Same here, 3.2.1

im using thors rom v14.2 and when i try to watch something from youtube it plays for a couple seconds then buffers alot and its really annoying and dont know how to fix this if its even possible so if someone could please explain that would be awesome thanx in advance

This for me i have noticed that commercial you-tube video works well. End user armature uploaded video is usually what gets lagged. Make sure you log into you-tube with your google account . this does make it a bit better. I Get the same thing on my notebook but of course alot less

it's youtube's server, they have been pretty hammered the past couple weeks. You'll notice that it's slow on any device, even on computer connected via LAN connection.

flash streaming quality...?

It seems that my 10.1 can't even effectively handle 480p streams without skipping. Problem withmy tab or just normal?
Can you give an example of what streams you are trying to play?
I haven't been able to play 720p streams smoothly but I haven't had any trouble with SD streams.
Hmm, wierd. I can stream 720p youtube and other embedded 720p flash streams without any problems :x
same here - might be a tab/OS version issue the OP has
my tab is the IO version - galaxytask 13.1, OC 1.4

Well I guess this is all pointless unless we start giving the specifics here.
I am running Overcome 2.2.0 with Pershoots latest kernel. I have the CPU set to the stock clock speed (1ghz) and the governor set to ondemand.
Youtube videos in the Youtube app play fine HD and SD. Flash videos on Youtube in the browser are a mixed bag. The 480p videos play fine but I haven't been able to find a 720p flash video on Youtube that will play smoothly.
Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atx2856pUos. On 480p flash in the browser it plays fine. On 720p it does not.
i have everything at stock 3.2. The streams I'm talking about are on sites not the you tube app. I think view on the YouTube adds are optimized for mobile devices. Anything higher than 380 on a site stream gives me hiccups.
I have trouble viewing some flash content using the web browser. I watch a lot of Twitch tv streams which play pretty well on 480p 720p is ok but it can stutter/buffer quite a lot at times.
I have encountered a problem with the latest flash update where bbc iplayer doesn't work and there appears to be screen tearing so I've had to downgrade to the pre installed flash.
Wait, which one do you mean? Stuttering can be caused by the tab, but buffering is always due to a slow internet connection.
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
I haven't noticed any stuttering on YouTube, browser or app even in HD 720. Then last night I was trying to watch some Dakar rally on their website, and it was stuttering like mad. Even at 320. Buffer was fine, but like every 2 or 3 seconds it would freeze for a few frames.
The youtube app works fine it's just when viewing flash in the browser that has problems.
I watch videos on twitch TV and the video freezes then plays, I have no idea if this is the internet or if it's the tablet but since other videos play fine I would have to say it's the internet however as youtube videos work fine I would have to assume it is either twitch tv or the web browser.
Edit:
I got in touch with Samsung support about the performance and video problems I'm experiencing and was told to return the tablet to 1 of their repair centres as it "would need a software reset, or re flashing of the Software," Samsungs wording. As there is a repair centre pretty close to where I live I'll be taking it there either this weekend or next week and hopefully they can get it sorted

Cool, let me know what happens after the new fix. Thanks.
Flash is really rubbish. I when I switch to full screen the screen keep flashing. I have to uninstall the update to solve this problem... Any1 experience the same problem?
Sometimes when I switch to full screen I get flashing, or a black triangle part of the screen that flickers. Again, this is just through the browser. I've tried other browsers (Dolphin, Firefox) and still go back to the stock one, I just like it the best.
I can confirm that flash on honeycomb is much lagging than on gingerbread or ics. Before I had Mytouch 4g( single core) and Motorola Xoom and the Mytouch gave me better experience when I watch flash videos. And now,I have sensation 4g running ics and SGT on 3.2. The sensation is the winner when watch flash content.T

