[Q] how to get OLD market on cm7 running from sd - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running cm7 from micro sd on my nook color and love it, but i hate the market app. On my rooted htc inspire i was able to download the old market apk for version 2.3.4 and much prefer that one. It's the one with the big green box at the top. Is it possible to modify my rom when it's running from the sd? If so, how would i modify it to run the old market app? I've read some threads about going back to the old market, but it wasn't THIS old market and it wasn't with cm7 on sd. Thanks!

When I was running CM7, I used AppQuarrantine to freeze "Market Updater" and uninstalled the Market update. That left me with the old market version. That was on sd. hth

Yep, Macahs right. That works. You can also do the same thing with Titanium BU. And, FWIW, I found a perfectly usable Market 2.x apk online through a Google search, if your uninstall of the new Market doesn't reinstate the earlier one.

[Q] So... how do we install the new Market?

Some of you will know that Google has released an updated Android Market. The original thread can be found here.
Now, how would i go about installing it on my tab when we still have no ability to flash .zip updates?
download the apk and run it on your tab all done.
Lordao
so i dont need to replace the original?
edit: just replaced the original, works perfectly thanks!
Got the update from applanet
Check the themes and apps section. Already posted the apk and how to install.

Or just wait a few days and it'll update itself automatically.
And if you don't like it, just go into Applications/Manage Applications/All/Market and Uninstall Updates. That'll roll you back to the Market version that was on your particular ROM.
The new Market just ain't thrilling me yet. For one thing, it's bloody SLOW, slow to load, slow to transition, etc. It's also more cumbersome to use, especially when updating applications, the button spacing is a mess, the "more" to see more application info is a mess (they should hide the comments instead), and the recently released "similar" tab is absent.
I'm sure it'll get better, but I prefer to keep the old, fast version for now.
I have a question: when I installed the new market (by launching the APK), it is listed under 'Third party' in Manage Applications. Is this how it really should be (compared to getting the official version from Google in a few weeks)? Not that it matters..
Got mine from applanet. Works like charm. No Hiccups.
I remounted /system rw, and replaced /system/app/Vending.apk. Works like charm.
I have also replaced other Google apps this way (Search, Voice Search, Google Maps and Street View).
Another way to replace your ROM version is to just install the APK from the SD card by clicking on it. Now fire up Titanium Backup and go to the Batch process called "Integrate updates of system apps into ROM" This works real slick and is really easy.

how did you replaced the other Google apps (gapps-mdpi-20101211-signed) . I had download as a folder....the new Market I have already installed and is working, but it was a simple .apk....can you give me some hints? my tab is already rooted. thanks in advance
Today morning opened up market, got notified that a bunch of apps could be updated...clicked update all...marketclosed and everything installed fine...but SURPRISE...the market too has gotten updated to the new one on its own!
Guess google is pushing out a silent update of the market to the devices...huh...

You have to remount your system partition read/write and simply move (copy/delete) the apks from /data/app to /system/app (they have different names in /system/app, so Market is com.android.vending-1.apk or something in /data/app and Vending.apk in /system/app)
Or you can use donate version Titanium Backup to do that.

Question about Market Apps

I run CM7 for the most part on my phone and have purchased several apps from withing CM7.
Well i got the urge to run Stock rom/Stock based rom and there are 2 apps that i purchased that no longer show up in the stock rom. I go to my apps in market and they dont show up.
I do a clean flash of CM7 and set up my google account and they are there...
why dont all apps show up = between roms?

Some applications are not compliant with Gingerbread and do not so up.
for what it is worth....
I had a similar incident with Widgets. I ran the 2.3.3 leaked rom for a few day and was amazed at how many applications had widgets that we not showing up on CM7. And it just comes down to the Developer hasn't reconfigured their app to work with EXT4 ROMs.
Its actually the other way around, apps i can find and use within GB do not show up within Froyo

use Titanium backup then...
or pull the .apk for remote storage.
I shall ty for the advice
Problem with that is if they update my paid apps they do not show up in the market, even with free apps. if i pull apk from my GB rom and load on Froyo.

IF you go to to the Android Market on the web do they show up in the "my downloads" section?
Yes. and if im on a stock froyo rom, or the leaked GB stock rom, i cannot see them on market. or send them to my phone from the market website
Titanium Backup or MyBackup Pro (I like it because it's easier) should help you be able to restore apps regardless of whether or not they show up in the market. Sometimes apps disappear on me, too, and when I search for them in the Market there they are! Weird...

[Q] [7.1 n198] [Nook App] Unable to download Nook App 2.7.2 to CM7.1/n198

I recently installed CM7.1/n198 on an SD card (Sandisc 16G class 2) and have been happy wih everything except one thing.
I am unable to download the Nook App (2.7.2) from the market, which claims I am not installing from a compatible device.
Since this is a clean install (gapps -gb-20110613-signed), I dont believe there is a way to revert my Google Market back to the 'old version'.
How can I get Nook to run on my Nook? It seems counterintutive.
You could try clearing market app data. Settings->Aplications->Market->clear data.
If that doesn't work you'll need to probably change your dpi, theres a couple tutorials around the forum on how to get the market working, most of them just work for some time. Since the market isn't a 100% working with the NC you'll need to do the clear data steps from time to time.

