Froze blur.res 2.3.6 - Atrix 4G General

I froze this app because I decided I would try freezing some apps and was going by the thread on here that has a big list. When I froze this app my phones email and calendar stopped working. I tried unfreezing it and instead of it going back to the app list it just seemed to disappear, it was no longer in the frozen list or the app list. So I just tried a factory reset and now I can't do anything as the phone I keep getting force closes on Accounts, is there anything I can do?

If you REALLY want to stay blurred, go with a fruitcake:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163009
Otherwise, improve your phone by going with one of the many nice ROMs in the Dev section. Neutrino/Joker's CM9 are my favorites.
And in case you aren't all ROMtastic yet, unlock your bootloader (MAKE SURE THIS IS OK FOR YOUR BLURRED SELF FIRST. I HAVE NOT BEEN KEEPING UP WITH 2.3.6 ISSUES AS I LEFT BLUR A LONG TIME AGO), flash Romracer's most recent recovery, and then flash the CWM zip for whatever ROM you go for.
If you end up bricking yourself, this may or may not be useful:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22583493&postcount=139

well it isn't an issue of a new rom or anything I want, my phone is unusable right now because I froze the blur.res 2.3.6, and with the factory reset I can't do anything because the second it comes on I get force closes on 'Accounts'

And my suggestion is flash a new ROM. If you are concerned about keeping your data, try an adb pull of whatever you want to hang on to.
Oh, and try adb install (ing) the specific apk you froze (grab it from the /system/app under the fruitcake for your ROM).

ohhh haha sorry I misunderstood, but I guess I'll give it a try if it's really all I can do. I'll try to find the apk from the fruitcake rom first though and see if I can do that first, is there any link for how to do an adb install? Thanks!

I just read that people who OTA'd to 2.36 without unlocking earlier have lost the ability to do so. Just regurgitating, again I unlocked forever ago and don't worry about ATT's ball and chain anymore.

Crap, so best option right now would be to unlock the bootloader and load up a custom rom?

No what I read says people on your version (2.36) can't unlock. You should verify this by reading around.

No problem, man. Let the community know how it goes, and for future reference, use the Thanks button (I don't care too much haha). Welcome by the way. A well-asked first post, though it should have been in Q+A

Haha and I will post again with results probably tomorrow

Okay i'm back and very pleased, I unlocked the bootloader with the automatic script tool linked earlier and then used the script for Tenfars recovery in it as well. After that, since I couldn't actually get on the phone to update CWM I just went ahead and tried flashing a ROM. I used Gingermod, I wanted to try Neutrino ROM but I couldn't get to the download links for some reason, anyway Gingermod is now installed (after trying the tegrapart 1100 kernel, I didn't know which one I have so I tried that one after looking at some forums saying most ATT Atrix's are 1100). I had everything backed up with Titanium Backup previously so restoring all my apps was simple, and everything seems good so far thanks again to omni_angel7!

No problem, man. Glad it worked out for you. I'd give neutrino a chance when the links work for you again. Welcome to ROMaholics anonymous! Oh, and to prevent any future error, make sure to get ROMRACER's recovery (recommended) or the most recent CWM. Tenfar's is outdated AFAIK.

Yeah, I heard that as well so I updated CWM with ROM manager. And I found a download for Neutrino so I have it saved on my computer currently, I'm going to wait a few days though and just see how Gingermod goes (since it's smooth and the battery seems good so far)

