heres the thing
i have prime 2.1.1
idont have system software update in my settings
when ICS comes out tommorow
how can i update?

Wait for a custom rom? custom roms are nearly always better anyway.

hi
you have to wait for the new prime version which includes the ICS-Update!
Other way you have to switch back to stock and you will lose root!
give the devs a litte time so they can make a nice ICS rom

This^ or for the time being you can just switch to an ICS ROM until your ROM of choice gets updated.
Most likely first ICS build will just be a Rooted/Deodexed version of the ICS update which should be up within the hour of the update being released if all goes as planed.
And of course the update may not even be coming out today and the person who runs the ASUS Singapore Facebook account could be getting fired. , but let's try and be positive!

This true I have seen that happen many times before they are so fast to release an rooted update to the forums before it gets pushed to your device.

I don't think that this is going to happen as usually there is some sort of a "leak" for this to happen and with the update being pushed (supposedly) today then I think we will have to wait for someone to get it and post the update to the forums.

so your saying that a new custom rom will be out tommorow?
another question any thoughts if iwill have to wipe
i cant really manage to do it
i got lots of important stuff on my TF and the sd cards its almost 60GB

Could it be that the Singapore update won't drop until the 12th, 13th who other areas get it tomorrow?

Just curious, how long do previous iphone models get the latest iOS update when a new iphone comes out? Is it same day or shortly after?
I'm glad to see Google is closing the time between a Nexus device launch and past device getting the latest Android update.

Older IOS devices get it on the same day, or a couple of days before the new Iphone is released.
For Example IOS5 came out on Oct 12 this year and the Iphone 4S wasn't released until Oct 14..
its easy when they only have one or two other architectures to worry about. with the ns theres at least 3 i think
That's a good idea for an internal test. Can't wait!

well i tried my little ace up my sleeve. downgraded back to 2.3.4 stock prerooted, to see if i would get and no go lol. it just prompted me for gingerbread 2.3.7 updating. worth a shot i might try this everyday.
Not that it will likely matter for you but even your phone was first in line for the ota up to ics, you would almost certainly get the ota update up to 2.3.7 if you're sprint and 2.3.6 for gsm. prior to ota notification for 4.0
So if you're going to do revert to stock and hope you're first to get the ota thing, make sure it is actually the latest stock.
This just makes me all the more eager to get the ota on my phone.

And there is no employees edition of the phone. The limited edition phone ( battery cover) is not a "employees edition"
but i knw this one is the early model which was givn to employees
That's true. You will always get the next in line OTA. I remember that's how it was on my Nexus One.

[Q] What a joke Anybody eles still not got the ICS update in UK

Anybody eles still not got the ICS update in UK getting to be a bit of a joke this now
why is it a joke, the update will come. I'm just wondering if people who buy android do not release that the updates roll out in batches and can take time before they get it.
Yea, they can't feasiabally roll out the update to everyone at the same time, it'd overload their update servers.
You'll get it, probabally within a week, just be patient.
Still no update for me in UK, been trying for about 2 weeks, lost the poor signal problem, and back to uptodate message, must admit it would be nice if Acer was forthcoming with a bit of information.
The rollout started on the 27th april 24th for others no support what so ever from acer in the uk no infomation has to why some users in the uk have not got it thats why its a JOKE and yes i do no it is in order it goes by the devices serial number and i started this thread to get replys from people in the uk who havent got the update so i would no if anybody eles was still waiting not from people to tell me to be patient and that i do not no how acer roll's out there updates thankyou very much
I'm in the UK, on stock 3.2,never rooted and never flashed custom ROMs and still haven't received the ICS even after installing the Enhancement app. Sent Acer UK an email and one of the solutions suggested by the rep was to reset the device to factory settings which I refused to go ahead with. It took me a long time to get the home screens the way I wanted them and apps installed. So,for someone to suggest factory reset is out of the question. I'd rather stay on Honeycomb till Windows 8 devices starts showing up,meaning no more android tablets for me. This is my 2nd Tablet and I've been absolutely disappointed.

So you ***** about not getting the upgrade but refuse to do what was suggested by the manufacturer to facilitate the upgrade? And it's Acer's fault?
If you want ICS that badly then dl one of the many stock ICS roms and do it manually. No need to root either.

In all fairness we shouldn't have to factory reset are device and reinstall all the apps and get are home screens back how we had them just to receive a update from Acer in most cases anyway it does not work it didn't for me i did a factory reset, it sorted my issue out with the market not upgrading to play store but that was it still no ICS so factory reset doesn't always work that is just Acers answer to a lot of problems when the customer rings or emails regardless of the fault 9 times out of 10 this does solve the issue but i don't see the relevance to doing a factory reset so we can download the update from acers servers the problem is acers fault not the customer and not the device so i would ***** aswell if i was told to reset and reinstall all my data with no 100% guarantee that it would update to the ICS the stock ics roms are they fully working or is there still issues with the orientation and wifi ? Thanks for that response. Some ppl do not understand that not everyone is technically gifted in terms of installing custom ROMs or tweaking software on devices. One has to be very patient by following instructions to the letter and still, some end up bricking their devices.

