Felt good about the Xperia Arc today - Xperia Arc General

Hello guys,
As we all know here's an always ongoing fight between the SGS II and Xperia Arc or Arc S.
One of my classmates has a SGS II and since a few days he has also an internet flat on it.
We're both on the same provider (E-PLUS) via subproviders, me on My MTV Mobile and he has Medion Mobile, but anyway, they use both the same network without any speed caps so it doesn't matter.
He thinks his SGS II is way better (I don't think so and he knows it) and he wanted to do a speedtest with the Sppedtest.net Mobile app to show how much better his SGS II is?
We used the same server so it's a fair test.
And, I was surprised, my Xperia Arc was faster in circa 18 out of 20 test we made in 3 days by 0.1-1.5Mbit/s in download and just a little bit in upload speeds as we have no HSUPA at our school.
In ping test each phone was 10 out of 20 tests faster than the other, so it is a tie.
Thought the SGS II has the better antenna, but well, I was wrong
The SGS II might be faster in general but internet speeds --> browsing speed goes to our Xperia Arc
Also with custom ROM and oc to 1.4GHz oc I don't see a big/no difference between the phones...
My Xperia Arc is running arconium 5.6 with the latest .64 baseband and DooMKernel.
Just wanted to share my experience with you, I hope you like the result

You could also try the Vellamo benchmark.

I can ask him
But for now we just compared the download speeds.
On normal sites the Arc @ 1.4GHz should be faster due faster download then I guess

Also try camera test - which phone takes fastest photos, make sure flash is off and focus is on normal and shoot away, the arc wins

Yeah, that's one other point, where the Arc S is better.

ARC rullez B-)

Only today? I feel pretty good about my Arc everytime I use it . Actually though, what really impresses me is how beautiful it is everytime I look at it from the sides
Of course.. then the obligatory crack above the proximity sensor ruins it all.

i saw my friend's SGS II, and i kinda compare it. .
i think they have some good and minus point. .
arc have sexy model, nice feature than SGS II,
but if u call performance when SGS II on high performance and our arc overclocked to 1.9Ghz it still hard to catch its performance
i still proud to use Arc too man!

Amoled is better only for the deeper black.
For the rest the Arc screen has more natural and faithful colors than amoled, it has only pumped colours

The S2 is definitely going to step on the arc in Vellamo. You're just trying to make yourself feel good owning the arc by comparing trivial stuff. The dual-core processor, AMOLED screen, high performance SoC are enough to prove that the Galaxy S II is an overall superior smartphone.
Still, I wouldn't swap my arc for an S2 just because I hate Samsung's UI (TouchWiz).

Haha, I know thst the SGS II is better in overall and I don't care, I would own a SGS II then instead of my Arc
I wanted the Arc and I'm happy with it.
Just wanted to tell you guys my experience...
@ DemonicHawk:
Haha, I fell god about it every day, too.
But it was even better to see that we have the faster antenna speeds

you dont have to use tw.
just use go launcher or any other launcher.
or install a rom with jkay (customizable aosp)
or use cm9 experimental with ics aosp (as im doing atm...)
there are plenty of ways to avoid tw
but one point for the arc is the prize
amazon:
sgs2 -> ~400
arc s -> ~350
arc -> ~300.

Nope, you can't avoid TW unless you switch ROMs. TouchWiz is not just the launcher, it's integrated in the whole thing.

Each phone has its pros and cons, that's a fact.
Even the SGS II is not flawless.
Arc is a phone based on a different philosophy, it's not about the processor or the top-notch specs, it's more about design.
It has a big bright screen and does its job nicely.
It's only human to want to feel good about what you got.
It's somewhat pathetic, on the other hand, to always look around to find better aspects in things you don't have. It's recipe for unhappiness and whimpering.

I am proud to own arc because of lot of wow effect that it makes on its appearance when regular people sees it.
Ok, I like to brag sometimes, but who don't?
Unique design that arc has differs it from all that regular and boring looking phones, mostly Samsungs..
So, proud to be arc owner!!

In every comparative video I've seen Arc perfroms as good as SGS II.
There are many of these on YouTube.
As for the display, AMoled on SGS II looks like oversaturated ****.
It really sucks, you have to be blind to call it superior to amazing Arc screen.

Ecaxtly, only in Benchmarks there's a big difference or when Arc's RAM is full.

[Q] Upgrading from GS2 really worth it??

hey guys,
so i'm looking to pick up a Galaxy Note in a few hours- done quite a bit of research as i've been very excited.
i just want to hear from people with first hand experience- if you owned a Galaxy S2 prior to the Note, was the leap really worth it? If so, why?
Thanks!

