just returned it ... - Galaxy Tab 7.7 General

I had a Galaxy Note... seems to be the 77 is just an overgrown Note... I struggled to justified bringing it without a bag... or just moving around ... I used to have my phone with me all the time.
I saw a mini candy bar BT phone with keypad in Wanchai... but still need the 77 to be near.
anyone got solution to over come ? 77 is just so superb to be passed....
I am now looking at tablet and galaxy note for phone... looking for transformer prime combo with my sgn...

Now that the Motorola Xoom and iPad 2 are out, any point to buying a Galaxy Tab?

Isn't the Galaxy Tab pretty much outdated now that we have the killer Motorola Xoom and uberpopular iPad 2?
Like the Geico advertising: what do you..live under the rock?
Thinner than iPad2 mind you http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/22/samsung-galaxy-tab-8-9-and-new-galaxy-tab-10-1-thinner-than-the/
FWIW, I bought my Galaxy Tab after the Xoom was released and after the iPad 2 was announced.
I was more interested in width than anything else and I couldn't find anything I the market that would match what the Tab could do and still fit in a jacket pocket.
I too with rather wait for the 8.9 tab due this summer or if size doesn't matter the new Galaxy Tab 10.1
Neither of those "uber tablets" fit in my pocket which is why the Galaxy Tab is sitting in front of me at the office while the iPad is sitting on a desk at home, unused. Bigger isn't always better.
It's the size! If there was a more capable tablet that still fit in my front trousers pocket, I'd look at it. Meantime the SGT is still best of breed.
I have a ipad and gtab....im for the gtab....i got mine a month ago...havent picked up my ipad...i gave it to my gal.....plus it fits in my back pocket

well, i've come back to the galaxy tab - just bought one from a forum member. for what i'm using it for a dual core tablet would be much benefit, besides there aren't any programs i use that even come close to slowing down the tab.
the size is perfect for book reading and it's not too big to lug around (it fits in some of my pockets).
xoom is heavy and has speakers in the back and I dont think it has gps . Ipad does not work and play well with windows pcs for transfering files and progs and they are too big to lug arround with you . Galaxy tab has it all . Only thing I don't like about tab is both speakers are on right side so it does not give you stereo feel when you watch movie but i use headphones and getting used to it . I did not flash it with any custom rom . It is perfect out of the box and all that without contract .
Its not outdated. 10.1" is too big for a portable tablet. Fair enough if its only for home or work use, but I wouldn't want to have to carry it around everywhere I go as a day to day tablet.
And speakers on the back are the worst tech decision since the iPhone 4 came out.

Well I've loved every minute of my pad and hardly ever put it down since purchase. With less than a week before the pad 2 drops something pulled me towards the galaxy tab and despite my intent to go for the pad i thought why not have a play with the tab and if it measures up id keep it to play second place to my pad when i get it.
Onlyhad it 24 hours now and i can't put the dam thing down. The size makes it so much more pocketable than the pad and despite my concerns over the battery being poor its really turned out to be a dam good bit of kit. Only just getting to the end of the first charge and I've had a hell of a lot of use from it.
All of a sudden the Friday deadline for the ipad 2 dropping really does not seem so far away anymore and im suddenly not in any rush to go back to apple ios.
Who knows maybe by Friday i won't even worry about getting the ipad and stay with the galaxy tab until the new models hit the UK.

Hi @All,
I only wanna know, if this Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9" has telephonical function, cause I hate IPAd and other Pads, where you can only surf and play games....
And if there will be no Phone functions, I will hate them All, cause why bying such big, senseless bricks, only for surfing, gaming? Samsung Galaxy Tab is the most wonderful thing, Samsung have created, so should it be for the Future!!!
U will find the 7" a good compromise. None know if the 8.9 could do voice

No one knows for sure seeing how it's not out yet, but I am sure that like with the gTab 7" the brilliant devs here at xda will be able to make it so it will make phone calls.
I actually just got my Tab today finally. I wanted to see what was announced at ctia and I wasn't overly impressed. The Flyer is a good size, but I have a feeling it'll be priced way too high. The new GTabs are too big. I have an iPad so I didn't want another large tablet as I wanted something I could easily take with me often. The Playbook looks nice, but the bezel looks larger and dimensions are too big for my pocket.
So I ended up right back where I wanted to be in the first place. My new shiny Sprint Tab won't see much downtime in the next couple of days I don't think
I think it's all about what you want out of a tablet. I have laptops and an iPad (1st gen) and there's definitely a place for the OG Tab with me.

