AN Apple fansite nonetheless.

Hope this turns out to be true. Ceramic chassis sounds really really nice and very industrial. Maybe they're going for the iPhone 4 look?

I hope they aren't trying to make it look like an iAnything. You think they would stay away from that especially in light of all Apple suing them for everything. Plus I'd love a unique awesome look!

Love exynos, but is this Samsung's first-generation of LTE?

I believe Samsung will be using a sister chip for the LTE, until they can perfect their own integrated solution.

They never did have their own solution - for radios they're using Infineon (now Intel) chips. The GS2 is XMM6260 or something like that, the next gen (not out yet, has LTE) is XMM7060.

Ceramic chassis? No thanks, I actually like plastic. It doesn't break or shatter and is extremely light. Also, I don't see a removable battery or external sd being done with that type of chassis.

Cermamic is incredibly strong and rigid in certain applications. It's used in racing components, as heat shield coatings, reinforments. It's even popular with thw aerospace industry. Very durable...If the S3 goes with a ceramic chasis, I'm sold.

This. Coming from an iPhone 4 makes me appreciate the plastic backing of our phones. Won't chip from the slightest drop like my iPhone did.

Well, I'm leery of 1st-Gen LTE chips. I will not be an early adopter with the sgs3... Especially since Sammy will launch the sgs3+ two weeks later with the "super LTE" chips :-(

More rumors stating the GS3 will be the first phone to run a true 1080p screen beating out even Apple with their Retina screen. Not that you can really tell a difference on such a small device that at most would be used 3 feet away from your face.

Specs are not credible so no need to wish over them
First gen LTE on Exynos is what will make me pass... HSPA is more than fast enough for me and I see many bugs with it (LTE)

This is true but i don't think these things get dropped much . Which even if it could withstand it, I just don't like the fact that most likely with the type of enclosure, it won't have a removable battery cover. Furthermore with the design behaviors currently leaning towards as few buttons and ports as possible, for that clean look, there most likely won't be and external sd card.
Although I'm just griping, I love Samsung phones, and I will most likely still get it if the temptation somehow pries me from my wonderful sgs2

About that replaceable plastic (Sammy) vs unibody (HTC) thing...

First of all I have to say, the Samsung Galaxy S3 looks veeeery good to me.
You want to know why?
1. Unique design, more curvy which definately will give you a better feeling when holding the phone in your hand. Just look at your palm, is it completely flat? I don't think so. Therefore it's easier to hold a curvy S3 in your hand compared to an angular shaped S2. I really think the S3 looks better and gives you more comfort just by seeing the way it's designed.
2. Plastic, it's very sturdy and therefore less damage can happen when it's dropped e.g. to the floor. Drop an iPhone/HTC and get ready to call the service line.
3. Weight, plastic is the way to go if you want a thin and light phone. Some people here sound as if they would like a flipping phone made out of solid osmium (heaviest of all metals)
4. Replaceable components, seriously guys, UNIBODY MY ASS, I want to be able to replace the battery without having to send it to Samsung and wait for the service to fix it. On top of that Unibody doesn't allow you to buy a bigger battery for your phone (though I think the stock 2100 mAh already is good!)
And no SD Card slot like the HTC One X? LOL.
5. Sorry for my english
Those being just some arguments which definately make reasonable why Sammy doesn't choose as same path as HTC/Apple.
Fair points, but I'm still disappointed they went the high gloss route. IMO, if it was matt plastic it would be far more appealing.

It's the same reason why people that own german cars think they have a better quality material eventhough it's the same plastic used in other brands just in different texture
i find it amusing that people think samsung doesnt use metal. the screen is bonded to a cast frame presumably aluminum but maybe magnesium on all the phones i have repaired. remove the battery and scrape the black area underneath with a sharp metal object if you dont believe me. the plastic they use is not only tough and fracture resistant but it's pretty much superficial.
now im sure htc has improved their designs but the evo was toy like in construction. thin cheap plastics and the pcb was a thin single layer design and the copper traces could easily seperate from the board. also the one i repaired had cold solder joints and the spring contacts they used in place or cables were falling off the board.
samsung does things that are frustrating from a development point of view but i never agreed with the quality argument.
well i'm looking forward to the s3 for the audio mostly. but i want to see what challenges the hardware offers aosp development. though i like touch wiz i dont expect samsung to support the device for more than 1 or 2 major updates. i have learned my lesson and will only buy the us version if it is the same hardware profile as the international version. and ill only buy an s3 if the bt and other hardware are aosp friendly.

lol...with such a big battery, the Note will definitely look like a brick which is the perfect term. People were looking in disgust when I used extended batteries in my past phones which made them looked bigger - since then, I had never bought any extended batteries - if I need juice, I take my 2nd stock battery with me.

