Regarding flashing Glitch.v14-pre5 bootloop fix - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hi all
since i cannot post in Developer's apropriate forum i share with you here..
I have tried all ICS rom there is (not that many yet..) with Glitch v14 pr5 kernel, and they ALL give me bootloops... if not right away then after some period of time, and there is NO way to enter CWM
So i reflashed many many times in odin with different stock and other roms, but always with same result bootloops or a glitch screen logo that dont go any further.
Only if i go in recovery and format ALL options avalible and do a wipe data/factory reset afterwards + run the reset nstools zip avalible (off course only if you have been installing the glitch kernel )
Only then i get a error free install + i can boot in CWM and reboot whitout getting these errors......
Then im able to install > [ROM]SGS ICS 4.0.3 Doctor's ROM [01-12-2012]
and running on day 2 whit out any errors now..
Using nstools to oc and undervolt, is working fine selecting one of the 2 new goveneurs interactiveX or smartassv2 and DIDDLE deep sleep working perfect, BUT nstools wont tel you i always shows 0 in idle time (its nstolls fault) but voltage control EXTREME shows the right numbers
EDIT: Forgot to say that i pulled the externel sd card before going into CWM ! and do NOT deactivate nctools in app maneger !
Hope its ok posting this here ? plz delete or move else admins

[Q] JVP really slow when booted with bluetooth on

I've flashed new JVP into my SGS using ramad's deodexed firmware with CF-root kernel and JKay skin. Then I restored my backup and used it for some time. After one reboot I noticed that it suddenly got much slower than it was - before I got quadrant score of 1900-2200, after it dropped to ~1300. After some investigation I found that there must be some problem with my settings - if I use some "clean" database (com.android.providers.settings) it works like it should but with my backed'up data it works fine only if I boot it with bluetooth turned off.
Can someone suggest what could have I done wrong?
Try to re-flash and use the stock Kernel, then see if you get the same problem. If not then only restore /data applications (Never restore /system applications) and see again if you get a problem, and so on..
You need to find out at which stage you get the problem, this could help isolating the problem so you can help finding a solution by finding out what cause it... in the way you are asking every member will give you a theory, try to find out by your self, devices are all different and so are the applications/settings/Kernels are all different on members devices.
Sorry for beeing so vague on the first post.
I did tried to isolate the problem - reflashed everything at least 10 times with different configurations. The result is I can show the exact moment when after restoring the backup phone starts to act weird.
Unfortunately the problem probably lies somewhere in my old settings as restoring only this one piece into the clean firmware (or - as my steps were - after flashing cf-root and installing theme) doesn't activate the slowdown. Unfortunately I also did a mostly clean restore - restoring only things I really need (contacts, bookmarks etc.) and only a few applications with data and for the rest of backup only applications. It didn't help.
Today I'll try another way - I'll reflash it and then restore only applications without any data and see what would happen.
Ok. So I did another round and for now I'm satisfied with the result.
What I did was:
1. reflash deodexed JVP
2. restored my user apps with data from backup
3. restored pieces of system data and configured missing settings
it worked fine up until this point
4. reflashed to CF-Root kernel - it seems this broke my setup. I'm certain that there must be something in my config/installation that when added to CF-Root and bluetooth introduces slowdowns.
5. as I needed my theme I just flashed it using CF-Root's CWM and after that I reflashed back to the stock kernel - everything returned to normal - quadrant score was back up at ~1300 (from around 700 with CF)
6. as I also wanted to convert to ext4 I flashed a Speedode kernel and I test the speed - it showed stable 1300
7. converted to ext4 using SpeedMod's CWM then rebooted and retested with quadrant - it holds fine at around 2200.
This closes the case for me for now