Buy it for what it is right now or don't buy it. It's a tablet, not a phone, just like the iPad. Don't buy one and then complain every day because you wanted an oversized phone and no one cares or it can't be hacked. Buy it for what it is right now or don't buy it.
I am interested in GT 8.9", if it fits nicely in one hand I will probably buy it, if not, I am still sticking to my orginal GT. Seeing how laggy Honeycomb is, I actually don't mind Froyo on my GT
Best thing about the current GSM Tab is it's the only 7" + tablet with a phone, provided your willing to flash that feature.
You can also find them at great prices now in the used market.
It may not have next gen specs but it sure is capable of email and browsing
which is what most use a tablet for anyhow.
I also like the 5" Dell Streak another device you can find at low prices,
and it does fit in any pocket unlike the Tab
So this thing is definitely not out-dated. On April 1st, I picked up a Xoom and then on the 3rd I picked up a Galaxy Tab off CL for $300 (Leather case and Keyboard included). I find myself using my Galaxy Tab substantially more than I use the Xoom. The Xoom has effectively killed my laptop use, but for general surfing and usage, I tend to lean towards my Tab. If you can't hold out, its definitely worth it, but if you can, get the 8.9.
I wouldn't recommended it its soon slow i returned line today

SGS vs Galaxy Tab

Sorry this is off topic, But thats why its in the general section.
Im thinking of investing in a Galaxy Tab. Is there anyone here on XDA who has one AS WELL as a Galaxy S ?
I want to know what makes the tab unique ?
Apart from the different hardware specs and such. Is it basically a bigger version of the SGS ? only without options for calls and SMS.
I can do pretty much anything with my SGS, i dont want to spend a few £££ just for a bigger version..
Ive seen the Nook tablet which is rather cool i think, And with a very reasonable price tag...
what are your comments ?
Have a tab for last couple of months, and you are right in a way - its an over blown sgs. You can make calls and send sms on galaxy tab as well. To be honest, my galaxy tab is used mostly by my 2 year old to watch wiggles. I use it mostly for watching movies, and occasionally reading books and news. Rest everything is pretty much done on my sgs. I do not want to sell my tab cos I really like the size of the device, and I think it's a very good device. I just don't know what to do with it. I think most of the people who own an ipad would say the same.

Thanks for that mate
I think il go for a cheaper option then.
I want a tab for movies and games too, Some are too small on the SGS.
I dont want to spend a lot of money just for this, so i will invest in the Nook color
You really can make calls with a tab ?
Or only calls via the inet ?
Tab is gsm enabled. So you insert a sim and use it as a phone. The only catch is that you need to use your ear phones or talk using speaker phone as the Tab doesn't come with an earpiece.

I've tested the galaxy tab and like said before, it's a bigger SGS. But I don't really like walking with those think of hardware in my pocket
I've tested th Ipad 2 too, and it's the same, just a bigger Iphone.

is true; is a large galaxy but all depends on Rom that l' one with for my part I is still into 2.2 and that does not go quickly I await the update impatiently for gingerbread
Have both, love my tab. Before I got it I was doing half my browsing at home on my s rather than just on my laptop. Now I do 90+% of my browsing, all my email on the tab. It's just so portable. Like the one handed 7"size.
I also have both.
Running CM7 on my i9000 and MIUI on the tab (trying it out).
Yeah its just a giant SGS, but spacemoose over in the tab forum is working on a Honeycomb port. So I think it'll be pretty sweet if he gets it working well
me then have both on the GS Rom GingerReal 2.3.4 and on Rom GT d' orange origin samsung 2.2 and it goes better of the dimension of the GS impatiently awaits the 2.3 on GT

Anyone got a note too? What's your opinion between that and 7.7?