[Q] YouTube HD playback constantly buffering

I didn't want to make a thread for this specific issue but after searching I can't seem to find a definitive answer!
Does anyone else suffer from constant buffering with HD playback on the YouTube app and is this something that can be fixed??
Firstly I have a 60Mb/3Mb connection with a good strong wireless signal. We have numerous wireless devices around the house and none of them seem to be affected by this problem. I can have my Nexus 7 within 1 metre of my router and i'm lucky if I can get through 10 seconds of HD playback without it buffering, my laptop however will happily stream 1080p whilst i'm sitting in the garden!?
The Transformers movie on the play store has no problems at all, it plays smoothly no matter where I am in the house. It can even handle me skipping through sections and resumes playback almost instantly. I'm convinced the problem is with YouTube but don't really know how/if i can fix it. I have tried clearing the cache, reverting to a previous version and completely removing it and reinstalling yet the problems persist. SD playback is vastly better but it still has it's problems from time to time.
My device is completely stock running 4.1.2 (upgraded earlier today OTA). Apart from this issue I love the Nexus and don't really have any desires to root at present. I'm 31 with 2 children and my own business so I don't have the time to put into learning it all and keeping up with everything, 10 years ago things would have been very different!
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this was one of the main reasons I bought the tablet.
I have the same problem. It's very embarrassing when you try to show off the tablet to friends :-\

I also get this on most of my devices, seems like a YouTube problem.

Look at post #267. A combination of SmoothROM and Bricked Kernel, both of which I've used in the past and are great, resolved the issue for one user.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32738522
It's somewhat comforting knowing i'm not suffering with this alone. . . This can't be right though surely!?
Whilst trying to fix the issue last night I did manage to stream a full HD 10 min video with no buffering, something that hasn't happened for a while. Strangely it worked right after using the speedtest.net app to test my connection. I don't even know if it's possible for one app to affect the other but the same video had buffering issues minutes before I ran the test. It's probably just a well timed coincidence but I thought it was worth mentioning.
I guess now we have to hope that Google get their act together and fix the site/app. They certainly receive enough in ad revenue, which always play flawlessly

I'm on stock 4.1.2 after a full reinstall, I can't recreate the issue. Out of curiosity can you go to settings > apps > all > youtube and clear the cache, does it help at all?

It's no different after clearing the cache unfortunately, that's one of the first things I tried. I'm guessing the next step is a full reinstall too. I'll have to look into backup options without root, which i'm guessing is pretty limited?
First world problems eh?
Same Problem. I noticed the only way to get the vids to move is to toggle between hd and regarding when it freezes up. Very annoying to say the least. I just use the browser now. No probs.

I thought that I have problem with my router. Guess not. BTW I found "solution" which works for me. As soon as video starts buffering, turn off the screen, then on, unlock and press play on video and enjoy your video without buffering.

no solution, but the same problem. Bugs the hell out of me. My workaround has been to switch to SD which of course is a bit crap. When I get within reach of a wifi connection I'll try clearing cache/uninstalling updates etc. Not keen on rooting and installing new Rom/kernel as a solution to be honest.

Running 4.2 now makes no difference I'm afraid. Cleared cache and data, left updates. Still buffers uncontrollably. That said, the tip earlier tint he thread of turning off the screen, turning it back on and unlocking, then playing the video worked very well. It played HD video for 3 minutes straight with no buffering. Then a small/short buffer (acceptable) and now buffering again for the remained of the video @ 7 minutes. does this lend any information to lead to a root cause? Willing to work for a solution .
I wanted to update my situation seeing as I started this thread.
I recently moved home and changed internet provider and all of my issues with YouTube have gone away. I have gone from a 60Mb down / 3Mb up fibre optic service with Virgin Media (where I had nothing but issues). Now on a 4Mb down / .3Mb up ADSL service with Sky.
HD YouTube videos play flawlessly from everywhere I want to use my Nexus! It's not just YouTube though as pretty much everything that works from the internet is running a lot faster on my device now. I wish I could offer more of a solution but I can only say that I don't think it's a problem with the Nexus 7/YouTube app.
Yep. I found solution in some other thread. You gotta change modem or update firmware on it. I called my ISP requesting modem firmware update, they came and put new modem instead. Even better. Wish I knew about this solution before I bought new router. Oh well...at least now I have dual band so its not total waste of money.
same
So was the problem your modem, router or actual ISP? While my VDSL2 modem is capable of being a router, I have it setup in pass-through (bridge) mode to my DLINK DIR-655 router which handles everything. What exactly in the firmware is causing the slow-down just for youtube on the N7 (and not other computers)?

