No way, they told me I was the only one who knew ICS was coming out next week! The nerve of them lying to me about....

I work at Samsung, and we are planning to release it at 3 march, because of the launch of the iPad 3. Than there is another reason to buy an iPad . In the meantime; remove the scheduele widget, since I removed it, its as fast as a racing car. Seriously, remove that widget and you are good to go!

Do you mean remove from start screen? Or uninstall it? I love this tablet but the laggyness and constant over-use off ram is killing

The official samsung info on the new android version 4.0 is that it is due for release on the Sg2 tab 10.1 and tab 8.9 and tab plus and tab 7.7 in Q2.
Knowing them it will mean towards the end of Q2 so my best guess would be June from past experience.
I must say im hoping for april myslef but the odds are not good.

Samsung seems to be among the first manufacturers to be ready to roll out Android 4.0 to their smartphones and tablets. It had to happen before the end of March, according to Samsung...

Another news article is suggesting that ICS roll-out for SGS2 phone may happen from 1 March. They also say that a schedule hasn't been announced by Samsung for the tablets. Depending on the release date for Ipad3 and other manufacturer's tabs, commercial pressures may dictate priorities. Let's hope it is soon.

This actually helped a little bit, thanks - the stock launcher is now tolerable to use, but no where near as smooth as on my Galaxy S2. I won't be really satisfied until it is.

Like the other guy asked... You mead just delete (remove) the widget from the home screen?? Not uninstall the app?? right??
And when you'se say 'scheduele' you mean the calendar??
thanks....

For thailand it seems to be march 30th. The original pic has been taken down.

Yeah, I assumed he meant the calendar and just removed the widget from the home screen.
It seems to have helped with smoothness.

Looking forward to an official ICS or better cooked rom because the stock 3.2 laggy to me when I enter from a home screen to apps list or rolling between apps list the screen. The rest is good to me...

ICS can't come soon enough... Honeycomb is pretty crappy really.

I'm looking at getting a Galaxy Tab 7.7, as I'm quite bummed out by the Transformer Prime and the GT 7.7 is much more portable. I was shocked at the Prime's lagginess when I got it, it was still running HC 3.2.
Then the update to ICS came.
I have in the whole 25 years I'm into computers not ONCE seen such a dramatic increase in performance as with the switch from HC to ICS. ICS is not flawless however, probably one of the reasons it takes the manuifacturers forever to port it. And the Prime has it's issues, Asus is testing out like the fifth beta update now and nothing seems to resolve reboot or battery drain or screen flicker issues on some devices.
Hope ICS for the GT 7.7 will be out soon to make my decision.

I dont have any lag or smooth issues with HC, just need to replace TW with a launcher like GO launcher or ADW launcher EX and it works much better.

Galaxy tab 2.3 when?

Hi all!
I am curious about when can we start using our lovely tab with a newer version of android... is there any comments?

Google has scheduled a press conference for some new stuff on Tuesday this week. It's generally expected to be mainly about Chrome, ChromeOS, the Chrome App Store and possibly a Google branded ChromeOS netbook. But who knows, maybe they'll slip some tasty Gingerbread in there too.
You are talking at least March before we see anything official for the Tab. That's just the way the cookie crumbles.

Unless we start seeing some custom roms
If the "Nexus S" really is just a slightly modified Galaxy S, we could be seeing some pretty functional ROM leaks for the SGS and SGT in the coming weeks.
Any way you slice it this time it will be Samsung first to the new OS party, not last like it was with the Galaxy S line.
It might be irrelevant but on the last update for the dolphin hd browser they included a fix for a UI compatibility issue with Android 2.3.

Looks like Google will release 2.3 soon. But Samsung may take its own time to mould it according to galaxy tab.
Ask Mr. Samsung. Could be almost the same time 2.3 is released to AOSP, could be weeks/months later, possibly never given Samsungs past history. I wouldn't expect it any sooner than at least a month after 2.3 is released for the N1 & the Devs as Samsung will need to customise it.

Ics timeframe ?

I checked out one of these today and I think it will be perfect for me until the Asus memo 370 comes along... but I have a galaxy nexus and after using ics I really don't want to go back to hc.
Has anyone read or have samsung announced if/when it will be receiving ics?

do you notice much of a difference between the 2? Still tossing up whether to pull the trigger now or wait (I have the original galaxy tab atm)...