Do a search for S2 in this forum. You will find numerous threads comparing the Note to the S2. I have not read one post where someone was not happy they moved to the Note.
It is worth it. I upgraded today and I am not looking back. The Note is amazing!!! Love the HD screen. I just need to get a copy of the Netflix HD apk from the Razr.

No its not.
I bought the note and its not compareable to the sgs2...
Its slower, for what reason ever (im using the lighting rom on [email protected],4ghz), if you load the same website on both for ex youtube desktop the note is much lagg a bit but much... even @ quadrant (I know its a bench but my sgs2 scores 4600 after 4months of useage the note 3400 out of the box...).
Maybe someday a custom rom will boost it up, but at the moment its ONLY BIGGER with a higher res bit greeny colorized display...
The pen is not correct

Im going back.
^^ that's what i feared... any other opinions or experiences? both positive and negative
i'd like some confirmation on CM7 coming over to the Note, as i've had some good experience with those ROMS on my old devices making them much more responsive.
$500 over my SGS2 just doesn't seem to be justified for a 1" bigger screen and less responsiveness... decisions, decisons...
i don't have GS2 so i can't say that its worth to upgrading or not but my note is great i could not be happier . i don't see any s pen issue (i set on right hand writing ) if i set left hand writing and using right hand with s pen then it will look a bit off like on the youtube video. and lastly i don't notice any greeny colorize .

Yes and as I said in future some custom made rom may boost up the note but at the moment its not faster then the sgs2 and its not sure that many custom made rom will recive for the note...

My tweaked SGSII is faster and smoother then my SGN, stock browser and desktop mainly. Still the SGSII is shelfed since I have my Note. SGSII actually looks to small to be usable.
I have a S2, I think its worth to upgrade. I love the larger screen.
I had to go back to the S2 for a few days because my Note's screen was faulty, and it is surely no torture to use the S2, it feels smooth.
But, the Note gives a dimension to mobile computing not comparable to smaller devices like the S2 or iPhone.
I don't care for the s-pen, maybe I'll find some use it besides impressing others...
If however, your main use is calling, maybe a smaller device is more suitable...

I love the Note. LOVE it.
That said it is significantly laggy compared to my SGs2.
I figured it would be with no mods initially...but its slower than I thought it'd be.
I compare them both clocked at 1400.
The difference is the lack of exynos processor I think.
You can bridge the gdap with Launcher pro (and loose the cool tW widgets)and put scrolling settings at top speed....along with Rom Manager Pro an XDA dudes app which scripts the OS to optimize memory and speed.
So yeah surprised and dissapointed in the screen responsiveness (specially after Engadgets review (has it faster than SGS2 in all benchmarks).
Whatever...developers should have it all stepped up in a month or two.
thanks for all the replies, fellas
i'm looking forward to what's in store for the Note in the near future...

The galaxy note has the exynos processor, why do people think otherwise, i havent seen a single publication post otherwise.
I really like the note so far, those it is slightly laggy as others havee said
Useful video comparing the Note with the S2.
It's in Italian, but the video should still be easy to follow... Possibly a tiny bit more laggy on the Note in parts, but I don't see that being a long term issue. The hardware is definitely good enough. Really want to see ICS run on it. I suspect it'll fly.
An appearance of lagginess doesn't mean it's slower necessarily, right?
Could just be software inefficiencies, if I'm not wrong....
once development catches up, i'm sure it'll be on par at least
in any case, i ordered one today lol
thank you everyone for your input and opinions!

Galaxy SII or Galaxy Nexus

Guys I want to buy a new android device !!
Maybe a Galaxy SII or Galaxy Nexus
So can you guys SUGGEST me which to buy!!
Also please give me some REVIEWS and their PROS & CONS

S2: better camera, better battery, slightly better processor and gpu, durability (the last two are not major)
Gnex: better screen, nfc, direct update from Google..
Also, you can try jelly bean right now if you had gnex.. and looking at the people interest I'd say you should get the nexus

I was in the same situation one month ago. I had had both of them in my hands and the Nexus was too big (although you get used to it with time).
Of course right now I would like to have a Nexus to test Jelly Bean, but I think I made the right choice for me. Bot are beasts and I love squared designed, which the Nexus isn't.
You won't be disappointed with any of these 2!

