Hi!
Every conceivable information can be found in the Android development section for DHD.
There is also a search function at the top of this page.

Hey Mate,
You mentioned saving battery? I tried out Ice Cold Sandwich and seems to have improved the battery greatly, should check it out. Just remember to create a backup and install a camera app from market

im in the same boat .. dont know what to do ..
:/
I was hoping that the thread would help me decide!!
I m gonna flash CM6.1 froyo on HTC will be the same experience but faster. its time for something new
I've already Froyo and do miss CM actually, so I'm going for this one, thats for sure!
why there are no news in cyanogenmod website?
I got the link from cyanogenmod website. It's under the nightlies section. Weird but its there
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
are there release notes?
also wondering if i should flash this or wait for official htc froyo...?
I'm waiting for official froyo but maybe I should try this rom. But I have some questions before
Does it have FM radio? It'll be possible with released sources from HTC?
And wifi hotspot support?
Is root necessary? Can you unroot once the rom is installed? Altought temporary root can be useful (like sudo in linux), being always root is a big security hole. I'm not sure if many people understant what being root means in linux (and android).

Not AP, but Ad-Hoc works using barnacle
Yes, it is.
Rooting is not much more of an issue - you still need to specifically give apps superuser permissions
ok so im downloading 2.05 now. willl update to froyo first.
is rooting froyo easier or will i have to downgrade back to 1.31?
hope visionary+ or Z4root work with froyo. that would be a life saver coz download speeds are slow and expensive in my country :S
Anyone compared performance froyo vs CM6.1?
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
i didn't understand a thing:
flashing this rom, the kernel change? if yes, is OC?

I had the vodafone froyo rom but I flashed CM6.1 as soon as it came out. (used nightlies before)
And CM6.1 is just that bit snappier. If you don't really worry about that split second diffence (but I do) then you should go for Sense (it's nicer )
But I just like a snappy phone (I should have bought the Desire I know )

Lets see how many of the ppl thats updating to froyo now finally will go for CM6.1
Sent from my Legend using XDA App
Yeah, I'm waiting for some feedback. Using MoDaCo's Custom Froyo at the moment. Nothing GREAT, so if CM6.1 is worth it, I will install that.
Let the feedbacks begin!
Just wanted to say that I rooted to Cyanogen before froyo came to the Legend.
All in all I think I prefer it over 2.1 Legend.
It took a few days to get used to and I have missed a few HTC goodies - namely sync and the HTC keyboard (which is suprisingly a mile ahead of the default Android one). But there is a workaround (I've been told) so will give that a try soon.
I'm ever so tempted to give Sense Froyo a go and see what it's like as I don't really have anything to compare it to.
All in all though - I can't really say I've missed Sense too much; I've noticed a few things that stock Android could learn from Sense but on the whole not missed majorly.
If I upgrade to Sense Froyo - can I then root again or am I stuffed?
ta
(oh and rooting was a piece of piss... After I stopped cursing for an hour and realised I needed to downgrade.)

[Q] Is it worth upgrading to 2.2+

Hello, I'm new here and I've had my phone (GT540) for about 9 months now and went from 1.6 to 2.1 via the necessary LG update. I recently rooted my phone to uninstall some annoying system applications. I then thought about upgrading my phone, one friends got a Samsung Galaxy Ace and one has a Samsung Galaxy S II with 2.2 and 2.3, so I was wondering whether to upgrade my phone. The main points I'm thinking of are:
Is it easy to brick your phone ('cos I don't want to)
Is it worth it, 2.3 better than 2.1 or worth sticking with 2.1
I was hoping you guys could help me as you all seem pretty experience. Thanks!

Hello my opinion is if you want performance, stability, and all the options working stay with 2.1 or eather a custom 2.1 modified for better performance , which are quite some out there.
2.3 is faster yes , but still buggy and has cyanogenmod seetings (some like it, others can live without it), 2.2 kind of the same thing but a bit less faster.
Veronica
no skip to 2.3
I've been using cyanogen 7 for a wile now, when I put 2.1 on to test my app it almost made me cry, and I noticed a major speed difference.

