Can't tether after ICS then factory reset - Eee Pad Transformer General

I'm not rooted and updated to ICS this morning. Brought my transformer to work with me since I was excited and was tethering to my phone via ad-hoc fine. I then decided to do a factory reset to clear up the tablet and do some optimization. Next thing you know I can no longer tether to my phone so now I'm stuck without wifi.
My tether network shows up in the available wifi list but when I try to connect it just saves the network but not connect. Does anyone have suggestions on how to fix this?

There is no reason that a factory reset would block it from being able to connect to a ad hoc network. The only thing that I can think of is that you typed the password wrong but like I said there is no reason it shouldn't work.

I didn't set any encryption on the tether network, it's the only way I was able to get tethering working previously.

Interesting, maybe reboot your phone? Like I said, I really don't think a factory restore could do anything that would prevent this from happening.

I was worried about the tethering. The Prime guys lost it with ics and had to root to get it back.

Yes, I have tried restarting my phone a few times. I was originally using android-wifi-tether 3.1b11 but have also tried barnacle tether, both have the same results. I'm attempting another reset on the transformer now in case I screwed something up on setup. I backed up all my apps before resetting the first time so at least I can install them, but no network access.

Asus had previously fixed ad-hoc in the August OTA, but it looks like the new ICS OTA doesn't have that fix anymore. So, you might try bluetooth pan networking instead. I don't think any amount of factory resets will get your ad-hoc wifi back without actually reverting to a pre ICS install.

I was able to find a wifi tether profile that allowed me to put my phone into AP mode so it's now working without ad-hoc. Thanks for trying to help

Dude, PdaNet has a (new) version for ICS for free. It does bluetooth and more. You might want to check out.

Just fired up wireless tether, connected to it and browsed the web with no problems.

What did you end up using? The same exact thing happened to me.

I came from Revolver. After the ICS update my tether had no issues. I use the app WiFi Tether.
The only thing I noticed is that ICS does not gracefully disconnect after I shut tether off. In fact, the wireless rings for signal indicator grey out but are all still present. After a while, I turned the tether app back on and had to dicsonnect/reconnect wifi on the tab. There was a message like something about "continued poor signal". After the standard off/on of wifi all was good.

Thanks, thats what I was using but I had a really old version. I guess I should update my apps more.

[Q] Is there a tethering expert around?

I just took the plunge in to sd android on my TMOUSA HTC HD2.
I am using AmeriCanAndroid all stock HD2.
Previously I was able to tether to a vista laptop with wm6.5 fine. I am trying to use the wifi tether on the the android side now.
My goal is to tether to a unrooted Acer A500 Iconia. I am not sure if it is possible. I have read a ton and can't seem to find a clear answer to this problem. Several people talk about rooting the A500 so it can see a ad-hoc wifi tether. Unless I misunderstood I also read that a rooted android phone could be a real wifi hotspot not just an ad-hoc connection. I am not sure if I am mistaken or not. If someone could clear this up it would be great.
I am not sure if I am doing the tethering correctly on android. I setup the tethering with a SSID, encryption and the like. the A500 sees the wifi SSID but can't seem to obtain a IP address.
The odd thing is that when I start the wifi tether the yellow wifi icon starts in the top right corner of the phone. Then another wifi looking icon starts next to it. it says tethering and wifi hot spot. I have tried using it also but the system locks and reboots. if I don't mess with the second tethering and wife hotspot it doesn't reboot, but i still can't connect.
The strange thing is that the main tethering lets me setup SSID and the like but the tethering and wife hotspot will let me setup a different SSID. I am not sure why they aren't connected.
I thought this all had to do with the unrooted A500 but I tried the same windows laptop that I had tethered to with wm6.5 and it can see the wifi on the phone but can't connect.
Thanks for any ideas.

[Q] Has anyone successfuly gotten their A500 to work with Barnacle?

