[GUIDE] How to setup A2SD WITHOUT flashing a fresh ROM - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

After an hour or two of frustrating googling and thread sifting I managed to successfully setup A2SD to increase internal phone memory without affecting my current ROM and installed apps/data/settings. I thought I'd put together a clear and simple guide to save anybody else the pain and because I feel I owe the community for all the awesome ROMs and hacks my HD2 has been subjected to over the past couple of years!
Update: If you want to upgrade your ICS ROM rather than fresh install and maintain this A2SD script then see here
How to setup A2SD on the HD2 without flashing a new ROM and maintaining all apps, settings and data
1.) Copy the contents of your SD card to a PC so it can be restored later. Before doing anything like this I always make a backup of my current ROM using CWM recovery and you should too! Please search XDA if you are unsure on how to do this. There are other ways to back up your SD card and apps and tools that will do this for you but this is the easiest and most foolproof method.
2.) Reboot your phone into recovery. If you have MAGLDR then when your phone is off, hold power button until you see the MAGLDR menu and select option 8 for recovery using the volume buttons to scroll and call button to select
3.) Still using the volume and call/back buttons to navigate the menu, select ADVANCED and then PARTITION SD CARD. Select your ext partition size. 1024 seems a healthy size big enough for most people. I have read many warnings about using 2048 and above so I recommend only going as big as you need to. Select 0M swap and continue to partition. Please be aware that your SD card will be formatted so make sure you paid attention to step 1!
4.) Now you need to flash the script that will make this partition wizardry happen. Download 40ad2sdx-a2Recovery.zip and save to your PC. From the CWM recovery main menu, select MOUNTS AND STORAGE then MOUNT USB STORAGE with your phone plugged into the PC. Windows will recognize your phone as a USB mass storage device so you can copy the script (40ad2sdx-a2Recovery.zip) directly onto the SD card. Once copied, press the call button on the phone to unmount USB storage. Now, back to the main menu and select INSTALL ZIP FROM SD CARD then CHOOSE ZIP FROM SD CARD. 40ad2sdx-a2Recovery.zip will be the only thing in the list so select and install it
5.) To complete the setup of the script you need to fix permissions. Once again, CWM recovery does all the hard work for us so from the main menu simply select ADVANCED and then FIX PERMISSIONS
6.) Ok. The A2SD virtual internal phone storage is now setup but before you reboot the phone, you need to restore the contents of the SD card so that Android doesn't try and set up the SD card from scratch and inevitably cause issues with your apps. As in step 4 connect your phone to the PC as a USB mass storage device and copy the SD card backup you made in step 1 back on to your SD card. This may take a while depending on how much data you have. 4GB took just over an hour for me. Once complete select UNMOUNT on the phone
7.) Now for the moment of truth... Keep your fingers crossed and select REBOOT from the recovery main menu. If all went to plan everything should look exactly as it did when you left it. Go into SETTINGS/MANAGE APPS to see your shiny new internal storage size and no more complaints from Android about your internal memory being low.
8.) We're almost there. Although everything should now work perfectly and your internal memory has increased you will most likely find you have the low sound issue where media played from the SD card is very quiet. To solve this you simply need to fix permissions one last time. Boot into recovery as in step 2 and select ADVANCED and then FIX PERMISSIONS just as you did in step 5. Now reboot and enjoy!
WARNING
- This guide assumes you have recovery etc. installed (see my signature for the specs that worked for me)
- I have only tried this with tytung's NexusHD2-ICS-CM9 V1.2 so I cannot promise it will work with other ROMs although I don't see why not. Be aware that some ROMs are already DATA2SD enabled and will not require an additional script - do your research!
- I have written this guide with the intent of helping a few lost HD2 users and it's merely based on my experience. I hold no responsibility for you bricking your phone or any other damage caused
- I am not a DEV but a ROM dabbler; I did not write this script and can only thank the guys responsible for it

This will make the above procedure a hell of a lot faster!
Here is a link to the Minitool Partition Wizard download

Additionally to using MTPW, format your SD with SD Formatter (to have it really nice and clean) and do all your operations with a SD card reader on your pc to make things even more faster
Plus, I think CWR only formats in ext3, not ext4 (which seems to be better)...
More info plus some other scripts in the Tytung Nexus CM9 wiki quoted in my sig.

Thanks for the tips, SD Formatter looks like a good idea.
I really need to find my mini-SD to SD adapter!
I have had no issues with ext3 so far, does anybody know the benefits of ext4?

The whole procedure is much more simple that it seems like in the guide (very good guide also).
I did use the same script and it works perfect.

You should add another step that includes rebooting into recovery and fixing permissions a second time to fix the low volume issue. Aside from that thats the best guide on this subject I've read so far. Lets hope this will be a help to people switching to ICS roms without included Whatever2SD.

Thanks, you're right about adding a step to cure the low volume issue. I will do that as soon as I get back on a PC.
All the guides I found before this were unnecessarily complicated and misleading. I hope this helps a few people

Thanks, worked for me!

As said, worked OK for me, but had low sound bug after that. Fixed permissions as you told and it was OK until next reboot. After reboot low sound was back.
Solution for me was to fix permissions twice.
1. Power off
2. CWM recovery and Advanced -> Fix permissions
3. Power off
4. CWM recovery and Advanced -> Fix permissions
5. Power off and boot
Now even after reboot low sound is not coming back.

Coincidentally I updated the above guide explaining that you will need to fix permissions twice to avoid the low sound issue about 15 mins ago. See the final 'step 8'
Please can I ask you to have a quick look and confirm these steps make sense?
Thanks

Yes, I think that doing it second time right after the first boot might do the trick also.

