Yet another Kies update? - Galaxy S II General

Not sure what this is but it is not a full update.
Version still shows as 2.2.0.12014_18

Here is the update message.

Nobody cares!

Whats your point??

You know there was a time when it was pleasant posting and reading on XDA . This seems to be slipping away very quickly into a mire of negative and provocative posts. On top of the intolerance this is making it very unpleasant. But I suppose XDA is so big now it does not need to care.

There no point with some members just keep posting..
Next minute they be wondering why thay cant upgrade or connect LOL..

I was being serious ... What was the point you were making or asking ?

OK to ask or wonder
I installed update, and shortly after yet another update.
I think second update was some additional components regarding Samsung Apps Store, because now I can use the store from Denmark (couldn't before second update).

The point is to discuss the changes every individual notices, also there are many people just waiting for Kies to be usable some day.
When they see these kind of threads they can follow them to see if it's worth installing/updating it again.
I haven't been here for such a long time but I fairly agree with Tehpriest.
Just back off and don't post such bull**** when you aren't interested in properly participating in a thread.

So why did he not lay out why the thread was made and what information he wanted or wanted to provide...
What would make more sense is to have a thread dedicated to kies changelogs ... So ppl could follow and actually gain something ... Why the **** would you want a forum full of threads like this ... And as for backing off?? Wtf... Grow a pair it was hardly upsetting was it

Any moderators watching this threads?

Hello Moderators,
People are posting their roms here which are not doing what they are supposed to do, but the page where one dodwnloads the roms remains the same without any update on what is working and what is not.Can anything be done about it?
lol maybe if they could tell what you were asking.
Edit: I get it.. Are you seriously *****ing bout devs who take there personal time to post ROMs but not always update their main page?
I think he is talking about the WIKI pages and if that is the case then to the OP you need to understand how this works
1. a dev posts a rom they cooked in a new thread
2. it is up to us as a community to update the WIKI not the moderators
if the rom is a popular one then it is going to stay at the top of the treads deal with it.
edit: nope you are right Tipharet I read it worng. rukshmani you need to deal with it and read the treads that these roms have before you flash them anyways becuase if you dont then you end up asking questions that have been asked 200 times before. please stop complaing about these great people taking time from their lives and families to make our experience better.
Well, just read through the posts and you will no what is working or not working. It really is as easy as that.
Updating the first post to a ROM release is the responsibility of the developer of that rom. Not the job of the moderators.
If you think a rom needs to have it's post updated, why don't you PM the developer yourself. If you were instead referring to the sticky-wiki for tracking roms, you aare as free to update/edit that as any one of us are.
Not, trying to sound rude, but it is difficult to understand what EXACTLY it is that you are asking for.

seriously I try not to flame people but apps2sd is a perk on a rom not a requirement! stop trying to get a moderator involved because you dont want to do the work little bit of work that might need to be done to get something to work that YOU want.
if I didnt think it would get me susspended I would pull a page from gbhils book and post a rediculiously inapropriate image to get this thread closed down.
edit: not directed at you gomorrah I forgot that what you quoted doesnt show when I quote you.
Developers cannot sit at their computers 24/7 watching to make sure every developer updates his OP timely... u have to realize two things. One these guys developing roms 99% of them have real world jobs and families which take 99% of their time. Two, this would take time away from the mods real job which is to warn and ban offenders of the forum rules. This is not part of a mod's day to day task. Now if a developer is posting bs roms that r bricking everyones' phones that have downloaded them then yes at that point a mod would have to get involved but that has never happened to my knowledge on this site. Sorry dude but just b/c everyone else on this forum has the same phone as u doesn't mean that it will accept new rom flashes/modifications the same as someone elses. Any slight variance is settings from urs to the next guys could plunder a rom flash attempt. Do ur homework before messing with ur phone. Tons of others have had no problems so obviously they did something right. Most of all every developer always puts " Not responsible for what happens to ur phone by flashing this software" It's completely ur risk.
i see link is not being updated.. and other link is being updated.. two links active and same rom download pages.. Maybe, he clicked one of those that is not being updated and got confused.

