WiFi: High latency and high package lost - Galaxy Tab 7.7 General

Hi All,
I observed on my Tab 7.7 3G WiFi that it have a very long latency time (up to avg 4000ms) and a very high package lost (80%). This happend only on the internal network, ping to google seems okay (avg 150ms, 4% loss).
SGS2 and P1000 works well on the network.
I reseted my router and the Tab 7.7 without any improvements.
Tested with Android Terminal Emulator.
Please can someone confirm this or better have a soltion?
Thanks.

hello,
yes, you are not alone, i had the same errors with my Tab 7.7.
What helped me:
1: Updating my Router to the latest Labor-Firmware (German AVM Router Fritz-Box 7390).
2: a full Reset on my Tab 7.7
3: Connected in 5GHz mode only!
I'm very happy now with latency and WiFi speed.
BTW: changed TW-Launcher with ADWLauncher EX and the TAB rocks ....

Hi xormaster,
Thanks a lot.
After firmware update to the latest AVM labor version (7390_Labor.84.05.09-21499) the ping into the internal LAN is now quite fast (~100ms). A little bit curious that the labor version runs better than the latest official version. But I'm happy now!
Btw, I am running the TAB with GoLauncher Ex and is pretty smooth, too.

speedtest.net, Opera 10 mobile, HD2 is slower on WIFI than on Tmous?

First I apologize if this has been covered in another post - I searched but couldn't find and if so a redirect would be appreciated.
I'm trying to determine just how fast data can be pushed through the phone and I've run into some problems.
I'm trying to use speedtest.net to do this and it was working with the stock ROM but since I've been trying different ROMs (3 of them in fact) I always get the error "Missing License Key" in he Speedtest.net window.
Anyone have any idea how to fix this?
Since that one doesn't work I've been using the Speedtest.net mini. That at least gives me up and download speeds.
But I've also found that whne I connect to the internet with WiFi the speeds are almost slower than a decent H connection.
It's rare that I get over 3 down /1.5 up on a WiFi N connection that has 20+Mbit Comcast connection behind it.
Here I'd just like to confirm if everybody else is seeing the same thing:
What dl/ul speeds are your seeing with your HD2 connected to a fast wireless router?
On the stock ROM it wasn't much higher than the 3G.
Not for me, I usually get 13-14 Mbps down/ 50 kBps (stupid cable upload speeds) up on wifi and around 1.8 Mbps down/ 1.5 Mbps up on HSXPA/UMTS.
I personally have very little faith in the reliability of numbers from speedtest.net
Try testing this way...use IE instead of opera, and go to www.speakeasy.net/speedtest (it wont run in opera but will in IE). When I use that method while connected to my home wifi, I get the exact same speed my desktop gets using the same dsl source (just a hair over 5MB down), which my 3g connection here has yet to match...usually caps out at around 3MB or so.
I've seen the same behaviour as the OP.
My Wi-fi speeds are slower than my HSPA speeds.
I had same issue as well. I had bsb tweaks installed. I disabled the wifi n tweak. after that both my 3g and wifi speeds went up. Re-enabled the tweak to see if speeds would be reduced and this time only the wifi speeds increased again. tweak must of been causing some sort of issue with the 3g and wifi speeds. Try disabling it, soft reset and than re-enable the tweak. Hopefully it works for you as it did for me.

Which ROM are you using and how much faster is it? Do you see a large speed difference with a different ROM between a fast WiFi and 3g/h?
The only real difference I noticed between the stock and 3 other ROMS I've installed so far is that I wasted a long time trying to get WiFi working in KAOS but never could. I was able to get a connection but the client never reported an IP address. Turns out the ROM I was using was not specifically for the TMOUS HD2 so maybe that was the cause.

My situation is reversed; the cable manages 3mb up on the PC but the 3G/H is almost always much slower on upload than download.

Thanks, that was an excellent suggestion; I hadn't tried this particular site before and while it uses the same data as speedtest.net it also allows a specific destination and works with IE.
In random testing on WiFi I got around 7-8Mb down, 3 Mb up. While driving around the local area I got 5 bars from two different towers and found an average 1.0Mb dl, 0.8Mb up, and that was pretty constant whether moving or stopped.
I've also noticed in general that the "H" only appears whenever data is actually being transferred (sounds like our back-end hasn't been upgraded). Right now I can get neither the speedtest.net nor the mini version to work - the windows just stay white.
I'll keep trying both of them to compare over the next few weeks but I think the biggest part of the problem is Adobe Flash. There is a reason why Apple doesn't support them and I don't think it's all political like Adobe would have us believe.
I've also done some more experimenting with mobilespeedtest.com as well as general testing over the past few days.
Mobile speed test shows that IE seems to be faster/more stable than Opera - by probably 5 to 20%. While the absolute numbers had alot of variability, Opera was unable to complete the 5 MB and 7 MB tests at all; the browser window just remained blank.
The other thing to throw in here while trying to clean up the phone I found the post about doing a hard reset and that also seemed to help. I don't have any solid data but I would certainly hard reset it again and recommend it to anyone that has changed ROMS much or done a lot of installing/deinstalling of cabs.

