Obsessed with Samsung packaging - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Am I the only one on these forums who has an obsession with keeping original boxes of phones intact, in their purest form?
Not just phones, I have my Macbook Pro's box wrapped in plastic, and my camera too. And I'm a bit irked that the white box of my Galaxy Note has some dark smudges at the bottom.
I normally sell phones whenever I am upgrading. When I sold my Samsung Galaxy S2, it still had the original screen protector. The person I sold it to said, "You made me feel like I'm unboxing it for the first time!"
Call me obsessed, I don't care ... anyone else like me here?

Me too. Everytime I buy a new phone the box is kept with all original accessories intact and is not touched until sold.
It is therefore in pristine as new condition...

I'm doing that too! The box still looks new for me, while the plastic films around the Note are intact, except for the one in the front screen which I had to replace with a different screen protector since the original one had lots and lots of logos on it and they're significant hindrances to usage.

I am a little bit confused here. Is it just the box that sat on your phone you try to keep in this pristine state, or is it the phone itself too? And why? is,n it diuificult to use your telefone in day-to-day use use when u are afraid of scratches and marks all the time?
For me: I dont understand the the point in this. For me my Galaxy Note is a device meant for day-to-day usage, and if that give my som marks and scratches on the surfacwe, no big deal... Its so much more fun to use my phone that way, without being over-careful i mean..

Its just the packaging we're talking about here. My Note itself does not have a protective case but has a screen protector. Handled with a lot of love Ü

You can use your phone rigidly on a day-to-day basis while still protecting it with cases and covers~ I actually handle mine without any fear of any sort of damage since I got it protected. Being careful doesn't necessarily mean over-careful.
I keep mine in my pants' pocket and from experience, it feels a tad scary with the Note bared in the pocket. I felt like it would split in half or something, being so thin and all. Lol.
But yeah--- the box. You gotta love the box. Plus it has sentimental value, for me at least. I also kept the receipt for it inside. XDDD

I am doing the same thing with all my devices, keep the box and all original plastics with cables, earphones, all paper documents etc. Had exactly the same response from buyers of my devices, the have the feeling that they are buying new device. Makes me feel good for the new owner. I would expect the same thing if I was buying used item.

I also keep the boxes of my gadgets. Am always changing gadgets and selling 2nd hand items with no box will lower the value of your item.

Count me in! Not just the Note, im also keep my old HD2 box in good condition

I do the same, keeping all packaging, plastic films, even twist ties from the cables. I do it for resale, but usually end up giving my devices to family or friends.

God, this phone is beautiful

So, I was one of the idiots who soft-bricked my phone by refusing to listen to common sense and have patience. I went ahead and installed various ROMs all while knowing that my Vibrant was hardware locked. Eventually, it caught up with me and I got in a situation I couldn't get out of. I had to get a new phone and got a loaner from T-mobile for a few dyas while I waited. Using that old, crappy phone really made me long for my Vibrant back.
Well, it just came yesterday (not hardware locked!) and I started trying a few of the different ROMs in this forum. Currently on Bionix 1.8. On my first Vibrant I had used one of those Invisible Shields, but as I look at my new one I'm thinking I may forego the shield and ride bare back (I am using a rubber case - still talking about phone here). I'm amazed at the how beautiful the display is on this phone and I think the shield actually cut down on how stunning this phone is. Plus, I've read how durable this gorilla glass is and it really doesn't smear. So, I may live to regret it, but I'm gonna give it a shot. This phone really is a work of art. Maybe it's all relative because i had to deal with that loaner, but I am so glad to have my Vibrant back.
I really like this phone too and it only seems to get better with time. We've got a fantastic dev community who consistently produce quality work, we've got great individuals in the forums who help others with questions, etcetera. Sure there are going to be bugs along the way but that happens...every major software/firmware producer put out patches for software (Just think of Apple & Microsoft).
I'm using a Realook SP on my Vibrant. It looks like nothing is there and many people don't even know I have a screen protector on my phone.