I agree that a full reset should not be required, but complaining your unit is not getting OTA then not even trying what was suggested and blaming someone else is just silly. Now if the reset did not work THEN I would be complaining non-stop to whoever would listen.
I run OTA on wifes A500 and custom Flexreaper (atm) on my A500 (had Icylicious on previously).
Put custom on mine the day I got it as I didn't want to wait for OTA because I'm an impatient SOB.
The 1.031 leaked rom on here is the same rom my wifes tab was updated to OTA. So simply extracting the update.zip to sd card and flashing via power+vol button is the same as getting it OTA from Acer.
1. Download zip from http://vache-android.com/v1/download.php?fileID=151
2. Unzip and extract update.zip from archive
3. Transfer update.zip to root of your micro sd card
4. Power up tablet holding power + vol (closest to power button) until you see something like "booting recovery kernal image" in upper left
5. Tablet will update to ICS and reboot.
All your apps and settings will remain as is.

Believe me, I am certainly not "technically gifted" in any way, shape or form. LOL
It simply comes down to following instructions (sometimes having to read them 3 or 4 times as not everyone's first language is English) written by the developers.

Apparently the 1.031 has been OTA'd in both Europe and Canada that I have heard of (was originally reported as European release only) Take a read in the Dev section, I am sure the same question has been asked regarding compatibility with certain gen's.
I am not up on what the different gen's are but I believe the differences are in the locale settings such as wifi and gps and such.
Still trying to figure these all out.

Even I waited for a long time for any updates available, but there is no such update till now. Its better to root your tab and install a stock rom.
I did the same and its working much better than the custom rom which was installed in my tab.
I you chose to wait, than it may take some more time. Till than you might find Jelly bean in market. So, I suggest you to root your tab and install a custom rom.

Will it be safe to update?

With talks of 4.1 of 5.0 being announced this approaching week at Google I/O, and hopefully us Note users getting it, I'm a little concerned for those of us on an ICS kernel potentially infected with the ICS brick bug. Will it be safe for us to update our advices still through Kies on stock firmware?
I'm pretty sure that if Samsung decides to build 4.1 update for Note they will make sure to eliminate this problem, especially now when they're aware of it and know what and how causes it.

So, whenever the next update from Samsung comes out, be it 4.1, 5.0 or just some bug fixes for ICS 4.0, it should be safe to update?

If it's an official update, yes. But, if it does mess up and you haven't done anything to void the warranty, Samsung would fix it (or should).
But, I don't know if we will get an update or not.
From reading entropy's thread and getting an idea of what's been done before on other devices, its likely that Samsung will simply release an updated kernel without the emmc format command, thereby bypassing the issue, rather than an actual firmware update to correct the flawed emmc bug. If this is the case I would suggest it would be safer to first downgrade the kernel to a safe stock gb kernel before performing the upgrade.
That's all supposition though, until Samsung release an official statement we won't know what avenue they are taking. I really don't see why they wouldn't release a firmware update, perhaps it would mean everyone having to send they're phones in for the update to be applied rather than being able to do it through kies ourselves.

Don't want to thread jack, but I am in the same boat as you (awesome cousin /,,/) and the lagging is more than I expected it would. Curious to know if updating to 4.1.1 would be better or maybe a lite ROM without all the bloatware until the final version of 4.1.1 firmware is released by Samsung.

The stock JB ROM is as good or better than anything out there. No need to root unless you have a reason. Rooting will prevent your getting future OTA updates. Removing so called bloat (one man's bloat is another's useful app) doesn't speed up anything. That's a placebo leftover from OG phones when they had precious little memory.
Non of the non-stock ROMs retain full function depending which model you have. For instance, CM10 loses IR blaster and may cause bluetooth issues. I recommend the stock JB, its great, although I never found the 4.0.4 ICS ROM to have much lag at all.

No. You could wait untill Samsung decides to push an OTA update. I don't know when that is going to happen for your country.
At the moment only Hong Kong, Taiwan and the United Kingdom received 4.1.1.

I had try almost all ROM for GTab 2 7 and believe me the stable version is Stock ICS 4.0.4
The JB 4.1.1 UI looks ugly to me and lag when in the transition from apps drawer to home screen. In ICS 4.0.4 everything smooth and fluid. I tried several custom ROM like CM10, CM9, KWBR, AOKP etc but the UI doesn't seems to please me.
So now I flash to Malaysia ICS 4.0.4 ROM, rooted and happy with that. Looking forward for JB 4.1.2 to resolve the lag issue.

You know what helps with "lagginess" ???
Not expecting a tablet to have instantaneous response with its little bitty CPU and small RAM. People should have realistic expectations for a $200 device.

What it needs is a custom kernel, but unfortunatelly there isn't one available yet for stock Jb rom, at least not for 10.1.
Or is there?
to help with the lag on the stock rom ( or any rom) you can change the windows and transition animations scale to .5x ...
under SETTINGS...DEVELOPER OPTIONS ...
Thanks, it does seem to make it little more responsive, but still not smooth.