(Yes, I've searched...)
I see several people "working" in Ad-hoc mode. But none of them actually directly reference Barnacle. I've been messing with theis for over a week, and can't seem to get this figured out, or if it's a lost cause, and I need to get a new phone.
I've got a Sony X10 Mini Pro- infrastructure mode is still a ways off, and I'm running the new Taboonay 3.2 on the Acer. I have Ad-Hoc, I can connect, if I manually specify an IP- DHCP never connects.
There is no surfage, though. I can't even ping the IP of my phone. I show connected, get the up and down arrows, like it's connected, but no throughput.
Has anyone actually gotten this to work? Do you think it's a barnacle problem, or is it something I can tweak in the Acer?
I have the same question. I havent been able to get this to work.
Barnacle worked for me in the past.they did a update then no more worked. I switched to wifi tether.and I think its better.I even donated money to the other.
Sent them several emails with not one single reply.kinda sad but its life.
works for me from myn my samsung intercept.
Question can you connect to your phone using another devive like a laptop?
Does your acer even see the barnacle in the wifi settings?
If not make sure the adhoc patch is installed it think when i went to taboonay i also had to reinstall the patch.
Yes, Barnacle does work with a lappy, and yes, the tab does see the barnacle ad-hoc, it even connects- if given a static IP. Just not able to negotiate a network connection- no ping, destination host unreachable.
Try wifi tether.I had the same issue .wifi tether is faster as well and free also.
My phone is x10 mini running on cyanogenmod 7 2.0.7.
i am using barnacle tether on it and it becomes a ad-hoc hotspot. THe problem is my iconia a500 has issues working with the connection. I can see the hotspot (i have changed the wpa supplicant file to that of xoom available) so i get a *before the name but as soon as i enter the password of wep and click on connect button,it shows connecting and then obtaining ip address and that never stops. on clicking on that it shows that the signal is poor and decibel = -1. What the ****!
Please, can anyone help me out here?

erica_renee,
I am so glad that you posted this. Even happier that I remembered it. Today around 4:30pm my dsl died. Called in and it is something that effects my little area. And of course they are working on it. Funny how the phone still works, but anyway... This was especially annoying because a friend gave to me a HTC Aria with a cracked screen. I'd just repaired it, started rooting it and installing CM7. The timing was typical.
I was using Barnacle to tether my pc, a tablet and another phone. What's worse I am in an AT&T Edge only area. So it was PAINFUL at best. I finally remembered your suggestion, that you mentioned a speed improvement, and also that I had installed WiFiTether after I read that.
Well I ain't gonna lie and say that I was able to browse on one device while I netflix'd on another while downloading on the other... But I can easily be getting something from the market on one of the devices and still manage to browse on my pc. Which is a terrific improvement to what Barnacle was doing for me.
Barnacle was like dial up on a bad day. WiFiTether is easily twice as fast as the old dial up ever was. Maybe more.
So you really saved me from going nuts. Thanks so much! And I'll go ahead and say thanks for my Brother in town. If that hadn't worked I would have been camped out on his lawn modding a phone...

[Q] Can't connect to WiFi Tether

Hey all,
So I've been tethering wifi from my Evo 4G to my A500 for some time now, and only in the past few days has it decided to stop working. I've encountered the bug where it loops trying to obtain an IP address until it gives up (connection disabled). I've tried deleting the dhcpd-wlan0.lease under /data/misc/dhcp, paperclip resets, deleting all remembered connections, creating open and secured connections, and nothing seems to work.
I'm running Taboonay 2.2 on the A500 and Fresh Rom on the Evo. Strange thing is that when I'm home, it connects to my router with no problem, so it's just the tethering that's screwy. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?
In the past this is what I have seen people do (as well as me) with some success.
Attempt to connect to the network, when it fails, forget the network and reboot the tablet. When it reboots, try to add again. If it doesn't work again click to forget the network again and reboot. Sometimes this takes 3 or 4 times to start working again. Maybe this will help maybe not?
Try turning wifi off in settings (uncheck box), wait a sec and then turn it on again.
You have to root your Iconia tablet. Then replace ad-hoc file. This tablet will not tether to ad -hockey networks stock.look for instructions on this forum its all over on how to do this.
This has been answered many times since the day this tablet hit the market.

