[A][Tut] How to recover from ICS leak upgrade. - Acer Iconia A500

KJY2010 posted a nice step by step tutorial along with ALL files necessary to recover from the leaked ICS upgrade if anyone is stuck with no answers.
Thread is in A500 & 501 Tutorial forums at androidtabletgeeks.com
Sorry can't link as a n00b to these forums.

Thank you sir.
There are alot of people in the Dev forum stuck with no one giving clear answers, and being a n00b here, I cannot post in that forum!

Hello,
I have tried the above tutorial a few times and am getting stuck at the step you enter the CPUID. Upon entering my ID it comes back and states CPU ID is bad format. I am not including the 0x and just using my serial number. Any ideas? Thank you.

If you wouldn't have closed your original account KJY2010 you wouldn't be noob here.
ATGadmin aka KJY2010 .
Offcorse you gonna deny this but I know better , already got confirmation on that .
Are you gonna link every post you do to AndroidTabletGeeks ?
I've been on your personal ignore list a while I think , not answering e-mail and skype.
Thanks for that , still got to figure out why but hé if that makes you happy !
Have a good one !

I appreciate that you and MD are trying to get your site off the ground, but why not share the information here and include the link to the OP. The picture guide is probably very useful to people and would benefit everyone to have it in both locations.
This looks like you are trying to poach people away. I know that may not be your intent, but the motives could appear suspect to some.
Also, there is a guide, without pictures, over in the developer section - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516012

Not our intent at all.
If you check the "time stamps" on both posts (the one I posted at ATG, as well as the one you posted) you'll see that the post at ATG (not the post I made here) was done hours before the post at XDA.
Having just been through the nightmare involved with having to revert from the ICS leak, finding my way back to a rooted ROM, and finding mostly hostile remarks directed at those that couldn't figure it out for themselves over in the DEV forum, we came up with a very clear, concise, and explicit TUT on how to get back to a rooted ROM, complete with ALL files needed to do so over at ATG.
As far as the "appearance of being suspect" goes, that's one of the reasons we started our own "community", and not just a mere forum.
While we literally just launched the site mere days ago, and don't have many members as of yet, those that have joined have already made remarks attesting to this fact. Most if not all of our members are members of several forums, some including XDA. No reason to "poach", as we're just giving people alternatives to finding information about things that we all share the same passion for..."All things Android Tablet Related".
Just wanted to clear up why, and when this post was made.
ty

Exactly, since we already have on XDA those informations http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516012 , this thread is now closed.

[Q] newb needs help with flashing ics

ok so as the title states im a lil new to this so plz no one freak out on me for posting this.
what i need is a simple step by step on how to backup, flash, load ics (thor i think) on my a501.
any help would be great or if there is this thread already plz link me
or suggestions as to witch rom to load?
ask on his forum.maybe
my best guess would be to fallow the instructions given by the rom developer.
that rom is beta.and has issues.Again you are at the wrong forum to be asking about Non gpl complient software's.

OK, Thor's ICS rom, is on his personal website.
Due to XDA rules and policies, you will find no information on it here at XDA.
And why anybody would want to bring it up, is beyond my comprehension.
You can locate him at Tegraowners.com. And there, you can post all your issues related to his work.
If you wish to discuss his original CWM Recovery, that is ok.
This conversation should be closed. And no, people, you need not to add anything more, because most of you, don't know all the details.
Any further discussion on this topic, may result in the thread being closed.
if you read the question i asked how to root, flash not specific info on thor...
and as my first line i am new and not to get pissy.
so thank you to any one that actually helped or wants to help me

Nobody is getting "pissy", and clearly, you are new, and didn't read the rules.
Considering how Thor, is the only one who has ICS running, and you mentioned it in your OP. That you are trying to get Thor's ICS running.,
Ok, considering you are running Thor's CWM, which I can support.
1. Boot to recovery (hope you know how to do this)
2. Wipe Data
3.Wipe Cache
4. Wipe dalvik
5, Install your rom.zip
Reboot.
If you have issues getting Thor's ICS flashed, you should contact Thor at tegraowners.com
XDA rules prohibit discussing or directly linking to any sites or developers, who use non-compliant code as in accordance with GPL licensing.
So, I am not being "pissy". You failed to understand or most probably, read the rules. I didn't make these rules. But we all have to follow them.
MD
Edit: as an additional note, because you are a 501 user, and I like 501's, I will say, the likely ICS build you want to flash, well, it doesn't support the 501. No camera, and no 3g internal. Ask me how I know. Or you can just flash it, and discover for yourself. But please, do not say, I am pissy, when you didn't understand the rules at xda.
thank you
and i followed with asking other suggestions. i didnt think just mentioning it would be bad as there are other threads that talk about his work