ive also heard that realook takes nothing away from the vibrant....as much as im obsessed with the screen quality of this phone, it just makes me feel very uneasy to think the screen is butt naked
Well this thing uses gorilla glass so its not really needed to have a screen protector. It will withstand a lot except for a hardcore hit and even a SP wont protect you from that.
Actually, I've heard people reporting that moderately sharp objects can scratch the Vibrant screen; the Gorilla Glass is more useful against impact/cracking than scratching.
Also, +1 on the Realook not taking away from screen quality. I got my Vibrant used and it had a SP on it that made it look sorta fuzzy; I finally decided to try a different SP and got a Realook, and WOW what a difference.
Steinheil Ultra Crystal is also pretty good. I am using it atm but I can't decide between that and the Realook. The Realook seems clearer when there are no smudges, and seems like it fits just a tiny bit better (it seems slightly bigger and thus seems to cover more exactly), but smudges easier than the Steinheil and the smudges are more noticeable.
Thanks for the suggestions. I may try one these other SP, but I still can't get over how great the screen is without one. And unlike my old SP, the gorilla glass does not smudge. What little it does, I can simply wipe on my shirt and it looks sparkling new. With my old SP, I had to use special lens or LCD glass cleaner.
This phone sure is beautiful, and I have had a really hard time trying to find a SP that doesnt distort the image quality but would hold up to the abuse I regularly subjected a phone to. ReaLook SP had my vote for the longest time, but one day out of curiosity I tried trimming down a SP intended for my TRIMBLE unit... and it has my vote... it is crystal clear, and made from some sort of window cling plastic that has yet to recieve damage from my haphazard phone manners. Just my .02, but dont be afraid to try out several different products, after all the 30-40 bucks you spend finding the right SP, is well worth it on a 500 dollar phone.
Thanks for the infomation
Thanks for the review/input on the SP's The original ones I got from TMO were about the worst I have ever used. I will try the ones all of you have mentioned
I would recommend a screen protector. I used mine completely bare for a few months, always being very careful only to put it into pockets with no other objects, and making sure that there was no grit on the screen before using it. It still started developing hairline scratches. You have to hold the phone to the right angle under a light to see them, but they are there. I've ordere a TPU case now, and I'm using one of those ultra cheap, 5 for $1 eBay screen protectors. It works fine, doesn't seem to detract from the screen, and feels smooth and pleasant like the original glass.

I hear you loud and clear.
Going through a near identical experience right now, except I will be without my phone for 2 weeks minimum (has to ship to US and back). I really can't believe how much I'm missing my phone. Really amazes me that there are so many complaints about the Vibrant. It's an absolutely fantastic device once you have it setup correctly. I wouldn't trade it for any other phone in the world.
2-3 days was the turn around time at T-mobile?
Yes, but I had to pay for expedited shipping $20 vs. $10 for 7 days,
I haven't gone through your experience, but one of my buddies was trying to sell me a his MyTouch slide for a good price and as soon as he turned it on I was like "ohhh.... is that what the screen looks like?" lol. For anyone who thinks this screen isn't all that great go play with another phone for a little hahaha

I originally wanted an Evo but got a Vibrant instead when the Evo was sold out everywhere. But I am loving it.
I was in a car with 2 Evo owners and we had our phones all running Google Navigation (whew.. one of the times my GPS worked before JI6 . My screen looked so much more colorful and crisper than theirs. It wasn't even close.

Build Quality

HI all
I was wandering how is the build quality in this phone?
I would love to give it to my girlfriend but was just wandering after hearing/reading some negative comments about galaxy s 1 build.
Thank you in advance for any comments, or links to articles or such.
Regards
Kirior
I think it's awesome. Even it's plastic, it's really assertive and the back cover stays so tight. Just the opening is a bit tricky... But you only need to do this once, luckily. If you need to change sim-cards or memory cards daily, then I don't recommend this phone.
Samsung isn't known as "Samsuck" for no reason. Buy her an HTC phone. I would steer clear of any Samsung phones.

stop trolling, it's pretty good even though its plastic it feels solid
Its fine really, solid despite the choice of materials, feels a lot better in the hand than the original.