That certainly jibes with what I found on the stock ROM using speedtest.net.

I don't have BSB tweaks installed currently but I performed the WirelessN tweak in the registry. Based on what you've said here I went back and switched it off, did a soft reset, tested and then back on and retested, and found no dramatic difference between any of them. What I found was a lot of variability between the tests in the same setting - even one right after the other. (I would probably do well to review the wireless router settings to see if I can up the data throughput rate.)
To compare I checked a notebook using N located at about the same distance from the router and got speeds a little (5-10%) faster than on the phone (-hardwired into the router I get 25Mbps down). This tells me the phone is as optimized as it's going to be going through my router.
So on the phone I see final scores of about 7-8Mbps down, 2-3 up, with spikes over 10 Mbps down and 4 up during the tests.
Deeted - error post
I tried "mobilespeedtest.com" and get around 1100-1300 kbps on wifi and the same or more when wifi off and using t-mobile (with "H" showing, not 3g).
speakeasy/speedtest on wifi 3421 kbps, off wifi , 3569 kbps (3.57mbps)

No, Not on the Stock ROM.
Like Opera Mini and Skyfire, I think Opera Mobile 10 goes through an external server. One cannot get an accurate speed test that way. Use Opera 9, or better IE, as it works with flash speed tests as well, not only the mobile ones.

noticed the browser is faster really, on Xda is really a big difference.
noticed the wallpaper picker is better, showing a kind of frame (visibility of the picture on the desktops)
noticed the wifi icons show now the traffic (2 little arrow up and down)
noticed charging battery bugs gone (now updated as should be, no more 1% and unplug and see 100%)
noticed resizable widget (mail, calendar...)
noticed widget weather updated and fixed, now the city is not crop anymore.
noticed a smooth improvement of speed when using globally.
Bugs from old and new
- no auto update of the sdcard content when plugin...
- a small weird bug (text) on the status appear (I got a thai character hahah)
- have to clean data and force stop the ACER CONTENT application, to can launch them (one time only)
Looks good. Thanks for the pictures. Has anyone in the US tried 3.1 with a Verizon aircard? I would like to know if it works OK. Thanks.
Hey is the cell standby still present? It was rumored that this issue will be fixed with update

I have the same modem, but I want to know if 3.1 supports it directly plugged into the USB port. It would be nice to have native 3G support and then I can downgrade my phone to being a phone. Right now I use it as a wireless hotspot to access the Internet when away from the house. Take care.

That would be nice, though I can't imagine how fast the battery on the A500 would drain down powering the USB modem at the same time...
That said, this router is really good. Wireless N support, battery operation for 2 hours if needed. Also can be used to make a hotspot with any other USB stick or even share out a DSL or other wired LAN. Well worth the $50 I paid for it.
Thanks for the pics.
Does 3.1 have Handwriting Input for Traditional Chinese? Can you look under the XT9 input settings?
Interesting how the kernel version is still the same.

[Q] Low WIFI performance

Hi, i noticed recently that my wifi speed seemed poor so i did a few test.
-max dl speed is 0.6-0.7 Mbs on the same router weher my wife's Chacha gets 4-10 Mbs;
-the last recording in the bandwidth app shows i was getting around 4 Mbs (about a month ago).
I don't know what happened.
OS: 7.10.7720.68
FW: 2424.11.9.2
HW: 3.15.0.4
Radio sw: 2424.11.9.1
Radio hw: 0.0.0.800
Dose anyone have any ideas?
Thank you!
P.S. i haven't tried a hard reset as i don't want to loose all settings, messages and applications.
EDIT:
I tried deleting some of the wifi settings from my phone and also the settings for my connection.
The first 3 speed tests showed 5-6 Mbs and i thought i fixed it... Sadly it isn't so... the speed dropped back to 0.6-0.7 Mbs. And deleting the settings again didn't fix it.
I am running out of ideas... Please help!
Bump...

This may be the old wifi/ mobile data bug which has been raised many times... try disabling mobile data and doing the test again.
I have excact same problem. 0,5 - 0,8 Mbps wifi, 4-8 Mbps on 3g... Youtube is useless on wifi.
My another phone Samsung Galaxy S gets almost 30Mbps on my home wlan.

