Samsung Galaxy S III’s MWC debut reportedly canceled - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

http://www.theverge.com/2012/1/25/2733022/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-mwc-rumor
We're hearing from people familiar with the matter that Samsung — which had originally planned to announce its 2012 flagship Galaxy S III phone at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona late next month — has now decided to delay the news. It's unclear when or where the new announcement will be, but we're told that it'll still be out there "before summer." Though MWC seems like a logical choice for the GSIII's unveiling (the GSII was announced there last year), the speculation is that Samsung was uncomfortable with another long lag between the global launch and US availability. The US is a key market for Samsung's mobile business, of course — particularly when the company is successful in getting most or all national carriers to pick it up.
While we don't know what exactly Samsung will be announcing at MWC in the GSIII's place, we understand they'll have "interesting stuff" — perhaps a Galaxy Tab refresh, especially since the 10.1 is getting long in the tooth and we're due for a round of quad-core updates in 2012. A new Windows Phone portfolio is another possibility; there have been rumors that Microsoft will make an announcement at the show, and Samsung is about as strong a Windows Phone partner as Microsoft has outside of Nokia. We'll be following this story closely as it develops.
I posted this here only because a lot of people are/were expecting the SIII to be the runner up to the Note II but if Mods don'e believe it relevant, please remove.

I'm pretty disgruntled with AT&T's tardy release of devices, too. I hope Samsung's going to do something about it. This 4 month delay crap has gotta go.

Important s US is as a consumer market, it is no longer the most important nor the one that generate the highest sales figures.

lol Samsung Gimmicks ...
If they launched SGS III at MWC no one would buy the Galaxy Note as everyone will tend more towards the Quad Core ( I know tech sucks sometimes ) phones. Whether or not Samsung you are doing right, atleast I can have some more quality time with my note

Yes, China is becoming more important then the US I guess. There are models coming out in China that you do not even know about in the US.
Like the Samsung SCH-W999.
But I do not understand why a later announcement would decrease the delay in US availability. I do not see the logical link.

Do not forget the stuff that is already announced.
For example the Galaxy SII LTE HD that is 1280x720 and just a bit smaller then the Note.
It makes sense that the SIII does not get announced before the Note LTE , the SII LTE and the SII LTE HD get globally distributed.
But after that, bang... S III, 5 times faster then everything before.

You are making me depressed. Just stop it I want to have the most powerful phone on the market a little longer. Samsung is such a party pooper! I think i'll have to sabotage.. some stuff..

I think this is the best. Best for sammy & for us. Too faster release, consumer cant catch up!! Im not a rich guy to buy phone every month..haha

it's not really a fast release if the phone it's replacing was announced during the last mwc and released in april shortly after.

Samsung Galaxy S3 is different phone, there is still much advantages for Note vs. SGS3, bigger screen and S-pen.

It is when a 4,5" version came 3 months after that, and a HD version after another 6 months. That's 3 since the last refresh.. not short enough?

Exactly... Quadcore even with ICS wouldn't be reason enough for me to switch. Might make me think a bit before buying, but I'm pretty sure I'd still go with the Note...

i just want a note 2 for my next phone, something with a bit more ram so that apps arent shut down and tw doesnt get shut down as often as it does on my note which makes me wait till the homescreens get populated.
guess same reason for OTG being flaky with official and other OTG adapters. but a restart of the phone sorts it out and OTG works fine again.
hope the bugginess decreases with icrecream sandwich as sometimes the bugginess and lag on occassions makes me want to take a refund after returning the phone.
USB host capability is flaky compared to my 5y old archos 605 media player which ALWAYS recognises flash drives and able to copy or paste files easily. the note OTG facility for connecting flash drives and copy pasting files is a distinct and lousy second place compared to my 5y old archos 605 which is faultless for the flash drives connecting functions and connecting cameras etc. plus hub can record tv etc or anything that passes through the hub, even has an EPG so can do timed recordings. wish all those features come for the note 2 or even for this note with a media hub device. but hub should fit phone with all standard accessories like flip case probably will need a connection features like present on phillins fidelio range for android which connects to many android devices and samsung official accessories like hubs dont even fit the note when official flip case is put on. bloody jokers must be hired in their design dept.