I think a light phone is better. Much less likely to break when dropped because over the same distance there will be much less kinetic energy to dissipate on impact.

To try and add some value to an otherwise useless post, I haven't owned a Samsung phone since the CDMA i730 Windows phone. It was a funky phone without a lot of joy and some really questionable design choices. From there I had a succession of HTC phones spanning six years. They were all solid, ran well, and gave me little to complain about. I got an LG phone which I kept for a whopping three weeks before realizing it was a pile of rubbish. So, with an unbiased view, I chose the Samsuck GS2 and couldn't be happier. Back on topic, the build quality is great. Fit, finish, style, feel are all what you'd expect from a high-end device. Alas, because it's shiny parts are exposed front and back, all that beauty has to be hidden by a case which makes it look pedestrian. I just got my Case-Mate tough case today and the phone now looks mummified. Oh well, at least it's protected.
I really dont understand the questions about build quality the sgs or sgs2. My orignal sgs(vibrant) was heavy duty. Yes its light and yes its made out of plastic. But ive dropped my vibrant from various heights and the battery cover never popped off, no marks on screen or anything. Both phones, specially the sgs2 feel like a lighter, thinner HD2. Niether feels flimsy, cheap, breakable.
One of the Hd2s ive owned fell from bathroom sink to tile floor, and shattered after a 3 -4foot drop.
Build Quality is important to me as I work with dogs(90%) and other various animals. Besides the psycho owners, I deal with psycho 200pound dogs on a daily basis. I get bumped, biten, jumped on, rubbed, attacked etc all day, everyday. Not a single scratch, scrap, dent on the sgs2 and thats with no protection for 3 weeks.
Now the only bad quality choice samsung and other manufactors use is the damn cheap silver/chrome/aluminum bezel around the phones. Since I dont use cases consistently im prone to scratch the bezel by the end of ownership.
Another plus is the couple cases I do have dont add extra bulk like other phones. Im waiting on quality extended batteries to come.
HI guys
Thx for all replies, all in all i have bought SGS2 for her. She is in heavens now i guess that's all that matters and she does take care of the phones so i know i will not land on the floor or such just wanted to make sure.
thanks again and for me the thread is closed.

I find the build quality of the S2 pretty decent although I had my doubts when I just got the phone. After using it for a couple of weeks I think the build quality is fine and I'm sure this phone will last a long time.
However, today I had the HTC Sensation in my hands for the first time and I must confess that the build quality of the Sensaion is clearly better.
The build quality is much better than i expected. Yes, it is plastic, but feels pretty solid, no creaking or flex. I have an SE Arc also, similar thickness, but would say that the gs2 is easily the more high quality build of the two.
Regarding the battery cover, it is thin and flimsy, but i cant imagine a new one costing much if you needed one. What bothers me more is the texture, it feels more slick than a shiny back, but a case might fix that.

Dust under screen

So I have a few specs of dust under my screen. One makes the screen look like it has a dead pixel. I called Samsung and they want me to mail it in. Pry 7 day turnaround. I bought it out of town which is s five hour round trip so an exchange is possible.
I have an ipad 2 so I would only be having small withdrawals from my tab.
Should I go ahead and send it in and hope for the best or plan a road trip. I'm leaning towards shipping it as they are paying both ways. So zero cost.
Anyone else have dust and what would you do.

Got the same on my white galaxy tab 10.1 that I bought at Best Buy two days ago (maybe part of the initial Google I/O limited edition batch?).
I see four particles of dust but only when there is direct light over the screen. Thinking about exchanging it.
A curiosity, is your tab the white or metallic gray model?
Thanks!
Had 8 specs of dust under the screen towards the top right... made me so angry I returned it and plan on waiting for a better quality tab
I had one speck and planning to return it at BB. I got the white 16GB one. I'm afraid that the replacement will have more.

