[Q] Slow/laggy/freezing Dandiest rom - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I apologize if there actually is a thread explaining what I am talking about. But I have searched all over. And I just can not figure it out.
I have the Dandiest ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881937
I am using v4.31.44.12
It's my first rom flash, everything went fine and all.
The problem is that everything goes much too slow. Booting isn't an issue. but Everything regarding apps and calls and such just goes really slow.
When I get called, I can pick up. but I can't hang up because the phone just freezes.
Every app I install (which always takes roughly 3-5 minutes per app, after download) I have to constantly wipe the screen to keep it awake, if the screen sleeps during install, the phone completely freezes and I have to pull out the battery.
I wonder what is causing this, and if anyone has/had this problem before on a different ROM?
I have ext4 on my SD, shared storage or whatever it is called.
I have read some stuff about speeding that up or something, but I don't understand it.
I'm thinking it has to do with that. I installed/done everything following tutorials, so I should've done everything right.

Have you dont the following ? its in his main post . it seems like what you are experiencing is common .
1.. DON'T expect it will work out of box.
2. DON'T expect it will be as light and fast as Gingerbread.
3. DON'T expect that some legacy problem will disappear
4. Reboot your phone at lease twice after flashing or installing, after 1st boot into setting screen, long press the right button to recall the boot menu, reboot. Can not use /Update_DL method to install app before 3rd reboot.
5. For this version, due to the base has been changed throughly, can not use previous data.img or ext4, remove existing data.img and set data_img=1 to let system generate one for you, or set format_ext4=1 to format your ext4 if you are using ext4
6. DON'T set any config for 1st installation except data_img=1(for data.img) or format_ext4=1(for ext4 user). if your have tmous phone, no need the config.txt.
7. For SD or magldr, if 1st installation failed, must delete the system.ext2 file under /Desire_DL to let system convert it again.
8. Use Windows notepad create a file named config.txt, save it under /Desire_DL, only need to put the necessary config inside it, say:
data_img=1

My advice go here http://android.hd2roms.com/ and pick a rom without issues like hyperdroid 5.8.0. Leave ICS alone for a while.
No offence intended to Dandiest but his last post was months ago

Read what I've quoted and follow . Like reboot a couple of times and such things as that . And this is an sd build correct ? From the link provided that's the impression I got .

Oh, I'm sorry. I'm using NAND. I'm using the NAND version of the Dandiest.
Also, I've had this rom for like a month now.

There are plenty of guides out there, get the nand toolkit (it simplifies things a lot, thanks to ksubedi). Read the guides carefully !!
Have a look here...

Best of luck.
By the way have you tried a factory reset.. if you can back up your apps and data this might solve your problem!!

i just got my htc hd2 cause someone stole my old one, on my old one, it was easy 2 put android on the sd, with my new hd2 no rom will work, it loads, but when android turns on it will lag, and apps crash and say force close, and the market wont work, i tried this and mcc's 4.5 and its the same thing happening, what should i do?
Have you tried a full wipe in clockwork and then installed? Do that as your first option and if that doesn't work then Task29, reflash MAGLDR/cLK then clockwork and then your ROM.
im noob, i dunno what clockwork is and how 2 do that? and i never used mgldr/clk on my old hd2, i just did a simple drag and drop onto my sd card, then flashed it, and it always worked fine, now when it works, theres always problems, also, do you know how i can reformat my sd card? ty for help, appriciate it!

If you don't know all that stuff... you should not be trying to root or ROM yet. Go check out T-Macgnolia's post. You shoulld really read up on it before you monkey around with your phone.
Sounds like he's running from the sd card, not NAND. Have you flashed HSPL and radio yet? Please look around the forums. There are some excellent guides to get you started

This will help clarify. Did you load windows first on your old phone before launching android?

yes i launched w.m first on my old phone, and it always worked i would go to clrcad and haret and it always worked just fine, i used americanandroid, but my new phone when i put android folder on my sd card, it boots, but it lags alot, and forces programs to shut down, wifi is slow etc.