Why would you want a Memo as a replacement for a Tab 7.7? That's a serious downgrade in my book.

downgrade in term of screen maybe, but in term of processing power and gpu, I think tegra 3 still in the leading hand
I'd wait for memo 370t also, but for 250 , I dont think it can do voice call, which would be a big no for me
tab 7.7 launching schedule is Feb 11th so gonna wait till more active development in tab 7.7 while seeing on MWC about ASUS

ICS update.
Love Samsung mobiles but so far their history of devices is abysmal.
Asus Transformer Prime (Tegra3), Previous Transformer (Tegra 2), Motorola Zoom (Tegra2) is already receiving ICS updates but Samsung Tab 10.1 and Tab 8.9 also based on Tegra 2 still no word.
On Exynos some leaks are still rolling out for SGS2. So Note still needs to follow and only then will they look at other tabs. Ridiculous.
On top of that I flashed ICS leak on my SGS and TW dominates ICS so much that it might as well be gingerbread. Basically all thats left of ICS UI is the settings.
SAD SAD SAD.
Best thing we can hope for is a stable Cyanogen 9 rom for tab 7.7
CM9 will be boss on this tab, I'm running the KANG on my Gtab 10.1
Yeah.. I am moving forward not even thinking about the "ICS" update from Samsung. CM9 or a vanilla build of ICS, Id like to get as close to stock Android as possible on this bad boy. It just seems that TouchWiz is a "bottle neck" as the system seems laggy when using the UI. My fingers are crossed. Hell I may even have some funds for donation.

Lag is virtually non-existent on this device honestly. Just replace TouchWiz launcher with ADW EX, and you'll be flying.
Basically, yeah, it's not ICS yet, but honestly, it's not like what we have now is a bad experience by any stretch. It's plenty good, hell it's fantastic, for now, until Samsung or the dev community gets a working ICS build for us.
Replace TouchWiz
Totally agree, although I would also suggest Go Launcher EX. I tried both this weekend and I find Go Launcher EX even more smooth than ADW EX, but both excellent.
Someone posted on here about them playing with the leaked alpha/beta ICS update for the SGSII and they said all that was left of rhe ICS gui was the settings window and that TouchWiz dominated the ROM. That is very disappointing to me, but i mean what did i expect afterall. Ive never bought any other devices but Google Flag Ship devices that run stock android so i guess thats my point of reference.. For me android is about choice.. letting the user CHOOSE what they want, Samsung should build in a toggle to turn off TouchWiz completely if we the user chooses to. I just feel it adds another layer that just steals CPU cycles and doesnt really add any benefit.

Would love to use ADW EX but I cant get rid of black bar on top. The standard transparent bar thats part of stock TW turns into a grey bar and no setting I change can get it transparent again. If you could help me out here I might just run ADW...

It supposedly will have ARM support so there might be a possibility of setting up Android tablets to boot to it, or at least maybe a lite version of it. Dunno if that's a good thing, but having more options generally is preferable.

There's a dev preview of Windows 8 out now. It won't work on ARM devices (nor will it install as a VM on Fusion for Mac), but it gives a good sense of the feature set and UX. It's basically Windows 7 with an embedded tablet mode.

Has the Official Icecream Sandwich rom been previewed yet?

Has anyone here seen a preview of the officiel Samsung icecream sandwich rom for the Galaxy Tab 10.1? Scheduled to be released by end of next month?
Unfortunately no. There's a number of preliminary roms leaked from samsung for the Galaxy II, but so far none was leaked for the GT 10.1. We anxiously wait for a leak, because drivers can be extracted from it and solve the non-working camera problem in recent CM9 builds and other problems as well.
In the meantime, if you want to feel ICS in your GT10.1, I really recommend the CM9 kangs in the dev forum. You'll feel like the tab worth the money after trying it

Whennn ??
I hope as soon as possible. I want a stable ics rom.
Although the Kangs are very very good over honeycomb, battery life in the last few builds has been horrible to say the least. I have been using ROMs from mabalito & pershoot since a month now but both seem to drain the battery pretty quickly even after all the wiping, etc. Even personal hotspot is very dodgy. And WIFI issues are far too many since the last 5-6 builds. It is very irritating to keep checking every morning whether a new ics build with a fix is out or not. I am going back to honeycomb until the samsung leaks start happening.

