now supports different date formats
It appears that the update is only for devices that are unlocked and it will be rolling out right about now, with carriers bringing the update to owners at a later date. This will be to ensure that they dont p*** off more people with an unstable update that can and does occur…wise move I say.
Are you wishing that this was more of an Ice Cream Sandwich flavour than a tarted up gingerbread?

Ah ok, since the article was written on the 23rd I took it as the author was saying they (Samsung) had decided for the Note to get ICS outside of the original target of first quarter 12'
its by far too late now, we should have it immediately
Can't wait!
All those features are present on current LA4 Gingerbread ROM.
All those features are not the reason why we want ICS
Q1 means November+December+January in USA.
Samsung is not based on USA so they may mean January+February+March.
I expect a lot more from the ICS ROM than a few new icons and changes on the lock screen. For example corrected color rendering.

In nearly all circumstances, Q1 in the US means January through March. The only exception that I know of offhand is the "fiscal year" (used by businesses for financial reporting) in which Q1 is October through December for whatever reason.
I don't think they're going to let us wait much longer than march.. That'd be a bit dissapointing.
I just wonder if we're getting more specific dates any time soon. As that'd be nice to have, a date to look forward to.. Now it's just wild guessing. Could be tomorrow, could be the end of march..
Yeah I've learnt my lesson. This article is just an opinion piece.
There is no statement from Samsung talking about a new delay. I still expect to see it in the 1at qtr this year (next few months)

Seriously if they don't fix core issues like color rendering with ICS, I am switching to Galaxy Nexus.
I knew that I will have to deal with Touchwiz, the bloatware and slow updates, but I never expected issues like this to arise when I decided to get the note.
Is there a problem with color rendering? This is the first I heard of this. Is it a wide spread problem? All I hear is how beautiful the screen and colors are.

Where on earth did you hear that!?
The year is divided into 12 months. A quarter of a year means 3 of the 12 months.
If you'd like to know more about counting up to 12 and dividing it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calendar_year
explaining each quarter and their dates.
Here is an extract:
Generally speaking, a calendar year begins on the New Year's Day of the given calendar system and ends on the day before the following New Year's Day. By convention, a calendar year consists of a natural number of days. To reconcile the calendar year with an astronomical cycle (which could not possibly be reckoned in a whole number of days), certain years contain extra days. Through further insertion of non-day units of time, the calendar year can be further synchronized; however, these extra units of time are not considered part of the calendar.
The Gregorian year begins on January 1 and ends on December 31 with a length of 365 days in an ordinary year and 366 days in a leap year giving an average length of 365.2425 days. This is very close to the average length of 76 Islamic calendar years (based on the average time between successive vernal equinoxes, currently 365.2424 days and increasing marginally). Other formula-based calendars can have lengths which are further out of step with the solar cycle, for example, the Julian calendar has an average length of 365.25 days, and the Hebrew calendar has an average length of 365.2468 days.
The astronomer's mean tropical year which is averaged over equinoxes and solstices is currently 365.24219 days, slightly shorter than the average length of the year in most calendars, but the astronomer's value changes over time, so William Herschel's suggested correction to the Gregorian calendar may become unnecessary by the year 4000.
[edit] Quarters
The calendar year can be divided into 4 quarters, often abbreviated Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4:
First quarter: from the beginning of January to the end of March
Second quarter: from the beginning of April to the end of June
Third quarter: from the beginning of July to the end of September
Fourth quarter: from the beginning of October to the end of December

Regardless, I don't mind waiting 2 more months for the update. This phone is fantastic so far just the way it is. If it gets better? Fantastic! hehe. I'd love the new ICS OS. It looks great and it sounds great. But there might be a lot of bugs. 2.3.X has been around for a while and has a lot of bugs solved, ICS is on one device officially (maybe 2?) and 0 for any 3rd party non-google developed devices.
Regardless, bring it on!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxOTtVkFk2E <-- funny video to make you laugh! hehe.
Ahahahah, all bull****.
ICS is coming, just let Samsung release a leak and you'll see.

Galaxy S III First Official Appearance on web! (GT-i9300)

The Galaxy S line was such a hit that Google even gave its latest "Nexus" phone to Samsung. Not just that, the Google even gave up the naming convention it’s been using to date, allowing Samsung’s "Galaxy" branding to come before the Nexus name. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus was born.
But what about Samsung’s bread and butter? What about its own Galaxy S line?
With Mobile World Congress not too far away now it had been expected that we would be seeing some movement from the Koreans, with the show offering a great place to announce a new handset.
That suggestion has been blown out of the water at late, and Samsung’s own executives seem to think that the whole Samsung Galaxy S III thing is under review. That almost confirms there will be no announcement just yet.
It’s entirely possible that Samsung is concerned about a new Galaxy S handset cannibalizing the current Galaxy S sales and is currently mulling over when to bring the highly anticipated handset to market.
All that said, a photo has popped up of what appears to be the Samsung UAE website, with the new handset showing in a drop-down list. The Samsung GT-I9300 as it is expected to be known, is clearly visible in a list that includes all of Samsung’s smartphones. Does that mean someone somewhere at Samsung is being a little coy about release dates, or has someone had a case of the itchy trigger finger and sent a page live that wasn’t ready?

Global pettition for Samsung to release ICS for old models

What I'm thinkin' is - they are so much more interested in sells process or cooperation's with other companies, that they have us - users of "middle, low end" phones somewhere, where even sun don't wants to go to...
but samsung is not the only one who doing this - htc is just the same.
nokia - for example - without any customer surveys mad decision about finishing all of production of "E" (business) series, and created different code names and lover quality products - for example something like asha.
For me - personally - spica was first and last smartfon operated by android - all of this fragmentation is making me sick - samsung is developing 3 models very similar to each others, and then they are lying that every of those three is to slow, to low to soft upgrade. motorola is even better - there's a sub page which is informing every "pre-cunsomer" which model will get upgrade and which will not (wtf? - a care of public relations?).
htc - in 2009 they were developing few new models at one year, now - i don't have any idea how many models and sub models they have made in every three month :-|
apple - i really respect, that all of their product is unix based - but i don't like prices and balls-handling-policies - of using their soft (what i mean: apple - U don't want to users use your system in any way it is possible? start selling only hardware!).
i don't have really believe in all of new techs, so i don't expect miracles, but it's very nice to see, that all around the world - there are peoples/users, who thinks more/less like me
Take care all and stay Mind Clear for or this marketing/sells and public relations brain washing!
Would certainly be good if Samsung could at least release a kernel. The main bits missing are drivers for camera and megnetometer etc so with those we could easily make it work...
Added my name to the petition.
even if every owner of spica signs it .it is very unlikely that samsung will respond.......
just see their premier product two years back galaxy s was denied ics which still has better hardware compared to the current phones running ics.............
the thc desire c which has 90% same specs as explorer has ics........

NEWS: bada will be oficcially discontinued by Samsung

There were rumors for many weeks.
Now it's official...
As The Verge, derStandard.at and badaNIA report, Samsung will officially discontinue bada development.
Hong Won-pyo, the president of Samsung's Media Solutions Center, explained this decision with the aim of providing better services for users.
For that they will bring the experiences of bada development to TIZEN.
He said, bada Apps will work on TIZEN devices, but there will be no Upgrade for Wave devies.
Nothing new. As expected from SAMSUCKERS :good:

Better services?? First, you need to provide services, then you can make it better. Oh well, can't be bothered by it any more.
Seriously, they are giving 1 buggy update in 2 years and saying "decision with the aim of providing better services for users"...
That's the reason why bada is failure..
but who cares???