Yeah you need to install HSPL and a new radio. Again, there are several guides on how to do this. Search around a bit. One thing though, if it was me, I would just install on NAND and bypass windows altogether. The guide linked above should tell you all about it and how to do it.

+1 I agree with dung and install NAND.
It's this easy...
I thought I'd post here since I'm having a problem with android install and I'm a noob as well (probably more noob than the person posting here). I tried installing nand android on my HD2 and followed the steps exactly. At least I'm pretty sure I did. I installed MAGDLR, then the recovery, and then android. Everything seems fine when booting except it just hangs at the HTC screen. I left it at the HTC screen over night since I heard the first boot would be long. So now I am wondering what are my options. I wanted to install WM again so I can retry the android rom install but since it stuck at the HTC screen, device manager doesn't see it. I didn't brick it did I? Thanks for your help in advance!
I followed this thread.

I got my phone back to factory settings. Can anyone tell me what I did wrong? The instructions seemed pretty simple.

Couple things, did you first install HSPL and radio? Those go on before anything else. Second, how did you install the rom? Through usb or through recovery? Lastly, if you flashed via recovery, how did you transfer the zip to sd card? CWM has been known to corrupt files during transfers. I would recommend using a usb card reader or through magldr's usb mount option.
Actually one last thing. Make sure you have selected the correct recovery size. A ROM requiring 150mb will work on a 400mb partiotion, but not the other way around.

It's actually MAGLDR that corrupts files, not clockwork.
It's most likely that you don't have the right partition size though. You can change the partition by going to your clockwork file on your PC, opening it, then look for a file 'flash.cfg' and right click on it and open it in a text editor, then editing the line "system ya | 150" to whatever the ROM needs. The '150' will most likely be 150, 300 and 400 etc. so just change the numbers and save it.
ok i will try and do nand, what is one of the best nand to use, ty so much for help.
Hmm maybe you're right skelly, not sure. Either way it's best to use a card reader.
Fly, I'm using typhoon cm7 version 3.0.0. I found that it's the best for me

I would have always said one of the CM versions... great ROMs. Finally tried MIUI this week in preperation for putting it on my woman's G2 (always thought it looked like a girly ROM). OMG I'm hooked! I don't think I can ever go back to CM again. It's blown me away.
But you cannot go wrong with the popular CM ROMs. I tried the Sense one also for the eyecandy I love... but none of them ran smoothly for me.

Girlfriends kills android roms everytime!

Dear xda users,
My Girlfriend got a HD2 and I installed Android on it.
She used SD versions but she kills them everytime.
After a month the phone got stock on boot screen.
Then i tried to install NAND Roms but after 2 months of smooth running the same problem again... (example: Coredroid, and sense roms)
I think that the problem is that when the phone freeze she pull the battery out and after a few times the phone won't boot anymore.
Followed all the noob friendly guides.
Followed all the instructions in the post of every rom.
Installed the recommed radio, MAGDLR, CMW, data partions that were in the instructions
Common problem on sense roms?
Should i try to install no sense rom?
(Got experience with Desire HD flashing and Touch pro 2)

Hi,
It could be that with all the battery pulling, that the pins could be bent.
Make sure they are all straight.
Buy her an iphone, then she can't pull the battery! :-D