I have a galaxy s2 and a tab 7.7 but I'm debating whether to shift them both and get a note.
I also have an iPad which is great for longer web sessions but no way near as portable as the 77 which is why I got the 7.7.
The note and 77 share the same resolution even though the note is smaller but is it too big as a phone?
The note also already has ICS roms , I'm slightly worried the 7.7 is going to get lost in the ever growing tab range and be slow for updates .
3 devices seems excessive even though I do use them all.
Help lol
I use both, well... I use Note and my wife use tab 7.7. Don't think you want to replace tab 7.7 with Note. Note is great for portability, I simply love it, but tab 7.7 is better for media / magazine / web consumption.
Stick with your S2 and tab 7.7. Or switch your S2 to Note and keep the tab.

I like the Note a lot, and there is a fair amount of overlap between it and the 7.7. But, reading books on the 7.7 is much better, as is watching videos. The Note is great to pop in my car dock and use for Google Music streaming and nav apps. I have the luxury of both since my company pays for my wireless service.
As far as ICS ROMs for the Note, that's only for the N7000 international version, and so far it's pretty unsatisfactory. ICS is not a panacea, and I actually quite like most of Samsung's TouchWiz apps on the stock Gingerbread ROM (although I ditched the launcher in favor of ADW EX).
The 7.7 is on Samsung's list of "promised" updates for ICS, and since they just started updating the GS2, I think they're going to hold true to their word. I'm guessing it will be May for the 7.7.
I have both the Note and the 7.7. They are both great in their area. The note is great as a phone especially with the invlusion of the s pen. The 7.7 is excellent for ebook reading , browsing, and portibility. They both compliment each other
i have them both as well..
Id perferr the 7.7 for not being at work..
When i get home.. I switch my sim from the note to the 6800
I find as the months go by, i wouldn't have it any other way.
Very pleased with both, though only carry one at a time.
Good luck

[Q] Change the Galaxy Tab for a Galaxy Note?

Hi! I'm new at this forum and recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 tablet and I'm not really sure what to think of it yet. I was looking for a tablet I could use exceptionally for college purposes: to write essays, to take notes, to browse the web and essentially manage my college life (and of course watching a couple of movies from time to time ). I found the Galaxy Note 10.1 on the internet and fell in love with it, but the Galaxy Tab 3 was on sale on a local store and I read some good reviews about it so I bought it. I found out that it lags so much it becomes irritating and reboots at least once per day. I eventually installed Nova Launcher and the lag almost disapparead but it still happens when I'm browsing the web from time to time, and the reboots still continue , so I may return it or ask for another one. I read a couple threads saying you could root the Tab and use it for note taking too, but I'm not sure about rooting it now, since I will lose my warranty and I need it now because I'm in my first year in college. The display resolution really doesn't bother me that much, of course a better resolution screen wouldn't hurt a thing, but what I really want is something portable and productive so I don't have to carry around my laptop which is very heavy...
Should I buy the Galaxy Note or stay with the Tab?
Hi.
I make the same brainstorm in every new gadget i want to buy.
Better performance vs more expensive.
The key is value for money. Your valuation vs you money.
If the Tab doesnt meet your expectations, its has low value for you and turns out to be more expensive in the end comparing to the investment on a Note (2012 is cheap now).
Got a 10.1 and for note taking in meeting, net surfing emails etc its the BEST.
Take my following advice with salt and pepper:
I think you have already made the decision for swap it for a note and need some moral support
So here it is: Go for it
Regards
Nuno

Note 10.1 2012 is not worth to buy, imho. If you really want Note, buy newer one. Samsung hasnt upgraded this device and I have already problems with that. You cannot share SNote files. Apps for smart-devices are nowadays often developed for Android 4.2/4.3 because those give much more opportunities to develope functions in apps. So if you are thinking to keep that device for somentime and buy smart-accessories, you will have problems. But if you are looking a cheap tablet with a pen, notngoing to share SNotes or not going to buy smart-accessories, then you might want to get this tablet. Otherwise, stay away from it!