Video Playback Lags ?!

Hey Guys,
just got my new Nexus and I am very impressed about it. But now I am experiencing a very anoing problem:
I want to use my Nexus to record some videos, but everytime I want to watch them on my phone, it get's laggy as hell.
Playing the Videos on my computer is just fine and everything works just fine...
These problems occured even on stock.
My phone right now (sorry but I cant Upload an image)
Android-Version: 4.3
Kernel: 3.4.0-perf-g90216aa [email protected] #2
ParanoidAndroid-Version: 3.92
I wouldn't rely on the in built player, get mobo player (mobo team one) or MX player... or both
Actually I allready tried all of your suggestions, none worked better (sorry did'nt mentioned).
It's still laggy.

Reboot your phone and check what's syncing in the background.. Settings/accounts/Google, then click the gmail address/s and see what's ticked.
In my Google-Acc, everything is ticked
If you have put lots of music on lately it will all be getting upped to the cloud in the background, I think that's the way it works. Try unticking Google play music.
Yepp, will try it. Though I am not having any music on my phone right now.. :/
I guess it won't be that then. I'll try some vids later, I haven't tested since going to 4.3.
Okay, thanks..
As I already said, it was even on stock like this. Got my Nexus with 4.3 already installed.
Hope it get's better. Has anyone else an idea?
Using stock 4.3 my videos are playing fine. I used es file explorer to stream them straight over my lan, only my 720 mkv files had trouble with no sound but played smoothly at least.
Hmm, awkward... But I am not talking about streaming, and not about mkv-files...
Only recording in 1080p and playback on the nexus is laggy. Same record on PC is fine.

Netflix crashing the whole unit

got my Nexus Player tonight and, while there are definitely things that need improvement, overall it's pretty good.. I was watching netflix with no issue for about 3 hours, then went to get some dinner.. Came back and it was having issues connecting.. error NW-4-8. signed out and back in and it was able to connect, but now, any time that I start to stream something on netflix, it crashes the entire unit.. my tv starts flashing "No Signal" and i have to unplug/replug it.. This happening to anyone else? I haven't tried reseting it to defaults yet, and will try that if it's not fixed tomorrow, but wanted to see if anyone else was having the same issues..
Haven't seen that myself but try clearing cache/data for netflix before resetting the whole box.

ill give that a try.. from the apps menu, right? i dont think i've seen any way to do that from within netflix.

Settings (bottom left icon, looks like a gear)-> Apps, find netflix, clear data.
You'll need to resign in, ect. I had to do this the other night on one of my ADT-1's because I had a similar error, and it wouldn't connect to netflix.
ok, so after doing this, it worked for awhile.. now i can't play anything on netflix at all.. just gives a blank screen when i select something to watch.. the netflix app is crap on the player, unfortunatly.. hulu/plex/ted... all others are working with no issues, but netflix is extremely inconsistant.. such a disappointment for an app that should have been ready at launch.

Same! Netflix works great here.
Both Plex and Netflix have plenty of bugs on Android TV. I'm speaking from my experience on the ADT-1. Neither company has been actively fixing bugs. .. Plex has their forums, but the devs just ignore you.. and update **** no one cares about, like sync, or previews.

I dont mind a bug or two here and there, plex at least works, just like hulu and all the other basic apps from large streaming companies.. But netflix just freaking crashes the unit.. Its fully unusable with no rhyme or reason why. I've uninstalled, signed in and out, tried both 5ghz and normal networks, reset and started over even and its just not working.. And without root, i cant even install logcat to track down the issue in a more logical manner. Whata even more frustrating is that i seem to be alone wih the issue.. The only thing ive noticed is that when netflix tries to load a video, it'll count 1-6%, jump to 63%, then to 99%, then goes to a black screen. Then my screen flashes no signal. If i hit the home button a few times, itll come back to the home screen, but nothing changes... Anyone elae with ideas, pkease feel free to chime in. Im fairly comfortable with adb abd faatboot if that helps..