Are they visible under any conditions or only under certain conditions (e.g. direct sun light over the screen)?
I had this issue with 2 tabs, including the one I currently have. I saw it, exchanged it at best buy, and the new one has it too. I'm waiting for them to get a new shipment to exchange it again.
Silver 32g
The dust is visible from all angles, even when the screen is off.
I'm waiting on an exchange unit from compusa because my first tab had slight light bleed, specs of dust, and liquid-looking blotches under the screen only visible under direct sunlight. It also had some type of big, weird, dusty looking spot under the screen. when I first noticed the light bleed i was ok with it but after i noticed the other issues i decided to return it. I'm afraid the exchange unit will have these issues so I believe I should have sent it in to Samsung. It probably would have taken longer but atleast they'd make sure I received a tablet without these screen issues... probably lol but who knows?
I didn't take the dust under the screen thing that seriously, until today when I used my tab under some bright lights and noticed a glaring white piece of dust in one corner of the screen. Highly reflective on a black background and relatively noticeable. I'm really pretty amazed. I'm still within my Best Buy return window, and will probably bring it back tomorrow.
I'm curious, for those who returned it to Best Buy, did you tell them the true reason you were returning it and did they give you any trouble? Or did you simply say you weren't happy with it?
For those who exchanged, did any of you ultimately get a perfect unit?
Not sure if I should accept a single piece of dust in the far corner of the screen, or gamble on getting a perfect screen on the next try. Won't be much of an improvement if the next screen ends up having 8 pieces of dust and a couple of dead pixels.
Edit: Just got curious and took out a penlight. Found two more central pieces of dust under the screen. Best advice to new GTAB 10.1 owners - never look too closely at your screen. You might not be happy with what you find!
just made up some BS about other issues you have with the tablet.

Yup, thats what I usually do if I have a dead pixel. Not worth aruging with the salesperson about whether its a "Significant Defect". Was just wondering what Best Buys current attitude toward these things was.
Edit: Just did the next obviously necessary thing: ran the penlight over my XOOM screen. Found extremely small pinhead size specs in a few places which seem to be parts of the screen surface with slightly greater reflectance, but nothing that appears to be dust. So, the much criticized XOOM screen seems to be dust and dead pixel free, at least in my case.
Mistery solved
I returned my Galaxy Tab to Best Buy for a replacement. I opened the new box crossing the fingers and ... the new tab was flawless! Zero dust anywhere!
Two days later I noticed two specs of dust under the screen. Hmm, I thought I did a pretty accurate inspection... I checked it very carefully again. Only two very small specs of dust: one on the right and one on the left side of the screen.
Today I check again and I can count eight specs of dust!
Is it possible they enter from outside?
I checked for possible gaps between the glass screen and the plastic case and I found a gap all around the edges of the glass screen. Not large but I can stick a sheet of paper in it.
Another possible explanation is that dust enters from the speaker grills and the connector socket. The position of the specs of dust is close to them. I think that the latter is the most probable cause.
Anyway, it is a fact that this is not dust that was trapped during the build process, this is dust that entered the tab in the 4 days that I used it. This means that the dust will keep accumulating: if I got eight specs of dust in 4 days I can imagine what I can get in a year!
This one goes back to Bets Buy too and this time for a refund.
It is really a pity, I really liked this tab!

I returned my tab to Best Buy (2nd return, first was because of lcd defect [rainbow sheen]) the second one I got was a white one that had dust under the screen. Looking over their return policy there is nothing other than the standard "we reserve the right to refuse any return/exchange" disclaimer. Those of us experiencing these issues, please do the rest of us a huge favor when returning your tablets, don't lie or misrepresent your reason for return. Be honest with the person handling the return, thereis no valid reason that they should deny it. Hopefully Best Buy will clue in with the amount of charge backs they're hopefully going to have to do in the near future.
The only thing that really pisses me off in regards to the whole situation is that none of the tabs the have left have unlocked bootloaders. It's almost insulting that the first 5 that samsung shipped for release day and none of the secondary shipments do.
Except that best buy is now requiring valid id for returns because they are tracking what people exchange for some reason. Eventually they will stop you is my guess but who knows. Just be careful.
Well along with dust under my screen...somehow a small bug got under there too.
This is very frustrating...
Sorry for the crappy quality

Just received my third tab..
First one had minimal dust specs and screen separation, se ond one had fingerprint like smudges and dust particles under the screen and screen seemed loose, my third one has a tighter screen and only 1 dust particle...
I think i will just keep this one...

