For 400-500 I would say to go with an Acer computer, while they're not the best on the market they are definitely the best for the price.

+1. I agree.

Only look for hardware. As ur os it comes with isnt gunna matter since developing you would want linux. I nabbed my hands on a hp laptop. 17" i5 open box at newegg. Was 400$ less and it was brandnew in box.

Newegg.com
Newegg or tigerdirect is where to buy. DON'T buy acer, emachines, or gateway. You used to be able to save some money with those brands, but now its so competetive you can find asus, lenovo, and toshiba at the same prices.
sent from "The Other Woman"
Staples pretty often puts out deals to beat newegg and tiger direct.
You can get about an i3 or i5 hp lappy with a 17 inch screen for the mid 400s.
Just keep an eye on slickdeals.net and techbargains.com
You'll fnd something pretty quick.
I also would not buy acer emachines or gateway. Real talk.

bestbuy is always over priced man. newegg, overstock, and sometimes tiger direct has some good sales
Whatever you get make sure to bump up the ram and see what bloatware can be removed from it.
skip the i3 processor ... i5 or better
check out microcenter too...many bargains can be had there...open box/clearance & hot ad deals
Well, since he wants to develop, the first thing he should do is format the harddrive and install linux lol. Ubuntu 10.10 or 11.04... your choice. As far as RAM goes, get AT LEAST 4gigs. Compiling uses cpu, so get at least an i5, gpu... the only laptops with good gpu's are expensive and you don't really need a gpu to compile or dev, so you'll be good with an integrated intel one... don't expect to game out of it though... and lastly get adequat hdd space... like at least aa 500gb hard drive...

That's a nice machine at a nice price, but watch what graphics you get those intel hd chips are kinda cheesy for a lot of online games. I got a lenovo t510 that is very similar and its only downfall IMHO is the intel hd graphics.
sent from "The Other Woman"
for 500 you really cant get a decent graphics card that is good for gaming... so yeah go the asus looks nice.
I've been pretty happy with my Asus n450 OCed to 1850mhz, bought it for $200 on ebay NIB. I agree with tigerdirect.com and techbargins.com to find a good deal...

You don't need an Intel laptop get one with a E-350 which is better than Intel HD graphics. If you do get an Intel laptop make sure you get the 2nd gen Core processors because battery life is amazing. Core i3 2310m or Core i5 2410m
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4134/the-brazos-review-amds-e350-supplants-ion-for-miniitx/1
I'm using a DV6T which has a Core i7 2630Qm and an AMD 6770m runs most my games at mid settings. I like bragging.
You should care about Graphics...
http://www.overclock.net/hardware-news/1042766-nvidia-microsoft-going-all-gpu-computing.html
But if you really don't care about graphics this would suite you well

My opinion lol;
Dell is your way to go. Dell uses pretty decent hardware with little issue from it. the processors are always top I believe only i5s and up now but the best thing is the extended warranty. You will have no issues getting your pc fixed from them if you ever do run into a problem. They send the repair man to my house so no sending the pc off for repair. Newegg is excellent but I don't like not having dells warranty backing it so if your not getting top of the line parts in it from newegg id be careful. Hp, emachine and unfortunately even toshiba now I wouldn't buy because the rate their hw fails. Toshiba used to be my goto brand.

HTC One X 1.5GHz Quad-Core 32GB GSM Unlocked Android 4.0 Smartphone with Beats Audio and 4.7" HD Touchscreen Display
Hmm good deal but I personally prefer the Galaxy Note, and would probably pick the Galaxy Nexus over this too because of the $200 price difference.
I've ordered a Galaxy SII and a Galaxy Nexus from Daily Steals within the last 6 months or so. Oh Daily Steals, why doth thou tempt me once again?
For anyone who bought one in the USA: how much was the total after everything? I imagine there were shipping costs, import tax, etc?

One. Wrong place.
Two. Yes.
Three. Because google sells the Nexus for $400 unlocked, no one will purchase them for more than $350 used. And I don't know why a GS2 is costing you over $350. Look on ebay. they are $250 to $300
Thanks man. These are new phones though. Should i close this thread then?

Nexus 4 now $199

For those looking to upgrade their Nexus S, google dropped the price of the Nexus 4 to $199. That's one hell of a bargain. Especially if you're looking to upgrade at a low price. The phone is still stupid fast and at $199 there's not much reason not to pick it up.
Well I'm gonna hold out till the next Nexus. Its only a small amount of time before they release some sweet info on it.

Well, Nexus 5 should arrive pretty soon.. maybe at November Anyway, it's a nice chance for people to purchase a nice phone (N4)!
Wow! In our country it costs a bit over 500$ Is there a way to order it from google if you are from Europe?
Thanks!
More reasons to wait for the n5
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
I was tempted to upgrade and the price is crazy cheap, but since 90% of my NS usage is listening to music (Voodoo) I would regret it big time.
It would just be an impulse purchase. A new shiny toy to play with for a week or two.
My NS serves me well still. Why change?

No man, it should be 4.3" or 4.5! That would be perfect, although 5" also works absolutely fine!

I'm waiting for N5, hoping in a nice design and hoping it will be not too big...size like N4 is enough and more for a smartphone! Anyway it's my opinion...
