[Q] How to get stock SDcard back after root of nook color - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just used Clockworkmod 16 gig to root my nook color. Now that its done I want my 32 gig class 4 card back to stock to utilize its full capacity. How do I unpartition the card. I used win32diskimg to write to the card. My windows 7 will only acknowledge that there is ~14 gigs on the card.
Please help I am a noob but I can follow directions. I'm actually also wanting to do this so I can bring my nook back to stock and then dual boot the color encase something goes wrong I can get it looked at at B&N.
Thank you all for the help. I search the forums and couldn't find a fix.

[Q] SD Card problems

I have a 16gb sd card and I had successfully put Honeycomb onto it as a bootable SD for the nc but then it shows only 1.25GB remaining space when the boot should of been 4gb only?
dont know where the missing gb's are and also if I try to format it in my phone or xp pc - it only shows 117MB as formattable space.
How do I get my 16gb sd back?
you can try easeus partition master to expand it to recover the remainder i think. By the way, how did you get honeycomb on your 16gb, i have trouble trying to get cm7 on my 16gb, apparently 16gb is problematic.
i just followed the steps in the intructions here on xda and it worked

[Q] New SD Card

I'm putting anew 16gb card into my nook to replace the 2gb that is currently in. What do I need to do to make sure everything works correctly? This nook running CM7 is only 2 days old so I really don't have installed yet.
If you plan to use the card for running CM7 or phiremod you need a sandisk class 2 or 4 card. If not, there are no card issues that I'm aware of. If you're asking about moving your apps I'd just reinstall. Titanium Backup is the preferred app for backing up and restoring apps if you want to try it. There are threads about moving CM7 card installs to larger cards. I think you just image the old card, put the image on the new card and expand the partition to fill the new card.
I found a Sandisk microsdhc 32GB class 4 on amazon for $59.
Would it work?
"Would it work?"
Dunno.
This thread is the clearinghouse for all info about which sd cards work for booting. There's not enough information about 32GB cards yet to know how it would work. That's a decent price though so it might be fun to get one and try.

Nook Color Noob Questions

Hello, I new to the Nook Color. I just ordered a couple for the kids for X-Mas. I'm no stranger to rooting etc. As I understand it CM7 will be running off the Micro SD card correct? Does it matter what type of card I use? Does anything get saved to the NC internal memory such as downloads etc? My big question is, Does the Micro SD card's class have any effect on performance? Would getting a class 10 vs class 2 make a difference? Thanks.
The higher the class the faster the performance it will be if ur running the rom from the sd card which you plan to do.
I am running from internal memory but all my stuff is saved on the memory card naturally, I don't have to guide it there it just does it.

Will it perform better from internal memory than class 10 micro sd? If so is there a guide to do this and would it still require an external card for other stuff? I plan on using CM7 stable and the guides I've seen are for booting from external.
Check this post it might help you decide on what sd card to use and wether to run from internal memory or external: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18430544

Thanks... I must have missed this in my search(es).
It has been extensively discussed here. The class is less important than getting a Sandisk card. Class 2 or 4 are fine. They will perform about as well as internal memory. Any others brand, even those with a higher class will suffer more FC's and not perform as well. My class 6 PNY WAS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO A CLASS 4 Sandisk.
I don't know the thread, but it is well documented and should be able to find via search.
My recommendation would be to run CM7 off the internal eMMC and use a blank SD card for backup and storage. In that case it doesn't really matter what card you use but since they are all fairly cheap these days I would get an 8GB card class 6 or higher. One for each Nook. Also get a 3rd card that you will use as a bootable card for the installation. Keep that card handy in case you ever need to reinstall CM7 or if you need to restore to stock for a warranty claim. I kept mine and keep a copy of my currently nightly (201) as well as a full stock ROM (1.3). I already had to make use of it once when I needed to have my Nook replaced under warranty.
Thanks everyone for helping me get pointed in the right direction. I plan on installing CM7 to internal memory and have everything I need to get started.
I don't know if you care, but I would do a first run on the Nook Color and register the device with B&N prior to wiping it and installing CM7 in case you run into warranty issues (such as replacing the USB cord) which you will need to have registered for.
Otherwise +1 on the Sandisk micro SD cards, class # across manufacturers varies wildly. My Sandisk class 4 16GB card outperforms both my class 6 PNY and Transcend 8GB cards in small writes/reads. I had random force closes on the Transcend when I first installed CM7 before I switched to the Sandisk.
EMMC > SD install if you like to tinker with your installs --- the agnostic sd card image here has a barebones recovery and you will not be able, afaik, to manually wipe partitions etc if you so desire or flash non-signed roms and themes (please correct me if I'm wrong, which I very well may be).
I used to dual boot (stock EMMC, CM7 SD card) but as things have progressed this year there's no reason for me to stick to even nootered stock --- the performance difference between stock and CM7.x is massive, and the big bugs have been fixed (SOD, battery drain). Even if you like the default reader app, there's great generic ereaders out there (and now with Overdrive app from Google Market, the ability to borrow DRMed epubs like you could with the native Nook reader client).
Just one note I would add to the above. When deciding between an internal install and dual boot, note that some have reported issues with the latch for the sd card breaking with frequent removals of the sd cards. This latch repair requires factory return. I, personally, would recommend internal install with an sd card for storage. This will prevent frequent removal of the sd card and will extend the life of the card latch.
Just my two cents.....

You don't have to remove the sd card to boot stock.. just power up while holding the N button and you will be given a choice of which system to boot.. this is true if using the Size Agnostic procedure documented here on XDA.