[SOLVED] Vibrant Root Concerns

Hey there. I rooted my Vibrant successfully, but realized I left some important things out. I used this guide to root my Vibrant: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723479
The problems:
1) I can't nandroid (not that I need to, I only have 4 apps)
2) I would like to install either Miui v4 or CyanogenMod 9 but cannot as my recovery screen does not show me the options to do so (I only get the 4 options you normally would get unrooted, such as "Reinstall Packages"), so I'm stuck with the lame default homescreen.
3) I'm currently on 2.1-update1; should I upgrade to 2.2? If so, must I unroot to upgrade, and then reroot? And if this were the case, how do you unroot, and can I reroot using the same method in the link above?
Also, I was looking at this guide: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Sa...te_Guide#Installing_the_ClockworkMod_Recovery
and noticed the line "This guide assumes the Samsung Vibrant already has Android 2.2 build UVKB5 already installed on it."
Does this mean 2.2 is required to install the CWM Recovery?
Thank you.
I'm not sure how you don't have CWM recovery if you followed the guide as it is written. Maybe its because the 2.1 is updated? I would do the following and see if that's all it takes. You definitely don't want to update to stock 2.2 via Kies or anything of that nature.
Worst case scenario, we can have you Odin back to stock JFD. You'll be smooth sailing from there.
Search the forums and find the update.zip for CWM for our Vibrant.
Put that on the lowest level of your INTERNAL storage. Not your microsd card. For example f:\update.zip
Now go to your boring 4 option stock recovery and select reinstall packages. It will reboot to the same boring screen. Select reinstall packages again, and it will reboot into Clockwork Mod Recovery.
Let me know if that does anything for you. Also what version of stock recovery do you have?

Can pull that directly from my signature, if OP wants. (Only works on Eclair [JFD] build btw)
Also OP, You will have to have a ROM that you are going to want to flash saved on your Internal SD card. Jsut download it, put in a folder and follow the ROM OP's instructions. Since you are fresh and new, I would NOT suggest flashing anything of ICS or JB until you get the hang of things first.
Read, read and then read somemore. When it comes time to flash ICS or beyond, there is a guide in my signature. Good luck and make sure to hit Toast's "Thanks" button. He is a good asset to have around here.
Wow! I was hesitant to even check today, let it alone this early! Did not think that I would have two very useful replies waiting for me. Thanks guys, much appreciated!
I'll try the Odin thing out first before I even try to flash (you need root first before flashing, I'm assuming). Just out of curiosity, what is JFD and Odin? I'm still gonna try it out using the guides found here, but just curious.
EDIT: Damn, it worked like a charm! Now I have CWM. The mistake I made was that I only installed the Superuser/ROOT and not both. Gonna play with it for a bit now

[Q] DROID 2 will not boot... really have tried everything...

Hello, all. I am new and am here for one reason today.
Recently, my dad got a new phone and said that I could mess around with his old Droid 2. I decided to root and try and install CM9 on it to get Android 4. That failed, and I was stuck with a bricked phone.
Basically, I was able to successfully root it, but when it came to install CM and its package of Google apps, the phone would not boot past the "M" logo. Here is the site I used mainly to guide me... (website prevents me from posting this link but I will soon update)
Maybe this site is what led me wrong. The downloads of CM9, the Recovery Bootstrap thingy, and the Google apps came from separate sites each... I think maybe they may've been incompatible with each other.
I did what was logical. I removed the battery, tried to power it on again, maybe even somehow boot into ClockworkMod recovery and not have to start over. Sadly this did not work.
Then, I decided to do a bit of research... I then tried to wipe the phone and reboot. Fail.
I finally came across this video which I resorted to... (website prevents me from posting this link but I will soon update)
I would have to unbrick it... a long tedious process, then start from square one... with not guarantee that it'll even work again.
Through this video, I ran into my final problem... it seems my phone won't even load the Bootloader! Every single time I try, it says "Battery Low...Cannot program". It seems there may be a problem with the battery, SINCE I'VE BEEN CHARGING IT FOR 12 HOURS! My theory about this is that it is trying to load CM from my previous attempt, but drains so much battery trying to do so that the battery itself has very little charge. Another note: whenever I plug it in, the phone goes to the "M" logo and freezes. There's no way to completely turn off the thing, except to unplug it and take out the battery. So, I can't even get the bootloader to work in order to unbrick it! That's about as worse it can get.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My question to you guys is... what would you do in my place? I am still intent on getting CM on this device, but I can't even fix my current state!
1) how to fix my current problem?
2) experienced rooters and rom-flashers: how to get CM9 (Android 4) on this device without bricking it again?
--- Note that I am a noob and this is my first time doing such a thing. I need ALL details!
Thank you guys sooo much for your time!