I have this problem as well, trying to watch anything on Netflix turns the video signal off to the TV, pressing back takes me back and turns the display back on. I'm using an older viewsonic TV so I tried moving the player to a newer Samsung tv and it works fine. So I'm just going to go ahead and point my finger at those DRM demons and blame them based solely on conjecture and sit and wait hoping for a patch or fix. (Netflix plays on the viewsonic fine with Roku and Chromecast, just not the nexus player.)
I'm having this same issue. Is there any resolution yet? The TV will flicker about an HDMI-CEC failure when this occurs, so I'm curious if there's a connection there.
Nope -- no connection. I disabled HDMI-CEC on the television, and Netflix still pretends to load the video and then displays a black screen. Tried clearing the Netflix cache and data, but this does nothing to solve the problem. Netflix worked fine for two days, and now this.
Had the same thing happen with the movie play store movie I rented. . Video would go black and only hear the audio. . I can unplug the hdmi from the tv and plug it back in and it will work for awhile. .. called Google they tried to blame it on the movie app.. and of course while on the phone it works fine. . Call google everyone. .
so, got root tonight and was able to grab a logcat.. looks like it's the HDCP authentication thats breaking, like we all thought.. here's the link to the log info, in case anyone smarter than me wants to take a look and maybe find something helpful (google docs link)::

Yeah -- it doesn't make any sense to me either. I didn't have issues with any of the other apps when I was having the problem with Netflix going black. Fortunately, I haven't had the Netflix problem since changing the HDMI cable several days ago <knock wood>.
Per my post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-player/general/netflix-buffering-issues-t2961438, reinstalling NetFlix addressed NetFlix failing to work at all.
since I started this post, I wanted to post an update.. I never was able to get netflix to work in my setup.. I have my tv, hooked into a monoprice HDMI switch, then into the NP.. no other apps were having any issues at all except for the netflix app.. because netflix is 99% of what I would do on the player right now (seeing as there's very little development for it currently), I've returned my NP. I may grab another one at a later date, if development picks up, but right now, that's a device killing issue for me. hopefully nobody else runs into this issue.

Audio Lag... Anybody else experience this?

I am having about 250ms audio lag on watching any media, be it speakers or headphones, youtube or home server streaming.
I've tried turning on GPU rendering in developer settings, I've looked for alternate audio codecs, wiping the cache and I've tried turning off google now voice listening.
Does anybody else have this problem?
I tried mine and no problems for now but check what kind if players you have installed or software it might be from there ,hard reset .
I noticed this on youtube especially
Let me know if you fixed the problem and how please!
Probably going to need an OTA for that.
Audio lag
I experience the same problem when playing any and all video files. I recorded a video yesterday and that had lag on it too, even when played on a different device. I've emailed ZTE and the address to do it if you feel so inclined is [email protected]
What an annoying problem for an otherwise excellent phone! There are a few other examples of it too so it's not an isolated incident.
A factory reset didn't solve the problem either.
Update: Bluetooth audio is fine...
Same issue here. Sound is delayed about 1/4 of second.
its clearly a software problem since i dont think the USA users have the problem.

It's noticeable on other apps too... Either way wouldn't hurt. I honestly think it's a OS issue since USA have a different version of the OS and they seem okay. ZTE just need to rollout an update fix I think, I've sent them an email about it lets see if they reply. Also the ZTE USA community mod knows about the problem and is trying to get a UK community started!
Bit noticeable on Netflix as well not too sure about this one
I downloaded a movie viewed it on MXPlayer using their hardware decoder and got the sync issue. Switched it to software and wala all was fine! Honestly don't think we need to send phone back or anything they can easily roll out a fix for it