Close, but no cigar.
It's probably the combination of the router incl. software and the phone. For whatever reason the negotiated transmission speed between the router and the Omnia is 1Mbps which explains the 0.6Mbit.
This is exactly what happens to me and it has nothing to do with 3G on or off.
You can try the following:
1) If you happen to have a Windows 7 computer with a wifi card you can make it an access point. Make sure your card used 802.11g only, then connect with your Omnia and your speed will go up to 5Mbps or more.
2) If you happen to have a router with dd-wrt you can try forcing the transmission speed to a fixed value. For me 9Mbps works best on my old Linksys WRT54G
So there's still hope.
Good luck.
Ive got ddwrt on my dlink dir-615, and even with static speed I get crap speed on my Omnia 7, which I didn't prieor to Mango. And saying that the design og Wifi (transfer rate negotiation) is part of the problem is just silly. It is the phone that is the problem, no doubt about that Thanks for the tip anyway!
I don't wanna argue whether this is silly or not even though your statement slighty annoys me, to be honest. Having said that, try setting
Network Mode: G only
Channel: 6
Basic Rate: All
Transmission Fixed Rate: 9 Mbps
Frame Burst: Enabled
RTS Threshold: 2270
Preamble: Short
Shortslot Override: Short
The above works fine for *MY* Omnia, maybe not yours. With the above settings I get around 5Mbps instead of 0.6Mbps, tested on two different Linksys dd-wrt routers.
There seem to be two kinds of problems. There are those Omnias where wifi is only fast when data is turned off and others where wifi is always slow (like in my case)
And for me the transmission speed is 1Mbps as I can see on dd-wrt even though I'm 2 ft away from the router. Whatever causes it, the transmission speed should be a little higher, shouldn't it?
Anyway, good luck.
No more wlan speed problems with Lumia 800 With Omnia 7 i had to disable mobile data to use wifi with proper speed.
Sent from my Lumia 800 using Board Express

Apart from the OS version (which is 7.10.7740.16 on my device),
I have exactly the same issues and the same versions for
FW, HW, Radio sw and Radio hw.
All devices connected to my fritzbox 7330 are shown using 54Mbtit, Omnia 7 connects with 1-2Mbit. however, browsing feels smooth and Youtube is running without interruptions. Bandwidthtest on phone shows 0.5 Mbps mostly.
The interresting thing is, that in the firm I can get it up to 2.1 Mbps.(Guest Wifi, running WEP encryption). A Galaxy S connected to the same WLAN shows 10Mbps.
Setting my home WIFI to WEP temporarily had no effect however, the phone keeps connecting with 1 MBit.
Looks like a common issue though. Maybe related to radio S/W version?
Any ideas appreciated.
Cheers
Mike
I compared once wifi performance between my Omnia7 and friend's Galaxy S.
Unfortunately, it seemed like Galaxy S is snappier and had better reception. Well, maybe this will be improved with some new Samsung drivers, who knows...

Wifi Speed

Hey guys. Hope you guys can help me out here. We have Wifi at our college and I use Redmi note 3g and my friend who sits right next to me has redmi note 4g. My friend who has note 4g has higher download speed than me in everything(play store, torrents, browser downloads, etc) while mine is very slow. When downloading apps in play store he gets around 2mbps while I get around 30kbps. Another guy who sits two benches in front of me who uses note 4g gets the same speed as my friend. When I checked their wifi options they had an option in advance settings where they can change their wifi band while my phone doesn't have that feature. Other phone users get same speed as me. The guy who sits in the bench ahead me uses iPhone 5s and he has download speeds same as me(around 30kbps). So why do note 4g users have high download speeds than note 3g? Is there a way by which I can get the same download speed as they do?. The wifi router is around 10m away from me. Me and my friend use the latest miui 7 versions.
bro wifi limited speed happened often after flashing a new rom and somtime no happened , but if it happened whats the solution?
i do this :
1.wipe dalvik cache
2.pull out ur battery and turn off the modem for 30 min
3.cut off the lan wire from modem
4.turn on ur phone
5.turn on the modem(ur phone should connected,no more device, just ur phone)
6.it will be ok

