One click rooting method in less than 2 minutes - Xperia Play General

Root your phone without unlocking the bootloader. How? A new application called UnlockRoot does it all for you! Literally, all you need to do is download the UnlockRoot.exe, run it and enjoy your new rooted device. I can confirm that it is 100% working and took about 2 minutes from start to finish.
All you have to do is connect to your computer, enable USB debugging which is accessible through Settings>applications>devlopment>USB debugging
open UnlockRoot.exe and click root, after that it should take the comp. 1 min tounlock then 1 min to reboot then voila you have it rooted! You will then see the superuser app inside your app drawer. I recommend you to download busybox and titanium backup to have full control on your device. I've just rooted my xperia play and my wife's arc s using method. Both of them are running v2.3.4 so this should work on lower versions.
If there will be an instance wherein your device didn't reboot automatically, manually restart your device.

Have fun

Is this in any way better than supetoneclick, zergrush?

I checked out the site and it doesnt say compatible with Xperia PLAY or any SE phones for that matter. Plus I am already rooted and unlocked bootloader. The site looks a little questionable like maybe the software could be virus filled. I dont know though. Only way to find out would be to try it, and for that I have no reason to. IT show support for the Kindle Fire. Anyone try it?

It's put out by AnTuTu, the same people who do CPU Master. They have a link in the newest version of their app.
Probably uses exact same exploits as superoneclick

First of all that is not my site and i'm not a spammer. I only posted this method in two different forums, the other one is in the android general hacking tips. The only reason why i mentioned the site is because i'm having problems uploading the unlockroot.exe launcher in this thread. As you can see,i'm only a new member and i don't usually start threads. I'm just trying to help because i had a lot of frustrations using other rooting methods. I have a descent job and i'm not gonna benefit in spamming so don't accuse me. I just felt very excited to share this method as this worked like a charm for my xperia play. I'm not forcing you to try this so ban me if you feel like doing so.

I noticed that too but trust me,it worked for my xperia play and my wife's arc s. Both of them are running the latest android v2.3.4 that's why i'm very surprised that it worked. Other rooting methods didn't work for that version so i resorted to doomlord's method but i'm having problems installing the adb drivers as i'm using windows7. I'm so happy using this method because it's very safe,no need to unlock your bootloader. Best regards!

No, offense, but if you post directly to their home site, it makes it seem a lot more legit than just posting a link to your download account.

Sorry bro but i already did that when i started this thread. I just edited my post because that d31boy guy is accussing me of being a spammer and just promoting that site.

When I see a brand new poster posting a link to relatively unknown website for use of an unknown exe file, it's hard not to be suspicious. I mean, you obviously know the benefits of root and you know your way around this site. The site has absolutely no mention of how the root is applied (which isn't your fault provided you don't have an affiliation to the site ). It's a pretty big leap of faith.
However, I may have jumped in a bit too quick on this one. It would have been better just to report the post and allow a mod to make a more informed decision. For that, I apologise.

All this method is, is the zergRush method with a different name...
Here's what I did (quick run thought of what i did, attached screenshot for reference)
Downloaded it from the OP's post (http://unlockroot.com was running at 2000BYTES/SEC)
Installed it on my XP partition
rebooted, went to my linux partition
Mounted XP Partition
went to \Program Files\Unlockroot\tools\
Copied rootutility to /home/myusername/
adb shell rm -r /data/local/tmp
adb shell mkdir /data/local/tmp
adb push rootutility /data/local/tmp
adb shell chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/rootutility
adb shell /data/local/rootutility
and got the attachment

[Q] Unpacking system.img from Flyer RUU

Hello Nookers,
Remember that Sense 3.0 Port for Nook Project a long time ago? Well, the thread got closed because there wasn't a full product ready.
I'm almost done with my first working Sense Port, but I just need one more thing. First, lemme explain. These apps fail to works because the dump I used was an EVO View 4G dump, not the Wifi-Flyer's dump. So I have now managed to get a hold of a Deodexed Flyer RUU. I have extracted the ROM.zip containing system.img, data.img, etc. What I need now is a way to extract files from those. I have access to a Mac and PC but if ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY I will install Linux.
Thanks,
King Black Bomb.
Moo
if they are img files you can use IM disk to mount the img file on your PC. then you can access them and remove the files that you need to remove.
Dude, before you got banned two weeks ago, you said this would be done in 4 days, and you are still working on it? This is why you are not considered a credible developer.
You can use winimage to extract img files.