I noticed the same thing when i used Mur4ik's CM 7 for GT540 , it was quick , but there are flaws , seriously , who wants flash to run on a small device ? That's gonna chew up batteries quickly .
Simply put , i love the OS , video playback a little flawed though , view 3 or so times of videos and i have to reboot the phone . ( v1.3 )
Thanks for your opinions, I think I'll go to 2.33 but then I heard somewhere you can downgrade it to LG 2.1.

Thanks, I'm now running 2.3 Joestone!
i love cyanogenmod 7 its great but sometime it reboot so, good things have some bugs also ......i think u should try cm7 its great work of developers.
I'll give Cyano 7 a run, but from what I've seen, my ROM will be Joestone's
I don't like the memory problems in the CM7
I tried every version from 1.6 to 2.3.4, (i actually flash my phone once a week), and it's to early to say, but i think Mur4ik's 2.0 M5 is really far better then any else version.
Its really fast, for now no FCs, no unexpected shut downs, no lags, and battery is on 60%, and it's 2d3h on battery!

The fix for memory problems has been posted in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1104399
CM7 is pretty slick and cool but I still prefer the stock looks over CM7. I really wish someone would put together a MoDaCo custom ROM style 2.2/2.3 ROM for GT540.
MoDaCo custom ROM is a ROM that has no visual modifications from stock but has several performance mods and hacks and an optimized kernel.

[Q] Which ROM would you recommend?

Hello,
I am trying to flash a better ROM for my sister's Galaxy 3, currently the one came with the phone is super laggy and slow. I am coming from the X10 Mini Pro forum, and we only have like 3 custom ROM there, but it seems Galaxy 3 have quite a lot more choices...
I am wondering which one is the currently most stable ROM here that have the lag issue fixed? I flash my X10 quite often, but i don't plan on flash and re-flash my sister's phone. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
i would recommend jpm+jit enabled.....
i am cureently using the same....and i am quite happy with it....
I am a advance user, like i said, i flash my X10 pretty much every time the xda developer come out with a hotfix or a newer version of their ROM, the current ROM that i am running on my X10 have stuff like hybrid Foyo/Gingerbread, overclock, undervolt, jit etc. Is not 100% stable, and i need to force close some stuff once in a while, but i have no problem with it.
I don't mind flashing a custom ROM, as long as one of its release is stable (since this will be for my sister's phone, which is a noob).
However, won't the "stock XXJPM or JPN" still have the lag issue though? I thought all the OEM ROM have the lag issue?

hmm... i really tought it was stable... then you can make your own custom rom via Team Lambent Corrosion kitchen and if you want ROM without problems, a "buggless beast" then dont flash any ROMs
I suggest it too, it has Fugumod, the latest firmware and some bug fixes...

Shouldn't you be plugging your own ROM?
That aside, I think stock JPM will do her a treat. Or then deodexed + JIT + Fugutweaks. The camera is an issue pretty much in every rom and it can be avoided by disabling the location stuff. Or it could be someone has a fixed Camera.apk laying around somewhere. If so, let me know, I want it.

no i was thinking that destiny might be the most stable ROM here and thats why i suggested it and as i said EVERY rom has bugs but i tought destiny didnt... and people should just try GreenMods ROM i dont want to say its the best, i know when people test it they will love it i dont have to recommend it

Hum.. i know X10 Mini Pro's ROM has Camera.apk that came with it, and works, but i prefer the Sony Ericsson's SECMCamera.apk instead. So i swapped it out. I wonder if that Camera.apk would work on Galaxy 3...
I think i will try to download and gather up the above mentioned 2 ROMs, and try it out this weekend then...