It's ok, and I take no offence.
Thor does great work, this I know.
But, at xda, they have rules, and I am sorry if you got caught in the middle of it, as with most new users.
Sometimes, I can be a little strict.
cool so what exactly did i say wrong? like i said befor i am not the first to talk about him on xda? or about that rom?
You didn't do anything wrong, discussing his work is not against the rules, linking to downloads is. It is just that discussing his work often leads to heated arguments here, so it is often avoided.
lol i didnt link anything........im confused... one guy says im breaking rules and wants to close this thead. you say i didnt?
i was under the impression that this site is here for people to ask questions. that is all i did

Exactly. Sorry if I sounded "pissy". Just tired of putting out fires
We know now, that you have no idea about the prior history.
Ok, no problem. You didn't know. My fault for being so rude, but you have to understand, when you mention Thor, or his code, some holy crusaders will come with crosses thumping. And believe me, they are much worse than me.
I won't tell the "real" story. Most people don't know. They only know a couple of things.
Rule number 1. Discussing Thor CWM version 3x is ok. It's GPL compliant.
Rule number 2. Do not post links to his site or code containing his kernel.
Rule number 3. Try not to discuss his Roms, or anything associated with them. He has his own website at tegraowners. And doing so, will bring the "crusaders", and cause another mess.
Like I said, long story
that is all good, but you guys need to remember that this site is open to anyone that wants to use it, and alot of people like myself have no idea what CWM version 3x is ok. It's GPL compliant or code containing his kernel. even means!!!
and that is why i came here to learn what i can do with my new toy.
i am respectfull of any requests made of me. but i believe in free speech and didnt really like when somone says-
"because most of you, don't know all the details" is not a good reason to not talk about something.
Well, I have tried to be as nice as can be.
Or we can make the mods step in and explain.
Here's the deal, and remember, I am putting this as nice as I can, so as to not step on toes. But, it seems a general explanation is not suffice. Or maybe you don't like russians.
Thor is a developer. A really good one. Because somebody used his code a year ago, and didn't give credit, a big scandal arose. Near before that time, Thor released the CWM recovery version 3x. What you find in Acer Recovery which you got from the market.
GPL licensing, as is recognized, states that all modifications to the "kernel", must be available to all, and that all said source code, must be released and open.
The original CWM Recovery is within this parameter.
Because of the scandal later, Thor decided to not release his source code for kernels. This created a conflict. Because of XDA rules on GPL compliance, Thor left, and created his own website.
Since then, XDA has a rule. You can not post links to any code containing Thor's Kernel. Nor should you discuss any issues concerning any of thor's code that contains his kernels. This includes 3.2, 3.2.1, and ICS roms.
Discussion of any of his products, eventually leads to some horrible posts. I am only trying to avoid this. Not to give you a hard time.
Fortunately, most of the mess has been cleaned up from the last escapade.
I'm really sorry if you felt I was being an ass. But now you know the story, and I hope you understand.
Free speech is ok, but here at XDA, there are some ... rules.
first i like Russians just fine. ( i just played against your paralympic sledge hockey team last week here in canada)
second that is fine with me, i completely understand if there was a conflict between a developer and xda.
i was never trying to fan the flames just trying to figure out what went wrong....
fyi- next time all you need to say is xda and thor dont see eye to eye, and i would have left it there.
thank you for the info.
any way back to the job at hand...
im running 3.2 and i understand i need to revert back to 3.0 to root... i downloaded the file i need as per the tutorial im following...
however they have you boot your device holding the power and vol. down button and a boot screen apears, this dose not happen on my device??? what am i doing wrong?
No problem. Man, if you could witness the stuff I see here, was just trying to stop something, before it started.

Well, I finding a bit difficult to understand your thread...I don’t see point of unlocking the Dev area unless you are in the field. As far as I am concern the dev area will not give me much, especially with the silly questions I am still to ask.
"...to test qualifications..." what is the point? Many like me turn to XDA to find an answer to a problem and likely will to have the knowledge to stand an examination.
To finalize, my idea with the thread was to provide some information, there are plenty of people going under with their phones due to stupid mistakes.
People stuffing the forum with “spam” threads should check themselves, do a full wipe and then reboot…if you know what I mean.