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (GT-N8000) is the CHOICE!
Don't listen people that you say 2014 is better and blabla...
I should have possibility to compare Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (GT-N8000) and Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 (GT-P6050).
Even the 2014 has better HW, GT-N8000 has more followers and even official Samsung doesn't update GT-N8000 firmware from 4.1.2 to higher one, firmware on 2014 is Android 4.3 (by my oppinion worst Android ever!).:crying: But never mind. When I compare this two devices 2014 had lags, problems with Wi-Fi and even with S-Pen.
Antutu benchmark (after customization ROMS in both devices) show mi score Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (GT-N8000) = 20976 and Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 (P6050) = 31500. Really big difference. :good: But even 2014 is most high-perfomace tablet on the market, I felt GT-N8000 more efective than 2014. Strange, isn't it? But it's only my oppinion.
PRO's 2012 (GT-N8000)
-Big users support
-A lot of tuned apps
-User friendly
-Great work with S-Pen
-Price = $249
CON's
-Old firmware (but after customizitation you can have even KitKat 4.4.2)
-IPS resolution only 1280x800
-Less memory (16GB) but i Saw 32 GB version too!
PRO's
-One of big perfomance tablet ever!
-Great display resolution 2560*1600
-to future best tablet ever
CON's
-Unwanted apps, a lot of bloatware (but you can unistall it as you want)
-still new device, untuned apps
-A lot od lags
-New S-Pen do what should't be
-Price = $499
Thank you so much for all your replies! After reading a lot of reviews I decided to buy the galaxy note 10.1. (2012 version) and so far i'm very happy with it! I hadn't browsed a lot about the android version problem so i didn't know that it was so far late in the android version but in my case i don't find it a very big issue and i'm very happy with it, there is no lag at all (even when running a ton of apps). The only problem that i encountered was changing the wallpaper so it fits perfectly on the screen, because everytime i tried to change it im forced to crop the picture and turns the oicture to a crappy resolution... I was a little afraid since I hated the tab but so far so good. Of course I hope they update it in the future. I've been searching the web about roms and roots but I understood nothing... can someone enlight me or direct me to a topic where it is explained? My note is the gt-n8010. All I need is a shiny new cover for my note and i'm a very happy costumer! And maybe in a few years i will buy the next version

(you might want to update the firmware first before doing this)
If you want to use any pic for a wallpaper do this:
Install simple image wallpaper live wallpaper. It lets you select sny pic you want for your wall and it works great and is free.
Go do it now.

I would prefer N8013 over Tab 3 10.1 because:
More RAM (2GB vs 1GB)
Quad-core CPU (ARM vs X86)
S Pen
100% virtual buttons on the bottom (true tablet operation)
Flash (it does not work with X86 Android)
I prefer the note 10.1 over the tablet.
More functionally and productively.

Yoga tab 3 plus still worth it?

I am considering getting a Yoga tab. I really like the built in kickstand and features of the yoga tab series. I am wondering if the Yoga tab 3 is worth it, or should I look at the Yoga smart tab. The 3 seems to have better GPU, similar in other specs. I currently have a tab 4 plus, but Prime video stopped being supported recently. I use it mainly for video watching and light gaming.
Yes
Just got one. Yes definitely still worth it. Outrageously good ad useful for what's now a 3+ year old device. Love it and I haven't even put Lineage on it yet.
Bought mine a year ago works perfectly. Sound quality is better that anoy other tablet I have had.
Mine still works pretty well, I was wonder about change stock rom to linage but first I should change my battery, anyone knows where buy it one?