As I agree with the user above about your lack of credibility I'll add some info here for you to try to achieve your task. Attached is the program I use to extract images. ALL YOU DO IS DROP THE IMG FILE ON THE EXE AND IT WILL EXTRACT.
Yes, I did say that, and it was a mistake on my part I thought I would have found the program by then. Turns out a didn't. @xboxexpert I have tried unyaffs it does not work on either Mac or Windows. WinImage? It doesn't work. For some reason it seems encrypted. Same for IMDisk.
why are you even still trying this? HTC HAS MADE SENSE OPEN SOURCE AND WILL BE RELEASED ANY DAY NOW. www.htcdev.com

As I understand it, there aren't plans to make HTC Sense open source. This simply lets you write applications that make use of HTC Sense-specific APIs.
Woohoo, more free lawls! Get 'em while they're hot!

You really need to read his old thread to understand -- in it, I was one of the only members trying to help him... at first. He proceeded to dismiss everyone's guidance -- consistently claiming to know better -- and continued to lie about "progress" for weeks. The extent of his "development" was copying and pasting the Sense apk's into /system... seriously.
There's history here with this clown, so please save your judgments for someone else...
You can try DiskInternals Linux Reader:
http://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/
OK, so you need to extract system.img files. You don't have to install Linux, you can run it from a Live CD. And mount loop the .img file to a folder on your system.
Mind PM'ing me a link to the download so I can do so for you? Then you can go ahead and do the port as you would say?
-Racks
To everyone who says I'm not a dev:
I have been making progress, because at first it was complaining about audio drivers, then files in /system/etc, and it kept on going. Finally, and i THINK this is the last step, is to push Wifi-Only frameworks, apks, and the /system/etc folder.
@racks11479 thanks, but I'll only tell others to do my work if I can't. But again thanks for offering.

Isn't that the particular request you are asking in your OP? This is a developer community, everyone here welcomes help where needed. Not one developer on this forum has ever denied any help when they were stuck on an issue.

Opinion Regarding: Nvflash unbricking released!

Just to warn people about http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14709690&postcount=1
It seems that this tool(.bat file to be precise) COMPLETELY ERASES all of the partitions on the tablet and then creates new ones. I used this flasher like an idiot... there is another thread that has a working tutorial for using nvflash. So, to anyone else who wants to follow this: DON'T EXECUTE download.bat, it will ****up your tf.
Can someone please provide me, and others with a full backup of the transformer? I really don't want to send my tablet to ASUS. Please, this is important. Thanks in advance! ps: pm me i'll provide the hosting space.
Or.. I can try to follow this guide for now.

OP in that topic instructs you to execute download.bat, but doesn't say that you need to have bins inside the same folder. I looked inside and though it will only send a bootloader, so then I can execute backup or restore commands.

You are aware that the guy who made the thread is the one who released the NVFlash tool in the first place right?
I used NVFlash to root. People have mentioned that this wipes and erases everything. You should of read everything before doing it.
I love it when people blame the OP/dev. But everything that you flash/do is YOUR responsibility. No body elses. Let's see you develop something for the TF101. Until then, don't criticize other people's works.
If you watched the video, it tells you what to do including moving the files extracted from Prime .tar.bz2 into the /nvflash/ folder. I'll agree that his instructions were kind of vague but if you really looked into the video, you would of noticed it.

Yea, quick instructions to brick your device. It's his responsibility to post complete instructions everywhere. I shouldn't have to guess that there might be more somewhere linked on the linked website. Is it so hard to warn people to put bins into folder or it will erase everything? As I said, in other thread sending bootloader allows you to execute commands by hand, here it executes automatically and the visual difference between two commands is not apparent.
Dude just redo the procedure with prime in the folder. You can still usee nvflash even if it doesn't boot at all

Man you must be new to Android. You should know that everytime when you do some kind of significant modification to your phone/tablet, there will most likely be a full wipe.
Everything is your responsibility. In the end, YOU'RE THE ONE that made the decision to use NVFlash. You should of done your research before hand. Or at least be a pest and ask before you do something.
Zephik, I think it's not the data that he's worried about. He thinks his device is bricked.

I did this like a moron too. It's OK, your TF is not bricked. Download the prime rom and extract it to the same folder as download.bat and you will be fine. I agree that the instructions could be clearer.
I think this guy is hopeless; he does not understand what he's reading. Could be a total misunderstanding of android concepts, or he is just lazy. He should stick with olpc, i think. Lol...

If you did request for assistance due to your own incompetence, you would not have been at the receiving end of brickbats. Next time, do not throw garbage else it would go back to you.
i agree that there is a bit of ambiguity regarding where to put the rom files [extracting the zip into the same folder, will place them into a subfolder]. Perphaps modify the instructions to make it a bit more clear.
the op is a bit over-reacting though. that thread was brought to you by the people who brough us the nvflash process [and also by the letter M]. a bit less tude would go a long way.