Like I said, I know I can use RSD for a reset, but the thing is the bootloader won't work. The battery is bad, I think, so it ends up saying, "Battery low, Cannot program". Even if I plug it into the computer nothing happens.

Ok. I will see what I can do. I briefly went over that option in your list.. it seems risky. I am not a person that wants to mess with wires and risk explosions. If I buy another battery, will that do the trick? That'd be safer. I'd rather pay that risk that other stuff. Could you provide me a link to a good battery? I know it sounds dumb but I don't want to get the wrong model.
Thanks for all of your help. I think I'll use your guide to root and get CM9 on that phone.
When I do get the battery and am ready to root and flash, do you think you could chat here step by step with me? I don't want to mess this up again, and you seem like the experienced type of person. Online guides don't really have the best step by step guidance, and even videos sometimes don't do the trick. Though, if you are busy but happen to have a link to a good video, could you send it to me? Thanks!

Sorry if that was not clear, I haven't updated that for a while.
Low battery options There are 3 options the first is a warning and not recommended MacGyver Method, 2. is Factory Programming / Fastboot Cable, 3rd is a spare battery charger (with link), and 4th would be borrow a charged battery. A new battery may not be charged enough to flash.

I see, I see. So from what I see here, I should buy the Black Hat thing and the charger and try those options to reset my phone.
I have see a YouTube vid where a guy from RootJunky shows you how to do this, so I will be using that as a guide, unless you recommend another way.
Once I have reset my phone, could you help me root and get ICS on my Droid? I still am intent on getting Android 4 on this phone, now more out of trying to solve the mess I've gotten myself into that actually enjoying the final result. Not that I don't want ICS, but I want to learn how to do this the right way. If there is a good YouTube video about how to get CM9 on the Droid 2 or something similar, could you direct me there? Or, do you just recommend the guide you have?
Thanks again.

Ok. I have successfully rooted my device and have done a nandroid backup.
I am obviously moving on to actually getting a rom on my phone. Before I start, I have a few questions.
- Is there anything I need to do right now? My current state includes a root and a nandroid backup. What other tweaks do I need to make as of right now>?
- I cannot find a good link to CM9 for Droid 2. Either the site is a virus website or my computer thinks it is. Can you give me a direct link here? In addition, could you provide me with a link to a Gapps link as well? I saw a few links in the guide and heard from RootJunky that Gapps should be installed with any ICS build, but I can never find a page where both are listed and are confirmed to be compatible. Last time, I had gotten both from different sites, and I think they were not compatible.
So, here is what I have in mind. Correct me or add to me if I miss something.
1) download the CM9 build from some site onto PC
2) download the Gapps from some site onto PC
3) attach phone to PC and copy both to a folder on the storage
4) boot into ClockworkMod Recovery and wipe all data
5) in Clockwork also wipe the cache
6) in Clockwork there is some option to "install from SD card". Select that
7) find the CM9 and select that
8) after selecting CM9, also select the Gapps
9) let it run installation process and reboot.
NOTE: the above is almost exactly what I did last time, except I didn't wipe cache and I didn't do a nandroid backup
From the above, do you think I will be successful?

Successful Root and Unlock HTC One M8 with VZW Lollipop

Hey guys,
I have never posted a thread like this so please tell me if I have done anything wrong. I don't have enough time to write a proper guide but if someone wants to they are more then welcome. I take no credit for any of this information, I just took the risk and attempted an M7 root and unlock method on my M8. And it worked! But just a little differently. I followed the steps in this thread but with a few minor changes: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...root-root-method-bl-unlock-5-0-x-ota-t3122099
Okay so basically instead of using the mobile app of Kingroot I used the desktop version and had a much higher success rate. Once I gained temporary root for the first time I ran sunshine and finished all of the compatibility tests. The phone will reboot and you will need to re-root. Once you've gained root again run sunshine. It'll only take a couple of minutes. It may crash. That's fine you should now be unlocked. This is as far as I have gotten do to time constraints and not knowing exactly what recovery to flash. If someone knows please let me know! As stated in the original thread this is super finicky but will work. Just have some patience.
Also, I didn't get official software status. In case that's a problem for anyone.
My Phone:
VZW HTC One M8 running lollipop 5.0.1
Ill try to clean this up when I get home from work but I just wanted it to be out there so everyone knows. I will remove this thread if someone posts a better one. Thanks!