You still got a market update... you can revert to the older market as described by freezing/renaming/deleting marketupdater.apk and going into manage apps and uninstalling updates.

As far as I am aware, the google apps package people are including with the nightly updates is still the old market. Yours may have later updated on its own...
Indeed Market DID update on its own, so reverting (a few times actually) did the trick eventually.
Do we know why the market claims the nook color cannot run the B&N Nook app?

Long story. Just stick with the old market or move up to nightly 200 where the LCD density was resent to 160.

[Q] Installed CM7 on SD

So, I installed cm7 on an sd card, and it works fine. However, when I go to the market there are some apps that aren't showing. I used the latest nightly build of encore, and I'm curious if I should downgrade to the latest stable version to view all the apps. It was my understanding that by using Encore 7.1 or higher, all apps would be visible and I wouldn't have to change the build.properties file. Any help would be appreciated!!!
Hmmm, Market incompatibility was huge but has been resolved for long time ago, I'm surprise that it is resurfacing again.
Anyway, what is the version of your ROM, what is the version of the Market?
Market is...
Market version is 3.4.4 and not sure how to get the version for the rom, this is the one that i used cm_encore_full-253.zip. Thanks for the help, the nook itself is rooted as well, using autonooter, but I did that a while ago. Not sure what version of android it's using.
What apps are missing? Just a few, a specific one or two, or most?
Some apps (e.g. Blockbuster, Google Currents) don't show up at all on my rooted NC or NT, but show on my phone. This is deliberate on their part, and I believe would require a lot of build.prop finagling to overcome.
Other Market problems in the past have been related to screen density, and various workarounds (clearing market app cache, etc.) were required. Those problems should largely be resolved with CM 7.1 n253.
Missing apps
Sadly, the one that my kids want more then anything is Smurfs Village, but it won't show up. Is there anyway to upgrade my rooted nook (using autonooter) without wiping everything? If I can do that, I won't even use CM7. I'd like to, but how hard is it to go from Froyo on a rooted nook to CM7 internal?

You might try some of the build.prop tweaks that are floating around. I'm new to them myself, but they seem to be key when you have certain "hidden" apps like this that only show up on certain devices.

Running CM7, either on SD or internal emmc is not hard, but it can be confusing. Just make sure you've determined what exactly it is you want to do.

It is not hard at all. Just make a titanium backup and then flash CM7 using the guide in my sig.
If you want to update stock then I am pretty sure you need to wipe everything to update. Again make a titanium backup and then restore it after the upgrade and you will be fine.

I just realized I've had a memory lapse. If you've got the app working on another device, try downloading Android Assistant (AA) and making a backup. Then copy the apk that AA makes over to your Nook and try installing it.
I just did this to copy Google Currents to my rooted B&N 1.4.1 install that didn't show it in the Market.

[Q] Android market keeps reverting to phone version

I recently updated my Iconia a500 to the lastest update(unrooted). Since then the honeycomb market first appears when i open it, however if I try to install an app it stays at waiting to install...if I go to my apps from the app it opens it in the pre honeycomb version which is presumably the phone version. After that the honeycomb version is nowhere to be found untill I reinstall it. What might be the solution to this?
Thanks in advance for your help guys.
Has your tablet always been stock and unrooted..
Did you install the new market on the tablet before acer updated your tablet to the new market.if So where did you d/load it from.. There is a market .apk on the internet that has something wrong with it that causes this.. It installs on your tablet. Not replacing the original Market app. This was asked alot back when the new market first came out.
you can go to where the aps are system/apps and see if there is more then one market app. delete them both .
i went into settings then privacy .untick the backup account and automatic restore data this stops google from restoring data files for both market apps .then find a Legit verson of the android market apk..
Do a search on google for this issue to get step by step instructions. I am writing this out of my memory and it could be a bit off.
\
Thanks for your reply, my tablet has always been stock and unrooted, and for as long as I can remember has had the honeycomb market interface. Under manage applications there are two instances of the android market, the honeycomb one which can be uninstalled (uninstalls itself when I open the older version also) and the older version which doesn't have the option to be removed only remove updates.
im guessing the one that you can remove is a app that you installed..
I suggest you backup your files. to sd card..
Go to
settings
Privacy ..
and at the bottom you will see factory reset.. this will reset the tablet to total stock and remove the apps that did not come factory installed..
this should fix this issue.. for some reason a update did not remove the old market app or you installed it not knowing or forgot you did so...
Thanks for your help was hoping there was some other solution....I'm considering rooting it and installing a custom rom like what i did with my HTC sensation... once again thanks!!!
unfortunatley this need ROOT privilages.
Download "Market 3.4.4.apk" install with any File explorer app.
It's tuff to make the Market find outdated apps sometimes!
Doubtful : maybe there is a way to have a "market 3.4.4" made into a .zip file, rename to "update.zip" and boot into your stock recovery and it will add in ROM.
