General - Question & Answer section is not a place where everyone can open a new thread with the own question. It is needed to search before, read the sticky threads, read the wikis, read and read once again, and post in an existing thread, if necessary. Repetitive topics will be deleted/closed without previous notice. Topics like 'urgent help' or 'do I brick my phone?' and so will be deleted/closed. Infractions issued to reiterative members. Remember XDA-Developers.com is about development. That includes Q&A section! Thanks for your cooperation. Best regards,

what's this
is this mean that I hava to edit this before I can start a thread?

I know and thanks very much!

thank you

Hello Folks. Love the site, but have a question about the sprint Diamond...

Hello. 2nd post here. Great site you guys have. It's so informative, it's almost overwhelming for the average user / non developer person like myself.
I did read the thread: Sticky: RULES FOR OPENING NEW THREADS - (Your Thread May Be Removed If You Do Not Read This) So, yeah, I get it if you delete this thread. But If you do, at least PM me and answer my question beloe please? Ok?
I have a sprint mogul. All i wanted to do to my phone was to make it look like a Diamond. E.G. today page, windows media player diamond skin, phone dialer keypad, etc.
This forum is so huge, and everything is so very spread around. If there is not one 'master' thread already, how about have a 'master' HTC Diamond thread where all downloads/cabs for the diamond conversion could be stored? Or have a dowload page for this. If there is something like this. I apologize as I looked but did not see. Thus warranting deleting this post. C'mon, can ya make it easy on us? LOL.
Fantastic site, I cant say that enough.
Cheers

that is a link to the questions and answers forum. you should post your question to that forum, as the purpose of that forum to address questions people have. this forum is NOT for posting question threads, as you already have gathered by reading the FAQ. you will likely receive responses if you post in that forum, but your question will be ignored here.
You are in the wrong section of the forum.
Post in that link referred by mienh.
g'luck.

If you have a problem with the forum rules, or have a problem with the senior members suggesting that new members follow forum rules, please take it up with the site administrator. Otherwise feel free to spend your next 4000 posts answering the same redundant questions about subjects whose answers are readily available with a simple search.
The only thing more annoying than new members posting first and not bothering to search, is members whose total posting ( re: helping ) history is 41 posts, making comments when some one whose total posting ( helping ) history is 4200 , suggests to a new member that he follow forum rules.

Android Q&A forum?

Hi everyone
I think we need an android q&a forum to keep this dev forum clean of spam and repetitive questions that are filling this place.
Does any body have an opinion on this?

I believe it does not help too much since too many people can't seem to read/search the forums anyway. And they will keep on asking the same questions anyway, regardless where they are posed. I believe the non-developers should answer the simple questions so the devs can concentrate on their work.
I agree but if a new dev came along and saw the state of this forum i think they would be a put off joining in.
This is why the devs use skype and irc because this place is a mess

if you're talking about a real forum, with different web address, it's a lot of work.
or maybe you are talking about creating a FAQ page:
if you create it here on the forum, only you will be able to edit it.
but instead, maybe you could create a WIKI page on the photon webpage, and refers to it everytime a n00b ask a question ?
http://code.google.com/p/photon-android/w/list
i don't know if you have rights to create wiki page, if you don't, ask me or codiak/tzacapaca/schlund via pm

Thanks for your input, I think a faq thread probably the best way to go, I'll put something together and post it tonight.
I think we need a personal moderator to keep threads clear of spamming.....
+1 for Q&A section,i would like to see this forum the same as HD2 one, with different sections for different OS & stuff, maybe then people won't make mess in dev section
I've sent mod a pm to request a sub-forum if he says no I will post a faq thread here, if he says yes i will post it in q&a

I'm seeing two general sections on main index page but they both link to 'HD MINI General' ????