clarification of rooting step by step

ok sorry about the open thread all over but i plan on making a very simple step by step insruction guide once i am successful here so please be patient with me
So here is what i currently have on my desktop i have the shiftrewt.zip and extracted i have individual files named tacoroot.sh and shiftrr.rar this file i realize i don't use until a later time in the proccess.
This is my current position i have the pg06img.zip on the root of my sd card as well as the "misc img". i followed the instructions listed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23895078
so the first thing i did was open terminal and typed adb or what ever i will clearify later when i make a guide. ran the script and showed the adb help lines... so i ran this script following.. adb push tacoroot.sh /data/local/tmp/taco
adb shell chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/taco
adb shell sh /data/local/tmp/taco --setup
YOU NEED TO Hit Vol up + Vol Down + Power all at once after it goes into recovery!
and i get file or directory does not exist so i am confused on what i did wrong does the taco root also need to be in the root of the sd card?? then this follows: however have not gotten this far yet..
After it reboots type:
Code:
adb shell sh /data/local/tmp/taco --root
and then you use
Code:
adb shell dd if=/sdcard/misc.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p17
Pull your battery after you check the md5sum of the img by using adb shell md5sum /dev/block/mmcblk0p17
and then reboot into hboot to downgrade
so the question here is how to boot into hboot? and what options do i select to downgrade.. and after this is finallized i know i run the shiftrr.rar extract and run the shiftrr.exe
thanks for your help i plan on making this a universal guide and will upgrade while i can and i do plan on giveing proper credit to those originators and those that helped along the way thanks
Really nobody????

To many "one-click" programs for other phones have made people not truely understand/know what they are doing. Its a shame.

3> Install it using a File Manager of your choice

posting guides that you've clearly taken from posts elsewhere on the web or even here on xda, passing them off as your own and brazenly pleading for people to hit your "thanks" button is taking the piss.
You've posted guides on rooting, forcing OTA updates, and now installing flash player.
All of these were available elsewhere first, none of the work is your own, and nowhere have you acknowledged the original source of your guides.
Its called plagiarism....either stop posting, reference the original source, stop pimping for thanks or I'll report you to the mods, ok?

WOW....I try to help people and this is what I get, being accused of "plagiarism" First of all I don't copy others post's and secondly how dare you come onto a thread I created for the better good and to help others and you come on here and attempt to give it a bad name? I worked hard on my posts I try to make them as understanding and as easy to read as possible. My OTA update post I created that because JB had only just come out and not many people knew how to get it, I checked there was NO thread as to how to update it there might be now but when I posted there wasn't. Same with my root guide it contains links to files I put together no-body else did, I did. And as for the post on Adobe Flash yes that might have been more known of but it still is a useful piece of information to know. Whats wrong with asking for thanks if you have done something to help others? It doesn't cost nothing and it is just a simple click, it helps to build ones reputation. Please do know you facts next time. Go search I even dare you and find posts that have the same information I put up but before I posted them. MyPhone.gr an online Greek mobile support forum has used several of my posts. Did they give me credit? No they didn't. Do I care? No I don't as long as it helps others I don't care if others use my posts. Please don't come onto my posts again with no beneficial information and accuse me of this and that. I will have you reported.
Good day to you,
AlanS181824

Thanks for notifying me the guide you post isn't a tutorial whereas the one I posted is and I have no idea how to move a thread
Sincerely,

Alan,
I dare Pal.
You post other people's ideas and work and claim it for your own. You should at least reference where you got your information from as its clearly not your own.
The least you're guilty of is being too "unimaginative" to Google and to see that (amazingly coincidentally) there are already almost identical posts already on XDA or other forums (posted before yours) containing your guides.
The worst you're guilty of is claiming the credit for other people's work.
So what's it to be, incompetence or dishonesty?
ps. I welcome the chance to exchange some date-stamped links with the mod. The evidence won't lie > this one posted on 15 July is almost identical to the post you're claiming the credit for yesterday the 25th http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774336

Thank u.
Maybe he is just new and little bit 2 "thanks" hungry, but he definitely needs 2 focus on using search button...
Greg, I wouldn't mind if he just said "hey guys this isn't my work, I spotted it elsewhere, thanks are due too xxxxx" but he just passes stuff off as his own. Its so blatant and he's very pushy on the "thank me"s. I spotted his other threads before and ignored them, but this one is just too blatant and too much, I had to say something. Very obvious after a bit of googling
does the yahoo video chat include with this Flash to have a video call?

[Q] What are some good ways for lazy people to root their Galaxy S3 ?

I found this (Framaroot), but it did not work on mine.
Have you tried this method? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957273

During setup, SuperSU was one of the choices, then there was another with a similar name (I forget what the other option was at the moment.)
That is, assuming I understand your question correctly.
2 exploits that were available did not work. There was even some hesitancy to install it in the first place because an alert said Google recommends you don't install this because it contains suspicious code (not in those words, but you know what I mean.) I went ahead with installation because I didn't hear any negative talk about it after a little searching through the internet.
Questions go in the q&a forum, report your own post and ask a moderator to move it.
Instead of taking the chance of bricking your phone, why not follow the routing guide in the sticky thread?
