Buying note - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Were I can buy the note 4G LTE.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium

I believe currently the only place the 4G LTE Note is being sold is in Korea.
If you wait a bit you can purchase one from AT&T in the USA.

And if you wait a bit too, they will be up here in Canada - several vendors.
Although you need to ask yourself if the LTE is worth it compared to getting the international version now. Most folks on this forum are discussing and using that unlocked, uncripplewared, standarized, common cpu based version and since it appears from the current pre-specs that the LTE version will have to have a different cpu at the very least, you will not get the benefit of all the (this) development community has to offer. In some cases ( or opinions - including pinned to the forum section), you are in fact not getting a NOTE but a variant ( The Journal ...). Many are watching how different the LTE will be, but at least the cpu (a big deal) is different and most likely they will be locked to a vendor and possible more issues.

Since ATT is sending out threatening texts to unlimited users with grandfathered plans with as little as 2 gigs of use, I have no interest in LTE speeds. Ill get a warning in a day or two of LTE use.
The US wireless industry is f'd.
Translation: my international Note will be with me on ATT off contract as long as I can dodge their throttling threats. HSDPA+ is plenty fast for me.

Hands on an ATT Note

I checked to see if anyone had posted this but didnt notice any other threads. A guy over at the skyrocket forum got his hands on an ATT note to take some pics and run some benchmarks. Im satisfied with the results and will be picking up on launch day. Please dont make this thread, "Oh my exynos is better than your snapdragon" yeah we know. And your house is bigger, wife is hotter, car is faster, and your... Ill stop there.

Thanks for sharing this! After my experience with the whole GS2, Skyrocket arguments (I tested both well prior to release, and we all knowthe drama between the two) I didn't really want to stir anything up in here haha.
I have no first hand experience with the overseas version so I wouldn't dare to compare them.
I looked for a Att specific subforum but it seems they have not created one yet.
This guy is a good friend of mine, so if there are any other tests etc that people want me to run just let me know and I will do my best to do so.
My Exynos is better than your Snapdragon.

You've met my wife? Oh, and how did you know I put a turbocharger in my car? Most people can't tell off the track (and the engine is loud enough to keep you from hearing it spin up.)
Seriously, though, I'd be more concerned about having an AT&T locked phone than the Snapdragon processor. To take the processor out the equation, compare the GSII (i9100) to the AT&T version (i777) of the same phone. Same processor in both.
The AT&T version's radio is missing an entire band, the updates from at&t/samsung are lacking, etc. The i9100 already has an announced date of ICS for Q1, while at&t/samsung might never release ICS for the i777 (of course, the community will port it over from the i9100 once the sound driver and keypad issues are resolved, but that's not the point.)
I live in the US, and my carrier is AT&T. Today, I ordered the N7000. If AT&T's version also had an exynos and was available today, I'd still have ordered the N7000. The carrier already has me in thrall for wireless service - I don't want them ruining my phone as well.
Take care

Well said.
But isn't rooting and porting why most of us are here anyway?
Like I said above ...I have not tried to compare the two nor do I care to as I won't get either. If one does import the n7000 do they get lte in the us?

Haha mmmmm turbo.
I definitely agree that the restrictions/unnecessary additions ATT puts on their phones sucks (Ive ran Rogers roms for the last couple phones I've had) it really is just more of a continence thing for me. I work for best buy so I get a pretty good discount on phones and also just trade in or have my current phone serviced so I rarely pay for a phone. I also break phones pretty often (too much partying) so having a local and reliable warranty (again best buy) is huge to me

Perhaps, but the AT&T versions of phones tend to have hardware incompatibilities with other phones. For example, the sound libs on the i777 aren't compatible with the i9100. Unless AT&T decides to let samsung do an ICS version for the i777, the i777 may never have optimal audio. The folks working on porting CM9 to the i777 are basically having to start from scratch to write a new driver for the audio libs... not an easy task. Similar idea for the keypad support.