Just a little help to maybe keeps this place cleaner/spam free

Hi guys,
ok, so, recently i have been browsing round the whole of the X8 forum and i think that we all need a little help.
Ok, so i am going to use bullet point everything that i think needs helping/discussing if you know what i mean .
This is NOT a guide. so here goes:
Thread redirection
So, recently, I have seen alot, and i mean ALOT of threads in the wrong sections.
So i am going to try and help you post in the correct sections
If you have a question, then obviously post it on the Q & A section,
but if you have a general question like this then it should be posted in the general section preferably.
BUT, any question related to ROM's, bugs and that kinda stuff, then post it in the Q&A section.
heres some examples: This thread belongs to the General section because it is not a question about the X8's hardware, or a question about ROM's etc its a question about your opinion (i mean, its a question about someones thoughts, who they think is the best developer, and the thread may be for fun ) and another thread that belongs in the general section is this thread.
However, threads that dont belong in the right sections usally get closed by the moderator.
So if you dont want your thread closed, try and follow the rules, by posting in correct sections.
More examples: this thread is a question about a bug (?) and he asked how to fix it. This is a question, but it was in the general section when it should be in the Q&A, and because of that, it got closed.
Well that about concludes that bullet point any questions? reply to this thread
Making threads that already exist
Yeah, most senior members kinda dread this. Now this problem usally comes from n00bs, but sometimes seniors do it.
Please guys! Use the search button! We cant stress how important this is to you. Plus, if you do keep making threads that already exist, then you have broken the XDA rules!
1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news.

Yeah, sometimes the search button doesn't work and wont come up with what your looking for, but then you have to Google it! Lets not make the same mistake over and over again eh? lets keep the X8 community SPAM free eh No more 'which ROM is best' threads. cheers guys
Are you new? or are you about to leave the community
So, are you a new member to our community? Or are you about to leave our community?
Well, before you go ahead and post a 'good bye thread', take a look at deedii's threads (thanks deedii )
Here are the links:
Deedii's 'Leaving? Post your farewell message here ' thread
Deedii's 'New Member? Introduce Yourself ' thread
thanks guys, thats kept our community alot cleaner
Trolling and/or Spamming
Ok, we all hate being trolled and our boards Spammed don't we?
Now, recently, i have had someone trolling one of my threads (mentioning no names). I didn't like it much. Now, I had a thought about this recently, and after a long time of thinking, i finally though, instead of saying bad things back, try to encourage them not to troll (good idea or not???). We all want trolls to leave, but instead of telling them to leave, try to encourage them to stay, but be a part of the good community. And spamming, try not to spam, dont post unhelpful things etc. thanks guys, hope we have no more spamming or trolling
So thats about it for now, but once i have more idea's of how to maybe improve things ( ) then i will edit this post. Thanks for your co-operation guys, i hope we become a more spam and troll free place
PLEASE NO trolling or spamming, if your gonna post, please post something constructive or/and nice. Maybe more ideas on how to improve

A greeting and a thank-you!

Just wanted to pop in and say g'day, and thanks!
The forums are really helpful (as I found out while lurking) so I decided to sign up and see if I could contribute.
If I'm replying rather copiously, it's because I want to get to 10 posts so I can ask a question in the Dev area
Thanks!

You are not supposed to start a new thread in development unless you are sharing your work. If you have questions, ask in the q&a section. You can still reply to an existing thread in development.

If you wanted to contribute to the forum, you should have thought about making a new thread for this kind of stupidity. Spamming the forum does not contribute in any way.

Hello. Some people on XDA have a rod shoved up somewhere where the sun don't shine. If you have questions about any thread in the dev forum, try a search of that forum, and ask if you don't find the answer. Posting frequently is alright as long as you're contributing on some level, even for the sake of discussion about a relevant topic in that specific thread. Spam is usually a bad idea
Have fun and welcome to xda!
welcome to the party! please do not create a new thread in the dev section if you're not a dev. and your questions can be asked in the Q&A section. before you ask, make sure you use the search tool thoroughly. double posting is not acceptable here, if you want to, and i highly recommend, read this article: http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=263 Have a nice time here in xda!