I have 1 speck of dust; unfortunately it is half way down the luminous battery icon so very easy to spot if you want to find it. I noticed it right away and haven't had any new pieces since then (2 weeks). Mines is the black 16gb UK one.
If it had not have been over the battery I would never have seen it and it does seem to be moving slightly so I am hopeful it will one day hit the black status bar and disappear. It depends where these things are as to whether they are annoying; personally, I get the odd speck in my eyes every now and again and you don't notice it after a week or so. The advice not to go looking for them is very good - you may well not like what you find but also it's not the end of the world if the device functions. The first scratch anywhere is the worse on any device but after that you realise it is no biggie. My ipod has a giant crack in the screen so it could be a lot worse.
I went through two 32GB at Best Buy both with horrible (5+) pieces of dust under the screen. The second one had like a piece of string or something a couple mm long under it. Third unit appears completely flawless (for now) and I am quite satisfied.
Is anybody using any kind of case? Or just naked?

What if the S5 was metal??

Would people still be complaining?
Seriously, over 90% of the time when I see someone with a phone they have it in a plastic case.
The uproar of the S5 is annoying...if it bothers you that much then get the HTC One which will probably end up in a plastic case.
According to AndroidCentral, the S5 screen is now as bright and good as the Note 3 (which has one of the best screens I've ever used), a better camera, and waterproofing, not to mention theyre still one of the few phones to offer a micro sd slot.
If anything it should have had 3GB ram and started at 32GB instead of 16GB, but in every other instance it looks like a solid device.
It does not need metal, but pls not that ugly, even moto g looks better
Samsung is only caring about our money, how to make the most money
I'd go out and say that it looks worse than the S4
Well look at my thread HERE... looks like we may be getting a metal one in May

Waterproof because that's an issue the masses have right? People jumping on the ones who aren't blindly following samsung are equally as annoying.
It should have better material along with a fresh look. It should have a newer version of TW that looks/ feels new and doesn't crush 8+GB of storage. It should focus a little on the sound quality.
The HTC One had a totally revamped design and revamped version of Sense and it only won smartphone of the year. If this phone didn't say Samsung, it would be a huge fail

The back cover isn't the problem, like you said most are going to use a case. I certainly will buy the Buckdroid and the Otter Box Defender also don't confuse waterproof with water resistant. It's "only" water resitant not water proof.
I don't want metal. Metal = heavier. I would have like a thin bezel though...
I don't mind the plastic at all. Too many people complain about it not being metal. Plastic is lightweight, less prone to scratches or damages when dropped, and you can remove the cover for the battery/SD card, which is always a good thing.

People aren't complaining because of plastic. The problem is the hype created becacuse of rumored UHD screen, 64bit processor, a giant battery and even the deal Sammy made with Google. I don't know if 3gb are really is necessary or not, I never used more than 1.3GB but 32GB of storage would be nice. Maybe it's because of the new rumored Galaxy F, they say the GS5 will be cheaper than the GS4 so it kinda makes sense.
no, the material is no problem for me.
what maters to me is:
1. back cover design. I'm not type of people who like to use colorful case, I like the transparent one so when I use my phone, people will know what phone I'm using. And that design is not work for me. I personally more like pattern of the S4 back cover. It feels more elegant to my eyes. And don't say those faux leather in note 3. I like it almost. So if the S5 use those like in note 3. I'll be more attract to s5 rather than z2.
2. the battery. It's already boosted 200 mAh from the s4. That's great but not enough. I own myself a S4. It's pretty durable when use power saving mode. but that's where I hate it. When in power saving mode. When I move from outdoor to an indoor place. The screen is very2 dark and I almost can't see it. I don't know about this mode in S5, or the stamina mode in sony device. If same as in my S4, then I need bigger battery for my next phone so I can use it in full day without those power saving things.
3. As like many other people in xda discuss it about when it's first implemented. knox things. I hate when samsung finally use it. I know it's just a flag, but I didn't know how the regulation about that knox warranty here in my country. And if that knox used as one of main upgrade (like that knox countainer in S4 upgrade from 4.2.2 to 4.3), obviously we here can't use it. And make the upgrade less.. useful I guess. Since phone performance will not dramatically change because the phone still have same component

I totally agree. Plastic is tougher and lighter.