No. The N7000 lacks any LTE compatible radio. Of course, unless you live in one of only a dozen specific cities, you don't get LTE anyway. AT&T is pushing LTE phones for all it's worth, but doesn't seem to be putting the same effort into making LTE service available. One should also weigh the downfall of current LTE phones as well: battery life. If the AT&T variant of the note has the same size battery, expect the battery life to be somewhere between 20% (if the LTE radio is in use) and 80% (if there's no LTE signal) of the normal note. (This is purely a guess on my part based on my experience with the AT&T SII Skyrocket compared to the AT&T SII)
On the other hand, the N7000 (unlike any AT&T specific variant) will work on the other US GSM provider (tmobile.)
Yes, there are differences between the exynos and snapdragon S3. They've been beaten to death in other forums many times over. Exynos is usually faster, clock for clock, than the other currently available chips. HOWEVER, it doesn't support the newest generation of wireless radios (LTE.) It has other flaws as well (such as the long time to come out of suspend.)
I guess it comes down to this (in regards to the Note): If you use AT&T as a carrier, don't mind an AT&T hobbled phone (or can work around it) and LTE is very important (and available) to you, get the AT&T version. Otherwise, do some serious research before deciding - you might decide that spending the extra money for an unlocked phone (with no warranty) is worthwhile.
Does anyone know if AT&T has announced ICS plans for their version of the Note? (Preferably something more specific than their skyrocket announcement - which was only that the i727 would get it eventually...)
Take care
Gary
Sorry but the Note doesn't work on T-Mobile. Unless you count awful, slow 2g.

Hell they never give any concrete info regarding updates. The guys at Samsung here in Dallas claim it's Att and not them.
I am slightly biased on Att since I live in a strong LTE market. I was pretty certain they have been rolling out at least three cities a month since about November but I don't watch it ..I already have it haha.
I looked at the i9000 back before I even knew about the skyrocket and really regret not picking up one I found in a local resale shop...I was all set to buy the US version when I found out about the skyrocket and after testing LTE I had to have it.
It really is a case by case basis. If I didn't have LTE I really wouldn't care for the Skyrocket or any other LTE device like you pointed out.
Another bias I have is pricing. Utilizing multiple lines (6), rotating upgrades, and taking advantage of best buy's buy back program I don't actually pay anything for my phones haha

I have to back up Samsung here. I have an International GNote with the CSC DBT, which is Germany (The first country to launch the GNote) and when I got my phone there was one update waiting as soon as I connected to wifi and I have had two others since then. I fully expect to get ICS before the ATT version. ATT is not the best with updates, that is not up for debate.
I'll be interested to see how the 'burn-in' or 'image persistence' problem will hit the Note's screen; it seems to be a pretty prevalent problem in the AMOLED screen type. Have you noticed any issues yet?

I have only seen this on one Samsung phone, and that was an Epic touch on display at Best Buy...
none of ours have shown any signs of this (yet)
Not to place too much emphasis on it, but the Exynos really does perform better than the Snapdragon. This isn't speculative; this is an honest side-by-side comparison. Before the Note, I had a GS-II Skyrocket; which has the same LTE-compatible 1.5GHz Snapdragon as the U.S./AT&T Note. Before I continue, I should point out that the Snapdragon actually overclocks quite well; and at 1.7GHz+, it actually outpaces the Exynos at 1.4GHz. However, the Exynos experience is better... Not faster... Better! For example, a few good Gameloft games will run effortlessly on a Snapdragon device. While others won't run at all. However, any Gameloft (or other 3D game) that won't run on an Exynos, will run on an Exynos with Chainfire and some light tweaking. On the other hand, Chainfire doesn't offer anything to Snapdragon users. It'll install... It'll run... But it won't let you play any additional games. In addition to this, there are a great deal of mods and tweaks which function across all Exynos devices. Because the Exynos is so widely used in international Samsung devices, it has a very large development community. When I had my Skyrocket (which is 99% identical to the T-Mobile GS-II), all anyone ever talked about was running T-Mobile GS-II ROMs on the Skyrocket and vice versa. Whereas Exynos development affects a good number of devices.
Again, not to overemphasize it, but the Exynos is better. When you throw in carrier branding and SIM locks, it seems like a no-brainer to me.

