Sorry to hear about your HD2, have PMed you

file uploaded
if anybody need file can be download from
world-call-trade.com/keyboard
1 download to your home folder of where you want.
2 extrect with command tar -zxf TouchKeyBoard.tar.gz
it will create a folder name TouchKeyBoard, in the folder TouchKeyBoard should be 2 files TouchKeyBoard binary and TouchKeyBoard.png.
3 run from same folder ./TouchKeyBoard
it is written in c and gtk you should not have any problem running on gnome desktop if you have any trouble please let me know i will try to resolv.
there in no F key and some symbols are also missing i can make it on if we need.
my goal is creating a good keyboard as android keybord and after then a functional call and sms system over ubuntu desktop.
ps i am new here so cannot post externel links add http &www befor link

I am using ubuntu 10.10 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025499 running from sd CM9 android
keys are as follows
qwertyuiop returns 789-=[];' and one other char like ' but I can't it.
asdfghjkl returns abcdefghi
zxcvbnm returns opqrstu
1234567890 returns nothing except 8,9 and 0 returns 0,1 and 2 respectively
Shf button just adds a lowercase m before the above letters.
This could be due to VNC or specific ubuntu build.
will try using Ubuntu 0.3a and mouse.
The key windows are a bit small and should me made bigger within the keyboard window, because the main problem with any onscreen keyboard is the sensitivity of the touchscreen.
A maximise/minimise toggle button would be handy because the actual buttons are tiny.
Also a text window at the top of the keyboard showing the last line of text would be useful (like old typewriter software), then you could maximise the keyboard window to fill the screen without having to check your spelling in the document.
Best of luck with your projects

thanks for testing,
i will try to make change as you suggest and up load as soon as finish.
i used us_en char set may you are using dirfrent i will check also that.
please do a faver if you can some pics from v0.3.
thanks againg.

Have attached screenshot.
All buttons seem to work as they should using 0.3, so must have been different default keyboard in 10.10.
Note the keyboard was "always on top" and the tray buttons were grey

hi,
sorry for late responce i was rewriting everything from scratch.
now it should work on any desktop running xserver and gtk.
i have ported linux to my poor samsung 551 for testing in vnc.
samsung have very low screen resolution 400x240 but keyboard work as expected.
changes:
1. fonts are now more bigger and bold.
2. added configuration file buttons and size are configurable.
3. now there are 2 versions 1 for arm and another for x86.
please let me where i can add min/max button.
out of topic:
is there any port for samsung 551 or samsung 5510?
if no i have ported i will open a new thread if someone need.

Thank you for your work
Keyboard is a big threat in Linux :/

hi,
please test it if you can.
let me know if you need any help.

Hi ashgi, looking good so far.
It still needs a maximise/minimise button. I tried full-screen mode and couldn't get out. There seems to be no Function buttons either, so that I could do ALT F3.
Menu is good idea though

hi Robbie P,
thanks for testing again.
as i asked please give me advice where i can put a min/max button.
last row ramain same on all three pages so we should put a button on last row but there is no space for new button please sombody let me know witch button from last row should be put on another page (a button that less in use) i will try to add another page for missing keys.
but we should finlize first page.

hi,
uploaded 2 new files.
added min/max button.
added F keys please check in Num fkeys.
added missing symbols.
now we have more space on fkey page please let me know if you want add some more keys.
please test new version.

Looks good, m/M button in good position.
The "<" button returns a ">"
There seems to be a small delay between keypress and the colour changing on the button.
Have you thought further on having a toggled text box on the top of the keyboard window showing the last line of typed text. I think this would be a good idea, you could then maximise the keyboard without having to see what you have just typed, and no need to re-arrange windows for best view on such a small screen.

hi,
i am on debian on debian "<" ">" working as expected.
now tested on ubuntu use difrent keysum uploded new file for ubuntu please check if it work.
i will try to add oneline text editor but with toggle key because everybody may not use this feture.

hi,
uploaded new version 0.12
added toggle text box box.
you can access OBD (On Board Display) from Num fkey OBD.
removed ubuntu version added option "dist" in configuration file.
OBD have MAX. 50 words after 50 it will clear display and start from beginning
it have no effect on actual program where you are writing.
Enter key also clear display.
WARNING: OBD display as you type in clear text even PASSWORDS so use on you own risk.
i am not RESPONSIBLE if your girlfriend read you PASSWORDS
Please test and let me know how it works.
Download TouchKeyBoard from http://www.world-call-trade.com/keyboard/

Will it support russian localization?

hi a4necromant,
i am currently working on localization if you can provide translation i will send you header file.
option for switching lang is added to configuration file.