Install taboony 2.2 rom and richards 3.7 kernel. Look in the development section and youll find both there.
Im pretty sure ive seen the market issue around but i never read up on it, just use the search funtion. But the rom and kernel i suggested is faster than what you currently have.
Try this guy, he seems to update his ROMs. VirtuPicasso is discontinued now, no more updates. So stick with the living guys

Q1 Why and how would I flash custom rom to my a500?
Q2 If I constantly flash rom to my device would it harm my device in any way?

Personally i would recommend the Rooted Stock 3.2. I played with few ROMs. And came to conclusion almost all ROMs have some sort issues. Nothing major just different minor ones.
But that Rooted Stock 3.2 is one of the best so far IMO. No issues with any thing runs smoothly/flawlessly. I am using it with Thor Kernel 3.7.

Dude dont worry about asking nooby question, we were all noob once, hell i still am lol. As long you are being respectful and not bashing on the OS for no reason, no one will mind helping or answering your question. Any way back to your questions
Since you new just a heads up. Dont do OTA 3.2 update, or you will have to downgrade and then Root the device.
A1. I am going to assume you have Rooted Device. Why you flash ROM: Well different ROM comes with different app, and may be some added support to hard wares you want, that your stock dont have. Also they have fix for some problems that the stock has, higher efficiency too may be... you get the point.
How you Flash ROM Video Tutorial to give you general idea: Once you have CWM installed, you just get what ever ROM you like to try, put that in SD card. Go in CWM menu, do the necessary wipes of appropriate section. Then install the ROM from SD.
WHAT EVER ROM YOU DECIDE TO USE, JUST READ EVERY THING CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU DIVE IN IT
As for flashing ROM constantly, it will not harm your device, least not that i am aware off. Just as long as you follow proper instructions. Its just like installing windows on PC over and over...

[Q] Best rom for HTC Magic?

Hello everybody and excuse me for starting a new thread. I would like to know wich is the best custom rom for HTC Magic, a friend of mine gave me his phone to flash a custom rom, he has no idea of flashing roms and he is amazed by my custom roms on Galaxy S. As long as i know the phone is rooted( i verified with Titanium Backup)
and i will follow the steps for flashing something on this device. All i want to know is what should i install for him? I just want something stable. Thank you!
Honestly if you want something stable and good on battery life, stay stock and just theme the stock rom. . . it's less hassle, don't have to worry about flashing radios, spl's, or worrying about a bug .ect .
I've used CM6, and ezGingerbread. . . unfortunately none of these froyo rom's worked for me after the 1st boot so i went back to stock and themed mines .

I've been pretty happy with the DreamTeam Froyo ROM. It's been very stable and in my experience the phone is a bit snappier as compared to the stock (T-Mobile) ROM.
Ion Rom for Magic is perfect. It's the most close to a stock rom, but with better energy behavior.
I've just pull my Magic out of the cupboard to use it during "dangerous" activities (trekking, etc), and I'll give him Ion again.

The most stable rom I've ever used is Froyobylaszlo. I just ext 4 and nothing else and it runs fine.
sionce i had this phone i never wanted to use the stock 1.5,, it's so annoying and very stupid and not supported by most of my apps "skype,viber,nimbuzz,whatsapp..etc" and so i changed to CM6 and it was so stable running it for daily use for about a year!! it's soo stable and powersaving is much pretty oookaay
now i'm using GingerYoshi it is reeeaally awesome and makes everything fast and easy and more stable than CM6 in games but it reboots immedietly if RAM went full it does not manage it well u'll need to use a task manager and close apps frequently..
short words,, i was really happy with my CM6 froyo but now i'm happier with GingerYoshi.. GY here i guess it's sticky up there in development

If you want something stable, you'd probably not feel like trying those mimicking the custom ROM on Galaxy S.
The stablest ROM I tried ever, with New Radio on my 32A device, is FroyoDragon0.7 with custom Froyo themes.
All the APKs you need can be found in the Android Market (Enabler).
It is really worthy of a try.
Totally agree with above post, froyodragon 0.7 is by far the best rom i've come across for this phone, second to that would be bananabread 3.1...very fast roms. no prob;lems so far, currently using froyodragon.