i have the one the ends with 7.0.1 i believe i cannot check right now, i am servicing it because i have to replace the jack and get a new housing which will take a coupe days to ship, i did however get root s off after trying for the longest time. my issue now is whenever i try to boot into the recovery, most of the time it will take me to stock or show the error triaangle which indicates there is none installed which there is (very frustrating) once in a blue moon however i will finally get into twrp and whenever i try to do a backup, it says failed or some kind of error. and EVERYTIME i try to reboot my system it would bootloop into recovery! and when that happens i would be forced to re install a rom and the whole proccess starts again. So i just stuck with the gpe rom basically and i tried to do a backup and the whole recovery issue just pissed me off so i just decided to to my hardware fix by replacing the frame and the headphone-charging port which ended up not being compatable with the verizon model so i had to re order (very frustrating) will probably by the at&t model at some point instead
anyways sorry for being rude earlier and thanks for your patience!
Alright, sorry that I lied about going home and typing up a step by step things are just hectic ya know? Anyways i'm here now so let me gather myself and get you some help. lol

If I remember correctly all I did was go to twrp's website and download the most recent version for the VZW M8 (I think it might have just been one for all versions not sure) then installed it through adb and it has been working flawlessly. I since installed ViperOne without any problems. The version of twrp I got was 2.8.7.0. Once you get your phone going again i'd suggest reinstalling twrp through adb.

As noted by the previous response, you should get the latest version of TWRP (2.8.7.0) if you are on Lollipop firmware. TWRP versions 2.7 are known to be problematic on LP.

You're correct, TWRP for CDMA (Verizon, Sprint) and GSM versions (most other M8 versions) was merged some time ago.

AT&T Samsung Galaxy S7 G930A Root Install Instructions?

If anybody can put up a step-by-step guide, or a video that shows how to properly install it all, I'm sure myself, and much of the community would appreciate it.
Recently, my laptop that I had ADB, and every tool imaginable for Androids, and specifically the Galaxy Series, took a huge dump on me and I lost it all. I installed it so long ago, that embarrassingly I've forgotten how I did it all. If someone could post how they rooted their GS7 (non-edge variant), I would be very appreciative. And I'm sure much of the community would be too. I'm embarrassed to even have to ask as someone who used to formerly develop mods on phones. But it is what it is. It's been so long since I've set it all up, and I've had to do so much since that time that I've simply forgotten how I did it/how to do it. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you ahead of time...
I've tried following the instructions in the sticky above. I ran the 930X ROOT.TAR in the special version of ODIN. And every ran OK. It said "Success" and then rebooted. All seemed well, then it froze on the AT&T Boot Logo. What can I do from here? I know from history that this is one of the points that people panic and claimed "brick" (though I've never seen a real brick from rooting). Any help would be greatly appreciated
There's a great guide in the Verizon forum. Root was universal based on FW. Just make sure you flash the correct 930 or 935 with the modded odin. I recommend you follow the steps to "unroot" for the sake of doing an extremely in depth factory reset. Also make sure you get chain fires latest supersu built for the s7qc.

thank you for that. I'll check it out. Hopefully it'll get me past this bootscreen issue
yup. Great instructions. All set rooted now. Now time to play with xposed and V4A and the like. Yay
OK. Followed the instructions on the Verizon page and used the PrinceComsy version. Stuck at the AT&T logo. How did you go past this step? Should I have used the standard version? thanks