I like the obd
I was thinking text would start on the Right hand side and as letters are typed the words would scroll to the left until they disappeared or reached 50 letters or a return key was pressed. But that might be tricky to code. And others may not like or use it. Possibly changeable font size in obd?Or proportional to window size?
<> is fine now.
Well done again

New! Change SIP and toggle SIP from command line!

see this thread
This app will allow you to toggle the sip by loading it from the commandline - ie SipSwitch.exe.
However, specifiying a command line will cause the PPC to switch to that SIP AND toggle the SIP, so if no keyboard is shown:
"SipSwitch.exe Keyboard" will switch to Keyboard and display it. Use the same name as the SIP in the SIP menu.s
Best to try it and see!
My girlfriend's gonna kill me - 4.18am and work tomorrow
Links to the app.
Please leave constructive feedback.

Hi vijay555,
good job! Works great
some notes from testing:
- I couldn't switch to SIPs with " " (space) as first character, so I had to rename them (HKEY_Classes_Root/CLSID/... look for IsSIPInputMethod - thanks for advice, BGK )
- Blimkeys SIP suddenly stopped working and "basic keyboard" popped out instead.. SR solved it
- nice tool for testing (and creating shortcuts afterwards) is nOpen - http://www.nakka.com/soft/ptools/index_eng.html (and then with mortbuttons you can switch between keyboards using one hw button)
ideas for next version (in case you survived work&girlfriend ) :
- possibility to specify (.ini file) several input methods and then command line options like --next, --previous or --switch
- possibility to switch method without popping SIP pannel out
krysha - thanks for your feedback.
I wasn't sure about the SIP popping on or off. I couldn't think of much use for changing the SIP but NOT popping it up - you would then need 2 shortcuts, one to change it, one to bring it up, which for one handed use seemed wasteful. However, it's certainly easy to make it so it doesn't bring up the SIP.
I suppose at some point I'll learn how to split command lines. I also need to learn how to trim and do left$, right$ and mid$ and split() in C++. Any ideas?!
The idea about the .ini is intersting. I'll think about how to implement it, but it might take some time! If I forget, drop me a line at some point.
Man, coding so late was hard work. I can barely think straight now!
V
PS I use gsfidner for shortcuts, but thanks for the tip.
Any news on this?
Hi vijay555,
I saw you're coding a lot (VJSMS, VJDialer, ToggleStart and many other nice things - thanks for all your hard work!).
But: Are there any news on this little thingy, too?
Would be cool, if it could be used to switch between two (or more) input methods by calling the same command (by using an .ini-file), because then I could switch between those SIPs by pressing one single button.
Greetings and TIA,
BGK
BGK - I will work on it, I haven't forgotten, but I am still learning my C++ and so have to figure out how to read an ini file and parse it... I'm trying to finish off a more generic version of ToggleToday, and then I'll try and look at this again... Don't know if many/any people use this, but it would be nice to toggle through the SIPs.