This is what really happened:
I registered [because i wanted to thank a post]. I logged in (after email confirmation) and searched for the thank button, but couldn't find it. So i went to google picture search, typed in "xda thank button" (there is always at least one person making a screenshot and a arrow on it) and found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1590190
and on page 2:
It works now - seems that one at least needs one post before "Thanks" is unlocked.
So...nothing for quiet readers like me

Why should I have made a new topic about it?
I usually search first at google, than xda (because of localisation) and when I still haven't found an answer there have already 3 hours passed and I might really have a problem/question noone else ever had before.
Forums are no chat. Every Question and their answers will be saved. Asking a question again and waiting for answers takes usually much longer than just google it.

If you have these same questions for the awesome developers in this sub forum please speak up because it would seem that some still hold childish vendettas against me despite me being thanked plenty of times for helping people around here and being a long time member of this community.

I just see a lot of people bricking their phones right now and not enough information out there so I'd like to perhaps help other people while helping myself as well by getting this information before moving forward with trying my hands at this.

I debated not answering this post for two reasons:
(1) I count at least 3 separate identical posts from you in multiple forums and threads. Stop it. That's called spamming or cross-posting. It's unacceptable behavior.
(2) Just about 8 or 10 posts down from this one there is a thread that covers this exact issue, check out what it's title is:
Needing help with Safestrap Recovery, Will not boot to recovery
What you need help with apparently, is searching
Safestrap 3.75 was built for KK (KitKat) ROMs - Android 4.4.x
By your own words, you have Jasmine 5.0 installed, which is based off of OB6 - Lollipop 5.0
SImply put, Safestrap has never worked on Lollipop ROMs and never will. The developer moved on.
.
First off, I was not trying to spam or cross-post or conduct myself with unacceptable behavior. Secondly, I appreciate all the help and advice that I receive . What I don't appreciate is unwarranted criticism. I was only trying to find an answer to my problem, and if I can help someone else , I will do so. Again I appreciate all the help and advice that I receive. I hope that I was NOT spamming or cross-posting or conducting unacceptable behavior. I apologize to all if I was offensive.

The forum rules are right up there at the top of the list of threads. Here's some excerpts from those rules, which are pretty much the same in almost every forum:
1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting or creating a new thread. Whether you have a question or just something new to share, it's very likely that someone has already asked that question or shared that news.
5. Create a thread or post a message only once.
As a large forum, we don't need unnecessary clutter. You're free to edit your message as you like, so if you do not receive an answer, revisit your message and see if you can describe your problem better. Not everyone is online at the same time so it might take a while before you receive an answer.

Imagine what a horrible mess this place would be if everyone posted identical copies of their messages 3 or 4 times in separate places. Most messages would be orphans with no responses, and interesting topics with many responders would be split into 4 unrelated conversations with many people repeating the same information with different chronologies, and largely being unaware of contributions of others. That is why it is frowned upon.

And yet you did. See forum rule #5
OK, you are welcome. I answered your question, did I not?
Asking you to follow the rules requested by the moderators and followed largely by everyone is not unwarranted criticism. It's asking you to follow the rules.
Posting the identical message multiple times doesn't help anyone. It merely makes the life of other people worse when they actually follow the rules and try searching for something.
You're welcome.
Spamming or Cross-posting have an extremely simple definition: posting exact duplicates of the same message in multiple forums and multiple threads. Hope has nothing to do with it.
I can't speak for all; but for me - apology accepted. Go and cross-post no more.
The forum rules are right up there at the top of the list of threads. Here's some excerpts from those rules, which are pretty much the same in almost every forum:

You can NOT downgrade from 5.0 to NC2

Being whiny won't make others jump to pitch in and help you any further with your problem. Nobody is asking you to be perfect, but to read and do a little research and not cross post. The answers to your questions are covered here very thoroughly.

Rooting for the First Time (z981)

Pretty tired of my stock z981. I've been looking into rooting my device. I've found threads. But they point me into too many directions. Also, just to clarify, I would be rooting for the first time.
I found this thread, which has the steps.
androidforums.com/threads/new-root-method-for-z981-zmax-pro.1284305/#post-7792976
(I was going to join the discord posted in the thread, but the link/invite is expired. :| )
I need someone to walk me through the process at an elementary level, since I'm new to all this. Plus, I don't want to be to hasty and end up obliterating my phone.
I managed to turn on usb debugging. But that's as far as I got..
Seems no one answers this particular forum. My post has 33 views and not
one answer .
Sorry I couldn't be of any help, GLTY.

Use this link:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/zte-zmax/how-to/zmax-pro-free-twrp-root-method-t3767821
and go to page 7 or 8 where PowerUser64 gives a link to an excellent resource.
That should give you root access