There is a market for phones like the note and consumers like me who think bigger is better as the case for every note buyer, the SIII is different from note and when the note II comes out its gonna blow the SIII out of the water

SGS v SGS2

Got my hands on the S2 today and did a little comparison. I have to say there is little different size and weight wise but the S2 totally sold me and it's feel and the hardware are great. Not sure how Sammy can make the SGS any better. And as for 2.3.3, well I can't wait to get it now on my SGS.

and

I would love to get this phone but im not due for an upgrade for another 9 month .

SGS 3 is reported for release THIS year, sep/oct possible release and the true reason apple try to sue sammy.
Sammy have plans to release a flagship phone every 6 months instead of every year; and apple are crapping theirself, also sammy aint allowing apple full catalogue of their technology for them if rumours are to be believed.
Samsung are developing an edge-to-edge screen that they wont share with apple for iphone 5, abd rumours are apple are looking.at sharp to get an edge to edge screen
But with sammy reportedly releasing a flagship phone every 6 months, the iphone 5 will probably be out-dated before its release, with the galaxy s 3 already surpassing it at the end of this year.
All rumours, but it sounds more like the real reason apple are trying to sue sammy.
With ios falling in market share compared to android, and sammy releasing phones quickly, who'd want an outdated iphone?
Rumours are the galaxy s 3, will have a 1.8-2.0ghz dual core cpu with processing capabilities that closely match a PC.
Role on sammy..... End of iphone is near!

Hmmm that's great news
I have to say that is very interesting information, logically it makes alot of sense since Apple isn't really a proper hardware manufacturer in the true sense where it actually manufactures the core components that make up a smart phone.

Yes, but Samsung's Galaxy S series of phones have always had the latest and greatest features available at the time of their release. This shouldn't be any different.
Those features are going to become standard on high-end phones by mid-2012
Edit: Only thing I disagree with is the 2GHz. That's just not practical.
Transformer prime runs at 1.3-1.4?GHz on Tegra3 and gets ~8 hours of battery life. That's with a tablet-sized battery. GS3 probably will ship with 1.2GHz or something, and it'll be up to XDA devs to push it to its' potential.
I have a hard time getting excited about new Samsung phones, because it seems like they always take forever to get released in the US.
I'm guessing an unannounced SGS3 probably won't be available on US carriers for until Christmas time. By then it's no longer exciting.

should I use my upgrade for a GS2 or wait for the GS3?
waiting for the S3 is the better choice i think .Other information say that the Samsung Galaxy S3 is with Quadcore-CPU, ICS, HD-Display and 12-MP-Camera
in February should Samsung release it or give us new information
It Rumors thet the S3 should be showing on the MWC 2012
The Quadcore-Prozessor of Galaxy S3 should be clocking at 1,5 or 1,6 GHz . The Special is the improvment in 3D. The Display should be an Super-AMOLED-HD-Display with 1.280 x 1.024and 326 ppi .
I hope its all true

Samsung BT S-Pen

Samsung has unveiled a new variant of the S-Pen, which comes bundled with all Note devices, called the BT S-Pen (BT standing for Bluetooth). It is, as far as I am aware, a regular S-Pen (albeit much larger for greater comfort) that connects to your Note device via Bluetooth and allows you to utilise it as a wireless-headset of sorts. Although bundled with pre-release test units of the Note 10.1 for journalists at their press conference, it simply utilises the regular technology of our Note 5.3 devices' S-Pens with Bluetooth to enable it to make and receive calls (meaning that it should work on the Note GT-N7000). Since one of the major complaints of the Note is the embarrassment of holding it up to your ear to make a phone call, I think this S-Pen is a fantastic accessory for the Note series. It can be charged via a Micro-USB port connected to the Note devices and apparently has 130 hours of standby time or 3 hours of talk time (not the best, but if you are like me and don't make too many calls that isn't a problem). Having been wanting a larger S-Pen to use around the house (the small one is fine out and about, but at home something larger would undeniably be more comfortable), this seems perfect. I shall be shelling out the cash for one as soon as it is available here in the UK, unless it is ridiculously priced. Who else likes the look of this?

Completely off-topic, but am I the only one finding the Note's community drastically dwindling? This is such a shame as, despite not having the best specification around in terms of raw power, the Note is still a very capable device and I think there are untapped opportunities for applications that would be useful when out of the house (hence, no good for a tablet which often are more reserved to home use and not a general pop to the store) but would not work on a regular phone's screen. In a way, I wish Samsung wasn't unveiling a Note 2 in a matter of days in Berlin. Since I am on contract and won't be able to upgrade till over a year, it's a shame to see the community here dwindling - and things will only be worse once the Note 2 is released.