My theory still holds I think. People are so desperately wanting 2.1 ( not even really knowing why) and it seems to be making ppl irrational to say the least...lol
Yeah and I was hoping the op wasnt actually *****ing bout what I translated. You would assume that most people know not all devices and software run the same on 100% of devices.

who knows... to a certain degree forums should be a priveledge not a right...
too bad we couldn't create a "pay for membership" forum where all the members control the other members, threads, guidelines, etc.
a self-moderating group of like minded people that understand the guidelines and follow them. if you could be banned with no refund, i'm sure people would be ready to follow rules, not give opinions where none were asked for or any of the other atrocities i've seen on this site since i joined just a few weeks ago.
i sometimes wonder why there aren't "etiquette moderators" that enforce common forum etiquette. i find that too often one wrong post can start 6 pages of useless banter eventually rendering the thread a personal vendetta against one person, vs the etiquette moderator simply dealing with the issue and not allowing good threads to go to thread hell.
i can dream right?
R
My opinion, Android is just so seemless and appealing to everyone, not just tweakers. So what we are seeing is more folks that havent been in forums like these and understand what is right and wrong. When little petey goes to the sprint store and sees the TP2 with winmo, plays with it and says "This is just to hard for me." he then picks up the Hero and says "Wow, this phone is more asthetically appealing and much easier to use.". Hence why we now have to deal with a much lower intellect of members because quite simply, Android is a great OS.
Oh my God, I can't even believe this thread exists. I'm moving to AndroidCentral.

Simple solution for [ROM] threads to not grow to 98697615897834 pages...

Ok, so as I was reading though the DC 2.06 thread trying to gain some knowledge and figure out any bugs/workarounds/tips/tricks I got to page 30 something and just had to post this.
PLEASE
PLEASE
PLEASE
Stop posting USELESS, POINTLESS, BLOATING, POSTS!!!
I'm not trying to be hostile or anything but posts like....
"booting it now!" and "waiting for files to copy back to my sd card." and "I'm only 50% downloaded, can't wait!!"
While yes... it's good you are excited, but honestly, 99% of us don't give a damn. It makes it freakin' IMPOSSIBLE to navigate through this forum!!! And I don't want to hear anybody cry "Search" either. vBulletin search is NOT the best out there. I think yahoo Boolean searches from 1997 were better. And you have to search with the most basic of keywords, and those keywords (like apps2sd) are used in so many POINTLESS posts that its again, USELESS.
I mean, there is basically NO moderation here. It's like XDA Hero CDMA forums isn't even here. Things just run amock.
Sorry if this post came off as a bit hard, but come on. I mean, COME ON. Let's ALL work together to make this forum a little easier to find information. Is your post asking a question or adding anything to the community? No? Then think twice about posting in a [ROM] thread. I know the Devs appreciate the positive re-inforcement of their ROMs and they deserve it! However I dont think ROM threads are the place for that, NOT ONLY THAT, but when threads such as DC's start as a 2.0 and then are updated to 2.1 then 2.2 then 2.3 etc etc etc and the original post of the thread is changed instead of creating a new thread, so therefor the first 200 pages aren't even remotely relevant to 2.3 they're still from 2.0!
Ok, I'm sorry...
[/RANT]
i'm not trying to be hostile or anything, and i don't have anything against this or you, but really.
there have been so many threads JUST like this before. they all say the same thing.
in the end, they become one of those 'useless' posts, because no matter how many times you say this, its probably not going to stop people from making useless posts. sorry
AGREED! And it didn't come of hard to me!
Plus, those posts are more useful than this one. At least they give the dev, who worked for hours or days or months on the ROM, the satisfaction of knowing people appreciate it.
This post, on the other hand, accomplishes nothing.

I moderate 3 other vBulletin forums. Mainly car forums, with 50,000+ members. I have no problem keeping them clean, and would not mind spending some of that time over here too. Hell even if I'm the only one doing it that's better than nothing!
thats definitely the worst thing about this forum. we don't have any active mods on this one. most other forums do. not us.

Yeah although u are correct in ur intent. The best way to get these issues taken care of is for our forum to get a mod that actually spends time here and doesn't mind being hated. I personally have tried to get them to make me a mod. But I guess u gotta be someone special to get that privilege. As I always do what they ask of me then never here a reply ontheir decision. Our forum is held down by the fact we don't have subforums like general, themes and apps, q&a and so on. But yeah the only way to get are issues resolved is to contact the mods and ask them to help us.