[Wifi Issues] Not what you may expect

Hi all, just picked up a Tab S5E today - love the screen, built quality etc. What I don't love is the Wi-Fi performance. I'm left very confused.
I installed Android 10 right out the box and did a clean reset - after which my link speed in Wi-Fi settings shows 86 mbps throughput. For reference, my other phones (Oneplus 5 - 3 years old and Oneplus 8 Pro both show 866mbps receive and transmit speed).
When right next to the router I get a max of about 150mbps, with an average of 80mbps on Speed Tests - This is the case whether holding the tablet or not. When about 5 metres away through a wall this goes down to 45-55 Average, in comparison both phones show around 280-330 average.
When right next to the router with my other phones I get my networks full download which is 550mbps.
I understood before purchasing that if holding the tablet in the bottom left corner when in horizontal position (camera on the left) you are likely to lose signal - potentially mitigated with using a case. However, by wrapping my hands round the left antenna, on average - the speed increases to around 150-170 - odd...
When attempting to put pressure on the antennas from both ends and firmly wrapping my hands around the tablet, I do not see any network connectivity issues relating to dropouts and the WiFi bars remain on 5.
Honestly not got a clue what's happening here, either who have decently fast connections don't big this up online, or this is just a weird hardware fault with my unit.
Pretty disappointed. If anyone has any advice / screenshots of their speed results higher than this - I would greatly appreciate this, in which case I will definitely pursue a replacement device. I can't accept that in 2020 a device cannot achieve full 5.8ghz WiFi speeds when directly next to the router.
There is nothing wrong with your device. The maximum WiFi speed on the Galaxy Tab S5e is around 160 to 180 Mbit/s. I didn't expect this either when I bought this model and it is also a major bummer for me.
The device supports 802.11ac, but unfortunately Samsung only put a single antenna into it which limits it to a single MIMO stream (on a 80 MHz channel that gives you theoretical 433 Mbit/s throughput, which of course no device will ever reach). I would expect something around 220 Mbit/s with this configuration, but somehow the maximum speed I get with this device is only around 160 to 180 Mbit/s. It is not only the speed that is bad, it is also the signal strength that is exceptionally bad compared to all my other devices.
Your phones and other devices probably have two antennas and support 802.11ac with 2x2 MIMO which gives you theoretical throughput of 866 Mbit/s and around 500 Mbit/s in practice.
Thank you for your reply. I just received a replacement unit and tested before updating to the Android 10 update. There was indeed something wrong with that previous device as the link speed shows 433mbps and I consistently got 280-295mbps download.
However, I just updated it to Android 10 - now it's completely gone again. Link speed 87mbps and downloads of 20-70mbps. This is most definitely a software issue which I'll be contacting Samsung about.

All I can suggest is to create a bug report in Samsung members app. I did so over 10 days ago now and am awaiting a response. The more people that do so the better - a fix needs to be rolled out for this. Something's quite wrong with how the WiFi module is working after this update, probably driver related.
Has anybody tried wiping the cache partition in Recovery Mode? If that doesn't help back up your device and perform a Hard Factory Reset. That normally fixes any software issues.

With both the tab s5e's I've had I had reset them both twice, and cleared cache in recovery.
This is definitely an issue brought about with the update considering Android 9 was absolutely fine network wise.

I disagree, this is definitely a new problem that was introduced with the recent Android 10 upgrade. Samsung made the Wi-Fi signal "more stable" by limiting the modulation type to QPSK (MCS-2) instead of 256-QAM (MCS-9) which effectively caps it to 87,8 Mbit/s on a 80 MHz channel. Instead of 180 Mbit/s with Android 9 (which was pretty bad), users are now getting around 50 Mbit/s (which is incredibly bad).

Thanks for doing the research to find this out. This definitely explains exactly what I'm seeing.
Very disappointing as I was achieving fine speeds 290mbps or slightly higher prior to the update. Now WiFi on the whole is pretty poor in comparison.
Why was this done intentionally - it really makes no sense. Surely this must get reverted.

I can confirm this update has fixed all issues for me. Normal 433 link speed when next to the router and the same WiFi download speed as on Android 9.
Since updating to Android 10, I started having issues with mesh wifi (I'm using Google Wifi). Same position and setup that used to work perfectly with Android 9, now the table starts disconnecting from Wifi and I have to reboot to reconnect. Anyone else has this issue?
I'm contemplating buying an S5e tablet (in Australia). Does the reduced speed of WiFi impact on any practical applications ? My internet cable subscription is for 50mbps. It used to be 100mbps, but I dowgraded on purpose, seeing no benefit for the cost. Even at 50mbps (practically 46) we have moments like today when both myself and my son are working remotely to different employers, while my wife us watching a video. I realise there could be apps which require more bandwidth, so I'm just curious what those might be.

Since updating to Android 10, I started having issues with mesh wifi (I'm using Google Wifi). Same position and setup that used to work perfectly with Android 9, now the table starts disconnecting from Wifi and I have to reboot to reconnect. Anyone else has this issue?

That is exactly my problem as well. Google WiFi and random disconnects from the tablet that sometimes get fixed by disconnecting/reconnecting but majority of the time a restart is the way to solve it.
No other device in the household gets disconnected from the network (neither was the tablet before upgrading) so it is definitely the update to blame.
Having similar issues following the update. I tend to turn the tablet off when I'm not using it, and thus far I have yet to successfully connect to WiFi on startup. I have to manually toggle WiFi to get it back on.
Same wifi issue here after updating to Android 10. Is there a way to manually update using file some were receiving in late July?
I am really bothered by this GROSS limitation too! It makes issues with the driver even worse.
Maybe our answer can be found on this page or something or nothing ?