Good work, and you did it all on your own
Now you know what was the cause for your trouble and how to deal with such problem next time.
For others that find themselves in a similar predicament, but want an alternative method (or workaround), then keep reading.
I too am using Ramad's deodexed Rom's with CF-Root & have similar problems.
Ramad, I know it's not your Roms.
There is definitely something flaky after flashing CF-Root (no disrespect to Chainfire) , as I can replicate the faults again & again & again, with only the deodexed Rom & CF-Root, APN & WiFi setup. No user apps or anything else on the phone at this stage.
Certain problems then arise (lag is often noticed first) after the phone is restarted while ever WiFi & BT are both turned on prior to restarting the phone.
See my posts in the CF-Root thread here (Posts #2151 & #2152) which lists a few other problems which arise after flashing CF-Root, along with my workaround in post #2152.
It'd be great if Chainfire was able to get this issue fixed, as a workaround is never as good as a permanent fix.
If anyone found my workaround worked for them, feedback is definitely welcome.

[TELUS T959D Fascinate]-Running ONECOSMIC'S ICS

Hello.
This is where you can look at the tutorial and get the files to install if you feel like jumping into it ...
ICS Step by step and files
Note: if you do flash this and it hangs at the boot screen, pull the battery and flash it again and it should work. Some have had to do it 3 times.
I take no credit for this ROM and full props go to the developers of the above post and all those working to make this happen.
First the look and feel of ICS is nothing short of superb. The speed as of now is similar to all the other ROMS I have tried with a little chop here and there but nothing major.
Yes lots of little issues and items that do not work like the camera and GPS but not a huge deal for me so I am willing to stick to it.
Battery so far is decent. 13 hours and 43 min. on the first charge to calibrate and sitting at 24% still. This included allot of playing with the phone and reboots to test jigs
As for the issues that are somewhat bothersome, they include the following.
1. No home or search button. I know same as usual when installing an i9000 ROM but the key mappings from the GB ROMS does not work.
2. BLN (issue all around) will remain lit until you wake the phone to get the notification.
3. They had to do some funky stuff to get 3G to work so it lags to start. Not a huge deal cause it does start and remain working.
I will be continuing to use this ROM and hopefully everything will be working soon (these guys are flying. Also I have been told that the folks over at Glitch are already working on the kernels for the ICS port so that is promising as well.
If there are any other out there running this on our phone chime in with your thoughts or fixes if you have any.
Thanx
Bucky
Thanks for starting this thread. Can't wait to hear about your progress.
Alpha 7
Hey here is the update ...
Installed the Alpha 7 update today and I have to say this rom is fantastic.
1. Camera is fixed and works like a charm.
2. GPS locked in seconds and accurate indoors!! Big improvment over all other roms I have used.
3. HW Acceleration is fixed and working from what I can tell
4. You Tube is fixed and can watch video
Still on the not working list
1. Can not plug the phone in while off as it just restarts. this is a work in progress and known issue
2. Can not record video
3. Will not read a SIM card for contacts and so on (thank god for Google sync)
4. Still no home or search buttons (I think I may need to work on that on myself unless a kernel is released)
SO my review so far ...
No real issues with the general use of the phone. Text, phone, email and web are solid, I have installed apps from the market with no issues and not one FC yet. Battery life is good and nothing is taking over. I have been able to use the phone all day and still have lots left over before going to bed and plugging in. I have not been through a full battery as of yet but that is what I am working on now.
Memory - Last I looked I had 174MB of memory remaining which is the highest I have seen.
ICS is really smooth and fast while moving around. I am going to continue to play with it and report back here for everyone.
I don't use a whole lot of apps so there won't be much regarding those.
Thanx for stopping by and I will post pics when I can.

Thanks for the update. From your review, it sounds like an awesome rom. Can't wait to try it but need them to fix the video recording first. Although I might just cave and try it out just to see what the fuss is all about
Can always restore my current setup... lol.
Update ...
been getting the SOD today and not sure why, I mentioned above that the HW acceleration was working, I misunderstood and it is not fully working yet.
I found that the system partition is very small. There was an update which required copying libs and there was not enough space left to do this (2MB). Not too sure if this is due to coming from MIUI or just a ROM issue.
Alpha 8 was released but had quite a few issues so not flashing that one.
Daily use has been great so far (except for the SOD) with no reception or data issues.
I am still working on the home and search buttons but I think that will get fixed with a kernel update. I tried the keymap file but these buttons do not even register in recovery so I get nothing in the ROM either.
More to come ...
Haven't tried this (likely won't as I need the phone for work) but buck have you tried the manual key fix - some directions in our thread on putting on Darkys 10.3.

Hey buck , was doing some searching in teamhacksung's thread about their ICS port, and someone suggested to change the following and then the key mapping for our phones will work properly. Not sure if the file system is the same for both, but definitely a bit of info if it isn't!
All you have to do is change this part on**arch/arm/mach-s5pv210/mach-aries.c*

Hey, have a telus fascinate too. Know how to flash and all that fun stuff. Just don't fully follow where you make the changes for key mapping...if you could just guide me in the right direction, I can figure the rest out...
changes in the kernel zip? the beta zip? after flashing? something completely different?
thanks a lot!
There are no changes to be made with this ROM, they are built in. Just flash and all good.
I will post update tonight after work.

There are allot of BT related posts in the QA. I personally do not use any BT but I do have a headset that I will try when I get home.
Seems to be a battery drain issue too as my phone is now dead but I have not calibrated so we will see after I do that.

AT LEAST YOU GUYS HAVE IT RUNNING!!
I am having a hell of a time trying to get it to work. I have tried so many different ways to get it up and running but no luck.
I've tried installing it from MIUI 3 times but all I get when trying to boot into ICS for the first time is a Black Screen after the FuguMod boot screen.
The funny thing is that the 4 soft buttons at the bottom light up still.
So I then decided to try the JVT way:
-Flashed JVT DARKYROM (ODIN)
-Lagfix OFF
-FULL WIPEs (factory reset, cache, dalvik)
-FLASHED CM7.1 STABLE
-FULL WIPEs (factory reset, cache, dalvik)
-Flash ICS BETA1
-Flash kernel
-FOR THE SECOND TIME:
-Flash ICS BETA1 AGAIN
-Flash kernel AGAIN
Same issue, black screen after the FuguMod boot screen, buttons still light up.
So i tried a couple more times in a few different ways based off what I have already tried, but this time, before booting into ICS for the first time, I installed the 'Superuser-3.0.6-efgh-signed.zip' package.
Same issue. I'm not having any luck here.

OK so here is what I did ...
Started from MIUI 1.11.18
1. Do a nandroid backup
2. download all the files to the SD card. This includes the ROM, Kernel and super user fix
Links:
Kernel:http://ice-cream-sandwich-sgs.googlecode.com/files/FuguModICS_GT-I9000_update.zip
ROM:http://ice-cream-sandwich-sgs.googlecode.com/files/ICS_4.0.1_r1-Beta1-i9000.zip
Super User:http://ice-cream-sandwich-sgs.googlecode.com/files/Superuser-3.0.6-efgh-signed.zip
3. Boot to recovery and do factory reset, wipe cache and davlik cache
4. Install the Kernel first and reboot now
5. Boot into recovery factory reset and wipe cache and Davlik and Install the ROM then reboot now
6 Boot back to recovery and install the Kernel again with out the wipe
7. If after reboot you do not have root then boot to recovery and flash super user fix
8. reboot and it should be working at least it was for me
It seems to me that you are missing the first flash of the kernel before the ROM. It sets up the file system from what I gather
Note: If needed flash the kernel and rom then kernel again with all the wipes as mentioned above.
I know there are allot of folks having issues getting it to run. Not too sure if it was the way I installed MIUI that might have made the difference.
My battery is charging now so I can calibrate it and see how it goes after that (it drained pretty quick today) lol.
I hope you can get it going cause it truly is awesome
Still not working:
Can not charge with the phone off
Google TTS stops working
Phone will not vibrate for SMS or email when in silent mode
BLN stays on for notifications until the phone is taken out of sleep (can be turned off)
Compass is why off (have not attempted to calibrate yet though)
11 MB left in the system partition (not much but I do not think there will be many changes there)
Video play back is choppy and some will not play
Bucky
regarding the black screen:
- had that too... I let it sit on the black screen for 2-3 minutes and then it went to the boot screen animation (a multi-coloured )...that for a few minutes...then finally booted.
How i got it working:
a) Started on MIUI...booted into clockwork
b) Backup
c) Wipe data / factory reset and cache and dalvik cache
d) Install rom and then kernel
e) Restart
f) Install rom and then kernel
g) Restart and wait very patiently for a little while
h) Once it all works, can reboot into clockwork and install superuser
Good luck! I really think the rom is nearly stable enough for daily use...
-------
Also have the no vibrate on silent... haven't tried the other stuff yet.
Oh and TTS hasn't crashed on this version yet for me...
Astrid glitches a little to a lot.
Changing from google tts to picco tts solves the problem there. As for the other stuff it is all reported as known.
I am using as a daily on my phone and no issues with general use. Still testing battery and that seems to be a bit of an issue with regard to Android OS as usual

[Q] Everything gone wrong.

It's currently 7am on monday morning, and I have college. I haven't slept at all because my [red lens] defy has been giving me problems.
I've been trying to re-flash CM7 to get a clean install of it, with no frills/apps that I've installed over time.
I've done a factory reset through CWM, and re-flashed CM7.1 from here:
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=umts_jordan
I've tried finding GApps for this, but to no avail. None of them install properly (CWM says they have, but actually hasn't - It's nowhere on my app drawer/home/manage apps).
I've tried adding an account to sync but when it asks what google products I want to install (such as YouTube, Maps, StreetView), it crashes mentioning "process com.teamdouche.pacman"
That's problem 1
Problem 2 is my Home and Search button no longer work! I've tried everything I could google for, but nothing has helped.
[Edit: they do vibrate, but nothing happens]
Any help on these matters would be much appreciated, as this is really annoying :/ Thanks.
Also I've just realised the apps in Manage Applications are all my old apps, even though I've actually formatted my SD card in CWM since, each has a SD card icon, and is taking up 0.00B space, but I'm just wondering how they even show there..
Did you try flashing the CM7 kernel ?
Or did you mount /system ?

I've managed to get Market installed, but it only opens once, and when I try to download something it Force Closes, and then after that it force closes when I open it.
Flash stock rom for noow ....

dude, restore stock room, and try flashing an official cm7, what i think is that the room that you flashed is corrupted or something like that
1º: Reflash a stock room
2º: Get a official stable CM7 room ( http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=umts_jordan )
3º: Don't forget to wipe all data, cache and dalvik cache.
4º: See if that works and thank me for this
EDIT:
Here is a link to Gapps, just in case (http://goo-inside.me/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip )
good luck with your defy

Maybe it has something todo with Auto Brightness and you set it so Low before you upgrade it to 7.2 because i noticed there's that bug in that version , i suggest to flash Multifunctional Kernel by X AnwarMov but if you want the Stock RR ROM kernel then flash it , fix the auto brightness ( by set the brightness slider to middle or really high and turning the auto off ) and then reflash the RR ROM stock kernel

You Know , you still able to connect via USB to computer from TWRP Recovery ( Dec Build ) By Quanganh just look for the option ( this will make the proses easier ) , but so far as i remember if you want to backup the internal memory you have to boot normal and plug the USB ( Depend if your device if locked )
Sorry for Late Answering
and as you know this is according to my logic so correct me if i'm wrong

You're right It was due to the auto brightness setting ! I turned it off and everything turned out fine. Anyway, I've switched to a stock based custom ROM for the time being, I'll definitely come back for RR 5.6 !

(Please reply)Facing a strange problem while flashing miui Pro

Last few days I tried to use custom ROM. Volte doesn't work. I've given up on that issue now. Now problem is Miui pro.
After flashing it keeps showing boot logo ( I waited for more than 30 minutes) but the older version (7... Something) flashes without any problem.
How long should I wait to complete it's booting process( more than an hour??!!!!!)
P.s- device encryption is enabled [ but I don't think it's causing the problem cuz older version is doing fine]

Download this and flash like normal rom.
First clear data, dv-cache, system,
Then flash this along with magisk
After flash don't clear dv-cache, not even after flashing magisk and dont change anythink in the system partition untill first boot u can also flash the magisk modules straight ahead.
This is miui id best, u get paid themes free, also volte working and it does have split screen.
Note:- don't forget to flash magisk, don't clear cache after flashing the rom and i mean anytime don't do it it will take a lot of time then.
First boot will take 15 min, dont wait for it once it gets past the boot logo and enters the bootanimation wait for 2 min then again do force reboot by long pressing the power button, do it one more time this time wait for 5 min if it opens then good or again reboot. This time it will happen.
The rom is stable and totally worth the trouble.
This process is just to reduce the first booting time.
Thanks ?

If i wanna install miui id, do i need to wipe all , as in format my handset. Or is it ok to just wipe system, cache dv? I dont wanna lose my apps data
@Trovies hi,
Just do titanium or swiftbackup search the apk in google, and u can do dirty flash but i will not recommend it.
Note :- download the premium version of the swiftbackup from the internet.
Thanks

very well explained. As per habit I was clearing both dv cache and cache and due to this rom was taking too much time to boot. But after reading your post I have made clear pretty much everything. This is the best MIUI rom I have ever used. Performance, battery life, smoothness everything is spot on. I just wish it would had double tap to wake feature and recent apps menu would had icon mode option. Audio through earphones is also low. other than that its fantastic rom.

Just do a clean flash, rom + settings zip, together like do a batch. Then no clear cache boot and do the process

yup I'm not noob and doing exactly as you are saying but still I'm struggling with this rom
1st attempt wipe dalvik, system, data cache - flashed rom - flashed settings zip - flashed magisk - tried to flash magisk modules (failed) - reboot without any wipe - rom didn't boot
2nd attempt - clean installed with only rom and settings zip - booted normally - went to bootloader again installed magisk - reboot system - went in bootloader again - flashed app systemizer module- rebooted successfully - went to magisk manager and added module youtube advanced - reboot stuck on mi logo
3rd attempt - reinstalled clean as described in 2nd attempt till the setup of app sytemizer on reboot - went to app systemizer module and ticked gps app- module asked to reboot boooooom stuck on mi logo
Everything I wrote above is my common practice with every miui rom but I don't know why It is not working with this rom. anyways thanks for your help I am moving to global stable as I can't live without these modules. n sorry for bad english

Ya i know modules can be a pain in the ass only one suggestion when ever after flashing a module if its stuck in the bootloop then just use magisk Uninstaller then again install Magisk or use magisk for recovery to remove the particular module which is causing boot loop also use root youtube valence and use universal installer it will not cause bootloop. Also use minimal module only what you need. Ok then. Also do as u discreet i am fine in this rom. And its great. ?
See my modules
I too use YouTube vanced.
Man u got to find solutions not give up and change only after a few attempts. U know how many times i got bootloop because of this rom and it's compatibility issues with the modules. After many attempts i got it. Now its the best custom miui rom ever also the dev is constant and hops to bring miui 10. Also if u have used this rom only for a few hours u can realize the difference.

yup there is no doubt this is best custom miui rom out there. But this bootloop and boot time driving me nuts. I wonder why all this problems are popping up though the rom is based on official firmware and I've never faced such problem with official roms. I will give it a try again after two days. I just hope that time it will go smooth.