CanĀ“t wait for samsung ICS, i use AOKP since months and i am very satisfied.
Now i actually use build 28, on the 10.1 TAB and on my Galaxy S Handy,
same look and feel on both devices.
The preview should basically be the same as Galaxy Note 10.1 with touchwiz Icecream Sandwich...coz more or less GTab 10.1 and GNote 10.1 fall in the same category of tablets...but however I prefer a full stock experience of AOSP...Hope touchwiz ICS won't disappoint like the touchwiz HC... ...still looking forward to Jellybean..!!

The S2 came out a while ago and it sold a lot of units so it was always in first place to receive ICS. The Note should be next.
Supposedly the galaxy tab 2 (7 and 10) should be out in the UK by the end of march but I am not sure if they are on sale yet. They are already running 4.0 so I am not sure how hard it is to port that over to the old tabs.

Just curious...why the hurry for ICS? What would it realistically offer beyond the ability to run Chrome (whose feature set is already nearly entirely included in the stock browser)?
I know a lot of people seem to be expecting some sort of outrageous performance increase, but having seen the Gingerbread-to-ICS transition on the Nook Color, I have personally seen no evidence to suggest that ICS will be materially faster than Honeycomb (with the possible exception of slightly less lag in the stock launcher).
Has anyone had a different experience? We can't really compare against the S2 because it never ran HC.

Upgrading from GB to ICS on my S2 made the android experience much better. On GB, touchwiz kept crashing at times and it was annoying and while overall once on 2.3.5 it was more or less stable. But after a slight hiccup with the upgrade (battery drain, some touchwiz crashing), I reset the entire device and from then on ICS has been running quite nicely. The browser is faster, touchwiz is faster and battery life is a lot better than before.
videos of the 7.7 on HC suggest a slightly sluggish UI and sometimes the browser is sluggish according to some sites. I've used a 10.1 and a sony tablet s, and the sony's UI is much smoother.
In videos of the new galaxy tab 2 (both 7 and 10.1) running ICS, things seem a lot smoother, especially the UI. I am hoping that the ICS upgrade on the 7.7 will make it smoother with no jerkiness.

Because HC on the 7.7 sucks. I haven't been so disappointed since going from 2.1 to 2.2 on the old Milestone. ICS is our only hope...unless you don't mind non stock ROM.
I am not looking for any fancy feature. Just the basic with speed.
I don't know what has come to make anyone believe ICS will be faster than HC on the same hardware.

I think it comes from the fact that pretty much every post and hands-on experience with ICS on the same hardware has had very noticeable improvements.
Xoom ICS upgrade. I see a lot of posts about the dramatic improvement in responsiveness. A friend of mine says it's night and day.
Same with the Galaxy S II.
I've seen a noticeable improvement on the Asus Transformer as well.
All this points to improvements on the Tab 7.7 with an ICS upgrade.

Installing an ICS (AOKP) ROM on my 10.1 sped up the interface very noticeably. Aside from the brief blanking during screen rotation, it runs as smooth as an iPad. There are also lots of nice little touches like being able to flick an app closed (like in WebOS) from the open apps pane.
Now, all the clamoring for ICS is kind of silly, and Apple device users look at that as a reason not to bother with Android, but if done right it will be a worthwhile improvement over 3.x.

ICS will never be released for galaxy tab 10.1
I think that ICS will never be released for galaxy tab 10.1. The main difference between galaxy tab 10.1 and galaxy tab 2 10.1 (besides mechanics) is that it works with ICS. If the old tab will have ICS there is no reason to buy tab 2. Since they want to make profits from tab 2 they need to keep older OS on older tablet.

You got to be really clever for this, are you working for samsung's marketing department? That's a real scheme you got there!
In case you didn't get the sarcasm, samsung already announced ICS for the Tab 10.1...stop your nonesence for once...
yea its been confirmed and almost if not already complete for release so how can they not be releasing it?
^Yes....and the most suspicious thing is that there is not a single leak....curious, if I might say...
Sent from my amazing 10.1 galaxy tab

Im not in marketing deparment but im related to android development of tablet and cellular devices. And I strongly beleive that the same ICS version that runs on tab 2 should also fit older tab. So the only reason they delay it or postpone are marketing issues that im not aware of. Also the anouncement is hardly mentioned on the internet and the ICS should have been delivered along time ago.
Have you ever thought why Samsung released ginger breads for Galaxy S on all international versions, while TMobile vibrant version still runs Froyo?
Meh...
If we get a working camera driver out of it, not that big of a deal. We have several ICS options that kick ass and the only thing missing really is working cams