I don't think it's hardware related.. Because i can boot in the MAGLDR without any problems.. But when i wan't to boot android it hangs on the coredroid boot logo
(This happends with all roms (sense) i tried so far)
Boot into magldr and re run the rom from there, cleare the caches firsr ot course
Then glue the battery in - buy a tazer and promise her a double dose if she pulls the battery again
lol, hahaha

ive seen a few posts where people have struggled with getting past boot logo, think it was fine after using a different partition in recovery but as your device is for the sd build am not quite sure how that works as Ive never had sd android or if having sd requires clockwork mod recovery? if so try different partition as i said earlier if not hang on till someone has the answer

haha great answer, my girlfriend doesn't touch my hd2 or she gets alot more than a double dose with the tazer method, HD2 is not the solution for a women... you take the hd2 of her and buy her a iphone surly they are women material.
Ignore Post
Problems almost always occur after a few weeks or months of use for me, just reflash the ROM, and you'll good to go.
removing the battery is not recommended, it can corrupt files on the sd-card. Try to boot without sd-card and see if it helps. If your ROM does boot, it means the SD card is corrupted, you can try to backup the SD card and restore it after completely wiping the sd-card.
If your rom doesn't boot, than it meant there's something else going on, maybe corrupted flash, so reflash and try again. This will delete all your data, so be careful
if your girlfriend is not an daily flasher also might i suggest using a daf build. All the configuration is done for you. if you are using a sd build from magldr than make sure you change the name of the build than edit the startup txt like this "rel_path=whatever you name the build(example: "rel_path=MIUIROM nand_boot=1") the 1 for magldr 0 for windows 6.5. the reason for me saying this is all android builds create a folder android when they boot up with all your info like data and cache is in there. So its best to separate the two just in case you want to boot up more than two builds from sd.
Same here.
could be a bad block in your NAND memory. you can check this with cLK and fastboot.
see this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13600733&postcount=9
i checked mine and there was a bad block in the userdata. i think that is wy my phone was freezing.
now i have flashed cLK and untill now its working great!

Serial flasher now getting "NAND OPEN KERNEL FAILED"

So - I'm no expert but I've flashed enough Roms in my time and suddenly it's all gone horribly wrong.
I have done
1) Task 29 with 2.15.50.14 - SUCCESS
2) Installed MAGLDR 1.13 - SUCCESS
3) Installed Recovery 3.0.2.6 - SUCCESS
4) Copied ROM to SD card (one that always worked before) - SUCCESS
Now get NAND OPEN KERNEL. I'm stumped. I've checked the recovery has the partitions that the ROM requests and I've checked other SD cards. All format properly.
What to do

People have had the this issue, yes. But no-one that has done everything right. The ROM i am using is a NAND rom that worked before (but I checked with two other ROMS and still have the same problem).
I purposely wrote each step so you can see exactly what I have done. I cannot see what I have done wrong. I am starting to think its a phone hardware issue.

Sorry I may have seemed patronising at the start, having ironically not properly read the OP. In that case you could start over with a task 29 and so on (not really sure as to how to do all of this but it shouldn't be too hard)

Am I all of a sudden doing something wrong?
Try flashing the original wm6.5 rom, if it works then try android afterwards. One possible thing it could be is bad blocks. After you flash the rom BEFORE you reboot, select from advanced options the one that logs your installation, and check it for errors.
One last thing is make sure you cwm sizes are correct.

Thanks - that's an excellent idea (flashing the 6.5 rom) not least because it's the only think I havent tried.
From memory, 6.5 is flashed straight from bootloader with RUU so there I'm not able to get in to advanced options. Or are you saying after flashing 6.5, install MAGLDR, CWM and Android ROM THEN check for bad blocks before booting the new Android Rom??

Flashing 6.5 worked! Android is back
Out of interest how does that correct it!?
It could have been either a faulty cwm flash, corrupted boot partition, or bad blocks. I'm guessing corrupted boot. if it was blocks, widnows wouldn't have flashed right.

