[Q] Question about 3G network (WCDMA)

Hi all,
I'm struggling to get data connection over the 3G network, even though I've got a data plan and the settings seem to be on point.
I'm based in Dubai and I've got a Middle East tab (garbage as the firmware excludes the Android Market), so I've flashed a recent Euro firmware (JIP was the build if I recall)
When I go into network settings to choose 2G/3G/Auto, it shows me GSM and WCDMA as the choices. I'm pretty sure before the flash, it showed GSM and WCDMA. Is WCDMA the same as HSDPA?
The problem could be with the carrier, but I'm troubleshooting at the moment and this WCDMA is a bit confusing.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Have you checked your APN settings? Chances are that the Euro firmware doesn't have the APNs "pre-installed" for your carrier(s). The good news is that you can add them in manually if this is the case.
Regards,
Dave

If your display shows a 3G or H type signal, then your problem is a bad APN setting.
WCDMA is 3G and H on your display, if you have that then you're in good shape.
Search the net or the carriers website for the the correct setting, then create a new APN and data will instantly start to flow.
It was missing the apn setting. Justed typed it in manually and Im hooked up. Although i was bamboozled for a little while as the H didnt apear until i had turned off the wifi.
Thanks for all ur help guys.

Network type selection : 3G preferred.
Network mode : GSM/WCDMA preferred.
same with ROM 2.3, but no 3G connection, only E (EDGE)
You just answered your own question. 3g PREFERRED <<< try to use 3g only?

but in that case if he goes to a place that doesnt have 3g cover he doesnt have networks...
near my home i have so many places where that happens... even got no network at all...
so 3g prefered its the best option i guess...
Yes. Rom 2.3 i have 3g network everywhere. But 4.0 sometime no signal.

First of all, if you haven't done it already, put the "gsm/wcdma" (or something similar, it has to have both of them anyway) setting on mobile networks. If you still can't get 3g, try searching for all available mobile networks. When the search ends, select a 3g network according to your carrier (e.g. vodafone 3g if your sim is vodafone).
i think the problem is with with band.in phone description it sais GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz(2G) - WCDMA 850/2100MHz(3G),but in mtk engineer i can't select wcdma 900 and wcdma 2100 doesn't apear(band for 3g for vodafone) so i think this is motive i can't conect 3g.can i do somthing about that??

[Q] Unsolvable problem with SAMSUNG GALAXY S5's 3G.

Hi,
I am from Bulgaria and I bought a ATT locked SAMSUNG GALAXY S5(SAMSUNG-SM-G900A) from a friend.
At first wasn't able to use my Bulgarian sim card(operator : M-Tel) but then I paid for unlocking code and 5 days later I unlocked my phone.
I put the card into the slot and started the phone. The signal bar was showing full but I was unable to make calls or send messages because of "Not registered on network" message. After an hour of reading the internet I found this code *#*#4636#*#* and then went to "Device Information" and on "Network type I change" it to "GSM only". ( I used the code because in the menu I dont have "Network type" option).
However now I can only connect to GSM network which is the problem because my mobile data is only EDGE NOT 3G. Here I need your help of solving this.
The available option of "Network Mode" are as fallows:
WCDMA prefered
GSM only
WCDMA only
GSM auto(PRL)
CDMA auto(PRL)
CDMA only
EvDo only
GSM/CDMA auto(PRL)
LTE/CDMA auto(PRL)
LTE/GSM auto(PRL)
LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)
LTE only
Unknown
There isn't LTE network in Bulgaria so I am asking how to use 3G on the phone. Should I root it(not pretty sure how to do it) or something else?
I posted my question in Bulgarian android forum and one guy told me to switch to WCDMA prefered but when I do and try to connect the operator M-tel it says Unable to connect.
So thats my problem with the Samsung phone so I would be very happy if someone knows how to fix this and help me.
Cheers!
Ivaylo
1. WCDMA only
2. Manually register to your Network by Settings [Settings>More Networks>Mobile Networks>Network operarors]
3. WCDMA prefered

Just call your service provider and ask them to activate 3G......I had the same problem, they solved it.
I called the operator today and they told me that other user also complain about their newest models of Samsung brought from USA and it's a software problem and to check for a software update. This didn't sound like a good news. Any ideas? Or i should just wait for something to happen.