The only thing is, who put out these rumors? Samsung never hinted at any of these.
If the phone were metal, it would be metal. Samsung has always used a good grade of plastic for their high end devices and I prefer plastic over metal for my phone. The design is not ugly either, to me it is a decent design but it's also an uninspiring design looking at two factors.
1. Samsung claimed that the S5 would have a new design, claiming they will go back to the basics with this design.
2. The design looks like the past offerings. I understand brand identity, but aside from the back and the usb port, the design almost matches the S4 and a smaller version of the Note 3.
its not about metal or plastic , its about the design it self :silly:

But thinking about it, the resulting design is very logical as opposed to the wet dreams of forumers, it's a mix between the S4 and the Note 3 with a few new elements. As logical as it gets. Not very exciting, but probably a rather good design choice usability wise.

If this phone didn't say Samsung, it would be a huge fail

judging by the released shots of the next gen HTC one, it looks nearly identical to this generations.
Waterproof isnt an issue? Do you know how many people get denied service on their phones for "water damage" even though the phones were never dropped in water? I've had it happen to me multiple times merely because steam/rain/humidity turn the sensors on to indicate water damage even though Ive made sure they never got wet.
People can be such hypocrites sometimes, everyone was bashing the iPhone for being the same thing over and over again, then it was samsung and everyone hailed the HTC one, now they are going to release the exact same phone let's hear how they gonna defend that. Problem is its very hard and costly to come out with different designs especially when you're releasing more than one device a year. I don't like the s5 and don't think will buy it

I don't care about plastic or metal but let's face ever since the s3 samsung has put out extremely fragile phones that are prone to cracking. The s2 was made from plastic but it could take a beating not the s3 or s4. I use to see cracked iPhone 4 screens but since the iPhone 5 I see less cracked iphones and more and more cracked Samsung's.
The Nexus 5 is made from plastic but it has a very nice feel and feels more durable

If it was metal then when it falls and reach the floor the repair cost will be double at least...

Metal is overrated.

Questioning my purchase...hand discomfort.

Hey everyone...
I love just about everything with my new S6 Edge...but I have to say that the narrow metal band around the sides starts to dig into my hands after using it for a while, and gets uncomfortable. I am kind of wishing I went with the regular S6 now...
I guess I could get a case to help with this...?? I usually hate cases and would want something absolutely minimal..maybe even just a bumper case.
Thoughts or recommendations?
That sucks...I hope I don't have this issue. Also, why not go exchange it?
having same issue with me though is weneva i type n use one hand n say i get to the other side of the keyboard i smash into another letter...I believe a case will help i just ordered mine.