...or you can provide several input methods on command line and switch between them - that should be simplier
for example "SipSwitch.exe Keyboard FullScreen" would switch between those 2 methods each time you run it..
krysha - that's one way I'm thinking of doing it, but you guys have to think, do you want the selected SIP to be displayed (ie keyboard pops up) or toggled (if on, switch off etc) when you change sip by command line. Sometimes it's useful to toggle the SIP, but the command line will want to switch to the next sip in the command line string.
I'm actually thinking of another version, based on this idea of mine: what it will do is you assign a hardware key to the program, and holding down that hardware key will show you the name of the current sip (eg "keyboard"). Letting go will show that SIP.
However, if you don't let go, but hold down the hardware key, it will flash through each SIP on the system, so it will show a little window in the corner: "Keyboard", "Calligrapher" etc, each name being shown for say 3 seconds and then changing to the next SIP name. That way, you can hold down the hardware key until the SIP you want is shown and then let go, and that SIP will be selected and activated.
What do you think?
BTW - can anyone tell me how to split strings in C++.
Eg for the command line seperated by commas, in vb I would do something like
Code:
Commandline="Calligrapher,Keyboard,BlimKeys"
CommandLineArray=Split(Commandline,",")
How do I do that in C++? I haven't read that far in my programming lessons yet I presume I have to write my own routine or use another library right?

I guess - following the software output you had the last weeks/months - there's no more neet to explain that, right?
You did nice work on all of the software you gave to this community, so I'm asking you just very polite, if you did a little further development on sipswitch, too?
It would be really cool beeing able to switch between 2 or 3 predefined input methods (from .ini or command line).
If you need help in any way, maybe I could help you (nor very advanced in C++, but... call me Mr. Google... ).

BGK: I will be working on this, but just not right now. I'm working on something quite big right now, but as soon as I can, I wil get around to this, I haven't forgotten, and I'm often thinking of how best to implement it. Unfortunately right now the "bigger" projects have to take priority
It will hopefully have a bit more of a configuration interface to support its use. Thanks for being patient!

Could you do me a favour and tell me how you will change the sip intself (changing registry keys, calling which functions,...)?
Would be interested in this...
Greetings,
BGK
SipSwitch currently starts and compiles a list of the installed SIPs.
If it find the one that matches the command line, it enables and toggles that SIP.
The future version will use a command line of defined SIPs or probably a config file.
Steps:
Compile the array of defined sips from the config file/command line.
Get the array of installed sips.
Get the current sip.
Match that sip to the config array.
If there's a match, get the next SIP specified in the config array.
If next SIP matches installed SIP, switch to next SIP.
No registry involved in SIPs I think!
The work involved is in parsing the config file, preparing the array of sips and looping through the arrays. Nothing too complicated, just needs some attention. I literally don't have a spare minute right now though. I'm on a deadline to finish some code tonight Don't like coding under pressure, just for fun!

Good Application
Dear vijay555
i have tried this app and working fine, but i have arabic keyboard name and i can not toggle to it using your app, is there anyway to know the english sip name of my arabic keyboard.
gwassef: have a look at the second post from the top, discussing the registry. I've not really thought about it before, but have a look through the registry, and maybe even change the name of the SIP.
Have to run, apologies!
V
Dear vijay555
thanks for reply, i checked the second post from where i got a link to the wiki registry settings and got the CLSID of my SIP and change it to engish, then i used your sipswitch.exe program to change it each time i soft reset my device.
thanks for you all
Hey Vj, I ran a test on your app.
I made a Shortcut using Total Commander with the following line
"\Program Files\SipSwitch\sipswitch.exe" Keyboard
It gives me a window saying "SIP not found". Any clue?
I think it may be case sensitive - did you copy it exactly? Check the CLSID in your registry to make sure it's exactly as written.
Frankly, it's a very basic app. It needs a complete re-write!
V
Yes, they are exactly the same. Attached (I've cut the bottom half from other screen shot to avoid uploading two pics). Note, the " symbol is on the right way, Total Commander somehow omit the starting " symbol, but the short cut is definately functioning. I'm just wondering if there are any other method of putting the " marks. But I did use the same method for OMAPCLOCK, it works.
BTW, for your info, my "Keyboard" is in
\HKCR\CLSID\{42429667-...}\Default
it will be great if u develop an app which can allow multiple SIP's on the system bar(Ref. mCalc adds an icon next to SIP)

[NO MORE IN DEV 07/31/200] ContactManager 0.11 - Another try for "finger friendly"...

