Hello! I'm an avid xda reader but just joined the discussions =)
I got an A500 but am waiting for my brother to bring it to me (he got it in the US for 330$ and I live in Brazil, where it would cost me around 800$), so I haven't had the opportunitty to check this out myself.
Which would drain more battery from the tablet: a USB wired keyboard or a bluetooth keyboard??
If anyone could give me suggestions on a case that holds the keyboard+tab (and that ships worldwide), I would be very grateful!

I'm not sure, but I think that bloetooth keyboard will consume more than usb one. Simply you need to have bluetooth run all the time, when you using keyboard.
If you looking some case for your Iconia, and you need to transport it with keyboard, you should think about some case with keyboard build in. Ebay should help.

The little keyboard you see at the lower right of my Acer A500 was purchased off ebay for $14.00 s/h included. It was a snap to pair with the A500 just as any headset or similar device. I found it very responsive, and the battery life is estimated at 50 hrs use / 400 hours standby.
The keys are not plastic, but rubber instead. The keyboard ways a mere 40grams, infact the stylus next to it weighs a bit more.
If your looking for an extremely lightweight "thumb typing' keyboard i would recommend this

i have this keyboard (use it with ps3 all the time) but when i connect it to a500 it pairs, and says connected as input device, but i cant find settings for it under input and it also doesnt display any keystrokes when connected.. was there anything special you had to do to get it working?
I use the Logitech DiNovo Mini, it works fine, except for the touchpad, which isn't supported. I hope it wil work in HC 1.3

I have one of these and have the same problem... On my Android 2.3 device, I ended up having to use the BlueInput (demo) driver, which inserts a copyright string every x characters. I really don't want to have to do the same for HC...
I see he hasn't come back with answers, maybe he's selling them on EBay himself?

dont get me wrong, this is a great cheap keyboard. i love it for my ps3, it works flawless. just sadly not for this. but i dont seem to have much luck with anything bluetooth. im having trouble using wiimote on anything but nesoid. :/

I just bought a BT Keyboard with Micro-Usb Charging port. That way i dont have to carry two power cables.

can you send me the links from where did you get it...even when it arrives do share how it works on defy.
I am using my trusty old Nokia SU-8W folding BT keyboard. It needed a "helper" app in 2.1 but runs perfectly in 2.2 without. Seem to be a few on ebay, though if you're in 2.2 I imagine any good BT keyboard might work. Though I would confirm before buying. I am on stock USA t-mo phone, 2.2.1 Has no mouse. Has a slide-out to stand the phone in (similar to the video), but has to be "loaded" from within the phone. ("Initiate pairing from phone"). In texting the return key actually does a "return", not send. It sits up high enough in the built-in stand to use the lower nav keys.
Copy & paste are the only things I'm still trying to sort.
Is there any keyboard in the market that also have mouse (trackpad) support which can be used on defy's browser..!!??

There are small keyboards with trackpads from the same company, too. I dont know if they work but as BT Mouses should work with 2.2 flawlessly i think these devices should work too.
As long as the device works with Android in general it should of course work with the browser too.
I think better use a PC.

Ah, i forgot to report back.
The keyboard is working with my windows 7 pc but it is not working with my defy.
I get it to connect to the defy and show up as a connected HID device but it wont recognize any keyboard input.
I am searching for a stock rom with bt-keyboard support at the moment...
and "I think better use a PC." is just about the dumbest answer you could give.

Hi,
I bought a Logilink ID0070 bluetooth keyboard and it doesn't work. Neither in CM7, nor in CM9 I can type something on this keyboard. It is paired with my device but nevertheless it didn't want to do something else.
Is there already a solution to this problem?

I think you can use bluetooth keyboards but it would drain battery too fast, are there mini keyboards for android smartphones? or could I buy a cable that goes from mini usb to usb so I can put an usb keyboard in my phone? the idea is to have a small dock to put my phone in horizontal and with the keyboard write university stuff instead of using paper, then this .doc save it to my dropbox, what do you think any suggestions?
AFAIK your only option is a bluetooth keyboard. Sadly the Defy can't act as a USB host. So you cannot connect a wired keyboard to it.