The point is well-taken because every time you update your rom, you'll have to take out the card, BUT you have to do that even with the internal memory (emmc) install. But as the previous post indicated, you don't need to take out the card just to boot to stock. I would strongly recommend that you not install the rom to the emmc until after your warranty expires. That way, if you have any problem with the NC, you can simply take out the card, and you're back to stock, i.e. none of the "restore to stock" stuff you'd need to do if you put CM7 on the emmc.

without re installing cyanogenmod on the usd, is there a way to move all partitions from a 2gb to a 16 gb micro

I assume you have CM installed on SD. You can use win32diskimager to write an image file of the SD to your PC. Then put your new SD in and write the image to it. It will still only be 2GB on the card, but you can use Mini-Tool Partition Manager (free on web) to fix that. First I would move partition 4 a little to the right so that you can expand partition 3. On a 2GB SD, verygreen made partition 3 only 612MB and it really needs to be larger. 1 or 2 GB. Then expand partition 4 to fill the rest of card.

Get a copy of Easeus ToDo Backup Free. It will allow you to clone the 2gb onto the 16 gb sd and use all the available space in one step.
Not to thread jack but,
I am having trouble doing this exact thing too. I used winimage to "read" my working sd card. Then put my new 16gb sd card into my usb adapter and "write" the boot.ima image to the new card. Both reading and writing take about 5 seconds.
When I put the new card into my nook, the nook just boots into stock.

Don't use winimage. I have found it troublesome. It should take much longer than 5 seconds. Use win32diskimager.

Thanks, tried win32 and it worked. I knew there was something wrong when it only took 5 seconds to write the image.

[FIX] sandisk 64gb micro sd card

Like alot of you, I recently had alot of trouble with my sandisk 64gb micro sd card. this fix is pretty easy but it worked for me! so check it out:
you need two programs: SD formatter( can be found on the sandisk website) and easeus partiton master( you can use any program that lets you format partitions)
you will also need the sd card adapter to put you micro in, and an sd card reader
Step 1: connect your sandisk 64gb microsd card to the computer with the adapter it came with in the box. My laptop has the sd card reader built in
I dont think it will work unless you connect it this way.
Step 2: open sd formatter, it should have recognized your card if not click refresh. after its recognized click Options and set format type to full (overwrite) format the sd card. this will take a long while so you might wanna go watch tv or something?
step 3 : after its done formatting open partition master and right click on the sd card and format it to fat32. your going to have to click apply on the top right hand corner for it to work
you should be set. DONT FORMAT IN THE ANDRIOD SETTINGS. for some reason when ever i fixed the micro and tried formatting it in my phone it would mess up everything thing again.
I keep a 32 gb in my s4 now and use my 64 in my note 10.1 because i need the space there more. Let me know if this works for you!

It really depends on the troubles you have, most of them are some kind of incompatibility with the S4 firmware and the 64GB SD card and formating this will not help. My issue was each time i'd put music on my SD, my system status would trip to custom, also my music would not always show up at boot. This has been a recurring problem with the sandisk cards no matter how i formated it. And yes, i did use SDFormater 4.0 and still had the issue. My only solution was to get a Samsung 64GB SD and no issues since
Sometimes mine removes itself, but a media rescan or reboot fixes it. Doesn't really bother me.
I use a 64gb PNY class10 and its flawless for me.I think the issue is witg the sandisk bran.

Figured this is a good thread to post my experience.
I had a MicroSD card I thought was bad. What happened was I was formatting the device to ext4 at the time using a older microSD USB adapter i had. Basically, the microSD card reader died while it was in that process. Using a microSD > SDAdater and a built in SD card slot on my laptop I was unable to format the drive in Windows or MacOS. (I was formatting the device via the USB reader on my Desktop in Ubuntu). Ubuntu does not see my card reader on my laptop so I was unable to use that). I thought I killed it. It was a SanDisk microSDXC 64gb card.
So I ordered a new Samsung microSDXC and a new microSDXC USB card reader. I got them both. New card worked great. I decided to play with the card a bit. Using Ubuntu, gparted specifically, with the new adapter I could no create or modify partitions on the old microSD card. It would fail out every time, different errors for ext4, exFAT and Fat32. So. In Gparted I went to Device > Write new partition table. After I did that I would able to format the drive in Ubuntu to whatever filesystem I wanted, and the card works in the phone, mac, windows, everything.
Just a heads up to help any others with issues. Rewriting the partition table may help if somehow it gets corrupt because of some write fail,
I ve 2 64gb sandisk 10x microsd with Samsung S4 I9005 with Android 4.3. I formatted with android, also Windows 7 64bit with various types of sizes on laptop. However on laptop or on phone after writing some files and disk scanning, it gives many disk errors. I wonder if it is software or microsd hardware problems. There is no problem with 32 gb.

Found the Culprit!
Considering I encountered this write protect error TWICE with the exact same product, and after having read forums that show it's a common problem, I conclude that the problem is with either this specific SanDisk product or a particular batch of this product:
Exact product specs: SanDisk Ultra 64 GB MicroSDXC Class 10 UHS-1 Memory Card with Adapter (SDSDQU-064G-AFFP-A)
These carry a lifetime warranty. A word of advice: if you go for a replacement, ask for a different 64GB model, or try a different size of the same model (I got 2 x 32GB cards instead). If they insist on giving back the exact same model, I'd suggest you use that card anywhere except a smartphone!