[NO MORE IN DEV 07/31/200] ContactManager 0.11 - Another try for "finger friendly"...
ContactManager is no more developped, please use the new native version. You can get more information here
ContactManager 0.11
What it does:
- "classic" finger scrolling
- tapping the contact make appear a screen with contact info (photo, name, phone, sms and mail). Selecting one option launch the default compose dialog or make the call. You can also change the contact picture from the detail directly.
- display contact photo if present (in the list and the contact detail).
What's different:
- if you press you finger on the left or right border of the screen it will allow you to select the letter you're searching for, release the finger, it will show you the contact starting with this letter. For me that's the way to go in touch interface: release should trigger the event, push should only provide visual feedback, I'd like a visual kb like this.
- the contact detail is not the standard one, you can show only the information you want (and it's animated .
- the list is animated (scrolling) and the transition between list and detail also.
Settings file:
There is an .ini file that you can create in the directory where the program reside. It contains color, font and image settings. See the setting.ini provided in the zip file.
To install, copy the unzipped file to your ppc and run it. Should be enough. Tested on WM6 only, apparently it also run on WM5. Sorry for 2003 owner, as I don't have such device, I'm unable to test.
Please inform me, before publishing this app on any other website... (a mail to qpouplard // gmail.com will be enough). I'm not against it at all, but I'd like to know it.
What's new? (0.11)
- Localization support
- Bug fixes
- Updated default theme
- Setting to adjust image position
- Multiline information are supported
- Memory optimization
How to use localization??
Copy "lang.fr.ini", adapt the file to your need, change "fr" to your PDA country ISO name. (fr for France, sp for Spain, de for Germany, etc...).
I'll provide localization soon.
What's new? (0.10)
- Gesture: you can slide you finger from right to left or right to left, it will go act like the lower left softkey.
- Bug fixes: app crashing while deleting contact
- New virtual contact: at the end of the list you have a new contact, tap on it to create a new
- New default theme inspired from the Touch
- New settings to adjust contact detail information
To download version 0.11 please go to the brand new ContactManager website: http://www.pocketcm.com.
Please always link to my website, do not provide binary yourself. I'm clearly trying to bring some traffic to my website... so I can continue to develop for free.
You like this application? I've put some time developping this application, it also take me lot of time to take all your valuable comments into account. I'm doing mostly for technical challenge and fun, but ... any donation is appreciated (even the small one) (and will motivate me to continue the development as a freeware), please use this link
Feature to come:
- Native version (who read this? )
- Sync with MyOE contact (http://myoedev.blogspot.com)
- (maybe) compose sms from the application, mainly to allow me to test with SIP method using C# and not C++.
- Setup/packaging integration on the Touch (cube, dialer, etc...).
Download ContactManager 0.11
Thanks- this is a very nice version- I like it.
One suggestion- can the A-Z letter can be another colour- ie colour RED ( or user defined) ... Well done !!!
very nice job and I had the same idea for show contacts for my new iMedia continue to work with it, it's going very nice...
btw some things to adjust :
- scroll isn't very good yet
- left index is too much on the left (
- characters are very ugly on my device
pl55, I'll think about adding some options On the other side, if one of you feel like an artist, feel free to propose something!
Guybrush, can you elaborate what's wrong about scrolling (I mean I agree with you, but on the other side, I have a smartphone for 5 days now... I don't have lot of experience about what's "good" or "bad").
You want left index to be longer? for now it's 26 pixels, maybe 30 will do the job?
Related to the ugliness or character, can you post a screenshot? I only have an HTC touch to test (and the emulator).
that's a screen as appear on my device... about left index look screenshot of my SSContact, i think it's good like that... Scrolling is slow... and not fluid... don't give me good feelings.
I've have a little problem, I can call using the Call button, but the send Sms button doing nothing ....
hi,tene
Very nice work,it looks good by adding contact photo and the idea of side contact to call or to send SMS.
The alpha.index is working but as the application is to be used by finger so it is very difficult to use this index by finger.
Second thing is the scrolling is heavy not fluid, the best i think to scroll is icontact of Larna ,it scrolls very nice.
So keep it up and we all wait for another release with fixed bugs.
thanks
pl55, do you have configured anything specific for SMS? WM5 or 6? I'm using "standard" CF function to start the compose SMS stuff.
myRIGHT: regarding performance, what PPC are you using? How many contact do you have? (I have like 100 on mine). How is the sliding to contact detail going? (it's important, if sliding is bad, I'll have to think about a totally different method).
For the alpha index, my idea was exactly to make it usable by finger: its very hard to point to the right letter, but it's rather easy to move your finger to the right position, so the idea is: tap anywhere on left (or right) part of the screen, and move your finger until you're on the right letter, then remove the finger, that's it. That's also why you get a visual feedback (ugly for now, will look better soon).
Wow this looks promising! Good work! Here are my thoughts:
Like MyRIGHT said, I feel the scrolling in larna's icontact is perfect, so if you could get that kind of feel it would be great!
For now though the biggest thing bugging me is the way it sorts the names, File As always seems the prefered way (again like in larna's icontact). If you could fix this I would definitaly use this instead of icontacts!
Good job on the abc index too, maybe you can make the "area" on the right hand side of the screen a little wider (thumb width )
Maybe you could also make the letter that shows up in the middle of the screen more obvious (coloured background or so).
I like how you can you use the virtual keyboard to jump to the first letter!
I LOVE the way the screen slides to the left when you click on a name. It's a lot faster than waiting for the "default" screen to show up too! Maybe the screen that comes in can look a little better like you said though.
The bottom buttons (search and new) don't seem to do anything, but maybe you havent gotten around to that yet. Maybe you could have the app fullscreen and have 4 buttons at the bottom which launch speed dial, call history, the keypad and new contact or so ?
It's also interesting how the d-pad always scrolls all the way to the top of the list no matter what button you press
Hope this might help you and I hope I don't come across as someone who can only complain, this is a really nice app!

