This file makes internal sd appear as external sdcard. With this file you can NOT use external sd. That means that you can ONLY use internal sdcard.
Put it to /system/etc/ and give it following permissions: rw-r--r--

Music Players recognize the music I have in internal memory but I haven't been able to use it again. It would be nice if both internal and external memory were usable.

Works nicely... just had to figure out how to get it to the phone since I don't have an SD! Borrowed and sorted it out.
Thanks!
update to 2.07 rewrites this file. Had to repeat this process

How do you access the contents of your external SD card?

I am trying to figure this out! I have a 32gb microsd card that has movies on it. I plugged it into my computer and just dragged the files over, then inserted the card into the tab. I powered the tab on and I'm using root explorer to search files but none of the files are showing anywhere. When I go into storage it shows the card is there and how much space is used/left but I cannot figure out how to view the files at all.
The card is formatted FAT32 and I'm using a completely stock Iconia a500 16gb

If you're in Root Explorer go all the way to the root folder then from there go to /mnt/external_sd and you should see all the stuff on your card. Hopefully that helps. Not sure why Acer named their internal storage SDCard but it's made it quite annoying.

My self as well.....
However AndSMB allows me to transfer files wirelessly over my LAN to the external and USB if installed, schwwet and free a must have.....
I found it... thought that having one root as sdcard which is really the internal memory and then the actual sdcard under the MNT folder was pretty dumb but what do I know I guess. lol
Thanks!!!
every tablet i've played with has always named the internal memory "sdcard".
i wish they would do the same as archos and mount the external sd card within the sdcard folder, so /mnt/sdcard/sdcard
this way most apps could see it.
For now the easiest solution is to make these folders bookmarks or make the /mnt folder your Home Folder. That way one click will get you to root or to any of the mounted media...
using a file explorer (I woud assume root explorer will work) it's at
/mnt/external_sd
usb is at
/mnt/usb_storage
internal memory for storage is at
/mnt/sdcard

Foldermount, in the app store. Can't remember if I paid for it but I can put anything I want onto the external sd card and "pin" it so it looks like its on internal... Works well with a 64gb sd card...

COuld you tell me a bit more about this app? How to "pin" it?
You open the app, transfer the folder you want transfered to the external sd card and then you pin it using foldermount. It is really quite easy and the app shows you what to do the 1st time....
I've transferred my Android folder with all the appdata and obb files onto the sd card, a lot of the internal folders too. Haven't had any problems BUT I do have a class 10 samsung 64gb sd card....

Yes, apparently when you browse through 'my files" you can see data file in both ext n int sd. But it should be using only ext sd if you have mounted it correctly. Try unmounting the game data, delete the profile from folder mount and remount it. Remember if you have done something wrong and tell. I can help you.

Yeah, i´ve done that several times alredy. Its still using my internal memory. Correct me if i am wrong but if i am downloading something to the source folder that i have pinned it should automatically go to the destination folder and don´t use my internal memory, correct?

When you use folder mount, you are prompted to transfer to destination folder and if u hit yes then it will be transferred. It works perfectly on mine. Maybe u should try formatting the sdcard n try again.

The files are there, there´s nothing wrong with the sd card, but they are also in the internal memory. I wish they weren´t so i could clear some storage in my internal memory. The app prompet me just like you sad but now they are both in the internal memory and in the sd card. I just wanted to use the sd card and not the internal memory.

Then first of all, unmount the game data in folder mount and delete that profile. it will prompt you to tranfer file to source. Hit no ( let it be on extsd). And then see whether the game file is still in the internal sd ? Or else try to mount a new game data present or put some game data on sd and try to mount it and note the amount of free space. after mounting, check the amount of free space. It should be different.

EXACTLY WHICH I FIND BUT DIDNT GET SUCCEED YET:crying:
first of all,
you cant swap internal memory (internal SD) to external sdcard as both Are different...
what you can swap is the /data folder which is THE INTERNAL APP STORAGE PARTITION.
and you may evn move(link) the /system/app folder to sdcard.
but for all this firstly we need
1) mounting script
2) ext3/ext4 modules
3) MOST IMPORTANTLY, a kernel with init.d support.

Use Folder Mount:
1)Download Folder Mount apk
2)Grant the application Root access by Superuser
3)Create the pairs. There is an option for automatically creation of pairs too once we select source folder.
4)Wait during transferring of files to ext SD card.
5)Once done open List of pairs option enable the pair and play the game.
Root access is required.
It works great no lag.I am using transcend 32Gb class 10 memory card.i have total around 18GB games on my phone.
please devs do something for this memory swaps....messed up with this memory prbs..
Any progress?

I've installed a microSD card. How do I move my data from /sdcard?

Previously, because I didn't have an actual microSD card, the system created a /sdcard directory as an emulated, internal SD card. Now that I've installed an actual card, my data in /sdcard is still there. How do I migrate it over to my actual physical card?
Use a file explorer. For example; THIS
I think you're confused. /sdcard is the system storage path for the built in sd memory. It is not an emulated sdcard.
When you add insert a microsd card, it's mounted at /storage/extSdCard .
They are two entirely separate storage locations.

I see. Are the two of them interchangeable then? Is it fine to transfer everything from the internal sd storage to the external actual card?

Not manually, no. some apps allow it others don't. If you want to move apps and data there, the safest method is to go into each app in application manager and click the move to sd buttons.
Also beware that kitkat prevents most 3rd party apps from using the external sd card by default. search for kitkat external sd card write fix to find how to fix this (need to be rooted).

You should only transfer/copy those items, folders, files, videos,
pictures and mp3s which you personally have added or created.
The other files or folders you see in your internal sd storage (sdcard)
were created by the phone and created by certain apps which you
have installed and should not be moved, transfered or deleted.
Good luck!

[SD card problem] External and internal storage

Hello, Now I don't really know what's going on cause i'm going crazy with this phone, eveytime I inserted sd card it asked the partition card and internal sd card and when I chose the external ones I have no idea why it doesn't read my sd card like for example I wanna transfer my file via airdroid or wanna restore an app via Titanium backup or play an NDS game it just read only the internal storage even though it shows on ES file explore (I tried the internal ones and it format my SD card, and S did put all the files back in place but it didn't help, the es file explore in photo was before I put my files back, by the way), my phone just doesn't read my sd card, it's like it just work as a one way storage, when I was using a Sony, this doesn't happens what so ever.
Does anyone knows how to fix this problem of mine, please help me. I took some pictures to make proves :crying::crying:
I'm terribly sorry for my English, English is not my primary language.

In titanium backup, open the preferences menu then choose backup folder location. Choose Storage provider (click to change). Then pick DocumentProvider storage, select the SD card on the left menu then press Select at the bottom right corner
go to settings>>storage>>click on external sdcard>>top corner 3dots>>settings>> format
then move media to sdcard.
Your SD card is showing in the file manager. You've 32gb sd card right? "FD89-1CE6" is your sd card. For titanium backup you need go to TB settings and set the backup directory to SD CARD ( FD89-1CE6)

Does anyone have a solution for that, please let me know.... I think everybody have the same problem though, does anyone know how to fix this solution? :crying::crying:

In Android 6.0, once you format ur external sd card as internal it becomes a part of ur internal memory and functions as internal one(the external SD card won't show up in file managers). Hence the phone decides where your app is installed either the real internal memory or the now formatted SD card working as internal memory.
If you don't format it as internal memory. The apps won't install on external SD card and you can't move the apps to external SD card.

No you can't coz the data on your sd card will be encripted n you won't be able to read it on your computer via card reader. I'd suggest you to keep your sd card as "portable device" if you want to transfer data via card reader.
