[Q] Playing m4v Videos on ICS9 on my Nook Color - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been using my Nook Color to play converted DVD's (using Handbrake...to m4v format), without problems using CM7 for almost a year.... and CM9 (up until nightly 20120126)... Now any recent nightly update produces green diagonal lines through the screen when I try to play. Doesn't matter what player I use...Mobo, Doubletwist, stock player (that comes with CM9)...sometimes I get a error that says "unsupported format". If I convert back to build 20120126, everything is fine... Is it just me? am I missing something? Is m4v no longer supported out of Handbrake? I would appreciate any help!!

I'm no longer able to play m4v videos either. I don't use the nook to view videos often, but I am on cm9 and tried to run a m4v within the last hour. It didn't work. I'm guessing there may have been an issue with the new kernel.

I am on the ICS nightly from 2-20 and I can confirm that a Handbrake converted m4v does play correctly using MX Video Player. (At least for me!) hth

Hi,
Does anyone know if the Adam will play MKV files, cause I stored all my movies in this format?
Waiting for the shipment of my Adam.... (timeslot 15-22 Jan, but no confirmation yet)
i'll let you know when i get mine tomorrow
Thanks in advance.

The Tegra2 chip can play MKV video... however, please keep in mind that MKV is just a container, so it depends on the way the video was actually encoded. That being said, a number of people with the ViewSonic G-Tablet which runs the Tegra 2 chip reported that 1080p h.264 High Profile videos will not play.
Some of you may remember that the Boxee box was originally slated to have the Tegra 2 chip, but they swapped it out late in the game due to lack of support of 1080p High Profile h.264.
okay i tried have Adam read two different movie files off a USB key. I tried to play back with VideoPlayer (NI), Movies (google), and mVideoPlayer (supposedly support mkv files)
1. a 1.4 g divx files (avi) plays back very nicely
2. mkv files, doesnt recognize the format by any of the three apps above
if want me to try any other video players let me know
Have you tried vplayer?

NEVER MIND!!! I found out how to play them. Dont use Sniffer to play them. I located the file with Astro Manager and "Open As" ==> video ==> your player
Android Google Video ==> plays the video just fine, no subtitles
VideoPlayer (NI) ==> plays the video, no subtitles.
mVideoPlayer ==> plays the video with subtitles. Shuts off after a minute (maybe because it's a demo version)
vplayer ==> doesn't open my mkv file
and this is all from the USB key
Usually i like to see Naruto Episodes from Taka and One Piece from yibis so far both play fine with thng e default player and have subtitles, even tho i noticed some stopping and desync sometimes.

[Q] MP4 Playback on Vegacomb 1.7

Hi, I've got some Mp4 video's i've been playing back quite happily on Custom ROM R8 and have today put Vegacomb 1.7 on and these files do not playback. The only way i can get them to play back was to load Moboplayer and use software decode.
Anyone got any ideas or is this a bug in Vegacomb? Tried to post it in the Vegacomb forum but couldn't.
Cheers.
On custom R8 you played them with default media player?
Did you download Moboplayer codecs?
Hi, yeah sorry, on R8 I used the default player. On Beta 1.7 the default player just gives "Fail to load" message.
Even in Moboplayer just selecting the movie gives the message "this file cannot be played by the system player, please long press it, and select soft decoding mode to play it"
As far as codecs go not sure which on i need for the Vega? can anyone advise?
Thanks
I use Vplayer with 2.2 and 2.3. maybe he will run with 3.0

So I ended up going back to MoDaCo R8 and all is well. All movies play with no need for an additional player. I did however load Moboplayer and it plays all files using hardware decode (which did not work on Vegacomb.
Thanks for the replies.
I have the same problem. I don't like to go back, I like the VegaComb. Isn't there anone who can tell how to solve this problem?

[Q] Video Transcode

Hi,
I just got a new TF101G, and I would like to transcode some of my TV records for the Transformer.
So I just went along using Handbrake and created a MP4 file out of my TS recording.
The re-coded movie has a resolution of 720x572 (that's the original size, I didn't changed anything in Handbrake). But when I play that using the stock app, the aspect-ratio during playback seems to be odd. I basically followed the settings on http://www.transformerforums.com/fo...onvert-video-transformer-using-handbrake.html.
What am I missing here? Is there any "trick" to re-code movies for the Transformer?
Try Mx Video Player on the market. Works for just about everything. I would post a link but I can't yet.
OK; I will try that - but shouldn't the video also work fine with the stock player?
I use the stock player for movies that I have made into mp4's using handbrake. They're not HD so I have not changed any setting in handbrake either. They have all played fine so far.
I have also used dice player to play a video that was downloaded and mx or stock would not play it and dice player did, so who knows with this stuff
What resolution are your movies that you re-coded to mp4 using handbrake?

[Q] Can't play mp4s after install of 4.12

has anyone else had this issue? Can't Play Mp4 , but wmv plays fine.
I have tried three different players, all with the same results.
Negative.... mine work just fine.

I used to be able to play a version of Cars2 transcoded to MP4 on 4.1.1. Now the video plays but without sound on 4.1.2. I'm using Daroon player.
never mind, forgot daroon was updated to wondershare. video works great in wondershare

HD+ CM10 - Missing codecs

Hi all. I am currently running very greens 12/31 CM10 from SD card. I know this isn't the most current but it runs rock solid for me. I am running 2player 2.0 to stream files from my computer on both my nook and matrix (stock) when I try to stream videos on my nook it says it is missing codecs. The videos stream fine on my matrix. The files are avi and divx. I could see a possible problem with the diva but didn't expect to have an issue with avi files. Is there an extra codec pack or something that I can install? I searched using the xda app but came up with nothing. If the browser search is better please let me know for the future as well. Thanks for any help to fix this.

Have you tried a different player or is there an option to switch to software mode? I generally use MXplayer because it plays everything under the sun, but I dont know if it can do all the streaming stuff you want to do.
Use BSPlayer. It plays all them and can stream from LAN and Homegroups with Samba SMB
Thanks for the suggestions. I will try be player and MX player. I looked on 2players site and it only will play installed codecs. I am wondering if this is specific to this ROM or is it throughout cyanogen due to legal issues with bundling the codecs and there licenses. I don't know. Again thanks for the suggestions.