How to upgrade your ICS ROM.... properly!
I had some trouble upgrading from 1.2 to 1.3 because I was trying to use WinRAR to insert the script into the zipped ROM and CWM kept erroring.
7-zip seems to do the job perfectly so once again, feel free to learn from my mistakes...
How to upgrade your ICS ROM and maintain amarullz script
1.) Back up current ROM and apps however you want. I recommend a backup of the ROM with CWM and a backup of the apps with Titanium Backup. You can also copy the entire contents of the SD card to a PC for a fool proof backup. This is only as a precaution in case all hell breaks loose!
2.) On your PC unzip the script 40ad2sdx from 40ad2sdx-a2Recovery.zip or download the attached file from this post and unzip
3.) Open NexusHD2-ICS-CM9_V1.3.zip with 7-zip (Google and download for free) and go to folder system/etc/init.d/ then drag and drop the unzipped file 40ad2sdx to the opened 7-zip window then close 7-zip
4.) Copy the modified NexusHD2-ICS-CM9_V1.3.zip to the phones SD card
5.) Boot into CWM and install the ROM. There is no need to wipe cache or dalvik cache
6.) Reboot and relax

I am a newbie I don't know where to click on the "Thanks" button. so again, this thread did help me and work very well.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble but as stated I have only tried this on ICS ROMS CM9 by tytung V1-4.
I have not tried installing this script on a Gingerbread ROM such as coredroid v3.7. In fact, I never found the need for more internal memory when I was using Gingerbread ROMS.
On the coredroid thread it says:
"Can we use A2SD?
All CoreDroid builds use EXT partition to use as DATA USER and use some parts of SYSTEM. This was chosen this way cause it makes the build faster. You can always use APPS2SD from MARKET to save a little more space on Phone storage if its not enough for you"
This suggests to me that all you need to do is create the EXT partition using CWM and you're good to go but please do some XDA searching first
Good luck

If you are referring to this ROM here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275119
Then you do not need the script from my thread. It looks like ext partition support is included and mandatory from version 3.2 onwards. Please see threads specific to your ROM but as in my previous reply it looks like all you need to do is create an ext partition and you're done.
Please search XDA to confirm this as I have not used that ROM
Good luck

Tutorial: Dual Boot WP7 and Android + Magldr Builds + More To Come...

Thread update.
I am now working on providing tutorials for the following.
One card method - I am looking to improve this if I can.
Two card method - This is for micro SD cards over 8gb. There seems to be issues when using 16gb card with the one card method so I am now extensively looking into this to provide tutorial to make larger Android partitions than WP7 if you wanted (As WP7 takes the largest partition with the one card method)
Android SD Magldr Builds - More support and more intuitive tutorials for setting up all known SD Magldr Builds.
I am also looking into alternative ways to the above. I have lots of ideas and theories to improve speed, functionality, setup and configuring you PC/Laptop for convenience to performing the 2 card method, not just for now but for when you do this again in the future. For example, you may wish to install the latest WP7 ROM. The tools are already included in Windows operating systems later than XP. I am now experimenting this and so far, it looks good.
If there are any requests on what else I should provide support or tutorials for, the please feel free to leave you comments either by private message or through this thread.
Please be patient with me as I am trying out the above to make it as clear and hassle free as possible. I have learned a lot from Xda and this is my way of giving back and helping others.

In this thread I have put together a tutorial on how to dual boot WP7 and Android using the one card method. To use Android, the build must be one that has been adapted to work via Magldr. Builds which has been kindly adapted by zarathustrax are on Post 2 so please show your thanks to him for taking time to convert them for us to use.
This tutorial presumes you already know your way around Magldr and know what buttons to press to select etc. If you need any help then let me know. I will help the best I can but cant always promise to be online. The tutorial recommends you use a SD card reader instead of Mass Storage in Magldr as Mass Storage is not always reliable.
1/ Download a WP7 and Android Build (Maglrd Build) you want to use.
2/ Run DWI.exe to install WP7 to your phone.
3/ Go through the setup and once it tells you that you have a new SMS which is welcoming you to WP7 go to Settings - About - Reset Your Phone and once phone restarts hold power to enter into Magldr.
4/ Remove SD card and insert it into the computer.
5/ I used Minitools Partition Wizard which you can get HERE, the Home version is free. Start the program and you will see two partitions on your SD card. Right click and delete the largest partition, this will leave you with Unallocated partition.
6/ Now right click the Unallocated partition and select Create. Leave 'Create As' as Logical and 'File System' as Unformatted. Under 'Size and Location', slide your Unallocated space to the right to roughly half the size of your SD card so the blank grey area is on the left. Click OK.
7/ Now click on Apply (The tick) and when it comes up saying Successful (This may take a while), remove your SD card and put it back into your phone and shut down Partition Manager.
8/ Boot up WP7 and go through the setup again. Once the message beeps again to say welcome to WP7, go to Settings - About and look at the 'Total Storage' and 'Available Storage'. These values should now be roughly the same.
9/ Hold Power button to restart and hold Power to enter into Magldr. Remove SD card and put it back in your card reader. Open Partition Wizard again, right click on the 200MB Other partition and select Delete. Right click on the new Unallocated partition and select Create. The File System should be Fat32 and set as Primary. Click Ok and Apply (The tick).
10/ When all the changes has been applied click OK and right click on the Other partition and select Modify and then Set Partition As Primary. This is important to run Android as well as WP7. If Partition were still Logical then once Android Build was loaded it would not recognise anything off your memory card . Put the SD card back into your phone and boot WP7 and exit Partition Manager.
11/ In WP7, go to Settings - About and double check the Total Storage and Available Storage to see if they are the same as before, they should be except the one should now be 200mb larger.
12/ Power off and insert SD card back into your card reader.
13/ This time start Computer or My Computer depending what version of Windows you are running. Move the Android Magldr folder to your SD card and read the instructions to set boot settings in Magldr. This time I will Boot MarkinXHDExtraClean Magldr Build but DL Desire Magldr build worked for me just as good as Nand. You can also use one of the builds in Post 2.
14/ Once Android folder has been copied, remove the SD card and put it back into your phone. When in Magldr, press the volume buttons up and down until you get to Services - BootSettings - AD SD Dir. For MarkinuXHDExtraClean Build the zImage and initrd.gz are on the main directory of the SD card so select <->. Always read the chefs installation instructions.
15/ You should now be in the main Magldr menu. Press vol buttons and select Boot AD SD.
Congratulations.......you know have WP7 and Android dual booting on your device. If this tutorial helped you, then please hit the Thanks button.
I'm beginning to turn this post into a collection of the builds that I've edited to work with magldr to dualboot with wp7. I am keeping these builds in my dropbox for quick and easy download... just right click the download link and select "save link as". I am just including the entire build for most of these for convenience, because some of the builds needed the init.rc file edited after the build was booted up once, as there were updates and files that get installed on first boot and the init.rc file was changed back to normal... so all the builds here have any updates or files in a root folder already installed, so they are all ready to go... just unrar and copy build folder to root of sd card, and be sure to tell magldr which folder to boot android from. Most builds include a new 1gb data.img or they create one on first boot, in which case it may take 5-10min.
All credit for the builds go to the chefs of each build... all I did was modify the init.rc file so it could be successfully booted with magldr. If any chef does not want me posting a download link of your build here, and would prefer I just post the edited files or not post anything about your build at all, please pm me and I will remove the link immediately. I am not trying to take credit for any of these builds... I am just trying to make it easier for people to install and run.

Darkstone SuperRam Build and Sense RAM build Edited by LeTama This is not edited by me, but by Letama. I am putting links here for easy download for convenience and so all the edited builds can be collected in this one post. These builds will take a couple reboots sometimes before they fully boot up, but once you get them fully booted and going, they should boot up everytime afterwards. DS SuperRAM 1.5: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10979883/DSsuperramMAGLDR.zip DS SuperRam SENSE 0.1: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10979883/darkstone_ram_sense_magldr_sd.zip
Remember, to download, just right click link and select save link as.
I have more edited, and will be adding more to this post as I get time to organize the post and builds and make space in my dropbox. If you have requests on what builds I should add next, or have any questions, feel free to pm me. I have gotten most builds I have tried working well booting from SD with MAGLDR. ENJOY!
ALSO.... I've had a few problems recently with my computer corrupting some of my edited rootfs.img's... I think all of the one's listed so far are ok, but if anyone has a problem with any of them running, please pm me and let me know so I can fix it. I'm re-editing some more builds soon, so I will add the rest of the builds I've got running to this post soon.
Very nice tutorial and easy to follow. I had problems before when I tried it and almost gave up.
Thanks
I used the original posted guide to get mine working, albeit I struggled initially due to not reading it properly. If your new guide helps more persons to get WP7 and Android dual booting then that is great BTW I am using this CM7 Gingerbread build on my android partition and it works great, just need to follow the additional instructions in the install folder for getting it to boot via MAGLDR http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=898831

Thanks for your feedback and I have to agree that with the original tutorial, I did struggle with it myself. Also it shows a few ways to do it. The one is a very long process copying one partition to another which dont apply for most people.
I posted this to try and make it clearer and easier to follow. I also focused on using only application for partition management where the original told you to use two.
Thanks for letting us know about the CM7 Gingerbread build. Most builds can be modified in a Linux Distro where just editing one line will make the SD build boot in Magldr.
Thanks so much for the guide and the Android Rom recommendation.
I got a question...
I got Android successfully booted, however under Android environment, it says no SD card is present. I'm using the DL Desire Magldr build.
Do I need to make another partition???
Any help is appreciated
Thanks!
out of curiousity,
Can the both of them share the same set of media files? or do you need two sets of it, one for the android partition, one for the WP7 partition.

You forgot to change the wp7 partition from logical to primary. That will solve that.

No, they can't share files. WP7 only reads it's partition and android only reads it's partition.
That's why I like to use dropbox with both of them. I can keep music or files in my dropbox and access them easily from both OS's. There's several dropbox apps for both wp7 and android. It also makes it easy to transfer files to my phone without having to hook it up to the computer or take the card out or deal with zune. Use my referral link below in my signature to get an extra 250mb added to the initial 2gb you get for free when you sign up and install the dropbox app to a computer.

Thanks for taking time to answer the questions in my thread. I normally would have been around to answer them myself except I am doing a very long and painful task of backing up over 150gb off my hard drive before I restore my notebook to factory settings.

The answer to the question and the how to is in the tutorial above. I have copied it for you for your convenience.
Make sure you have switched off your phone because you will loose info if you just extract the SD card in WP7, insert SD card into a card reader on your PC. In Partition Manager.....
'Right click on the Other partition and select Modify and then Set Partition As Primary. This is important to run Android as well as WP7. If Partition were still Logical then once Android Build was loaded it would not recognise anything off your memory card.'
Thank you I'll be trying it soon

No problem... I was very active in the other dualboot thread, too. You did a good job writing this tutorial up, so hopefully there won't be too many people confused, but I'll be around to help answer peoples questions, too. I figure once a thread is public, it's up to everyone who knows to help everyone out who's having problems... that's what this community is about... plus the more people that get involved in problem solving, the more we find easier and better ways of doing things. It was actually hyellow and me that figured out that you need to change the partition from logical to primary when I was having the problem of not being able to mount the card in android. It was fun watching and helping the method that you have posted evolve over several days and get easier and quicker to do.
Also, I was thinking that I might collect all my edited SD builds (I've got almost every build working) in to my dropbox and post the links to them in the second post to make it easier for people following this tutorial to grab a build that's already edited to work with magldr. What do you think?
htc hd2 overheats when dual boots
I have dual booted my HD2 using an 8 GB and 16 GB SD card. I got everything up and running and the bottom one third of the HD2 gets hot and freezes or reboots every time . When I placed one rom on the device, the device runs normally. Can anyone advise what might be the problem and the solution.

Can you provide a bit more clarity to your problem.
Does this happen with both the 8gb and 16gb cards? Also what build are you using when your phone gets hot and restarts or freezes?
I find it strange that it is fine when you are using either Android or WP7 without dual boot as you are using only one build at a time when dual booting. You are only gaining access to different partitions on your card, pretty much the same as you would if you have an EXT2/3/4 partition for data saving in Android. Do you still have the same problem if you partition you SD card for a EXT2/3/4 for data saving?
From what you have said the only possible reason is somehow your phone might have a problem dealing with partitions because in theory dual booting runs either one or another and shouldnt be different if you were using only Android or WP7.
Using Minitool's Partition Manager, you might also want to try formatting the Fat32 partition by right clicking on Fat32 partition, click on Format and choosing the cluster size to 32. Save these changes and try again.
The solution could be setting up Android to work properly. In DL Desire's build, there are quite a few options as to how you save your data. You have the save to Data.Img file which must be placed inside the directory for the build, and without going through every type there is also save to EXT2/3/4. You must alter the values in the Config.txt file for the build to know where to save data. Double check you have setup the Config.txt file correctly as you could be telling the build to save to EXT2/3/4 when there is not one. I dont know but it could affect the WP7 partition so it corrupts it and causes the above mentioned problems. Always read the chefs installation notes. Try installing MarkinXHD Extra Clean Magldr Build instead of DL Desire just to make sure.
Can anyone else throw any solutions to this problem?

I completely agree with the community sharing knowledge and that was one of the main reasons for me posting this tutorial. I am a strong believer in if you give a man a fish, then you have provided one dinner but if you teach that man to fish, then he has a lifetime worth of meals.
It would be very generous for you to share the builds you have converted to boot into Magldr as it would give people more options to what build they can choose to dual boot WP7 with. As a matter of fact, being certified in Microsoft, I was looking into doing this myself and was the next mission for me. I have limited Linux use but I am starting to sink my teeth into it and become fluent.
I post a video here if you like to follow by visualization

What do you mean by activate? Do you mean get your activation code? If so, get it anytime... you will need the activation code to use live services in wp7 anytime you flash a new wp7 rom. If you mean activate your cell phone service, that can be done at any time, also.

Thank you for the YouTube link to the same process as described in this tutorial.
I have watched the video and it does not mention that you have to change the Unfomatted partition from Logical to Primary. This is essential if you want to use the camera and to gain access to other files such as music from you SD card. Also in the video it is being demonstrated in Easeus Partition Manager. This is a good program but with it you cant change the Unformatted partition from Logical to Primary. This is the main reason I chose to use Minitool Partition Wizard. With this program everything can be done.

To Partition SD card and Flash KINGDOM Guide :D

1. BACK UP YOUR MEMORY CARD TO YOUR COMPUTER AS THIS WILL ERASE EVERYTHING!!==== THIS IS IMPORTANT
2. Reboot into recovery (Use Amon RA 2.3==NOTHING OTHER THEN AMON )
3. Select =Partition sdcard=
4. Select =Partition SD=
5. Set swap to 0 (you can leave this at 32mb, I did.)
6. Ext2-size = 2048 (2GB - the 3.0 packages eat up a lot of the internal memory, you can adjust this lower, but 2GB is recommended if you have a lot of apps I did 2 and a half)
7. Select upgrade ext2 to ext3 ===DO NOT UPGRADE EXT 3 TO EXT 4=====
8.. Now go back and mount your SD card
9.. Place all your files back on the card. Also add the ROM, PRI 1.77 downgrade is recommended you will have WAKE ISSUES IF YOU DON'T.
10. If you have to flash the PRI, do so now and reboot. If not, move on.
12. Wipe everything you normally would prior to flashing a new rom.
13. Flash Kingdom
14. First boot takes about 3 to 5 mintues to get started.
15. ENJOY THE ROM FOLKS
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE LATEST OTA RADIOS.
THIS IS FOR ALL THE PEOPLE WHO WERE HAVING ISSUES WHEN THEY PARTITIONED THERE SD CARDS AND THERE PHONES COULDN'T BOOT THE ROM.
THOSE THAT HAD THE ISSUES MUST OF UPGRADED EXT 3 TO EXT 4 WHEN THEY PARTITIONED. IT'S NOT THE ROM IT WAS USER ERROR PEOPLE.
IF YOU DID UPGRADE EXT 3 TO EXT 4 YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BOOT THE ROM YOU GET STUCK AT THE BOOT SCREEN AND IT WILL HANG. ONLY WAY TO FIX THAT IS TO WIPE THE SD CARD AND RE PARTITION.
DO NOT BLAME THE DEVS FOR SOMETHING YOU DID WRONG. THANKS
THERE IS A GFX FIX THAT SMOOTHS THE ROM OUT. GET IT THEN AFTER THE ROM IS INSTALLED REBOOT TO RECOVERY AND WIPE CACHE AND DAVLIX CACHE FLASH AND YOUR ALL GOOD. I WILL POST THE ATTACHMENTS TONIGHT FOR YA.
IF YOU ARE ON THE NEWEST KINGDOMS SUCH AS 6/22 OR GREATER NO NEED FOR THE GFX FIX. HOPE YOU GUYS LOVE KINGDOM.
I am not liable if you brick your sd card I don't know anyone that has so have fun folks.
Hope this helps stop people from hammering virus and dogging the rom's.
It's funny how people on the kingdom thread ask for directions but never look in the general threads to flashing kingdom or browse the threads on there for the info. Kingdom works fine.

part of the issue is that as a noob to rooting and flashing we are overly excited and are full of questions. i love the kingdom roms and hate that i can not ask questions in the thread regarding any issues i may be having or even a simple question like how to properly flash it. ive attempted to use the search thread and still its confusing. so i appriciate it when i come across something like this that teaches us noobs how to do it. a little instruction goes along way. ive tried to navigate the xda site on my own and have actually learned more through thread such as this than i did going solo! anyway thanks for all the help hope to pay it forward someday

Happy you figured it out mayne. Thank you for reading. To many new folks were bad mouthing virus rom due to not reading things. Happy you got what you needed bro.
So I'm getting a new 32gb card and was wondering if I have to put everything from my old card on if I want to start fresh. I think the only thing I'd want move back is my latest nandroid backup.
Also do you still recommend to repeat step 7 three times?

I use the applications in the menu. When you check everything . Titanium doesn't read the same as the applications. I have 220 free ram left. Internal 210 left
You are partitioned you won't get a low mem message saying your outta ram.

I mount in recovery?
I upgraded ext2 to ext3, says it's complete, then I went down to "Mounts", then "Mount /sdcard"......did nothing but change to "Unmount /sdcard".
Nothing else has come up.
Am I suppose to just reboot after the "ext2 to ext3" is complete?
Just enabled "USB-MS" and my SD card came up.
I don't know if that's something I should have done a while ago, but it looks like it's transfering all my .zips and my Titanium Backups to the SD card.
Maybe add that option to the tutorial for dopes like me who didn't have the USB-MS function enabled!

Unlock your SD card(tested on HD2) after WP7 or Mango installation :)

I am a flash addict and I am sure most of you are. I can't stand a smooth running phone that works flawlessly. If it does, then I must do something to it to destroy it's stability. Well, it's not easy to brick HD2 unless you are a real dummy or like to live very dangerously lolll....even that can be fixed...but it was more difficult for me to find a way to unlock my SD card back to normal after WP7 installation. Some suggested in this forum that some of the cameras and nokia phones will do the trick...I was frustrated when I screwed up my 16GB sd card and could not find that camera or phone...as it won't make sense to buy them to restore a $15 card.....so I gave up on that card until today....I decided to play with WP mango again with the same sd card...resulted in locking it again...my challenge was to succeed unlocking it this time.....followed the same old procedures with no success...I tried and exhausted all options again!!! Then I decided to pop my sd card on my second hd2 which is running android with 4ext recovery installed and try to format it or something....and it worked!!!!! Just repartitioned the card and reformatted and it automatically unlocked it during the process....No step by step by step by step installation of software or reading pages or running codes.....nothing else was needed!
Life is meant to be simple after all
Anyone who is having the same issue with sd card after Windows Phone 7 or 7.5 installation just repartition and reformat your card via 4ext recovery and it will work...nothing else needed :} Good Luck!
All credits to 4ext recovery developer....and the developer must be proud to find this info.
Here is Step by Step process-
If you are running Android NAND and have 4ext recovery installed....then
1. Turn off your device
2. Take out the SD card(if there is any in it) and insert the one you want to unlock/fix
3. Turn on your device HOLD red power button until you get to aMAGLDR v1.13 menu
4. Go to option 8. AD Recovery hit green button for it load
5. Now you should have 4ext recovery(mine is version 2.2.7) menu
6. Scroll down to Advanced
7. Choose> Partition SD Card
8. Choose whatever size you want to first one, second one to be and the rest goes to fat. If you want all in one partition, just choose '0' for the first two and '0' as swap.
9. Follow on screen instruction you may see.....and it will delete all previous partition and create new one
8. NOW go back to main 4ext recovery menu....and format you SD card...AND there it it! Your SD card it back to normal...enjoy
NOTE: I use 4ext recovery that you flash via usb flasher thru magldr NOT the one from market. You can find the flashable one in here. I will try to find the link and post it. BUT it is not and will not be my work!
Here is a link I found....but this NOT what I used. I used this recovery that I found in one ROM link I have tried in the past which I can't think of but I have been using the same recovery since then because it is the BEST with the option of EXT4 file system....the one I have you can directly flash it like any other recovery you normally would to partition NAND to flash NAND Android roms. Nand partition size has nothing to do with sd recovery steps.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297587
Since I did not use the above option....I won't be much of help. But from my understanding you can use this option to update your current recovery to 4ext recovery and then follow my steps. The app from the market would require to update your current recovery as well to be able to use my method to restore your SD card after WP7 installation Good Luck! Although it is a very simple process to undertake, I am not responsible if you damage your phone or the sd card even more!!!
If someone who has the usb flashable version of 4ext recovery(for HD2) could attach it or provide link that would be great for everyone. Mine is installed in the phone and I don't seem to have that file....too many files I download everyday and must delete them all at some point
If you've found a solution to a problem...please go ahead and include a link or something so people can find the tool you used without having to spend time searching through threads and forums, instead of just writing that you found a solution.

Ok thanks for all your efforts.
It seems to m that you can install 4ext from "android market", load it then choose the first menu option "Online install..." and download the additional 4ext recovery file from there.
But I'm still having problems getting it to load at boot up
Update: No joy. I have Clockworkmod recovery on mine. Installed 4ext but overwrote boot stuff and would not load 4ex. So I need help how to replace Clockworkmod with 4ext or whatever I need to do (I have more expertise in WP7 than Android)
For the HD2 the 4EXT Recovery was originally ported by Dansta34 and i have also seen a variant on Coredroid which looks like it's the same. The Sensation 4EXT from Madmaxx will not work on the HD2.
The HD2 4EXT Recovery can be taken from either Dan's thread (TBD ROM) or from Coredroid, whereas i recommend taking it from Dan as he also took the workload of porting it to the HD2 as far as i know. So he should deserve the Download stats and the credits
I've also got it mirrored in my Signature. Feel free to take it from there. I've got both the CoreDroid and the TBD variant, yet the only difference i can see is the background image. Not sure though.
Once you downloaded that Recovery you can put your HD2 into USB Flasher Mode in Magloader and then flash the Recovery via the included DAF.exe, then proceed with the Steps the OP recommends. Notice: if you flash it for the sole purpose of unlocking your SD-Card, setting the partition sizes in flash.cfg is irrelevant. Just leave them as they are since the Recovery and the partitions will be deleted and set up different from the WP7 flash afterwards.
Since the Threadstarter has contacted me for a link to the files (?? Why is that) i'd like to point out that this Recovery is not a hidden gem but a normal Download for at least two Android ROM's and can be taken in exchange for a THANKS.
I recommened NYSEAN1 to reproduce and verify his findings, as i find it rather strange that noone else has noticed this "function" of the Recovery before. There is quite a large number of people who mess with both android and wp7 and noone has ever noticed that the HD2 can, by means of the 4EXT Recovery, unlock DRM encrypted SD-Cards? Very odd.
Well, if it does actually work, the better it is for us. So, we have to say THANKS to NYSEAN1 for finding out this wonderful trick that saves us from finding an old Nokia phone.
I'd still recommend to post this Info on the SD-Card unlocking threads as this seems the most independent and hassle-free solution to me. But please only after this procedure has been verified by more than just one person to be working as expected.
Thanks
Thank you very much.
I have sloved it.

Sorry, but it's not that simple. I have had to start all over and rebuild the O/S as loading the wrong 4ext on messed it up - would no boot past "go go go". Hence we need to know precisely which 4ext to load.
Whilst your instructions are great and will be/are a big help, we must calrify this to ensure the project is a success for others.
So one last vital piece of information needed, if you can help clarify.
Many thanks for your help
BTW. Are we talking about a completely bricked SD-Card or one that just need some fixing. i.e. has a small fat partition?

If you flash any recovery your WP7 will be gone. No matter what partition size you set. Sorry. That's exactly why it doesn't matter which 4EXT you take.
Regarding your second question: I was suspecting that Nysean1 only fixed a card with a small FAT partition. But he recons that he also fixed the DRM encrypted card from e.g. a Yuki or xboxmod ROM.

Yes I realize that things will be wiped. But I grabbed 4EXT from the Market which jammed at GoGoGo. So best we warn folk about that.
I downloaded and installed EXT4_CoreDroid_10_180_10 from your site thanks very much - seems all OK. Have Android NAND back running again
I have now tried it on a fully bricked SD Card, but no luck at all for me. Tried about 10 times will different options. So it seems it is not an unlock for a fully bricked card (unless I've done something wrong - you say any of the Ext4 from your site should work the same)
Tried it on a card with a small FAT partition, and that's worked, but I can do that using partition program on my PC, so no added value from my perspective
(unless Nysean1 can throw some more light on this)

Sorry it did not work for you. I am not hundred percent sure what kinda lock my card had. I wanted to run WP7 and android...so I installed WP7....did not quite partition the card for android as per the instructions.....this is the second time I failed to do that....WP7 without the option of android sd is lame....anyways therefore I wanted my card back...could not format it in anyways...via my camera...was not even recognized by my computer and mini tool....send usb unlock code....all failed for me....this happened to my last card also...i was never able to revive it...and did not work out any method I could find in xda and outside....but this time and with this diff. card 4ext was able to partition and format it back to normal. I can't even find that one anymore to try my new finding as I am aslo skeptic to try and take another chance with my current card as I use it everday....that I know for sure had Yuki rom installed when it first came out ...I am still searching for that card...and if I do find it I will certainly give feed back.
However....those who have installed ext4 will certainly appreciate it...since it is (I think) the best recovery you can have for you android...only thing is that some roms don't support ext4...so be aware of that.
Thanks for your explanation NYSEAN1
Thus your title/heading is fully correct - to unlock from Yuki rom.
I guess I got excited thinking that meant unlock a "bricked" SD card, which has been bricked through an error installing a WP7 rom such as Yuki rom. The two issues are different. However, you have not claimed the later case, but the first, and that is fair enough.
I have always hoped that an Android system might resurrect a fully bricked card- I still hope, but not their yet.
Thanks again
Edit 1: BTW thanks for putting me on to ext4. I do like it!!!
Edit 2:
Seems like the only way for a bricked card is for a Nokia device (or similar), which I don't have. See

If you couldn't reset the card by sending unlock cab, it simply means you did not suffer from the WP7 DRM encryption. That means your method is up until now nothing more than a faint hope. Someone has to really verify.
My theory:
It is from my perspective and experience much more likely that the file system, boot record or both had been damaged in a random way. since every partitioning tool pursues a different way of doing it's job, some might fail at your particular issue and some might get the job done. This time, it worked out for you with the 4EXT while all others failed.
Tools to try before giving up:
- windows format
- SD formatter from SD-association
- mini Tool
- EASEUS Partition Master
- Acronis
- 4EXT
To overcome the WP7 DRM encryption you would need a tool that forcefully ignores some SD-specific parameters and commands, which where originally invented to lock down these cards. As with all these systems, they only work if both content provider and content reader agree to stick you the specifications. If one doesn't, the encryption doesn't work. So far, only a certain edition of Nokias symbian does ignore the encryption command. BUT: I was hoping that also the 4EXT would maybe ignore it...

Bought a brand new Nook HD+ with the intention of using it as an inexpensive tablet in my kitchen, primarily to access the web and run cooking apps. Out of the box, I found it laggy and unresponsive to the point of being unusable.
I have some experience rooting/jailbreaking my phones, very little experience with tablets. I was eager to get KitKat on the device right away—it has proven to be so much better on my phone, much better battery life, much more responsive, less buggy, more fluid, etc. Problem is, KitKat is bleeding edge, and there are no official builds, and most of the install guides for dummies (=me) refer to earlier (JB) versions of Android.
It turned out to be quite time consuming to read all of the different versions of the install process, and to patch together a process that worked. I thought I would document what I did, in order to (possibly) save others some of the time that I invested.
Note: this process does NOT install KitKat to the SD card. In plain English, these steps install a bootable recovery image onto a micro sd card. Booting into the micro-sd recovery will allow you to wipe stock from your device and install kit-kat, google apps and an internal recovery. When you are finished, you remove the micro-SD and you have an Android tablet that boots into kitkat. If you want something different stop reading!
1) get a class 4 micro SD (class 4 seems to be the one that boots most reliably in the Nook HD+ (see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2288688&page=12 )
2) Download win32diskimager (http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/?source=directory ) and this bootable CWM recovery image (http://nook.rootshell.ru/hd/emmc-cwm-early3.img.gz ).
3) Extract the CWM recovery image, and use win32diskimager to write the image to the micro sd.
4) Download EMMC (internal) recovery image and latest CM11 EMMC from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600572) . You want “Ovation Recovery Image (CWM)” and “cm-11-xxxxxxx-UNOFFICIAL-ovation-emmc.zip.” All recoveries and roms for this device are called Ovation. Download Paranoid Android Google Apps from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942 ). MAKE SURE the version you download is for Android 4.4.x. It will say 4.4.x in the file name. I chose the Google Stock Package. (PA-Google Apps will allow you to enable ART if you want to.)
5) Turn on the Nook HD+, register it, and download all the system/firmware updates until the Google Play Store installs on your device (Google Play and Gmail etc. just recently got added to the Nook, so probably aren’t installed out of the box).
6) Transfer the three zip files (recovery image, CM11 and PA Gapps) you downloaded in step 4 onto the internal sdcard of the Nook itself. (This step is IMPORTANT: the current bootable version of CWM can ONLY read files on the internal SD, so you won’t be able to flash any roms or apps or recoveries unless they are actually on the device) I was unable to use the USB cable to transfer the files directly to the Nook from my computer—others have also had trouble getting Windows to recognize the Nook HD+ properly— and I didn’t want to spend a lot of time figuring it out, so I used the micro sd card as follows. If you can transfer directly from the computer, skip to step 7.
6a) Copy the new internal recovery, new system image and PA Google Apps from your computer to the micro SD card. Eject micro SD from computer.
6b) On the Nook, use Play Store to install a file explorer. I use Root Explorer: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer&hl=en . You don’t need root to copy files from external to internal SD (and you don’t have root at the moment) so you can download any file explorer you like.
6c) Insert micro SD in the Nook while the Nook is still booted/on. The nook will flash a message saying that it’s mounting the SD card. Once it does, use the file explorer to copy all zip files downloaded in step 4 from the EXTERNAL to the INTERNAL SD. The internal SD card is referred to as “sdcard” or “sdcard0” and the external SD as “ext_sdcard” or “sdcard1”.
7)Turn off nook.
8) Insert micro SD card if it isn’t in already, and turn on the device. You should see the "Nook" logo, which gets overwritten by the "cyanoboot" logo. Keep waiting. It will eventually go into CWM. If it doesn’t, go back and start reading through the thread referenced in step 1. With any luck, you won’t have trouble. I had boatloads of trouble booting from the SD card until I got a class 4 micro SD, and used the bootable image linked in step 2. Since then I can boot every time.
9) Use CWM to backup stock rom, then wipe data/factory reset. (Very good instructions on using CWM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317500 ) Flash the internal recovery. Flash the CM11 Rom. Flash PA Google apps. Remove micro SD. Select “Reboot System now”.
10) When you reboot, go to Settings/About tablet/Build number. Tap on that seven times to enable developer options. Go to Settings/Developer Options and select Advanced Reboot which allows rebooting into recovery from the power button.
11) OPTIONAL: Enable ART. ART is not compatible with all applications, so you might experience problems. You can see which applications work and don’t work here: http://www.androidruntime.com/. Enabling it made a very big difference for me in terms of smoothness; others with more experience seem to achieve similar, or better effects by modding with xposed, gravitybox, etc. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2579945&highlight=change+and+resolution&page=24) To read more about ART and what it does see: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...-in-secret-for-over-2-years-debuts-in-kitkat/. If you decide to give it a try: Settings/Developer Options/ Select Runtime/Use ART.
12) Reboot—this time will take a while because ART (if you enable it) has to reconfigure itself.
For me, the difference is night and day. I now have a tablet that runs beautifully. Many many thanks to the hard working developers who make this possible, especially Verygreen, who provided the rom and recovery, and e.mote who wrote the "for dummies" thread that helped this dummy make it through the process.
Please comment and change anything that I have garbled. My goal is to consolidate information, not mangle it!
Very good post
Thanks for the excellent post. :good:
I was running 4.4.2 different versions on emmc and sd card.
10.2 nightly is still the best for me!
Performance and battery wise.
Hi I installed the same rom over Carbon rom. I went to format my sd card and every time iI tried the Nook would reboot. I went into CWM recovery and formatted it from there but I think it formatted the internal sdcard, Could someone check this out for me as this is my first post I cant post on the developer forum. TIA Mike
Not sure what you exactly what you mean, but it sounds like you were trying to format your external SD card from inside your nook? If you write the CWM bootable image to your external SD using Win32Diskmanager you don't need to format it. Writing the image will erase everything already on the external sdcard. You should be able to boot from it and install the zips. Is your problem that you can't boot from the external SD, or that you erased the zips from your internal sdcard?
Go back and read over verygreen's thread referenced in step 4-- I think he may have posted an updated version of CWM that can read the external sd card. Otherwise:
Did you make a backup of your carbon rom install? If so, you could write a bootable (earlier) version of cwm to the external sdcard, copy your backup to the sdcard and restore it, and then start over. (or not, as some people seem to think Carbon rom is just as good-- I never tried it) The thread in step 9 has great instructions that might help with that.
This thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2579945 ) is about installing a different version of cm11, and it's in a non-developer forum, where we can post. You might find answers there.

Sorry I didn't explain very well, I installed verygreens KK rom succesfully and wanted to do a backup of it. I put in a SD card and thought I would format it as it had some old junk on there. When I tried to format through the settings section the tablet would just reboot. So I booted into evergreens CWM recovery and tried through there, it formatted something but my external card cannot be read. And some of my settings have been lost, some time ago I used 4. Swapping "sdcard" and "ext_sdcard" from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2062613. So I think that may be my problem. I have back ups so no problem.

Ah! I thought from your first post that you were quite new to this process, but clearly you are ahead of me on this one. Good luck.
Update: installed the latest build which has the touch screen patch. It's PHENOMENAL. Truthfully, the only thing I need this tablet for is using a website that involves a lot of dragging and dropping. I had to train myself not to accidentally zoom and/or copy. No more! I haven't even enabled ART this time because it's working so well. I would have posted on Verygreen's thread to thank but don't have enough posts.

Yes, just restore your backup.
And BTW, never fully quote a long opening post like that. It just wastes bandwidth and we have to scroll through all that to see your comment or question.

Nook for Android?
This works very nicely. But Nook for Android won't install. Are there properties I can change to allow Nook for Android to install on this 'new' Nook device?

Great tutorial.
I would suggest around your step 9, after you have made a backup with CWM, before you wipe data/factory reset:
Remove microSD. Reboot into stock Nook and connect to computer. Copy off the backup from clockworkmod folder to your computer. Then boot again with the microSD, and proceed to wipe and flash.
Otherwise, the backup may get wiped.

You must get the nook for android app from someplace other than Play Store, like 1mobile.com.

I got everything running, but my HD+ is running extremely laggy. I did a full wipe, but my internal SD card is still a little over 7 gigs full. Is there something else I missed? The Nook reader is particularly slow.

Yes, a full wipe (factory reset) did not remove your previous media files. To do so you need to boot to CWM and go to mounts and storage and format 'data and datamedia'. That clears out previous files and should improve performance.

[HOW TO] Installing LN14.1 Internally on Nook HD+

Caveat emptor: adopt/follow this guide at your own risk.
Below is a procedure that can be used to install amaces' LN14.1 (ref: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-hd/development/marshmallow-nook-hd-hd-t3239269) internally on a Nook HD+ :
Download sdcard-reco-ovation.img.xz from amaces' repo https://notredame.app.box.com/s/26a4bygh9vbaw7jjq08xr5evomvaw5ww/1/3332706778, unzip it (using e.g. 7-zip) and use win32diskimager to write the unzipped content sdcard-reco-ovation.img to a SD card.
Download and copy to the same SD card:
amaces' flashable TWRP zip file, e.g., twrp-3.0.1-0-ovation.zip ( https://notredame.app.box.com/s/26a4bygh9vbaw7jjq08xr5evomvaw5ww/1/3332706778)
amaces' flashable LN14.1 ROM zip file, e.g., lnos_ovation-ota-NMF26Q.170104.zip from https://notredame.app.box.com/s/26a4bygh9vbaw7jjq08xr5evomvaw5ww/1/3332706778
the flashable zip file of Gapps' corresponding pico package open_gapps-arm-7.1-pico-2017[mmdd].zip from http://opengapps.org/
Turn off the Nook, insert the SD card, and boot the Nook from its power-off state.
[Optional] Make a backup of your stock ROM & Apps: to backup onto the Bootable Recovery SD card you'd need to make the boot partition on the SD card large enough to hold the backup of your stock ROM and its Apps -- see my post #7 below.
Select "wipe data & factory reset".
Select "install zip from SD card" and install TWRP recovery zip file.
Select "install zip from SD card" and install LN14.1 zip file.
Select "install zip from SD card" and install Gapps zip file.
Remove SD card and select reboot.
Once the HD+ completes boot-up (be patient as the post-installation initial boot would take 3-5 min), set up the wifi connectivity and your google account info.
If you run into problems during initial setup:
- absence of WiFi network setup step: see this post
- setup process crashes (as have been reported with some combos of ROM and GApps build versions): retry the clean install process with the sequence of steps # 5, #7 & #9 (i.e., skipping over step #8 flashing GApps) and complete the initial setup, then reboot into TWRP to flash GApps; see also https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72104906&postcount=37 for solution for other setup crash causes.
To enable "Root", see https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72185622&postcount=1915.
Notes
- This procedure can also be used to install amaces' AOSP7.1 ROM (instead of his LN14.1 ROM).
- If your HD+ is currently running CM11/12/13, see https://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-hd/general/how-to-updating-nook-hd-internal-emmc-t3562818 for an alternate procedure which does not require use of a SD card.
Please post any comment/question on the features or performance of AOSP & LN ROM builds on the Developer's thread at https://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-hd/development/marshmallow-nook-hd-hd-t3239269.
I used these steps and can confirm that it works. I came from stock ROM. I understand that there's a risk since I did not do a original ROM backup.
So far, I am impressed by the work that have gone in to make it happened from so many volunteers.

Good point! Thx
I did this on my Nook HD yesterday. Everything seemed to go correct, however my tablet will not power off. If I power off it immediately restarts. I saw a similar problem mentioned with another build but can't seem to find the thread that was referenced.
edit: I found this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-hd/development/marshmallow-nook-hd-hd-t3239269/page166 which implies this is a known problem.
Holding the power button beyond the shutdown screen worked! The tablet powered off and stays off. Phew.
Can I take a moment to say thank you. I have owned a Nook HD and Nook HD+ for almost four years. I am not very technical but did do some modding of them to enable unknown sources, the very basic you could do. The tablets were really sluggish with the original OS but we muddled through. Last week the Nook HD froze at the boot screen and the only way to resolve was a factory reset. I figured the time was right to do something more permanent and followed your instructions.
The only issue I had was I was not able to do a backup. I used an 8 GB SD card. When I used win32diskimager to write the unzipped content sdcard-reco-ovation.img to the SD card for some reason the size of the card changed to ~900 MB. So the SD card didn't have enough space for the OS backup. I redid the card several times but it kept happening. Not sure if you know what I did wrong, but I hope its moot since I hope to never to have to go back to the Nook OS.
Very sorry for the long message, but I am excited with the prospect of having a tablet we can actually use. I plan to do this to my HD+ but that one is still working and has a ton of content that I know will be lost. But I think I have to do it.

Bootable Recovery SD card images (such as Amaces' image in this case) are usually intentionally made just large enough for users to add necessary flashable zip files for ROM/GApps/Recovery yet small enough to fit in the smaller size cards a user might happen to have laying around. It's possible but more tedious (and thus potentially error-prone) to create a Bootable Recovery SD card with custom size of up to 16GB for the boot-partition -- I'll post a short guide for this.
Process for Creating a Bootable Recovery SD card for Nook HD+
[Caveat emptor: adopt/follow this guide at your own risk].
Below is the process for creating a Bootable Recovery SD card for flashing ROM/GApps/Recovery on a Nook HD+:
Using a disk partition tool (such as MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition) create on a SD card a Primary FAT32 partition of size no larger than 16GB, and set the partition ID type for the partition to 0x0C FAT32 LBA and set its Active flag. Once this is done, the partition should appear as a (read/write accessible) drive under Windows.
Use an archive file manager such as 7-zip and extract the .img file from amaces' sdcard-reco-ovation.img.xz ( https://notredame.app.box.com/s/26a4bygh9vbaw7jjq08xr5evomvaw5ww/1/3332706778 )
Use the archive file manager to extract the files from the .img file and copy them to the SD card: first MLO, then the rest of the files u-boot.bin, uImage, kernel, ramdisk, ramdisk.cwm, ramdisk.stock, and the folder OLD.
Copy to the SD card the flashable zip files for the ROM/GApps/Recovery/etc. that you'd want to install.
Notes
The most common symptoms of failed SD boot and their likely causes are:
The HD+ boots straight to stock -- most likely the boot partition's type and/or flag are not correctly set, or the NT cannot find the MLO in the boot partition (make sure that MLO is the very first file to be copied to the freshly made /boot partition).
If the HD+ consistently boots straight to stock in spite of a valid /boot partition and boot files, it's possible that the tablet is one of those HD+ units that have difficulty booting of SD cards, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2288688 for more info and potential remedies.
The HD+ screen stays dark for seemingly a long time then eventually boots to stock -- most likely the MLO or u-boot.bin are corrupted. I have had this happen to me a few times in the process of extracting them from archive zip files.
The boot partition size is too large -- for some reason the HD+ cannot boot on boot partition of size larger than 16GB.
Fantastic write up.
Everything went flawlessly.

Root is built into this ROM and can be enabled in Settings->"Developer Options", but because of a current bug you'd need to enable it, then disable it, then re-enable it again.

Let's just say that you effin rock!!
:highfive:
Problem solved.
Sorry, double post........
After getting root access as described above in post #9, I installed SuperSU and SuperSU Pro from Play.
Once the binary updated and I rebooted, I was stuck in a bootloop. I had to reflash the entire process to get the HD+ operational again.
Is this normal? Did I miss something? Does SuperSU not work with this ROM?
I see that the ROM has "Privacy Guard" which looks to be a form of superuser. Ti backup isn't happy with the stock SU and would prefer I install SuperSU. I would love to install SuperSU but don't want to reflash from scratch again.
Any tips/help would be greatly appreciated!

Apparently "Manage root access" is only available on LN ROM.
For AOSP ROM it looks like you still need to install SuperSU, see https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71063379&postcount=1647.
Thank you for the work on this. Mine is HD Plus.. Only problem I'm having after upgrade is the unit ignores "Power off" and seems to turn itself on after about 30 seconds of black screen and boots back up. Battery is at 100%, and I disconnected the USB cable, nothing is connected. Anyone else seen this?

I am running lnos_ovation-ota-NOF26W.170226 and have not seen this problem with this build as well as the previous build.
Did you do a "wipe /data & factory reset" before flashing the ROM/GApps zip files?
Also, this thread which has a much larger set of reader might be a better place to post and get help with questions like yours.

I did it on two systems, one is 16GB the other 32GB. The one that keeps turning back on was one was upgraded from CM11 (32GB), the other was virgin Nook OS . Yes, I did wipe /data and factory reset, formatted cache, etc.