Hopefully so. Since the S2 is apparently getting Jelly Bean, there is almost a definitive chance the Note will get Jelly Bean also! Let's just hope that Samsung finally fix the brick bug, which is a great cripple towards ROM development, eh?
Okay, so this is pretty cool. But I think it is suppose to be MORE for the Note 10.1 than the phone Note because it's huge, that wouldn't be comfortable or practical at all for our phone.

Weird. I think I would rather be seen talking into a slightly large phone than a pen.
I don't know how practical the Bluetooth pen will be. If your talking to someone with the pen, it's going to be very hard to use it to take notes or whatever.
And one handed operation on the note 5" our 10.1" wrote holding the pen to your ear is going to be impossible to do.
I guess it's only practical if you don't want to pull out the note from your pocket.
I still think head sets or earpiece are the way to go for hands free talking

Landmark ruling goes against Samsung in the US

http://www.dailytech.com/Doomsday+f...hly+Infringed+Apples+Patents/article25515.htm
My question is, that one of the affected phones is my brilliant Galaxy S2. What does this mean for it? Will samsung remove things like Pinch to Zoom in order to bypass a potential injunction against the incredibly popular Galaxy S2? Will the Galaxy S2 be lobotomized in the official stock firmware update which is also inturn going to be further delayed?
What will become of the the S2 now?
Man this sucks .!! now i hate apple even more .!

The injunction hearing is early September. And in all likelihood the S1 and S2 will be banned unless samsung updates the firmware to remove the infringing features OR gets a legitimate license from Apple.
I think Samsung will not want the "good old" Galaxy S2 lose popularity as quickly as possible. They will probably strip it down to comply and call it quits on it. Because there is no more money in this phone to be made. It is in Samsung's favor that everyone jumps ship to new Samsung phones as soon as possible. Although I don't know how they will handle the infringing functionality on the S3 or the Galaxy Nexus's. But I am mentioning the S2, because it was specifically mentioned...
This may mean the next Jellybean update could be delayed for the S2 or it may not even show up.

This lawsuit is just madness. The only ones suffering from it is the consumers. It will halt the development of technology.
The patent laws in the US just doesn't make sense. It is just stupid that you can take a patent on rounded corners. I have a dining table with rounded corners from IKEA. In theory Apple could make a lawsuit against IKEA.
But I think that this will come biting Apple back in the a** in forms of different counter lawsuits from firms. I once read that Motorola owns some WIFI technology that Apple uses in their iMacs.
The thing is, I thought Samsung proved that pinch to zoom existed as prior art. Shouldn't Apple's patent be invalidated?

"Pinch to zoom was first dreamt up decades ago by Myron Krueger and the University of Toronto developed and published papers on virtually equivalent technology almost 25 years prior to Apple producing its first multi-touch device (the iPhone), but Apple claims to have "invented" pinch-to-zoom as it appeared to be the first to do it in the context of a capacitive multi-touch screen."
These guys are actually serious? REALLY?
This is like the world's greatest robbery.
By banning Samsung products, Apple is somewhat monopolizing. I guess they couldn't handle competition, so the only thing they'll do is to sue the competitor..

WE LIVE IN A WORLD WHERE INNOVATION IS AKA INFRINGEMENT
I hope its true, that the ruling only applies to carrier galaxy s2 phones. I am not a developer or rooter or a user of custom roms. Too afraid and lack probably the knowledge to do all that jazz my S2. I rely primarily on stock roms from Samsung to update my phone. And to think the next update may just remove such "basic" features from my S2 is not a happy thought.
Damn Apple and its dirty tricks!
Meanwhile, Samsung is producing A5X and A6 processors in your factories.
In 1995, there was an opening from a Soap Opera in Brazil that a man uses tap to zoom in something like a tablet.

Pardon my ignorance, and sorry to our american peers, but even if this decision ultimately stands, wouldn't it just affect U.S. devices and their roms? And since I9100 is the international version of S2, until the courts from other countries come to the same verdict, how is the upcoming firmware updates affected?

Its not affected at all, for samsung USA Its only one of the market, maybe big but not more important than rest of the world and thats mean nothing for everyone else.