ROFL This post made me laugh. Its so true, those posts are useless and offer nothing to the Rom maker.
I like the idea of the developers having something like a discuss thread where the good jobs and such can continue be posted for the roms. It becomes pretty difficult looking through the thread to find useful tidbits when it gets to be over 50 pages or so.
I do agree that having a moderator would be of great benefit too. +1 for toast becoming a mod.
U cant fix stupid :-/ people think posts counts make them cool. Posting one word replies followed by 10chars. Itll never be fixed, too many idiots. Just be happy we dont have that gay rep system.
Personally I like treasure hunts, so I am pretty happy the way things are. Lol.
Joking aside, I think that this is one of the strongest online communities/forum that I have joined and cared about. I think that the slack the moderators allow has allot to do with how I feel about this community. People are allowed to have a personality, a opinion, and a sense of humor here. It is very nice to come to a forum like this.
The way I read the long ROM threads is read the first page then go to last page and work my way backwards... works well for me. I see the updates the ROM creator posted and then the latest information being passed along that way.
Thinking about what i read now........ can't wait to finish..
LOL no really i do wish we could kindly ask the Devs to start a new thread upon each major revision and maybe put a link in the new thread to the previous version's tread. then post like mine about may not become as frustrating to read do to the lower volume of them.

Actually he is trying to make this forum more manageable. Which IMO you would have to be blind not to realiese. Seriously 300+ pages are really hard to go though. And sometimes in threads ill see a theme or something cool and ill feel like good thing I read every post in that thread or I wouldnt have that. It feels like some really cool stuff gets barried in the threads.

Damageless is trying to fix finding updates and themes with his updater tool. The updates will come to you! How cool is that? He is also going to try to help other devs to include a updater on their ROMs. Although this will not fix how cluttered the threads are in this forum it will assist you in finding the latest and greatest ways to trick out your Hero.
the only thing that should change is just every time a fix is found the OP should just take the fix and put it in the first post. People should be able to flash a rom and have the fixes all in the first post, this way people dont ask repeat questions. Whether or not everyone likes it people are always going to post "useless" stuff, which can be viewed as appreciative thanks or just people showing their excitement. I personally like xda a lot because people have personality its not all just straight discussion about a rom or anything like that.
Maybe we just could have a separate subforum for each major ROM? that way there could be the threads for people rambling and such, and separate threads for bug fixes, releases, etc.
I'm new 'round here (obviously), and I have to agree, finding the information I need has been difficult with every thread being hundreds pages. Finding that one post of someone with the same problem as me (and a solution) is a monumental task.
Just give each rom author a thread for people to leave their thanks, and keep the rom threads to discussing the rom.
+frickin1 for this thread. I think we should just start a poll to vote for someone here to be a mod, and just make the current XDA moderators accept that we have that mod... it's just ridiculous how it is right now.
what about in-thread stickies...there has to be a plugin for it somewhere...where you can nominate posts as thread stickies and all of the thread stickies, once approved by the OP, move to the beginning of the thread, so it would go
1st Post: OP
2nd Post: First approved helpful post
3rd Post: 2nd approved.... etc
that way all of the useful stuff will be right on that first page. If it's not already a plugin...it should be.

So i just got my replacement device

The battery was draining really quick in my old one. And i dont wanna make the same mistakes i did. So should i root this one? And whats the best lag fix out there?
Why do you post new threads for every update instead of using your original thread? It clutters up the forum and it's impossible for us to see the history or your problem.

Yeah, not really. Just giving you a tip on getting better help from people by helping them to help you. It doesn't help anybody (you included) when the forum is a cluttered mess. It runs contrary to forum etiquette and, to a lesser degree, forum rules.
Hey, I'm not a mod, though, so do what you want.

Do you really want to annoy those who you seek help from?

But anyways, I can tell you rooting your phone did not destroy your battery life. Skip the lag fix if your not having any major issues. Or if you feel like you just have to have more speed, flash one of Eugenes great roms he has out.

OP should get an old school flip phone and never touch a computer again.
forum topics shouldnt be treated like twitter posts...
When you do this, it gives the forum a lesser appearance, especially when people come in these to tell you how stupid/ignorant you are for all the needless threads.
How does telling the world you got a new vibrant to fix your battery problems make this forum a better place? Especially when you dont even state what you did to cause said battery problems.
Please consider this before starting a thread. If not, before you know it mods might start restricting rights who gets to open threads which in effect world kill this forum.
Might I also add this is why we have the Search function as well to reduce the amount of topics posted. This allows us to consolidate all of the information into one post rather than having to hunt and peck for information. Please be more considerate to those around you and if you have an added question then request it on the same thread or people will ignore your request for help (i haven't seen anyone with any real help for you here)