Of course. I was saying "if you cannot get a GNex", it leaves him only his other option (S2). I don't how how easy is buying a phone over the internet in India. I can get any phone in my country, but I can't tell about others.
I'm not trying to convince him or anybody. I don't care what phone he buys. Just trying to help with questions.
I been thinking of switching to gnex mainly due to updates and no touch wiz but im afraid new nex is just around corner especially with recent apple law suit.
Is sgs2 processor and gpu really that much better?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
This exynos is still very very powerful even now
In terms of CPU (or maybe the frequency)- I've read (cannot remember the source though) that TI-OMAP on GNEX was originally clocked to 1,5 ghz but it was underclocked to 1,2 ghz in order to save the battery. So I suppose OC Ti-OMAP may perform better than OC Exynos. (Mine is quite stable on 1.5 ghz but freezes immediately on 1.6 ghz) So if somebody consider overclocking in future this can be useful information.
In terms of GPU - Mali 400MP kicks PowerVR SGX540's (it was considered obsolete right after release of GNex) ass. It was only iphone's 4S PowerVR SGX543MP2 (and Apple A5 chipset )that performed slightly better in tests than MAli 400MP and Exynos chipset.
This + screen size + SD slot made me buy S2 and I don't regret at all!
If I was you I would definitely buy the nexus as it has a better quality screen (hd), it is pure Google phone (direct updates), I like the design and, of course, Jelly Bean.

[OFF TOPIC] New phone time

With the announcement of the GS4 now here. Im a bite dissapointed how its Soap bar 2.0. I really digged the look of the S2 (candybar). The dilemma is that the GS4 is all i want IN a phone. While the Sony Xperia Z and HTC one look really nice. What do you guys think of the new Galaxy S? I think its a great. Phone which lives up to its Name but i dont Like the look.
Cool story, bro.

I think you should...
I owe SGS II for about 1.5 years. WHen S3 came i Thought 'nice phone', but there was no revolution. 4 core's ok, but i doubt if there's an app that will use them. Camera almost the same as in S2. Bigger screen/ resolution ++. But performance was not so good as I expected. Design was ok for me, but i think material's quality is better in S2. Now S4 came and imho it's very interesting phone, and in June/July I will sell my S2 and buy S4 when the prices will be lower. Overall I like S4 design, it looks niceer than S3 for me, and the performance is really good too(benchmarks), but we'll see how's its real performacnce. The only problem for me may be battery's life. 2600mAh may be too little for 5 inches screen and 8 cores(yeah, i know, only A7 or A15 cores are enabled at the time). TO sum up i think S4 is a great phone, an i'll buy it for sure(after reading a few reviews and testing it a lot). Best regards.

I think only the 1080p screen is enough to make me jump to the S4. Even if it is pentile the pixel density is enough to make it go unnoticed. No more pink spot in the camera. LTE and float touch are a nice addition too.
My pocket is still safe

[Q] Galaxy S4 vs Others

Galaxy S4 vs others.
Hey I know there are a few other threads out there like this but they are not really specific enough. I'm torn, I'm going to be buying a new phone in the next month or so and I'm confused as to which phone I should get, I've looked at many comparisons and still can't decide which is the better buy:
Galaxy S4
LG Optimus G Pro
Sony Xperia Z
HTC One(Maybe a little small)
Any thoughts on the matter or feedback would be appreaciated. Thanks. :good:
Note: I do live in Australia so that may affect my choice.
You're on XDA forums, and it's not a place for people who are new to android. You should be able to decide for yourself what features will be more useful to you. If you still can't, at least tell what features draw you on each of the phones.
Sent from my Xperia Arc S using xda premium
Tbh, the best for you is to go on a retail store and compare those 4 phones then choose the best for you and the one that will satisfy your needs. It's just a matter of self preference. No need to start a new thread that may attract fanboyism, bashing and flaming wars.

S4
Advantages: Best processor in the pack. Tiny form factor.
Disadvantages: Nothing really, unless you count the plastic body.
Xperia Z
Advantages: Solid build.
Disadvantages: Slowest processor in this bunch (still fast).
HTC One
Advantages: Amazing build quality
Disadvantages: Feels uncomfortable due to excessively angular design.
G Pro
Advantages: Good build quality.
Disadvantages: No stylus.
Personally, I would recommend the S4. It's likely that it will be updated to at least 2 major android versions like what happened with the S2. It has the most battery efficient AND powerful chip around.
EDIT: Is Australia getting the S600 or Exynos Octa version?

I understand this is your opinion but
HTC One is super comfortable according to anyone that owns it, reviewers and users.
Xz is also waterproof which is a good thing and S4 pro is more than powerful.
S IV build quality could definitely be better but im ok with it.
And OP just go to a store like a user mentioned and go see what you like best.

That's why Sony made it waterproof so that you can leave your phone in a cold water jar

In the end, it's a matter of personal preferences. I like the XZ because of the premium feeling, music (I listen a lot of music during the day), and exclusivity. I have seen S3 and S4 all around the place I live, and if I pay a lot of money for a gadget, I want to have at least a little exclusivity.
About the screen, I like the one on the XZ. The thing with the viewing angles is non existent at this point.
The camera has been greatly improved.
You should check the XZ forum and read about that phone in there.
I haven't had a Nexus and I don't like it (Find it too boring), so I couldn't tell you about it.
Anyway, with any of the options you'll have a great device.

