NOTE: All 2011 Xperia firmwares EXCEPT build .62 can now be rooted directly using DooMLoRD's zergRush:
I repeat: THIS firmware CANNOT be rooted UNLESS you have an UNLOCKED bootloader and downgrade the kernel.
For UNLOCKED bootloaders ONLY:
DOWNLOAD: http://ul.to/tz3hl0yu/Recovery.rar
Steps:
Flash FTF via Flashtool.
Enter recovery with the command: fastboot boot recoveryARC.img
A recovery menu will appear in your phone.
Sets scripts assets: ENABLED
Flash RootXperia.zip via recovery. You have to copy RootXperia.zip to the SD card previously.
Reboot device.
If your bootloader is LOCKED:
Flash the previous LT15a .42 build here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1491066
Root using SuperOneClick or ZergRush.
Update over the air.
This FlashTool file works on ANY Xperia arc (LT15a/i).
Your arc does NOT have to be rooted.
Your arc does NOT have to be bootloader unlocked (except for root).
This does NOT re-lock a SIM unlocked phone (unlocking is ONCE and PERMANENT).
This does NOT unlock your bootloader.
This WILL wipe your phone & root. Backup first.
You MUST have BOTH PC Companion and Update Service installed. MIRROR: http://jp1.ca/androidstuff
Download: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6760938/Firmwares/LT15a arc_v2.3.4, 4.0.2.A.0.62_Generic USA.ftf (262.27 MB, single flashtool file)
Please do NOT mirror files.
Also confirmed using TrevE's Logger Test App that this firmware does NOT contain the privacy invading rookit by Carrier IQ.

Thank for the new ROM,
Q: What are the differences between NAM ROM and other ROMs (e.g. Global)?
Q: Is there a HOPE that this ROM will be rooted some day for Locked BL?
Q: Is there a big difference between .42 and .62?
Thanks a lot in advance.

All the generic ROMs are pretty similar. Some may have additional languages or applications specific to the region (but not carrier apps). Frankly, it doesn't really matter. I've used Nordic, Hong Kong and UK ROMs all without issue.
As for rooting, it's CLEARLY STATED in the description:

As for the differences, I haven't seen any discernible, visible difference. Some users have reported better battery life, less lag, etc.

I just received a notification that this update is available OTA on my .42. I, however, "freezed" some system apps. If I restore those apps (I didn't do any other internal changes) will OTA work? or is there still a risk of "bricking" a phone so that i will have to factory reset it?
THANKS!
\\edit: took the risk, update was smooth (and surprisingly fast!)
\\edit2: never mind, the reason it wsa so "smooth and fast" was that update failed. Any idea how to make it work?

As stated multiple times: Update OVER-THE-AIR... (NOT through PC Companion...)
You have to have a SIM card in. You then force an update via Settings / About.

May be I was not clear. SORRY
At first, I flash .42 from the above link. I followed your instructions. I rooted the phone then updated over the air. The update was downloaded to my mobile. I pressed Install. The phone restarted but No update to .62!!!. Exactly same as matus201.
Then, I tried another way, I update through pc. the update works very well BUT it cant be rooted.
Any suggestion.

I know that usually when OTA fails, it's because some system apps were removed / modified. But if nothing was modified (as in your case, dajj) i don't know what the problem is.
@Dajj: can you try if OTA works if you don't root .42?

If I use OTA update, will it wipe user data?

no it won't.

Thank you for your answer. I downgraded to .42 and I have installed all my programs. I'll try to update using OTA maybe tomorrow or in the weekend.

Update to .62. I can't tell it is worth or not because I'm busy. But as others said, it has some improvement in battery life and task management.

Many thanks for the help.
After much messing around, I got there.
Guys, I do not know what is wrong.
It might be the wrong file that I got from JetAudio. And if it is, then Im very sorry guys.
I uploaded a new 4.1.B.0.587 kernel.
NOTE:
Download the attachement on the first page and use that and change your kernel.
it should be okay now. Please tell me.
updated from Wontan and it's running flawlessly,
I flashed this new firmware over .431 version without wiping data and vibration for new SMS isn't working anymore. Strange thing is, that vibration for SMS doesn't work in Lightflow neither. Incoming call notifications are fine with or without Lightflow. I had to flash .431 back and everything is fine again. Does anyone else experience this?
Working Gr8 Thanks

You can try and post your results for others. I am not running this. I just tested to make sure my ftf functions properly.
I'll give it a shot later and see, just have to figure which files to exclude after getting root. I'll let everyone know.
what the difference? from the first release? any notation given by TMO?
Can someone test if this rootkit work on 10.3.1.E.0.191?
It uses master key exploit (bug 9950697) and if Sony didn't fix it we can root .191 without flashing old kernel.

It likely wouldn't work, but it might. The baseband on the 6602 is very similar, but not exactly the same. If you used flashtool and SKIPPED baseband and kernel, it MIGHT work on the 6603 and 6602, but there is a risk of brick from what I understand. This phone is my daily and I haven't backed it up yet, but I might try it - with a locked bootloader you can't REALLY kill it, it's relatively safe (emergency recovery?) I have a 6603, and I've flashed 6606 baseband only in the past. The phone boots but once it initializes the radio, crashes. (likely because the kernel drivers for the radio are different then what baseband expects.)
This also may have been covered before and I would like to know if my above statement is true.

so from what i understand, i can't/or should not install this on my c6602 as well? because if so, then i would like to know if you know of any alternatives, because i have an international phone and would like to keep using it with t-mobile, problem is their coverage is ridiculous and i love this phone so much i can not bring my self to get rid of it without getting the Z2 at least. i found the Wi-Fi calling feature is perfect for my situation, but its only on t-mobile phones and im hoping its on t-mobile ROMs as well. can anyone guide me towards the light? i'd really appreciate the help :fingers-crossed:

I am rooted but I have found a way to do so in a rather abnormal way.
I use xz recovery app to get to twrp. I have rooted the phone using Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v33
This method I use works 100% all the time.
I have a locked bootloader so this routine I use seems to be the only method to work.
WHen I need, I use flashtool to restore everything to stock.
I think the newest update with ftf would be the next best step for be to acquire.
I dont like trying to flash kernels. Too much involved. This particular phone has posed a huge troublesome step by step method to get it where it is now.
To go and learn new methods would be a daunting task.

Its just like installing a custom rom yet its not a custom rom just stock with pre root access. if you have rooted before and have twmp or philz touch whiz recovery just install it from the recovery option wiping Dalvik and Cache and then installing this zip then reboot system and you're good to go. shouldn't be hard follow some guides on youtube if you don't know.
what if i have never rooted before?? because ive got a locked bootloader with 100% stock rom and havent flashed any custom stuff... all i did was get the phone from vodafone and then i flashed the uk firmware (same as the one you have minus the root)

EDIT: installed wrong version haha
Nice work with the Flashable zip.
Apart from the inclusion of the 'clear all recents' button what else is improved upon, or not forgotten, in comparison to the earlier Lollipop updates?
My Z2 is still showing V 23.1.A.0.726 ready for downloading but so far I've resisted this so-called upgrade, its too half-baked. I'm still on KitKat until I get more feedback on this being a better attempt at an upgrade.
What are your impressions so far?

What are your impressions so far?

Well since ive been using it daily I found that the battery has been draining fast soon as I take it off charge its down to 98 percent already I have lollipop ? on my moto g doesn't drain this fast. I was getting issues with keyboard on z2. This seems to fix that bug. Haven't noticed any other changes so far just seems to be minor bug fixes.

 good luck
thx for the zip
So, as I understand
move the zip to my sd card,
flash from recovery( my Z2 is 17.1.1.a.0.402 root with dual recovery) the zip and that is?????
nothing else?
Do I need flashtool or everything else?
i am asking bcause I saw other guides that said at the end to flash with flashtool the ftf fimware:
like step 11 at following link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/general/4-4-4-creating-rooted-update-package-t2933155
"Never exclude = never check (x) kernel. It is the main reason we're flashing this."

I've noticed when i was using the stock rom (1000000% uk stock with no extras) i could get around 3/4 days battery life which includes having the bluetooth on all day connected to my helmet and sbh52 and after i installed this im getting half that xD....
So the increased battery consumption is another reason to stay away from this. I get plenty of usage on KitKat, thats with BT and Wifi on nearly all of the time.
From all the negative aspects I've read about Lollipop on the Z2 it seems like its anything but an upgrade.

Well, I flashed it with Flashtool after customize all the apps already installed prompt me for a lot of permissions of some apps, then after about 10 min of working normally or good, suddenly it restarted and now it restarts just when it try to load apps...
Does you recommend me anything? erase anything?

This firmware is also available for single sim variant (E6553) now.. Customized Singapore, US and Vietnam.. To those running on .266 firmware, are there any noticeable difference compared to .251 firmware ?? Considering on flashing here if there are any..

Just flashed .266 Customized SG and restored apps etc..; no noticeable improvement whatsoever but no regressions either.. this said only from updating and installing apps, entering passwords, one should probably notice something within some days of usage.
Surely won't hurt if you flash it, esp. if you want to keep up to date.