He has been using it fine, with no issues until now. I use my stock A500 and my G2 to tether all the time.
I had the same problem with my A500 when I first got it, and a Toshiba Thrive when I got that as well. This was my home network though. Resetting the router solved the problem for me. I have had no issues since then.
I figured out what the problem was: the Wifi Tether app is just buggy as hell. For some reason, whenever I switched the tethering on, it also triggered the phone's wifi toggle on, which blocked the tether (I think). Flipz actually unlocked the official hotspot on the Evo 4G because of this, so I've been using that and it works just fine. Thanks for the help, though!

[Q] Upgraded MS2 Froyo to Gingerbread, now Mobile Hotspot doesn't work any more?

Has anyone got Mobile Hotspot to work on their MS2 after the upgrade to Gingerbread?
I've been having problems - Tte MS2 properly assigns an IP address to PCs that try to connect to it over WiFi, but the connection doesn't seem to go past my MS2 to the Internet. Same thing whether USB or WiFi.
I'm on T-mobile on the USA - could that have something to do with it, some kind of authentication is being performed now (that wasn't being performed on Froyo?)
I had this problem too.
Now I use the app "barnacle wifi tether" and it works fine.
I'm from Brazil...
Sent from my MotoA953 using XDA App
Thanks for the suggestion. If I root my phone I'll consider that option. Has anyone found any other fixes? I tried playing with the APN settings as suggested by some online, but it doesn't seem to help.

Usb sharing is f*d up - dnsmasq does not launches properly and phone gives no IP in response to dhcp req from pc. I don't remember, if setting an IP and gw manually solves the problem.
However launching _both_ sharing method at once helped. DHCP worked fine. Maybe launching wifi hotspot alone generates similar problem?
Did a factory reset and now Mobile Hotspot works!
Haven't tried USB tethering yet, will report back when I do.
Great! I also had this problem and this tip helped me.
Mobile Hotspot works but haven't got USB tethering to work properly yet. The computer can get an IP address from the phone, but no connection through to the Internet. This is after the factory reset.
Same with me here.. Already did FR but still no go..
Old thread I know but anyone sorted this yet, as its doing my head in, I even changed to a tethering plan in case i was being blocked.
Barnacle Tether doesn't work either same symptoms also says DHCP:Could not bind to DHCP port Address already in use

Could it be your carrier blocking 3G tethering?
Hi
3G tethering is not blocked by carrier as I am on a tethering plan and have spent a long time on the phone to an Indian call centre to sort it.
But joy of joys after trying everything I could think of including re-flashing and wiping all data etc. I have managed to get it working using wifi tether for root user

Intercept WiFi Tether and WiFi Error

Okay, so i recently rooted my Intercept so i could remove the crapware. I also tried to tether it so i could use my nook tablet everywhere. I tried https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether
this one. and i tried barnacle. I realize now that one problem was that these apps make ad-hoc nets, and some devices don't see them. I didn't get barnacle working, and the other one worked the first time then got errors every time i tried to start it after. Now i've uninstalled those apps and i can't use my wi-fi normally. The check mark is unchecked in the settings and it says Error below it. I click it on and it doesn't work. Help? Any hints? Did i do something stupid?
Mason
Are you using a rooted ROM?
I've had luck on the Intercept using both Wireless Tether for Root Users and Widgetsoid and adding the widget to the screen with the Wifi Tether Icon.
I've always just done the settings changing the SSID to AndroidAP with open/no security. Using these settings I've had no trouble tethering devices from my TF101 to Windows and Ubuntu laptops.
If you are still having issues, drop me a line and I'll walk you through.
Cheers!
