wifi tethering and Pdanet tablet - Acer Iconia A500

Hello I have in my rom Iconia A500 THOR V14.2 ANDROID ROM 3.2.1 works fine, I used wifi tethering with my tel. rom htc hd2 and HD2_NDT_GINGER_2.3.7_CM7.2_BASED_V35.0_MAGLDR and earlier and this too well, but with great battery consumption at tel. So PdaNet tablet discovered by BT to connect both perfect and very good speed and low power consumption.
The problem is that I tried to do the same with other rom in the Tel and nofunciona with any other, in some Wifi if I managed to connect but bt nowhere.
I can not access this configuration to the proxy and the true sense of megustan the HTC rom and now I can not use them for this.
I have read also in San Google and forums and I think it has something to do DHCP choking in Iconium.
Would greatly appreciate help in resolving this problem.

I'm not completely sure I understood you correctly, but here's what I think might help you:
Bluetooth is somewhat broken on this tab. I don't know if BT tethering works on any ROM... I never actually searched for it and it's not in the settings.
WiFi Tethering works just fine with most ROMs; Acer removed the menu entry, but not the necessary software, i. e. any "WiFi tethering widget" will work if you've got root. I'm not sure about non-rooted devices, though, as I rooted mine like 10 minutes after I got it... Also, most custom ROMs (even almost-stock ones) restore the menu entry, so you don't even need that.
EDIT: After re-reading your post I think the problem might just as well be with the kernel you use... Its source is (in violation of the GPL) not available, so I can't be sure of that.

Where Can i download the built in Infrastructure WIFI tethering app for HD2?

Hi, im in need of some assistance. I have a new android device, the Archos 5IT. my phone is the Tilt 2. i have been unable to get my tilt 2 tethered to it thru wifi. reason being that the xda wifi router app uses adhoc mode. the archos will only see Infrastructure connections. Someone on the archos forum said the HD2 has built in a wifi tethering app that is infrastructure mode. Can someone plz direct me to that app or another wifi tethering app that uses Infrastructure mode only? also, free apps...lol thnkx in advance i figure if i download that app, ill be good, and wont have to take this device back. plus its giving me probs trying to connect thru bt also. lol FIGURES
If you can't find a free one, I recommend WMWifiRouter (v2 and above). It lets you connect multiple devices via Wifi (infrastructure style) and Bluetooth, as well as work as a USB modem and a USB Wifi dongle.
If you have Omarket installed, just download "Mobile Wi-Fi Router." It works GREAT!
Sorry about reviving an old thread. I've been searching and trying to find this exact solution, but neither of the ones listed here are doing "Infrastructure" mode. I'm currently testing WMWifiRouter (v2.0 - build 1502, downloaded directly from their site today) and when I set up the wifi connection, it only gives an option for Ad-Hoc (or none - which is for connecting to another access-point).
Am I missing something with WMWifiRouter, or is there any other app at all that will do Infrastructure mode? I don't mind having to buy something, I just need it working.
Thanks!

Sorry if I am not clear with your issues above.
But, Winmo 6.5 in HD2, has a native wifi tethering application.
There is an option menu (in Comm Manager) to turn on the Wifi Router.
This will make your HD2 as an Access Point. It can accept 5 devices.
Cheers..
Yes but only in adhoc mode, not in infrastructure mode, which appears to be needed for connecting some devices like psp and my new HTC flyer!
Same problem with GT 10.1 and HTC HD2
I have the wifi router program but it's not working with my galaxy tab 10.1, how can i tell if its adhoc or infrastructure signal?

Hi, I am researching this as well, and here is what I have found so far.
1. Android does not currently support/connect to ad-hoc WiFi, only Infrastructure mode.
2. If your Android tablet device can not see the WiFi from your phone hotspot but a PC Can, then it is probably ad-hoc, as my WinMo HTC HD2 is.
3. I have an Asus Transformer tablet with Android 3.1 and this can not see my WiFi from the WiFi hotspot settings, but my PC can see it and connect to the HD2.
4. If there is an Android ROM for your phone, (XDA Forums) that will run from the SD card, you can boot into that and use the WiFi hotspot (Tethering) from the Android ROM. This seems to work fine on my setup.
Hope this helps
really would rather not root if at all possible
since i live in fear of ending up with a very expensive brick (by messing up rooting my xoom) - has anyone come up with a way to make the winmo htc hd2 send out an infrastructure wifi signal?