I see.. Thank you for the feedback.. Did you flash using the latest version of Flashtool (0.9.19.8) ?? I read somewhere in Z3+ forum a while ago that some people have trouble flashing firmware on this phone.. It's been a while since I used flashtool (last used when I was using Xperia Z 6-7 months back).. Just want to make sure it's the same process for this phone..

Yes and I also applied the 0.9.19.10 patch.. the process is basically the same, while this new version will ask you if you'd like to use a flash script it has for our phone.. I did use it and it went all well. Also when it starts flashing it will ask you about TA skipping, just hit 'yes'.

Yes but mostly because I hadn't wiped data for a long time.. You could get along well with dirty flash if you have too much to restore.. If you have any problems afterwards, you can always do a factory reset.

Automatically unpack in Xperifirm, then in flashtool go to Tools->Bundles->Create, select the folder where you extracted the fw, add all the files to the right column, enter info about phone, customization, version - create.. Then flash the created ftf it in flash mode (it will show up in Flashtool when you hit 'flash')

Thanks a lot.. I'll surely give it a go when I have some free time.. I just checked xperifirm and it seems like the firmware is rolling out to more regions now.. I wonder if Sony will push an OTA update anytime soon..
@airlessproject, Do I have to check any box under MiscTA Exclude (by default SIMLOCK is checked) before flashing ?? I'm not sure what this does..

One thing that is changed at least for me I have the apn settings download feature again in mobile network settings. Don't know why the last build was missing it anyhow.
I'm from Spain this Update is available in my country by OTA way. I have got an Z3+ Dual Sim version.

Hi all,
Have installed the above update for UK and wondering if anyone could help with rooting it. I have tried using the .251 rooting files but obviously different version so hasn't worked out. Thanks for your attention.

I wonder if this root security patch affects those of us with unlocked bootloaders? (Probably not)
Also I hope the full image is released soon...

I got the same update notification and installed it. Motorola support has NO CLUE what this update is about. What is it?
I just got the notification too. I'm running a Chilean provider (Movistar) ROM, but the update just says 'en.CL'. I unlocked my bootloader a long time ago though via Motorola code IIRC, and to tell the truth I don't remember what precautions to take when receiving an OTA.

Did you lose root after updating? Did you have to 'put bloatware back in' like the sticky says?
No my phone was not rooted
Anyway if bootloader was unlocked so you also can easily downgrade your moto x with 21.7 firmware
But be carefully
Backup your data first
I don't backup any data even contacts and update it [emoji2] and i m lucky

I don't follow... How is it that your bootloader is unlocked, but you are unable to root?
You can still flash a system app and root that way, correct?
I am updating from 222.26.7.ghost_att.ATT.en.US and the zip includes several system library updates and a new modem firmware.
I have an unlocked bootloader and a rooted phone, so to install:
* Boot to recovery (TWRP) and make a backup copy of update zip (/cache/Blur_Version.222.26.7.ghost_att.ATT.en.US.zip) at /sdcard (aka /data/media/0).
* Flash system and recovery to stock firmware in bootloader
* Install the update using stock recovery
* Reflash TWRP and reinstall SuperSU and Xposed

Shabby means his phone was not rooted prior to applying the update, not he lost root or was unable to root.
I would happily take it if it means better battery life root is useless in its current state.
Just got the update notification on the XT1060.
I'm trying to learn how to root this thing, as I've never done so on an Android device. Should I hold off on updating this until after I've rooted?
My brother's wife got this update and now her phone is not connecting to their wifi network, even after several resets and different configurations.
Hopefully the old root methods will be adapted to this update.
Please chime in if you have a similar problem or a solution.

Definitely consider rooting/unlocking your bootloader as an alternative to official releases. You just have so many more options once you've made custom roms available to yourself.
Installed in on my dev edition and haven't noticed any difference.. Probably not a significant update.

Does anybody have the stock zip for this update or know where they're usually located? I've been researching the method CrashXXL used to add root/Xposed/remove bloat, but then Moto dropped this update and I have to start from scratch.

@iscaela posted the instructions to get update.zip file in the first page read but for this you need rooted phone
Don't Ever update your rooted moto X to the latest firmware via OTA specially verizon xt1060
My friend update a rooted xt1060 via OTA to the latest firmware and now his phone doesn't booted anymore Stuck on fastboot with an error of system failure
Now no firmware available right also fail to downgrade waiting for new update firmware
another thing this update have only SECURITY PATCH not any changing but i think patched the root privileges

You also need an unlocked bootloader, which I don't have.