My apologies, the SMS send button work fine, it's just take a while to load up. . With my Hermes and WM6 - I like the speed of scrolling it's just feel right - ( just like larna's icontact) .
I've to agreed with others, the A_Z index is so tiny, may be if it can be triggered wih another screen A_Z ( more like the contact detail but appear from the left side this will make finger buttom easier).
It's very very nice, but it can't be displayedcorrect om a htc universal (vga screen). If you could make a vga layout it would be perfect...
I think if the scrolling spped and a few graphics were added it would be great! i am a graphics artest, tell me the size and format of the images for things like the letters on the side and i can cook somthing up for u
Hi atomicshockwave,
For now I don't use image, only drawing text, however I'd like to have:
- A correct layout for contact detail (I can extract something from a mockup, for instance, you draw a beautiful sample for a given contact, and I'll try to integrate it).
- An image for the preview letter from the A_Z, something like a bubble pointing to the letter.
Regarding the size, the A_Z is 10*320, each contact is 220 * 32. For the contact detail, it just has to fill the screen.
Apparently it maybe great to think about VGA devices, I don't have one, but I suppose I can use the emulator (however, I fear performance would suffer).
Working on a new version... will update soon.
Hi Tene,
Great and useful App ! it run smoothly and scrolling speed is acceptable on my Hermes with WM6. Only 3 things i noticed that need enhancement:
1) contactmanager can't be minimized with the 'ok' button on Hermes, closing it tapping the 'X' works.
2) If the contact saved phone number in 'work tel', it wouldn't be displayed with your contactmanager (list and detail)
3) the 'new' and 'search' softkey is not responding ?
btw, scrolling at the border for first letter is really useful UI
> 1) contactmanager can't be minimized with the 'ok' button on Hermes, closing it tapping the 'X' works.
Is it something special to your device? (my problem, as a newbe with smartphone, I've no idea what you're talking about)
Regarding work tel, I added work tel to the list of phone number he tries to find, but I really should handle various phone number.
For the new and search, I just put them "for testing", they do nothing... but my question is: what button would be actually usefull?
tene said:

It has a 'OK' button (most PPC phone has this button) to minimise the app (running in memory but hidden from the screen) instead of closing, it would be good if contactmanager can be minimised.
maybe a Exit softkey button would be useful instead of 'search'
Now see I like the scrolling MUCH better in this than iContact. It might be able to slow down a bit slower but the speed that it maxes out at is good. In iContact, sometimes when I scroll it goes too fast or straight to the bottom of the contact list. That is pretty fast given that I have 100 contacts.
My only issue is that there is only one number shown (which you pointed out), and that the search and new buttons are not functional. This is a big pain with the iContact app... no ability to add a new one. I am on the CUSTEL Ultimate WM6 ROM. This is a great foundation for a contacts app!