I did the following:
Installed HSPL 2.08
Installed MAGLDR
Use the DAF.exe with MAGLDR on the phone
Then I went to AD Recovery and wipe full data and Dalvik
Then I installed ROM via SD card.
I did the following:
Ran task29.exe
Installed Radio Leo 2.15.50.14
Installed MAGLDR
DAF.exe
Then I installed ROM via SD card in CWM.
Im sorry but it sounds right, what you did. all i can advice you to try ist start ALL over, first by rooting (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953)
and then just follow the instructions given on the coredroid download, they are very detailed and unless you miss a step by accident (which was what i did) it should work.
and dont forget to give the first boot some time, it may take up to 15 minutes (sometimes even longer) but dont worry its just the first one!
good luck, and if you try please post the results, hd2 has left me down woth a few rooms a couple of times but in the end it always worked, even if it took many reflashes!!

I installed cyanogenmod 7 and everything was working fine untill I restord all data (for cotacts and apps) using clockworkmode. After data recovery the phone freezes on boot.
Can someone tell me if I did something wrong or a method to get pass the freeze?.

Aarrrgghhh!!

I am ready to throw my HD2 in the bin !
Took the big step to try and flash Android and been running into one brick wall after another. The latest.....
These are the steps I've taken:
Updated Radio to 2.15.50.14
Flashed HSPL 2.08
Flashed Magldr 1.11
USB Flasher option in Magldr and flashed DAF
When I do a long hold on the reset, I see 'NAND Kernal open Failed' error. It then goes into the Magldr options where I'm trying to go into Services->BootSettings->AD SD Dir to run my Data2SD folder from root of the SD card and then go into CWM choosing Boot AD SD but here it freezes at GO GO GO !
Please help - I am losing all faith in doing this :-(
Go to the NRG android build forum and follow the steps he provides. It went really smooth for me. You might have to flash back to stock WINMO first.

Look in the hd2 android development forum for the NRG ROM thread. I'm not sure how to post the link from this software (I'm on my Dell Streak right now). The process is described in the third or fourth post.
You flash back to WINMO by simply flashing a released ROM from the hd2 windows development forum.

Thanks Steve I found the thread eventually and followed it. I get the NRG Energize boot screen but it doesn't go further - feels like its locked in a continual loop cos I have to take the battery out to reset.
I've tried re-flashing it through AD Recovery but still same prob.
Can you explain what this means:
'For the SDEXT version, you need a CWM layout of 5/200/5. If your phone doesn't boot, try a higher than 200 partition.'
What is SDEXT and is there a download link?
Your help appreciated.

'SDEXT' just refers to an EXT 2, 3 or 4 partition on your SD card on which you can store apps. You can partition your SD card from CWM for this, and of course you will also have to flash the correct system partition for the ROM in order for it to work

How long did it stay on the boot screen? Mine took many minutes to boot the first time (it is also somewhat slow to boot even after the ROM is installed).
EDIT: I'd say leave it for 20 minutes. If it doesn't complete, then there is something wrong. Also, start with a full battery.

Glad you answered this, I use NAND and don't worry about it.

WoooHooo It's working !!
I used the Toolkit and (think) did 5/200/5 layout, flashed it and ran the zip with the ROM. Left it for 20-odd minutes and it sprang into life.
Had a quick play and is far smoother than my old crappy WinMo 6.5 but my batteries dying so will have a proper play tomorrow.
Thanks a bunch

Glad you got it working.
Download the Battery Calibration app from the Market and follow the instructions it provides - you need to recalibrate the battery after a flash.
Also, check the settings; I believe the standard settings are for performance rather than energy efficiency.
EDIT: That is for the NRG ROM; I don't know which one you flashed.

Well had a good play with my new NRG Android ROM and love it.
However, I noticed that if I swithch the WiFi off, switch Mobile Network on and try and browse the web it comes up with web page not found errors.
Is there a fix for this or is there some other setting I need to make ?
Dude r u new to android?
Well to get pocket data( mobile data service) u have to set name and apn in wireless settings. Then enable it. Then reboot. The name and apn are carrier specific. So call them to know it.
send from my hd2 @ miui 1.12.2

I think nrg takes care of that with a wizard, but I'm on tmobile, so I really can't speak to other carriers.