Q - Whats better than a Gnote?
A- Two Gnotes
I'm feeling it too, especially when I see girls with Note in the street and transport. It seems a lot bigger than mine...
The same thing happens when I look at 27" monitors at a store compared to mine at home haha

I've got XL hands, so when I see girls/guys-with-girly-hands use it... I'm like man that's humongous. Mine never looks large, but it feels large with the TPU case on which I only have for the kickstand.
If Samsung shaved the bezels, made it thinner and added a kickstand... I'd be right at home. And if they trimmed it down a 0.1 inch, then I could do acrobatics on one hand ; )
So do you feel the same when showering at the gym?

same feeling. but then when I see my nepnew's S3, I feel happy n my G.Note becomes bigger.
Lol no you're not alone. I had the same feeling on the tube home last night. I own the Note in white and a commuter opposite me had the Note in black. His looked bigger when I looked at my own but then realised duh same device haha

Galaxy S4 Initial Thoughts

Have to say that very impressed with some of the new features, Samsung have raised the bar yet again, and the super amoled screen at 441 DPI is as good as it gets, unfortunately it doesn't appear the build quality has changed, it might be slimmer but the same plastic build as I mentioned in another post I personally am sick of, if you are paying big money for a phone you really want it to be a premium build like the HTC One, of course I realise what is under the hood hood is more important but i personally am just tired of plasticky build and touchwiz forget about it,Nova Launcher is where it's at IMO., lost faith in Touchwiz a long time ago
To conclude, very impressed with many of the features but it just looks like a slightly larger version of our S3, when released will undoubtedly cost a fortune and no doubt will sell millions but i personally doubt I'll upgrade, I'll hang on another 2 months or so and see what is released , I'd buy the HTC One now if it had an SD slot.

Whats wrong with plastic build, its not like the back cover fall off as you touch it. Would you rather have metal case which will most likely cost more incase of replacement? and wouldnt you put protective case on anyway?
If there is something wrong with s3 or s4, it would be due to firmware/software, not hardware...
There has been SOME issues regarding quality finish on s3 back cover, but that doesnt mean platic build = bad. Also, out of all the s3 sold world wide, how many do you think actually have those defects....

As a materials/metallurgical engineer I have to disagree with your comment. The "softness" of aluminium is exactly what makes it more able to absorb energy. Plastic in car bumpers is more of a cost/weight deal. Anyway, not really related to the S4 just sharing my thoughts!

Not really. While CPU does have 8 cores, only 4 of them can work at the same time. So while gaming what you'll get is more powerful quad-core CPU, otherwise there won't be any difference.

What to check for when getting a new phone

So it looks like I'm getting a galaxy s4 soon. What are some of the issues that people are having with their phones that i should look for when i get my phone. I'm talking about hardware issues such as the colors on the screen, overheating etc.
I got a black S4 where the screen was just pure yellow, not even light yellow in a white background. But if tilted even 45 degrees you could see the actual color. So look into that

for drop protection and moderate style, otterbox commuter beats all the competition.

I agree, I've owned them all... 2 Commuters for the S3, and for the S4 2 Neo Hybrids, and Ultra Thin Air, and a Slim Armor... oh, and 4 or 5 screen protectors...

Best phone I've had!

I recently purchased the Galaxy S5 and I have to say, it's one of the best phones I have had. I am yet to have any problems with it and it's just perfect for my everyday use!
Has anyone else got it? What are your thoughts?
Same here dude! There's so much hate going on about it online but honestly it makes no sense when this is definitely better than other galaxy phones all around and it's just a beautiful device. Just because its made with plastic shouldn't make it "bad". Glad I'm not alone!

Tell me about it. It doesn't deserve this much hate just because of the material it's made of. Why don't people base it off the actual phone and not the material.

Because people are all about looks/aesthetics these days, that's why.... either way I wrap my baby up in a case, so ven if I had an M8 you wouldn't be able to see the "premium, beautiful metal build". FYI I prefer the plastic, doesn't dent or scratch nearly as easy as metal, and less weight, so when/if it does fall, it gets less damage!
my fav was the note 2... but this phone is great the m8 was long for no reason didnt feel good in the hand and was heavy
soon as i got the 5 out the box it felt way better before even turning it on

yep, its great
the hate is all about because samsung is getting complacent and not changing up the phone exterior.....i mean..it essentially looks like a S4
what i don't like about it is that i think samsung is mass producing too quickly and a lot of phones have random issues here and there like scratched bezels, crooked stuff, mushy home buttons, etc...the QA went downhill
I'm happy with it!
I've never had a problem with touchwiz. This one is more user friendly and maybe more designed for the casual user but I do find things easier now.
The battery life is better than my S3 but all phones seem to start out with battery life being good for the first year then it goes down.
I haven't taken many pictures but I'm not real happy with the camera.

really? compared to my old s2, s3, and s4, the low light photos are PHENOMENAL!!
are you turning on the picture stabilization in low light or HDR? that is the key to good low light photos

I actually liked the handling of the S4 (might be one of the few who actually did lol!)
I actually have to, but I agree about the bezel. Even tho I really like the look of the S4's bezel, the one of the S5 is pretty horrible lol. I really dont like it at all. But, that alone wouldn't persuade me from getting it.
I'll also admit that the white one feels extremely slippery on the back. Besides using an OtterBox for work every day, I'm not a huge case guy. Soon as i T home each day, I take the Defender off and slip on the Spigen bumper case that I got. Phone almost slipped outta my hands quite a few times already.
Orhan than that, I got no regrets. Very well rounded device. Surely won me over once again compared to HtC

Ya, the white one comes with a more plasticy back versus black is more rubberized

I don't get how this phone has too big of a bezel. I feel like if it were any smaller id be hitting the screen too much. I'm used to a bezel coming from EVO devices so I may be a bit ignorant about it.

Probably the speed of focusing and taking the picture. Trying to get my kids at doing something funny before they have left the room by the time the picture decides to take. I have stabilization turned off.
Outside it bright conditions it takes right away.

The camera is pretty good for a PHONE. Your expectations might be a little high. I mean its hard to get a pic of my kids playing even with my high end cam so to expect this cam to do it is silly

Yes, I agree. I just generally think people are way too picky nowadays and want perfection when it comes to phones. I'm like you, I prefer plastic.

The fact that it doesn't do simultaneous voice and data definitely makes it NOT the best phone!
