[Q] low internal memory for nand ics beta 10 (tytung's) - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

HI, I'm currently using ics beta 10 as a rom for my hd2 but then I only got 150 mb of internal storage what's worst is that the actual storage I get to fill is only around 50 mb cause the rest 100 mb is being used by the rom applications, is there any way I could increase the size of my internal memory? can't install apps cause they say insufficient memory like if I have 30 mb left and the app size is around 17 mb it's still insufficient, thanks for the help!

Hi,
Please show what ROM you are trying to install.
All ROMS have slightly different loading procedures .
What phone do you have(512 or 1024)
We need more information to help you...
I found the answer
the recovery was included in zip file
Rom:BOYPPC SHIFTPDA Ginger 2.3.4 HoneyComB & Sense.s_V28
Recovery:157 MB
BUt new question: How can I find out which phone I have (512/1024)?
and what's the difference?

Hi,
Check in settings/about phone/hardware information/memory and it will tell you.
It's about available RAM on your phone.
The more RAM you have, the more space for ROMS/apps etc.
American TMOUS phones tend to be 1024.Our poor EU phones only have 512

thats RAM, we all show 411 (or so) RAM under android. (576 total - 128 graphics - approx 25 meg that i dont know where it goes)
For rom click settings - storage and in the bottom half is shown internal storage. This only shows the data partition size, it doesnt include the system, cache or boot partitions.
For an eu phone, running a cm7 rom, it will show around 200/220 meg total, for a fully inclusive sense rom it will be wayyyy less. 50 meg or so.
if you are running an ext partition, this will not be included as internal storage, BUT the system, will use it as if it is internal storage, so that 200 figure will stay fairly constant as you install apps.

[Q] unusable internal memory

Hi, I am using MIUI with Android version 2.3.7. Everything is allright, but I only have 217 mb of internal memory in total. The MIUI ROM and other apss take up about 180 mb and although I have moved some apps to sd I now only have 40 mb available. It should have 512 mb internal memory. Why can't I see and use all of it? Is it possible that I didn't delete windows mobile or one of the other android roms I have used so far, though I am sure I have tried "clean install" a few times?
Dalvik cache & app data take up a lot of space too, you could move these to th SD ext partition to free up more internal memory. You will need a2sd installed I think to enable this.
Peace
Sent from my HD2
the 'available internal memory' figure only counts the data partition size.
so (for example) if your rom requires a 200 meg system partition, you would show..
512 minus 200 minus whatever cache size you flashed minus the boot and recovery partitions (lets guess 50 meg) so your available internal memory on a completely fresh install, no data or apps, would still only show a max of 262meg available.
Also, if you flash a system partition bigger than required, you dont get the extra space to use. So flash a 180meg rom onto a 250 meg system partition, and you lose 70meg, the system wont use it for anything.

Thank you so much. My ROM itself is about 100 mb. How much data partition size should I actually spare for such a rom? Also could you please direct me to the post that tells me how to arrange the data partition size and do the rest of flashing my rom again? I would really like to have more available internal memory. Also I would be happy if you told me what ext 3 or ext 4, whatever it is called, is and if it has anything to do with internal memory.
If the rom is 100mb then you need a partion of at most 110 so if your using clk or magdlr..after you have wiped nand...partition it to 110 if possible or use 105 even cos you don't wanna be giving up wanted space..

What is the difference between the ROM size and internal Memory RAM???

Hi Guys,
I have a Defy Plus with DFP-231 Asian Retail version ROM. I had some memory cleaning widget which shows that my applications could use a total of 350 MB memory.....
I thought that the D+ came with 2 GB internal memory so I could load upto ~2GB of games(apps) running. ...:crying:
With all this confusion...
My Question is : What is the Difference between The RAM and ROM and Why is my widget showing only 350 MB usable for apps???
Kindly correct me If I'm wrong in my assumptions.
Cheers,
Vic
do not confuse ram with rom. rom is the storage which stores installed apps and system files, its like the hdd in a pc, and it keeps its content when powered down.
ram is a temporary storage from where apps run, and it clears after a power-down. (memory in a pc)
the defy has 2gb built-in storage (rom), from which 1.2 is usable for apps, and it has 512MB ram (around 470-480 usable).
you probably have a lot of apps installed, thats why the widget shows only 350mb remaining.
Thank you for clearing this

umm, no. they get installed in rOm, thats the permanent storage, ram is temporary. although there are solutions to install apps to sdcard. (app2sd, data2sd)

Usable for Apps means memory that can be used to store apps permanently.. It is the available ROM on your device. As stated before the 2GB memory is shared by OS & Apps.
RAM (512 MB on defy+) is temporary and is cleared on reboot and other activities.

[q] usable storage is not reasonable

Hello everybody, i have a i9500 phone, with crash rom installed..
Here is the question,
In the storage section,
All Storage is 8,8
Apps are 2.9 GB
Photos, videos are 125 MB
Audio is 496 KB
Downloads is 114 MB
And the others are 44 and 70
But it says usable storage is 1,09
As you see, usable storage should be at least 4-5 gb,
Why is it like this and what should I do?
Tried flashing other roms like cm11 and phoenix, but no help.
Wiping data doesn't help either.
What should I do?

U can go check in settings -> more -> storage -> misc and see there can b thumbnail files with 100s mb of size u can delete that. Its not going to harm your real photos. Plus if u hv a backup there like Titanium or nandroid u can delete that too to increase space
If none works
Thn there is always external SD

Did you guys solve this?
Anyone know how to fix this?
I was on custom rom, I had this problem. Now i'm back to stock but still 2 GB missing.
Solution
Alright finally fixed it. With ES file explorer I went to mnt > shell > 0 > Android > obb. Apparently, there were 2 game files that should've been deleted but for some reason they were there.
So yeah whatever it is, it can be found with root file explorers and can be deleted, you just gotta search.
Worth noting: if you've ever made a backup via recovery (cwm), it will eat up a good 3-4gb.

Yes but it would be seen in the storage info under miscellaneous category. The problem here was that some of the memory was missing without any info as to what's using it.

No, it doesn't show up on misc. Titanium backup will be listed, but not if you backed up using recovery. The back up I'm referring to is of the phone in its entirety which can be between 3-6gb.

I can't find files taking up space in my internal memory of an android phone

I have bought Lenovo k4 note n have recently upgraded to marshmallow. So I ve 16 GB of internal memory out of which the Android 6.0 inbuilt memory app inside storage and USB setting, says 5.37 GB is OS occupied. 9.46 GB out of 10.63 GB is used. Further break down are as follows:
Apps 5.29 GB
Images 105 MB
Videos 8 KB
Audio 588 KB
Other 488 MB
Cached Data 183 MB
Which totals to 6.066 GB. So now subtracting 9.46 with 6.066 GB I get 3.394 GB which I can't understand where it went.
Still after going inside file manager n clicking the view hidden files these are what I get:
Android 2.17 GB
Download 278.01 MB
Shareit 200 MB
WhatsApp 136 MB
Pictures 74 MB
Books 52 MB
DCIM 29 MB
Which comes to around 3 something GB and still 3 GB are missing.. so.. around 6 GB of files are not showing.. I am unable to find the files that are taking up space. Can anyone help please.
Now I have rooted my device with Twrp n SuperSU and and now I still have the same problem of large data files. Is it normal or can I get more space. The user data which I wasn't able to see is accessible now. Can I delete those data to free up space. And how do I get to look files taking up space which actually adds up to the space I have. The first pic I uploaded provides information of my phone's storage handled my marshmallow s219. You can see that 5.24 GB is OS occupied compared to unrooted 5.37 GB. The second image points to the fact that only around 3.2 GB of space is shown out of supposed 6.25 GB. The third image tells the accessible part of my phone data which is very low (around 700 MB). And the third is the inaccessible files which I have come to see through the blessing of rooting the phone. So I think my phone shouldn't use up that much data as I don't be very large app. Largest is Facebook. Can someone help me to optimise my phone. Thanking you guys in advance.?