(keep in mind this is only my personal experience...)
but the PrinceComsy version of ODIN was the only one to work for me. How far exactly have you gotten in the process before you got stuck at the logo? You do have ADB installed correctly installed on your PC and turned on on your phone right? and cd-ed the specific "super" folder for the SU adb install, right? FYI: It's not a simple root process, like 1-click roots on previous devices. This is more similar to the in-depth root methods like on the N1 and D1 before super nice devs went out of their way to make it simple. So if you're not familiar with ADB shell and the likes, it'll be difficult for you. But, no matter how high and mighty or condescending people act, we've all had to start somewhere. I'll help you get through the process as much as I can
Thanks for your reply. BTW I am fairly experienced in this stuff. This is what I did to get it to work. ADB and drivers all work fine.
Flashed the boot image using the PrinceComsy version. Got stuck at AT&T logo
Attempted to flash with the other version of Odin. When I open Odin, a window would pop-up with some ini issue and Odin would close immediately.
So I moved the ini file from PrinceComsy version to the other version. At this point, Odin would open and detect the phone at the correct COM port
Tried flashing it with this Odin but I got a SHA256 error
SO..
I went back to stock (which deletes all data, no big deal - everything was backed up)
Boot was successful
Re-flashed with the boot image and viola!

OK. Proceeding with the recommended steps in the install guide, I ran into this one nagging pop-up:
Security notice: Unauthorized actions have been detected. Restart your phone to undo any unauthorized changes.
Its a rather annoying notice that keeps popping up. What is the fix for this? Quick 'google' suggested some people uninstalling Knox altogether and it seemed fairly drastic. Suggestions?

so you got it all figured out and running great now right? No other issues right?
Just to add to this, I have verified that this still works using PG1.

Can you please try restoring to af2?
Thanks for the ping. I think so. One thing I ran into which I don't know if its related to rooting. When I am in a phone conversation, audio on the other end goes in and out after a few minutes into the call. This happens with bluetooth or not. Still figuring out this issue.

Seeing battery drain. So went back to stock /unroot for now.
I was not trying to root my phone but reflash to an earlier version. I tried the Prince version of Odin and it did not work. The version that ended up working is in this thread

ok so...
after the first time around, when it reboots itself, do i put it back in download mode? or just run it again?
Yes after the first time boot back into download mode and run Sugar QCT again, this time with the 2 files replaced
Thank you for the question, I will update the instructions so people know to put it in download mode the second time. I'm at work now and will update that when I'm off
Awesome dude! worked first time unlike the other methods on here. thank you so much

No problem man, I'm glad to hear it worked for you. It originally took me 2 months to get TWRP on my phone using the old way. I tore the whole rom and kernel apart trying to figure out an easier way. Enjoy and if you feel like testing, try my ~CricketRom~

Once you uninstall with Titanium, reboot and popup will be gone
Yeah I got it to work. Have you tried magisk on this? Can seem to get it to install on the build you posted. And if i flash it again with QCT it will unroot?

I haven't tried Magisk because I don't need it. If you want it to work, you will need to install the stock kernel through TWRP. I posted a link in the cricketrom thread for the stock kernel because another person was trying to install Magisk as well.
Yes, if you install again with QCT it will unroot.
SugarQct
Any chance you can upload a link to the newer version of sugarQct? everytime I click for it to update the application, it just says that it isn't responding

I wasn't able to find a legit download link for the newest version, so what I did was copy the files from mine and uploaded it for you. I'm not 100% it'll work but it's worth a try. Just unpack and drop in your tool folder, located in your Sugar QCT install location.

User/Pwd combo no working for Sugar - has this been changed/updated?
Yeah, it's not working. That's not good. I'm going to be pissed and sending some e-mails if I can't get on and flash stock if I need to. I'll search around and see if I can find a working combo. Thanks for the heads up.

I appreciate your hard work with this. Any recommendation on the way to TWRP/Root this the user and pswrd don't work?
Thx
the login info is not working please help me.
Does it work on 6055P too ?
It looks like rooting the Idol 4 is now dead since we have no access to Sugar QCT anymore. So unless you already rooted or have a phone that works with DeckerSU's method, you're SOL
The password isn't working, is there a different one I can try?
There is somebody I know who does have a working Login for sugar. I just recently made contact with said person and am working on getting that login info. I'll update my post when/if that happens