That ruling is very interesting, not only for Samsung or Android, but for every other Touch OS also:
-Tap to zoom
-2 finger zoom
-swipe to unlock
-hiding scrollbar
-Icon layout with fixed icons at the bottom (phone, sms etc)
-multitouch gestures
All patents of Apple now, so officially every manufacturer would have to remove those features...
I hope Google doesn't remove them from AOSP, but fight IF Apple starts a lawsuit against them.
btw. now I know why the S3 has that water unlock screen and no visible swipe to unlock gesture^^

How many of you will purchase it based on those features and looking? Discuss if you think its going to be worth it, etc.
Cheers
I won't because Samsung is not helping open source devs by releasing Exynos sources. Exynos is not open source friendly at the moment and the power of Android is the ability to customize your phone and install different types of roms, if i will have to wait Samsung to release an Android OS update after 6 months or live with stock based roms which are all the same apart some build.prop tweaks and deleted apps what's the point of having Android.
I'll personally send a big f**k to any new Sammie products and will wait until the next moto nexus or iPhone 6 whatever phone will be the best for me.

I asked you based on what you see presented mate I didn't include the bad parts of this whole thing
But that is a really good point of view! Although, I prefer to be using a S2 instead of an iPhone, due to Android.

You mean the hardware part? Well that's gonna be outadated anyway after a few months and the market needs a disruption, cores don't mean much anymore, people want something really innovative.

No source available for devs. Plus it's a f*****g shame to wait so long for official update of a FLAGSHIP phone.
You know S2 is dead and 4.2.1 will be the last version provided by CM for our device? This phone is one year and a half old and it's already dead. I will go for a nexus next time, that's for sure. I want a decent product follow up which is not the case on Sammie product and especially with their closed BS exynos chips.
When will the next Nexus generation be out?

The bet is somewhere in 2013...
I'd like to go for it, but as these guys pointed out, I'm annoyed about the closed nature of Exynos. To be honest, my ideal phone would be a nexus device but with expandable memory. Unfortunately that's the deal breaker for me.

I will stick to my galaxy s2 with my extended battery and custom rom running the latest android version possible. I dont feel the need for a new phone... yet...
If Galaxy S3 is released, I'll spend enough money to buy it, maybe the budget between 600 > 700$
sorry for my English
Xperia Z, superb device!

Until Samsung changes it's way of operating (not making their exynos projects open source) I won't be any Samsung phones. I rather go with Nexus devices. Keeping exynos closed source is a real setback for the majority of developers which in return limits the amount of innovation in roms.
S II is gonna get a lime pie update, remember that.
Now, about this s4 thing....is it 8.5 mm thick? it weights less than 116 gr? if not, sticking to S II.
I don't care for non-capacitive-buttons devices. How the hell would I know when to unlock my JB leak screen otherwise?
Actually my s2 is working pretty good for how I use it now, def need a new huge battery for the extra fun I could squeeze out of.
top comments do have a point but seriously with the active xda community, top rated forums r screaming Samsung all over.
Yea they're not so open , yea they're taking their sweet time with updates n such but seriously its a big thanks to all the devs who help n make what u have even better.
Back on track will I buy the next Sammie, depends on how much better it is... The s3 wasn't much of an improvement so I stuck with the s2 Currently running rootboxs version of jb and they're doing a great job , add to that dorimanxs kernel and u have a top of the line phone with the best options to tweak at hand for daily use/battery/performance/ no bloat what so ever.... The list goes on
Sorry for the long post I just had to get it out ^_^

Yeah wait a little time, the galaxy s3 is coming out within these few months, it's worth waiting though
sent with my homing pigeon
I will go for it !! As soon as I win the lottery :crying:
Sammie behaviour is not a deal breaker for u? Personally I won't allow the same company to f**k me twice in the a*s.
When I buy a flagship phone I want a premium support which is not the case at all.
I do expect a lot from the moto nexus. Or Sony maybe which is friendly with devs. Otherwise I'll return on the apple side waiting for THE Nexus phone,
And I don't speak about the lack of respect to the devs community after having offered them some GS2 promising a good cooperation and making me believe a bright future and a long life for this phone, they just get BS communication and disappointment. This lack of respect to the guys without who will would have this bull**** version of android made in Samsung. They have spent a lot of times to offer for free a great android version and they deserve a big thanks for all of us running their work on our s2. And now most of them are gone, some to the nexus others to Sony side due to Samsung behavior. I can not understand how a CM user may think of buying a Sammie phoen again.