Which cases did you go for?
The Edge is so think and slippery it's probably a bad idea to carry it naked. I have big hands and it does feel awkward to hold. I'm debating if I won't to go get the clear T-Mobile case at cost or save a few more bucks on Amazon. I just want something now. As far as going with the S6 I just like the look of the Edge a lot better.
I went for the spigen neo hybrid it provides not only a nice grip but also protection it also comes with a free screen protector. Should look into it
Same issue here. I was already going to send mine back because of scratches, but the more I use the edge, I'm thinking I'd be happier with a regular one. I'm torn because I think the regular one looks awful, where as the edge looks gorgeous. The digging into awful, I could probably get used to it, but I'm just running into little usability things here and there making it tricky for me to use. I use my phone a lot one handed in landscape mode, I barely ever use portrait view. I'm finding it's hard to grip one handed in landscape comfortably, and the screen ends up registering my fingers that are holding onto the phone since I need them to be a bit more tight and on the screen when im doing one handed. If it had a little more side to it , I dont think this would be an issue, and wouldnt dig into my fingers. Also it's a ***** getting off a flat table. I love the bubble effect the edge has on video though, really makes it pop. I'm afraid I'll be sacrificing too many positives for comfort and functionality.
This is the only thing that has me at a crossroads between both phones grr,
I'v read a lot about the S6 Edge being sharp after continuous use and talk about the color problems with a pinkish discoloration that only effects the S6 Edge. However the price is probably justified, I mean how many phones look this sleek and eye catching? Probably saves me from spending it on other random **** so might as well invest, plus developers will be working on tonnes of additional features for the Edge's capability, I think the stock features are just the start of great ideas.
However the cons about the regular S6 make me look back to the Edge ha it's a roundabout, I'll admit when I went into O2 UK and experienced the phone first hand I loved it, I own a Iphone 6+ and comparing it with the regular S6 minus the screen difference I found it hard to differentiate the two afar, the beveled edges and design positioning (speakers, power input etc).
The Edge gives a remarkable & memorable first glance I WANT IT feeling however the recent user reviews are wavering my urge to preorder the phone or purchase on-release. I'm not sure how the sharp edge where the glass meets metal will effect the user? I don't want to buy a phone that hurts ha i'm not buying a phone to experience pain after 20 minutes of use in one-hand, or isn't it as bad as first put?
I would hate regretting my decision in buying the Edge, I'm not a hate on apple person I have an Iphone and have owned many android devices mainly HTC and wanted to try out an Apple product, but I find it hard to tell the regular S6 apart from a IP6 apart from specifications.
In the end I'll probably go with my gut and purchase the Edge, the emerald color looks magnificent but there's been no answer on which carrier will stock it or when, hints on end of July but I can't wait that long ha, the black/navy looks amazing, black in the dark but a great navy hue in light is amazing, the fingerprint problem isn't a biggie, quick wipe on your shirt and it's sorted?
Any Edge users comment on the sharp issue or have experienced any discomfort in using the device?
--- I want it ))))
Yea its discomfort but a case should solve the problem. Its hard getting use to this phone as the screen pops out instead of the back. Also headphone jack on the bottom is weird to me. Other than that phone is a beast picture quality is amazing.
I use to have this problem with my note edge. Once you put a thin case on the phone it's feels amazing, almost like Samsung built the phone with the intentions of having a case on
Sent from my SM-N915V
I had a similar problem. The metallic edges I didntnfind were to sharp...but The thinness of the phone + a flat back + slipperiness made it kind of awkward to hold.
I have a spigen case that definitely made it more comfortable to hold. The edges are thicker and softer as well.
I was going to go caseless but I didn't want to take any chances. Once I put the below case on it its even better. I think it's perfect. Good Grip and minimal bulk.

Stupid Question about the case, It doesn't effect the usability of the Edge (screen) does it? I.E Swiping from the right/left
Thanks
Have any of you bought the bumper case by spigen? I am thinking about picking it up.
Other than the sharp sides, I don't really have anything bad to say about the phone. It looks stunning, has been nice and peppy, and battery life has been fine for me.

No issues what so ever with the case and the screen. Fits perfect.
OP, i warned people before the phone ever came out.. i posted what you're experience here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/s6-s6-edge-t3043748/post59649530#post59649530
i kind of got trolled and glad to see i was right...
guess all you can do is get a case to cover up those razor sharp edges :cyclops:
Man, this post kinda bothers me now about the Edge. I normally like to rock my phones naked, because I like showing off the beauty of my phones. Now I've got some thinking to do before making my purchase... I did order the slim case from Spigen, and it just came in today, but every single time I do put a case on my phones they only last a week before I can't stand them any more... Sigh...

My advice is to feel the phone for a few days and then return it if it's too bad. I know it doesn't sound practical, but not everyone will have the same experience. I hope it feels good for you!
yes better to try out both in person, me personally i loved holding the edge i didnt want to put it back on display haha
Worst case scenario, if you can't return it or exchange it, you get a slim case to improve comfort and grip on the edges. Best part is you don't lose the benefits of the curved screen, whether it's software features or just the look and feel of the curved edges. I'm really happy with my case.