If exynos, barrier branding and SIM locks were the only differences, it might very well be a no-brainer. There are MANY other issues, however. Including, but not limited to, LTE, carrier support and warranty, local availability (in the US), contract pricing, etc.
My personal choice is for the N7000. UPS should be delivering it "any minute now." For others, as has been expressed several times over, there are other considerations.
Sure, my exynos will be faster than their snapdragon. However, if they live in an LTE area, their data speeds will make my exynos-based phone look like an old 110 baud dial-up modem. As well, if my phone breaks, I'm going to be pressed to get it fixed/replaced. AT&T will let you bring it into a store or will cross-ship a replacement. For free.
Gary
Well, you're entitled to your opinion; but as far as network speed goes, AT&T LTE is a joke. I have used AT&T LTE & HSPA+, and HSPA+ is more consistent and more widely available; even if I got up to 20Mbps on LTE. And I average 8-10Mbps on HSPA+. You can call that slow all you want, but we all know better.
Sent from my SPH-P100 using xda premium
Agreed....LTE speedtests out of this world but realworld tests are not significantly faster.
I've had my Hspa+ (mine's identified by ATT as a Skyrocket) Note (overclocked to 1600) side by side with a cache cleared LTE skyrocket, both with excellent signals, and just downloaded graphic heavy sites side by side...the difference was repeatedly literally negligable, in fact Note was faster more often.
Skyrocket kicks Notes ass on the speedtest tho.

Skipping LTE

Anyone in the U.S planning on just getting the international version and not worrying about LTE? I am leaning towards the international version because of the processor and probably better rom support.
I have an international s2 right now and I am not sure I really care about lte speed when it's barely supported right now. I guess the only real issue would be the huge price difference.

That's true but Tmobile is supposed to get a non LTE version and it will be much cheaper than the international version if you buy it on contract.
It depends on your location. If you have no LTE where you live, but has 3G, then international version is good idea. Also it will inevitably gets more developers than carrier locked version and has better resale value.

I do have lte in my city, but not sure if it really matters to me. There is free wifi almost everywhere these days, and I am guessing lte coverage is going to be pretty spotty since it is so new.
I guess since I upgrade my phone once a year, I would be fine without lte for another 6-12 months.

International.
Philly doesn't have LTE yet, but probably soon.
I like having the physical button on front to wake the phone, us versions usually don't have that.
Less bloat.
To make up the price difference I'll probably get the iphone 5 on contract when it comes out later this year and sell it on ebay.

I am on AT&T and we are about to get LTE but I really don't care. I am a WiFi consumer 99.99999% of the time so I would rather have this phone with the hopes I will get updates to JB in the fall quicker and that the ROMS will come faster.
International.
I live in Northern part of LA, we have 4G LTE with ATT. But I always have wifi available where ever I go, even work. I'd rather have a better processor, ROM support, faster updates than 4G LTE that I'll honestly hardly ever use. I guess I'm fine with ATT FAKE 4G.

I already decided to skip LTE with the N7000. I don;t use enough carrier data to need it. I prefer the MediaNet $10 UL data. I barely use 1GB a month. Enough to have to pay $30 but not enough to get "value" for that money. I use WiFi almost 100% of the time. 3G+ can stream video without issues. I am ok with that.
LTE is probably great for those who have or don't want to pay for Home Intermet Service and tethers. I have no use for it at this time.
Tough to go back to carrier branded after having the more widely spread international versions.
I may get rid of my at&t Note, and use whatever funds I receive from that to get 1 of these intl versions.
Or, I might just get an intl Note instead...if the screen size and s-pen really is a good reason for why I want to stay Note.
Will the international version work with Tmobile? pros and cons?

[Q] Is there an international model with AT&T LTE?

After searching and running into various answers (and perpetual confusion), I'm confused about which S5 I should purchase. I would much rather buy an international version from a seller on eBay if I can get LTE bands in the states. I've freed myself from carrier devices for almost two years now and the thought of going back is awful (even though I probably will if I have to). Anyway, can someone give me a clear answer. Which variant do I need to buy?

Get an accurate answer from Samsung. Or Carrier X, win a prize.
Samsung doesn't want you buying a lower priced phone from another country, it cuts into their quarterly profit results and they actively deter so called grey market sales in a number of ways. Nor will carriers make it easy for you to jump ship. So easily accessible and accurate information is difficult to come by.
As far as I can tell, the S5 hardware is release 10 compliant. Meaning that baring artificial firmware restrictions, the S5 in your hand is capable of working on all of the GSM and LTE frequencies in use or in the process of being deployed, worldwide.
If you are not relying upon a subsidized handset or can find the right deal, I'd suggest purchasing the TMobile variant (SM-G900T) for use on ATT. The TMobile S5 works on ATT LTE, has the substantial advantage of an unlocked bootloader & has more accessible bands, an advantage for roaming on other networks.
AFAIK, the TMobile variant supports all of the ATT bands. You'll find posts agreeing with me and posts disputing this. All I can tell you is that there are a lot of misinformed people and I haven't seen anyone credibly dispute it. The specs say that it should work, there are lots of reports of it working and firsthand I've seen good data speeds; 50+ Mbps speeds in some ATT cities.
If you were looking at some specific Ebay auction and /or specific international model, you didn't spell that out nor give us any specifics so it's impossible to give you useful advice on that point. Many of the international variants have firmware restrictions supporting HSPA+ and not "ATT" LTE.
The best advice of course is always caveat emptor.