I have the Nexus 4 and the S4 .
The Screen of the S4 is better, the Battery is a lot of better , for the N4 there are tons of roms and kernel out there, this is one thing i am missing here ( i am a flash junkie, only AOSP Roms and Kernel )
All in all , both are great Phones. Cant realy say wich one is better. I keep both Phones.
xperia z cabt even compete with s2, it has the worst washed screen, terrible battery life and super stupid screen response. .. used it for 3 days and I couldn't stand it anymore
n4 isn't bad at all but you shld consider that on screen soft buttons will make your typing really hard ( pressing on home button instead of space alot)

Well. I had nexus 4 and I must say that it was the smoothest and most fluent experience. It felt like the software was actually optimized for the hardware. Ok one or two stutters mostly with third party apps like Facebook. But...i now use a i9505 with 4.3 GE build JRV66V which is incredible. I now have a better nexus experience, a much better camera (compared with the nexus 4 ) and great battery life. Can't say anything about xperia z/zl other than to assume that the same SOC/GPU/RAM with the nexus 4 but with a bigger screen and also a higher resolution, cannot bring a better os experience than a nexus one. The differences are in looks, Oem software and personal affinities.
Hope it helped. Cheers.

IMO just stay away from XZ/ZL crappy display - bad cam - tiny speaker
Nexus very good device with fast updates but it had bad cam with no SD + glass back ( chance of breaking the glass x2 ) , no 1080p display
GS4 : I9500 more powerful CPU than I9505 , games work better than I9505 , better DAC , better Battery , better cam sensor
I9505: better AOSP support - more powerful GPU than I9500
BTW Htc One is good option too
my 0.2 $
I am using s4 9500 htc one and iphone5, as you can see i am a gadget maniac.
Didnot use nexus 4 so i cannot post anything about it.
I just sold my XZ 2 days ago. For me;
if you want to play games and use big screen go for s4
if you want something you can daily use go for Htc.
Htc one is very stable and no lags.
s4 has so many lags (for me) and not much rom support like 9505.
if you want to shoot good pics go for s4, htc camera is totally crap (big failure).
Htc one is handy you can use easily with one hand.
Both screens are excellent both 1080p.
Hope helps
cheers;

I am waiting for Note 3 'cause i was keen admirer of note2. If you can wait just about a month then go for note 3
You meant i9500 has poor roms choice, the i9505 has as much as the One,I am using sometimes the launcher + weather widget from XZ one my One thanks to codex and it rules!
The 13mp of the S4 is awesome though and make me want to swap from my One to S4
if youre going to use the S4 then get the 9505

how is the battery life on the xperia z since the latest update
I got the 9505 my wife the Nexus 4.
Being honest I wouldnt buy the S4 again.
One big plus is the cam (only on stock rom!). But it is so damn lagging. Cant believe this by a so called flagship. I really love the "nexus experience" of the N4. The N4 has also a great housing, in my opinion better than the S4. The screen of the S4 inside buildings is great, outside the amoled is not bright enough.
Maybe you should check the Moto X if available in your country.

a i9505 running a Google edition rom flies like a hawk, if any of the S4 variants lag is because of the crapware that comes with the touchwiz Ui
touchwiz is quite a resource hog

Correct. Unfortunately the Cam isnt that good with GE.
For 1 S4 you get 2 N4. This is why for me the N4 is the better option
The n4 performs really good but speaker sucks on it.i have gs4 but it does lag on touchwiz rom.u can juat flash aosp rom and your good. Now the htc one performs really well I really recommend that phobe

Used both The HTC One and the Galaxy S4 S600 version... if you want something with a better camera and slightly better battery life go with the S4... Everything else go with the HTC One. The HTC One, despite running 4.1.2 is as smooth and quick as my SGS4 on a 4.3 Nexus ROM. For development, the HTC One has more kernels and ROMs too.

XZ' s battery life is good but with the update i felt little bit of more juice in stamina mode. But of course when screen is on juice runs out more quickly.
S4 > Htc One > XZ . For my statistics these are the battery times.
I tried the N4 then the S4.
The S4 is better for me ! More expensive but more better !
Sorry for my english
lol the xperia phones are a disgrace.. why would sony put such a bad screen on their flagship device?
i have a galaxy s4 myself running on the latest touchwiz rom, it rarely lags , the screen is amazing except for the "ghosting/smearing issue" everything else is great
im gonna be switching to the GE 4.3 rom when its available (probably tomorrow) :good:
