[Q] First steps to check my new 7.7 is fine - Galaxy Tab 7.7 General

Tomorrow i will receive my Galaxy Tab 7.7 P6800 . The store gives me 2 days term to refund if it has problems .
What should i check to see everything is fine ?
Thanks for suggestions .

If you want to be sure "everything is fine". Simple answer is "check everything".
I normally check for dead pixel first then check:
signal working?
bt working?
wi-fi working?
cameras (+flash)
sound ~~~ (i skipped mics)
and physical condition.

And download a screen test utility to check for bad pixels.

Found from another forum
In dial mode, press *#*#0*#*#*,
there will have self test like LCD, speaker, sensor....etc internal

check for color uniformity on the screen, and visible horizontal and vertical lines on greys.

Wizard Display broken?

Hi guys, I need some help here. I literally threw my wizard out of the window shaking out my bedsheets and it dropped three stories into the backyard.
When I turned it on again (the drop had opened the battery case), at first the screen was bright white, then turned darker and darker showing some sort of noisy stripes (static, not moving). When it goes into standby and is turned on again from there it does the same thing.
some facts:
- there is no visible crack in the display (neither from the side, I disassembled it)
- all buttons and the touchscreen are still responding (u can see that because the background lighting responds to them)
- the wizard is still accessible via usb
- I don't know whether the phone still works because I can't enter the pin w/o display.
It seems strange to me that the display should stop working while the touchscreen and the background lighting remain unhurt. I am thinking about replacing the display (only available together w/ the touchscreen and bg-lighting), but I am afraid that it might rather be a problem with the communication between the main unit and the display, even though there was no visible damage there.
Does anybody have experiences with that kind of behavior of the display?
Is the display that vulnerable that it breaks before the rest (light, touchscreen)?
I didn't find any cases similar to mine in the forum. If there are and my questions would be answered there, please direct me there.
Thanks for the help

Try taking it apart, the force of inpact could have made a connection loose.
Disassembling I disconnected everything possible. Next thing would be to take apart the display/bglight/tscreen.
did you mean that? looks pretty fragile to me...
thx
yeah, I wouldnt mess with the display .. lol .. I meant a connection somewhere inside the device... like a loose ribbon or something
Yeah, seems hopeless. Guess I'll have to buy a new display and hope it works :-(
I'll post again once I got some results...
Problem solved
For the archive:
I exchanged the display and apparently only the screen was broken and the rest was unharmed.
I'd also like to add that two days ago (1 week after I repaired the thing) I dropped a plastic bottle on the phone in such a stupid angle that it broke the touchscreen. the next thing I will report here is whether it is possible to exchange the touchscreen only by doing some soldering.

[Q] whar to look for in a used Nexus 7?

I found an ad for an used Nexus 7 (32Gb) for just 180€ (around $230), and since I wanted one... I'm thinking of buying it.
I'll pick it up in hand, so I'll have some time to look at it and check for defects. My question is what to look for and what apps to use for testing (probably using an OTG cable and thumb drive)
So far I can think of
- Check for scratches
- See if it boots
- Check available space (to confirm 32Gb version)
- Check if OTG works
- Check for dead pixels (use app Dead Pixel Detect and Fix from Chaming Studio)
- Check audio if plays from both speakers (should be enough to go to settings and move the volume sliders)
- Check sensors (use app AndroSensor from Fiv Asim)
- Check Wifi (with hotspot provided by my phone)
Is there anything else anyone can think of?
Check for:
- Screen Lift - with the camera at the top, check the left hand side of the device and make sure the rubber back plate hasn't come away or creaking from the bezel
- 2nd screen lift - very early Nexus 7, the glue of the screen itself came away from the body
- White spot - where the screen was lifting.. some devices would show a faint white glow on the left side (Newtons Rings effect).
- Colour bleed - apart from the Settings Menu > about half way down the full screen, it would show white and colour banding. (Tegra Fault).
In the Settings Menu of every single Nexus 7 ive seen, there is grey banding about half way down.. but not in any other menu or screen. I think this is normal due to the low res text in an other wise high res ppi device, but please correct me if im wrong.
Serial number. It should either start with a C or a D. C indicates 2012, D indicates 2013. digit after letter is the month it was manufactured. This is important because you have a one year warranty on the device, and it is transferable if you buy it used. The warranty will go off this serial number. The serial number will also indicate if it is refurbished or not.

[Q] Galaxy s4 I9505 screen issue

Hello everyone
I just bought a galaxy s4 live demo unit and then i swap the motherboard , everything works fine but i look closely on the screen on white and other bright colors i can see some shadows on the screen with something that was once displayed on the screen , probably this was displayed a long time and somehow was imprimed on the screen , i don't know , i will attach some pictures , it is not so visible on that , but is quite embarrassing , on the upper part of screen it appear big "group play" and some strings , and in the lower part witch is more vissible i cannot read what it appear but is some text too whit some strings , the shadows appear like brighter color on the color that is displayed , i dont't know how to call them exactly, it is any way to resolve this without replace the screen ? why is this happening ?
I think is something common in demo units , i just see another demo with exactly same shadows , probably it is just temporary because both demo units are new with factory foil on them , and the shadows appears with both normal and demo motherboards , is there a way to fix this ?
It is called "burn in" I guess. Not sure how to fix it though...

[Q] I9506 screen color tone problem

Hi all,
A months ago I bought a new, unopened I9506. When i switched on i realized it has a display failure. The bottom of the screen was pink on bright background (1st attached picture).
I took the phone to the service, they warranty replaced the whole front panel.
But unfortunately the new display isn't perfect either. The abnormal pink color ceased, but on the same area of the screen has different (brighter) color tone like above. I took it back to the service again. After a week they told me, that the instrumental measurement values are normal, and compared to other S4's there isn't any difference.
The fact is, the problem not so significant like before, but is see it, and it is annoying. I attached the current state (2nd picture), but my camera isn't good enough to show the problem properly.
I don't want to disassemby in the warranty period and the service won't solve my problem, so my question is there any software solution to balance the tone of screen partly?
And what could cause this failure? Interference of the antenna, or something push the back of the display?
I don't believe the replacement part is wrong too.
thanks
All screens are different...
Try to *#0*# then select "receiver"
Check the white tone..
I don't think it's defected..
I bought s4 3 tines. Every time tone is different. Amoled never same..
It's normal dude..

it is a common issue with after market screens and it has to do with the proximity sensor.
check this video on YouTube "Nexus 4 Disassembly Teardown - Screen & Case Replacement - Drop Test Repair LG E960" -- sorry I am not allow to post links yet
if you follow the steps on that video with regards to the proximity sensor, it would be installed correctly and the holes would line up perfectly between the gasket and sensors. However, that doesnt seem to work, you want to now install with the tab facing the other way, you will now see that the holes do not line up correctly and the gasket is partially covering the sensors, dont panic, that is what you want it to look like. This worked for me and for many others.