I just bought the T-Mobile variant (900T) which I'm hoping was the best choice. The international models that I could have bought on eBay (900F,H, I) were missing at least one AT&T LTE band.

[Q] So confused with all the variants

Hi, I've been a S4 user and a very intrigued reader on this website. XDA has taught me many great things about my Sprint S4. I'm now ready to make the leap to the Note 4 and I'm so confused with all of the different models available.
Here's what I want the phone to do:
- I live in the US, and I would like to set up the phone on the Straight Talk or AT&T network and I obviously want to take advantage of the fastest speeds Straight Talk/AT&T offers.
- I am traveling to England in the Summer for a month and I would like the phone to work on one of their networks. (I would like to have 4G, but if 3G is the only compatible band than that's fine, as long as I'm getting some sort of data).
- I travel to Canada on a monthly basis and I would like my Note 4 to be able to run on the Rogers Network and utilize the fast speeds Rogers offers.
Basically, which Note 4 model will satisfy my needs? I just want to take advantage of the fastest bands available in these places. I've been leaning towards the N910H because my understanding is that it is compatible with all of my above requirements. Is this true? If not, which model should I be look at?
Thank you!

Thank you!

I can't say for certain about Rogers Canada, but the US T-mobile variant- SM-910T- is what I have, and you should look into it. Maybe someone with Rogers can chime in about that.
It's 100% compatible with AT&T's fastest LTE bands and most 4G GSM bands used in Europe. It has an unlocked bootloader for easy rooting/ROM-flashing. There is an awesome XDA section devoted to it with some great ROMs and other tweaks. Of course, the major benefit is that if you stroll into a T-mobile store any buy one, it will have a warranty and service options if something were to possibly be wrong with it. Now, you'll need to get the phone SIM-unlocked either through T-mobile directly or an online sim-unlocking service (~ $20-30)
If you wanna spend less in the States, the 910T sells on craigslist, swappa, ebay, etc in pretty large numbers and it's very easy to obtain one in mint condition for a lot less than retail. Obviously, make sure that the device has a good IMEI through swappa.com before buying it used.
I find that lots of people buy the Note 4 and decide to sell it after a while- either they prefer something smaller, or an iPhone, or any number of other reasons like wanting extra cash, but there's tons of em on craigslist here in Chicago.
I bought a Sprint Note 4 in perfect condition from a guy for $350 the other week. Not saying you will necessarily have that type of luck, but just something to ponder.
i use 910U on rogers and AT&T gophone. also used it in the UK, most of europe and asia. this is an exynos taiwan variant with LTE. may not give you the fastest speeds everywhere but its awesome.
In the UK we get the Snapdragon 910F, but the 910H looks good according to the bands I've seen online (I don't know if they're correct mind!)
In the UK different networks use different bands (900, 1800, 2100, etc) for 3G; with some of the bands being shared amongst companies these days. Ideally you want a device that supports 900Mhz UTMS, and the 910H supports the band. The 900Mhz band has better indoor coverage than the higher frequencies as well.
Again 4G is on different bands depending on your provider, but the networks share most of the spectrum at the moment to reduce costs. I believe 4G is on 800, 1800, and 2600Mhz

IDK about LTE, but phones for China/HK will work on our 3G networks. I've tried a few 3G iphone knockoffs and had no issues.

Which S5 version is best?

Hi all.
I'm looking to support several phones for family and friends. I'm a Note3 user, but its too big in the hand for some people. I've settled on the S5 as a pretty good phone for a few years. But which model?
We will be pyrcgasing phones according to tgis advise. Don't currently have one.
I'm in Australia so maybe that matters. I see there are quad core and octo core variants as well as 4g and non 4g versions. Here in Australia the lower bands are getting switched off. No 2g soon at least in some places.
I rememver that 4g was a battery hog when it first came out. So i wonder if that narrows the choices to only specific models. Plus of course I'll be using a custom ROM. Any advice on leading candidates for ROMs to look at also appreciated