Try that: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...2F-07B5-4A8C-8A44-B4E1B196D5C0&displaylang=en
But I've no idea if my app works on a Treo.
There is also some funkiness going on with the scroll wheel on the 8525. If you move it the contact goes straight to A and then the screen is unresponsive for a bit to finger scrolling.

converter program (finger friendly) need suggestions

Hi wanted to create my first program..
right now Im trying to make a unit converter that is finger friendly..
so far I've tested it and here is what I have so far..
any suggestions? regarding the buttons positions, the interface, etc?
thanks
Hi Providense,
Looks good so far.
Do you have a development schedule as to what it will convert?
Keep it up.
John
Provedence,
It seems that some people like to have a configuration facility.
So perhaps some suggestions:-
Favorites so that the list can be tailored to favorites for that person to save a more compact list of 'things to convert'
I would be happy to have any theme for now but cooks may prefer to add there own theme.
I have used this type of function with calculator type programs but they can become unweildy so one that is specific would be usefull.
Thanks
John
thanks Johny1fin
as of now these are the things i've done
Temperature:
degree Celsius
degree Fahreheit
degree Rankine
degree Reaumur
kelvin
Acceleration: (still doing it right now)
centigal
centimeter/square second
decigal
decimeter/square second
dekameter/square second
foot/square second
g-unit(G)
gal
galileo
gn
grav
hectometer/square second
inch/square second
kilometer/hour second
kilomter/square second
meter/square second
mile/hour minute
mile/hour second
mile/square second
milligal
millimeter/square second
still a long way to go. But the Acceleration should be done by today.
Then I'll add Area, Date/Time and etc
I like the idea of favorites. I'll see if i can implement that. Im still a beginner at programming. Using VB.net 2003 right now
oh by the way. Here's the main menu, where I will put all the buttons

any suggestions? regarding the buttons positions, the interface, etc?

Providence,
It may be a limitation of the APIs but could the vertical scroll buttons be next to each other horizontally rather than vertically as this may produce larger buttons?
John
Look nice.. however, on the finger friendly issue, you may want to avoid the scroll list (on your first screenshot) and have another screen for the choice of (say) different temperature units. Something like, making a screen (of your second shot) for temperature units. If you get what i'm trying to say
thanks for the feedbacks i've changed how the scrolling works. Now im using a custom button for that.
Looking good providence
I am not sure if you like this idea, but I think it will be more useful if you can add:
- Currency converter
- Currency quick view (to view several currencies at once)
There is an example of a very nice and complete project with source code here:
http://www.codeproject.com/netcf/PocketCurrency.asp
Add option to have automatic currency update as well
[ x ] Update when connected to ActiveSync
[ x ] Automatic update every X hours
hi, well the main idea was to create a finger based Unit conversion program. To add Currency Converter would be a challenge for myself.
Since first of all, Currency changes daily, so there must be a way to update it. Secondly, im still learning how to program by self teaching myself on my free time.
By the way, Here's the latest screenshot of the program.
I fixed the buttons so its easier to use.
unfortunately, this will only work on PDAphones and not on smartphones. Since you'll need to use the touch screen as input method.
Here is an idea, as mentioned by one of the post above, instead of stacking your scroll button up and down, it may save you that more space if you were to stack them left and right.
From what it seems, the < and > , are buttons, which you use it to 'affect' your lists. If you were to (example) sandwish your list in between these two buttons, you would save like another 2 button height. Example.
Currently, you have the layout
Code:
. item1 <
. item2
. item3 >
. item4
if you can just do this (which is possible in VC, not sure about VB), instead
Code:
< .item1 >
.item2
So, instead of 4 item height, you are now only left with 2 items height.
ahh i see..
I tried doing it
< item 1 >
item 2
but i find it harder to navigate, since when you go back you have to drag your finger across the other side of the screen. And while doing that, you are blocking the item list with your finger.
I dont need to save space, i think i got everything in there..
by the way, here's the test i took
then again, if i put them on the sides, it makes easier for those who are left handed as well
The spaces you save, may able you to bloat up the keypad below.. from what it seems, now they are on the 'flat' side of it.
If you think the "left-list-right" is not very finger friendly, you can try the "list-left-right"? That is
.item1 < >
.item2
Hi thanks for the suggestions..
right now here is what i have, and will probably be the final change in the button positioning..
i got big fingers and I can use them without stylus.
Should have a pre-alpha version ready soon. As of now I've done temperatures and acceleration.
Will add more soon