Simple answer is no. Winmo 6.5 will not do infrastructure wifi hotspot, no matter whether native Winmo app or a 3rd party app (i.e., WMWifirouter). You're going to have to do what I'm doing with my HD2. Go thru the learning process of installing an Android build on your SD card, and then boot into Android. You've very little risk of bricking the HD2 if you read carefully and follow the guides. [However, these guides are definitely written by geeks, not editors who write and re-write to be explicitly clear.] Supposedly, the Android Wifi router is infrastructure, but I've not yet gotten to that point in my own process. The first one I tried to install (AmeriCanAndroid) didn't complete booting up successfully, so I tried another Android build (MIUI), but in it I'm not finding a wifi tethering app. And, in it, the Market app is crashing. So, I'm now on the search for a 3rd Android build. The payoff is big (wifi tethering to my Viewpad 7 tablet), so I persevere. Good luck to you on your journey.

[Q] Trying to reverse tether, stuck at PPP.

Hi,
I'm not sure whether it's good thing to open one thread related to two problems but I haven't got better idea how to put it.
Main problem:
Since I have acquired my GT540 I'm still searching for the solution for reverse tethering. My operator doesn't have decent data plan, quite often I'm out of any wifi range and currently I'm completely out of wireless.
So I'm left with workable USB connection and Bluetooth. Which leads us to...
Secondary problem:
I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835912 and solution proposed there is quite feasible to me as usbnet still seems to be song of the future and I'm using Linux on the host PC anyway. But when I tried to implement it, I learned that PPP is not enabled in my kernel, which understandably derailed my plan. I use CM7 by Mur4ik.
The question then is, can I somehow painlessly enable this PPP support?
Or could someone politely nudge Mur4ik to enable it in the next release of SwiftDroid? (I don't have sufficient rights to post in devel forum myself)
Or, is there another, working way of getting net access for my phone?
Cheers.
So, you don't have Wireless Adapter or WiFi to put on your desktop and share the internet?
I have tested to share the PC internet connection via USB to GT540 and i never did it...
I bought a WiFi AP and now I use the GT540 with Wireless on my entire house, i think its better than USB.
As I mentioned, sometimes I have wireless access but recently I'm stuck without. Besides, in this most recent cm7-m6 adhoc networking doesn't work either.
Yes, I think too that having wifi coverage in home is nice but the problem I stated is what to do WHEN you don't have it.

Got Wireless tethering to work But....

Ok so I got wireless tethering to work form my rooted Epic 4g to my galaxy tab 10.1 and its pretty cool. I did it with wireless tethering version 3. The only thing is that at first i couldn't get it to work because of the authentication once I turn off the encryption on my Epic it worked perfectly and connected right away. But what I don't get is why it doesn't work with the password if anyone can give me some advise why this is happening it would be cool, Thanks.
Strange, I tether all the time without issue. Should be possible. Are you using an app or built-in settings for tethering.
I got the app version (V3 is the only one that works) . I mean it works,..just not with the password on.
I use wifi tethering with my samsung galaxy phone with tmobile. you should try changing setting in build in tethering app and see if this works. I use 'quick settings' free app from market for quick access to wifi hotspot settings.
I have this problem too, it tethers fine but whenever it comes to things requiring password (like email logins) it rejects the password.
can any one who doesnt have this problem share which software they use for tethering?
how did you get tethering to work? i have tried the wpa_supplicant hack but the wifi drops every 10 seconds. what rom are you running & what supplicant file did you use?
It only works right with wireless tethering app version 3. Apparently if you have the rom that has it built in you shouldnt have any problems.
This is what i used http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
I use bluetooth tethering fron my Win Mobile Treo Pro running wmwifirouter. I got tired of trying to root and do the wpa supplicant thing. Android needs to support adhoc wifi out the box across the board. So ridiculous really by now.
Still Cannot Tether
Ok...so Im still on an older phone ( Droid Eris ) but it's rooted running Gingerbread and the wireless tether v.2.07 works great with my laptop but wont work at all with the Galaxy Tab? I really don't understand this. I have tried everything from leaving it completely open to setting up all the appropriate authentication and access control. I tried the link in the thread for 3.0 and even select the Desire..which I think is the basis of the rom I am on...and just got errors in the log.
Anyone else having these issues? Not sure why it works fine on the laptop but not the tablet?
thanks
I am running v 2.0.7 on a myTouch. When I wireless tether with access control on I can check Gmail, but browser will not get websites. If I turn off AC, then browser works OK.

I think that 2.07 is ad-hoc only and honeycomb doesn't support ad-hoc. (someone correct me if I'm wrong). There are a few threads around here somewhere where you can replace/edit a file that allows ad-hoc support. As to your other question, I use Wifi tether-pre11 and it works without issue. I'll link it to you. Make sure you change "device profile" under settings in the app to correspond with your device. I had troubles with the app until I set the device profile to my device. Depending upon your luck, you may have to try a few different pre-release files on wifi tether 3.0 to find the right one. Like I said, pre11 works great for my Epic, but your device may be different. Just don't use the top one (test2) as I recall seeing that its meant for Samsung devices.

i am actually tethering thru my epic to post this. The wifi tether is screwy for our phones. I use SFR1.2 and geno1.1final. 3g works, 4g causes a instant reboot on the phone, but it works in infrastructer mode without issue.