Currently using my old Nokia SU-8W and it works great. If I have a lot of text there's nothing like an external keyboard. Battery drain not an issue.
I've been trying to get a BT mouse to work on my nexus 4.
i've now tried 2 different models, without success.
both are recognized, both pair and then both completely fail to work.
to add insult to injury, i tried one of those mice on a friend's samsung google nexus today -- also running jellybean -- and it worked perfectly.
could anybody running a BT mouse successfully SINCE THE LAST UPDATE (4.2.1) let me know what make/model they have?

take a nexus 4 + slimport adaptor + BT mouse + BT keyboard,
add an lcd TV with hdmi input (now common in hotels etc.),
and you have:
- a portable PC
- a decent home media centre (with armchair remote input)
- possibly a productivity tool for editing text/ photos etc. for which a touchscreen is too inprecise an input device.

Instead of doing all that why wouldn't you just go wireless display and then use the phone as the remote at the sametime? Wouldn't that make more sense?
And AFAIK, bluetooth input devices weren't supported?
sorry, i typically use a laptop for those things. It would make a lot more sense btw. You can also use your phone as a bluetooth mouse/keyboard if you have a laptop that connects to a tv.

Wow, you are quite "the absurd man". If you're trying to find help in a forum, it's best if you be a bit nicer. We're both trying to give you better alternatives to what you're trying to accomplish. To answer your questions...
A/wireless display technology is built in with the n4 and jelly bean and it's not yet widely available to most tv's yet but achievable with adapters.
B/so you don't have to carry around a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. It helps you with 2 less things you carry (unless you're using a combo).
C/this one I can't back him cause I thought it is supported. Maybe it is broken, but I don't use it so I wouldn't know

i don't want to carry a laptop around when i already have a computer in my pocket.
and i'm not happy with touch input devices as they are too slow and lack the precision needed for heavy editing.
these are my (not i.m.o. unreasonable) requirements of the nexus 4.

getting the display to the TV is no problem -- i already have a slimport adaptor! why would i want to max out my wifi for that? it's bananas!
and i've already said that i don't want to use touch input as it's too slow and inprecise for my purposes.
my portable (igo stowaway) keyboard and notebook BT mouse are tiny (and inexpensive).
sorry to seem abrasive but you are not getting what i'm trying to achieve here.

i've heard other people making the tablet/ phone distinction before and i'm not sure it's a valid one. the nexus 4 surely IS a tablet, albeit with a smaller physical (not resolution) screen. what else distinguishes a tablet? i use my N4 in exactly the same way i used my asus transformer and playbook.

In your first post you didn't clarify that you were going to hook it up to a tv, so I assume that you were planning to connect a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard to your n4 and try to work from it's bit-smaller-than 5" display, which is highly unproductive.
N4 is technically a phone, not a tablet, by definition and specifications. I shouldn't have to explain the differences between a phone and a tablet (I'm sure there's a thread with detailed explanations)... just because it's running the same os doesn't mean it has the same hardware classification.
I understand that you want your N4 to replace your computer and the technology is very close, but not quite there yet... For simple tasks, it's good, but for anything editing, a laptop computer is highly more productive than a phone. Imagine you're doing something and you constantly receive phone calls and text messages.
Anyways, I will test this later when I get home and see if it's really broken. I know my Bluetooth moga game controller works just fine so I don't know why your mouse wouldn't.

my BT keyboard works fine, but no mouse that i've tried.
Bluetooth is pretty much borked in all versions of Jellybean for all devices. Some things work and some things don't its pretty hit or miss. Version 4.2.1 added some drivers for game controllers but not much else so that's probably why those work and things like mice don't. There is supposed to be another fix coming in the next version but all that's known to be in there for sure is a fix for A2DP streaming.

however, the (jellybean) samsung google nexus has no problem running a BT mouse, as i saw today.
i'd like to raise awareness of this problem with the N4 and get some more response from users, which has so far been sparse, probably because (as other posters in this thread have indicated) few see the need for a mouse.
for instance, somebody reported on another thread that they had been able to make a microsoft 5000 notebook mouse work. can anybody corroborate that?
i'm reluctant to shell out for yet another mouse considering that i'm currently holding 2 non-functioning ones.

In the short future, I proposed to buy a keyboard for my Nexus 7 thus I can type a lot faster and better at anytime and anywhere.
There are a lot of types of portable/mini keyboard in the market now, but I prefer the "normal-type" keyboard than the "dock-type" or "case-type" keyboard.
I would like to ask which one will drain battery more:
Wired (USB) Portable Keyboard
Wireless (Bluetooth) Portable Keyboard
I would be grateful if anyone can answer my question above, maybe based on your own experiences or technical aspect/specification.
My wired usb keyboard seems to fun it down a little faster, but i cant tell that big a difference. I mostly use the bluetooth one since its more portable.

I'd say go for the wireless one I think it is more battery friendly and more importantly you can change and use your keyboard at the same time .