smart touch key repeat rate

Hey
I'm trying to get the HP iPaq 614c in a usable state....what I'm finding is that the Smart-Touch scroll wheel is great, nice and quick and you can be productive.
But, because it is only one way (up <-> down), and because it usually functions as the equivalent of a "tab" key press (if on a PC) you can't use it for moving around in a text block.
You have to use the up down left right method by hovering over 5, then moving your thumb in the appropriate direction...however, the repeat rate on this is slow slow slow......
Its enough to not make me keep the 614c because it means editing SMSs or emails or even just random text fields like URLs is painful, particularly when you make a mistake.
Does anyone know any registry fields to change this?
I've tried the accessible settings in Settings > Buttons > Up/Down Control but they have no effect.
Thanks!
Si
yes i would be interested in this too.
I've searched the registry but couldn't fnd anything applicable. I found one key which was reported in another forum, but it had no effect.
WAY NOT TAP (WITH FINGER) ON THE AREA AND THEN MOVE L/R
I THINK YOU NEED TO HAVE "SLOW" MOVMENT FOR SOME APPS/FILES
well that is why I do, like you say. I guess slow movement may be useful for some things.
When you're in the middle of a text message or email though, it can take days to scroll through a message.
Its also very hard to pinpoint the cursor to the right area with out using the stylus (i.e. with your finger nail).....
...part of the beauty of the 614c for me is the phone keypad which allows T9 input (T9 input being super fast compared to any qwerty input with two fingers), but when you can't edit the message very easily it becomes annoying.
Im sorry to say that I don’t know/suffer from your prob
not that I do want problems, but the thing is that all text is within the bounds of the screen (for me on long doc/mail....) so the only need for fast thing is up down
maybe you have a different setting that lets you see "out of the screen" ~ the need for fast L/R scrolling
as for ie tx9 I don’t use this method so ….. I disabled the default settings of having it on first thing
for ie address I use pie-plus app ,it has within it's settings option for quick words/address and finger scrolling or open more then one tab etc.
but you asked so I will give you the solution
please backup your device
open a reg edit like this free one
http://www.phm.lu/products/PocketPC/RegEdit/
then go to HKLM/software/tegic/et9/ime
tap on D-WORD "carrierDefaultTextMode"
set value from "0" to "1"
enjoy
for l/r scrolling, what i'm talking about is when you're editing a text message or an email, they can get quite long. so say you're editing a message, then you realise you need to add a word at the start or edit a word in the middle, it takes ages to scroll to the middle or the beginning using the l/r scrolling on the smart touch wheel....and when i say ages, i mean ages, at least compared to how quickly it works on the smartphones with a hard nav joystick/wheel.
it has nothing to do with whether you can see the text on the screen. its to do with moving the caret/cursor/pointer around within the text.
thanks for that registry entry...i did try it, but it made no difference. IE still uses abc method.
i may look at that pie-plus ting though, looks like it may help.

works for me
did you save the reg by "exit " turn off the device for 10 sec then SR ?
any way i will also try to look into the scroll....
it changes the default method for applications like Internet Explorer for you? not just SMS composing?
I'll try it again...
hey yeah
that did work, thanks!! (making the default mode actually work as default in all circumstances)
i just typed it wrong.
told you so i will also look into the wheel thing im now into helping with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=403736

more option etc. mainly 4 ipaq 600
hmmmm.....do you know how to make that keyboard fix work even when you install a 3rd party keyboard.
I was trying to install a finger friendly keyboard for the times when you have to type in passwords or other such delicates, but if i do that after having made that modification it loses it as the default.