Can you post those APK's or the instruction please, I have an Epic as well.
I use wifi tether to connect my thunderbolt to my gt10.1. With version 3 I have it set to softap (master) not ad hoc. Access control is on and I have the routing fix box checked for htc phones. I tethered well over 1gb this morning with no problems

Check the android development section of the epic section.. SFR1.2 is the rom, Genocide 1.1final is the kernel. They include wifi tether that works for the epic in the rom..

Ok..finally followed the guide here and replaced my wpa_supplicant using the links provided. I have wireless tether v3.0pre14 working with no authentication. I am now going to play with authentication and may back down to pre11 since you had good luck with it. I am surfing solid with no drops...video streaming is fairly slow but thats to be expected I would assume. I am running rooted 10.1 retail 32MB with Verizon Droid Eris rooted running GB 2.3.3.
Many THANKS for the help!
Just to add a data point, I hadn't tried tethering my Tab to my Thunderbolt until I read this thread. I am running Wireless Tether 2.08pre. I set up access control and also enabled wifi encryption. I used it for about 20 minutes without any problems. That includes email, surfing the internet, and YouTube.
I too can tether the GT 10.1 with my HTC Thunderbolt using Wifi Tether, but am having trouble with the Samsung Droid Charge. Anybody get the Charge to tether successfully? TIA!

Team Blue Droid 3.1 +Hotspot

Hi out there,
I really like the ROM´s (HD2) of TBD and used 2.6 for a while. Unfortunally the Hotspot will not work. It´s seems to me that they removed the "original" hotspot and implemented barnacle. My Motorola XOOM will not find any hotspot When I turned on the hotspot from the shortcut menue, my XOOM see the hotspot and try to connect but can´t get an IP ... I installed an ICS dev from SD-card and it worked without any problems. My XOOM worked with the hotspot of the Desire (stock) my wife owns. I can´t use an ICS, better to say I don´t want in the moment, because it´s really hard to sync all the data I need from my pc to my XOOM and to my phone. And I don´t want to use clouds in the moment ...
Dear all the hard working developers out there ... please please please think while you are developing things about the user(s). I worked in the software industrie for many years and I know that a lot of projects are running without an idea what the end user will think about that.
I try to find a ROM that will fit my needs, sync with Outlook/Exchange, working as a hotspot for my XOOM, running fast and stable, and last not least looks quite good ...
So Barnacle isn't working for you? You selected to skip WPA supplicant correct?

[OUTDATED, DONT USE THE PATCH] Ad-hoc wifi?

Don't use the old ad-hoc patch. As described below it did not even work for me (I saw the network, but could not connect).
Instead it produced just new problems: The wifi reconnect after wake-up stopped working properly, I often had to manually disable and reenable the wifi to get a connection back. And even then it was always very shaky.
I restored the original files and everything seems to be back to normal.
So I would advise against using the very old adhoc patch.
Can someone tell me what the current status on ad-hoc wifi for the NST is?
There is some very old thread about this, that says that you can use the patch for the Nook Color. But it is not clear whether that can be done with the current versions of the Nook, the Nooter, etc., so I am a bit worried about bricking.
Can anyone help? Thanks!
rhhd,
I have a STR with 1.1.1 firmware, rooted, running multitouch, and I've done all the process for running ad-hoc, which runs quite well. Do it! There is a later post on the same thread about changing an entry in a file which allows adhoc run well.
Thanks for the info and for pointing me to the ini post. I did all of this.now I can see the adhoc network, but I cannot connect to it. My Android phone also can't connect to it, so maybe its a general Android problem.or maybe Windows is to blame.
Anyway I now installed Connectify. This works well, so I don't care about adhoc anymore.
Sent from my NOOK using XDA
rhhd,
That problem with disconnecting when sleeping already existed before, so it is not new. I guess it has to be checked with care before announcing it does not work at all.
I am not sure if we talk about the same thing:
Of course the Nook disconnects on sleeping, that is probably intentional to save battery (my HTC Desire does the same).
I am talking about quick and reliable reconnecting after wake-up.
I have tested it pretty extensively on my device, both before the restore and after. Probably took me two hours. So I am pretty sure about this. Of course, it may only apply to my device, but I doubt it.
Connectify allows testing this pretty well, because it allows you to see when the sleeping device disconnects.