*** Was your thread recently deleted? Read on to find out why ***

If you suddenly cannot find your thread in Vibrant General, it is because I deleted it. Along with over 60 total in the last 2 hours. There is no need for everybody to create a NEW thread related to the release of Froyo OTA for the Vibrant.
Anyone not following this simple request will receive an infraction for the first offense, and then a forum ban for future offenses.
Thank you for your cooperation,
NATF
While I understand that point behind it, you deleted the first REAL thread about its release - that you would need to be on kies mini to receive it, that is what I do not understand. That, and the 5 posts about it on the first page of the DEV section that are still there.

There is no reason why a new thread has to be created because it has been released. The "Froyo coming tomorrow" thread can be used for this purpose, and that OP (or myself) can edit the title accordingly.
There are 7 multi-page kies ota threads on the 1st page of the general section, if this was done for the reason stated, why were those left in place. I never saw a notice posted that any exciting news would be deleted.
EDIT: KA6 must have a new feature because in lieu of a response, I actually heard crickets..

Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
My two cents: Not only is this policy being applied inconsistently, but it's not being done with any reasoned judgment behind the decisions. Jellette's thread was legit IMO--it was helpful and informative and the topic deserved a clean break from the Froyo anticipation thread. ("Froyo is here" /= "They said Froyo is coming").
Let me preface this by saying I think the mods do an exceptional job here, with that said...
I personally believe it is wiser to be fair, rather than consistent. I am not advocating special treatment for Heathen, but given his contributions in the past, present and future... perhaps deletion of his (or any other key contributors) thread should be met with a higher level of scrutiny.
Just my $.02
So umm why were all the thread not just merged? unless there was a bunch of rules being broken I fail to see the reason to delete threads when there is a thread merger tool in the mod control panel.
I do not have a Vibrant, regardless of what TL chooses to believe. As for why certain threads were removed and others were not, that is because I haven't gotten to them yet. After deleting 60+ threads, I needed a break.

The job you guys do is not an enviable task... and I think you guys get it right 99.999% of the time. I just think that you guys can exercise a higher level of discretion when it comes to deleting the post of a quality contributor... especially given context.
You think we can lock this thread now? It is obvious that there will be neither any progress towards to a resolution of an unevenly distributed unwritten policy made, nor will there be a retraction made by the Mod, and this is only going to end in an even more unfair refraction or banning.

I will close this thread in a few minutes. However, in the interest of compromise, you can create a new discussion thread. If you want to, and I will not close/delete it. However, this is with the understanding that any other threads, regardless of who the OP is, will be removed without notice.
Fair compromise?
To be honest, I pushed my boundries a little here. I will respect your original decision and not repost a new topic. I understand, really, with the flood of posts that came through that there was no way to determine what was what.
I believe my respecting your decision is a more appropriate compromise.

My thread was meant to be humorous and is not directly related to the update yet it got deleted

sorry i flipped out, i kind of took my frustration out on you. it was so annoying to see a new froyo thread pop up every 2 hours. and the humor ones are just as bad^^^^
the reason its important is because its not fair to members who are posting unique threads, some who need help with problems, to have their threads get buried almost instantaneously beneath these duplicate, garbage, unproductive threads. and i support and applaud the mod who finally cracked down on this.
nothing personal to you man, just explaining why i kind of freaked out.

i feel so so sorry for Devs who keep on getting harassed for ETAs for their prospective ROMS/Kernels/bowel movements etc... i would just like to tell all those people who say "WAN IZ ICE KREAM TRIFLE WERKING ON MAI SAMZUNG UNIVERSE EGG SANDWITCHHHH???"...
Please make at least ONE New Years resolution..
DONT harass the Devs, they do this as a hobby and members of XDA are not their bosses. this is a surefire way of getting very good Devs leaving XDA completely and even worse get them to stop developing at all...
So please please please... for your own sake and everyone elses.. play nicely, think about what you ask.. otherwise the site WILL suffer..
And in the wise words of Jerry Springer
"Be Good to yourself, and Each other"
Ciao for now..
And you really think these noobs are actually going yo read your thread or heed your warnings?
They can't even be bothered reading the OP of a dev rom that has all the info they need.
In real life crims will be crims, idiots will be idiots just like noobs will be noobs.

in terms of my knowledge i am relatively noobish but at least i have common sense... but anyway XDA is getting such a bad name across the Net as the noob swarm of idiots takes over...
just wanted to say my piece.. and pass on my appreciation
Happy New Year to all and hope all your Christmasses/Kwanzas/Hannukahs (unsure of other religions/countries) were groovy..
Ronm Guides instructions etc should all be boldly titled
DO NOT READ THIS >> DO NOT FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS .
Please ask the same question that was asked half an hour ago .
Yes you can flash a Nokia rom on your SGS .
Before the noobs reply nobody has a complaint about any user that asks a relevant question or cannot quite grasp an instruction set .Its those that simply refuse to learn anything and expect members to do it all for them probably due to them still having mummy wipe their arse .
We all started from zero knowledge but most of us took the time and trouble to read and learn .

Quality!
i'm at work and that did make me chuckle..... oh the life of a Network Engineer... now if my SGS2 could run Cisco IOS... hmmmmmm
Well said Nutmegy (and others).
I'm still relatively n00bish, but I've got initiative and a desire to learn everything/anything I can about how this phone ticks. I absolutely agree that anyone who isn't prepared to "do the hard yards" should honestly stick to stock unless/until they are.
This would save a number of people (this number seems to be growing by the week) the grief of "soft bricking" their phone & not being able to use same for however many days it takes to get the advice on here to fix it.

Bala.... you are so right... anyway enough of my rant....
i need a strong coffee... working on a Jack Daniels induced hangover is strictly not advisable...
Oh hell yes. I tend to mock & ask the mods to close the thread. After I've made sure the OP has seen/taken note of my mocking/sarcasm, of course

This thread is unbelievable senseless. You will nobody convince to stop spamming. Just another off topic,,look-how-good-I-am-and-how-stupid-are-other'' thread. asking such questions is business as usual, every dev should be cool enough to handle and ignore it.

Ok fair enough.. i'm not going to rise up to it... just hungover and fed up of reading crap and watching XDA going down the toilet.. if there is a Mod somewhere please close... it was not my intention to pi$$ anyone else off... just a minor rant....
Merry XMAS and a happy new year to you!
If anyone thinks its bad now...then just wait for next year. It will get much worse.
Very simple reason - just do the maths. Last year in Australia alone android had about 20% market share. This year it rose to 48% of all smartphones sold to be the number 1 operating system. All in just one year. I suspect the same pattern is happening worldwide.
So next year it will only increase. Therefore, more users = more xda members so hold on to your seats boys and girls.
And do you know what??? There is nothing you or I can do about it. Shame!
Maybe a silly suggestion and it may be hard to implemented, but xda should have a system where new members need to have been logged in for say 100 hours or have read a certain number of threads before they are allowed to post. Maybe even pop-up messages with basic general information / warnings etc for them as well during the first month/s.
My worry is that it may eventually get so bad that the forum administrators will do something drastic that affects all users negatively.

well if you are just talking about resolutions on here regarding smartphones well i suppose getting stable ICS is one, also i seriously cant wait to get a ASUS Transformer Prime and ill by pass on the Galaxy Nexus and Note both of which i don't believe are as good all round as the SGSII and wait for the SGSIII.
ALSO it would be good if noobs who post duplicate questions without using the search function first get an infraction, there needs to be a disclaimer of some sort when they register for the first time that they need to use the search function first and only if they cannot find the answer to their questions (which is all honesty is unlikely as pretty much everything has been covered on here) only then start a thread.
Finally - it would be good if some people didn't steal other peoples work and pass if off as their own, and remember people play nice as much as you can, all this bickering isn't productive for the forum.

Not silly at all my friend something needs to be done about the sheer amount of duplicate questions being asked time and time on here.

Wow this is actually being quite a constructive thread... USEFUL ideas instead of *****ing about it all.. but yes some kind of mechanism in place to stop dodgy post.. then at least Forum Admins can say "We told you so"... or indeed the easiest way... and i'm going to whisper this... charge people which could unfortunately be the negative effect that XDA could force on us all..
I know they have put the built in search functionality into the Topic creation field (which has saved me a few times!), but there could be a little bit more as mentioned above.
I re-iterate... we dont want to lose any more devs.. and its the stupid few that ruin it for everybody, i have referred to XDA for a few years now and have found it such a useful resource, a good place to share ideas, help each other out and for Devs/Themers to show off their wares...
LONG LIVE XDA!