[rel] Program Finder Today plugin

Hey!
I've built a small today plugin that someone may find useful as well...
Well, since its my first Today plugin, its not perfect... However...
Anyway, it requires a hardware keyboard to be useful.
The attached ZIP archive contains both the CAB and user's manual.
t9 works, gstupidinput works. have not tested button assigned sips..
nice!
Dude, this rocks! I've been wanting someone to develop something like Launchy (http://www.launchy.net/) for Windows Mobile, this is a really nice first step.
I'm guessing it would be much more difficult to have the application also search and suggest documents, files, bookmarked web pages, and settings screens based on the text entry right?
What about making this a stand alone app that could be triggered without navigating to the today screen? For example, if I could launch this app by mapping it to a hardware button and then begin typing to launch any app, setting, document, web page, etc on my device it would be pretty awesome.
I like the looks of this. Can't wait to try it out.
Yay, its good that someone likes it
Yes, I've been thinking about converting it to a stand-alone app.
Yes, I've been thinking about adding support for documents, bookmarks, etc.
Maybe in next release (actually I will have to rebuild it almost completely )...
Thank you for feedback, anyway
This app sounds totally awesome, will the next rev have touchscreen support??? Very interested.
fantastic app!
thank you!
It HAS a touchscreen supported, but since:
1) using SIP (software input panel) is not too effective
- and -
2) there is no SIP button on the Today screen
hardware keyboard is required.
"2) there is no SIP button on the Today screen
hardware keyboard is required."
look at this:
http://dalelane.co.uk/blog/?p=287&cpage=1
"# SIP support
This was asked for a lot. The Today screen doesn’t include the button to show/hide the on-screen stylus/finger keyboard. So if your mobile doesn’t have a keyboard, TwitToday wasn’t much use.
I’ve added a setting now that lets you programmatically show the SIP keyboard when you tap on the text box. "

Yeah, Launchy is awesome. This app could be quite similar to what the Pre does when you start typing ...
I can't wait for SIP support.
That's really great I was wondering why no one developed Launchy for PPC. Afterall, it's one of the best launchers out there
Unfortunately I have Manilla on my today.
_TB_TB_, you should definately develop it into a stand alone app
Thanks man! Great plugin for my Universal
Well, this is absolutely awesome! It somehow reminds me a bit of the search function in the vista start menu (one of the things I actually like about vista). It just speeds up starting apps
I've put it through some test yesterday and today and have found a few bugs:
1. The biggest problem I found is that it will crash if the screen is rotated or the resolution is changed. This is a potential showstopper for a lot of phones (all those phones where the hardware keyboard slides out to the side and the screen is rotated for input - like on my wing). What happens is that the plugin will not be painted any more after the screen is rotated and clicking on it just leads to an error sound. What is scary is that if you soft reset the phone after the plugin crashes, sometimes it won't restart correctly (that is the whole screen will look completely garbled) and will need a second reset.
2. It slightly changed the order of the today plugins on my today screen and for some reason I can't bring them back to the right order anymore now. When I try to change that now, the today screen will shortly hide some items, then an error sound is played and the order is reset to the wrong one.
3. The font size of the plugin is different to the standard font size of the other today plugins (in my case, the font size is 11px and I believe that's the standard size). I believe there should be a registry setting somewhere where you can read out the right size.
4. It will only find what's in the "Programs" folder and subfolders but it won't find all the shortcuts that are right in the start menu or in folders in the start menu. For example, I have put the Office Mobile folder right into the start menu and therefore can't launch the Office apps through this plugin.
