[Q] HBO Go - Kindle Fire General

Anyone had any luck getting HBO Go to work? I'm not rooted and I get the "This device is not compatible with HBO Go" after the load screen. Getting that to work would float my boat.
I attached the .apk if someone is rooted and wants to try it, but I'm suspecting that Go lets the HBO servers see what device I have and waves the "uh uh" finger.
Thank you for your time.

Gives me the same deal. I'm on CM7 and rooted.

Wow, I'm kind of surprised to see that question here
Over on the Amazon forums someone discovered that it seems to do some sort of compatibility check over the network when it starts, so if you turn wireless off when you first start it, then enable it when it says you need to connect to the internet to access content, it is able to skip the check and it will work.
Of course, there are issues actually using it once it starts that HBO will have to fix. For example, when I adjust the volume while a video is playing it stops and either goes back to the beginning or back to the menu.

CM7 and rooted and it works for me, although video is pretty chunky... seems like I get a higher quality feed on my iphone + ipad... (doesn't seem to do the "optimizing video quality" screen on the kf)

Wow, yes that works albeit poorly. Thanks all.

It works! http://youtu.be/05T2O_I6bOo

For those on Stock rom and any problem related to streaming video not working on rooted ROM-s, use Voodoo OTA rootkeeper.
First you need to do backup in it, than activate Temporary unroot and app's should work.

Netflix App WORKING on my DX!

Guys, the netflix app that was just released for a few HTC devices and the two nexus phones, WORKS on my DX. link to post with the apk is in the Incredible section of the forums:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13730742&postcount=16
Hooray!!!
It appears to work on mine... Until I try to watch a movie. It looks like it is about to start playing but never buffers the movie/starts playing. I just see the screen with the play/pause button....
Anyone watching shows/movies successfully on a DX?
Yeah mine never buffers and just stays on the black screen as if it's about to play.
Working on mine also....awesome!!
About as good as a queue manager. Still wont play anything.
Streams on my X fine. I'm running rooted 595 GB.

Are you on wifi? Not sure if that would make a difference.
I am using Liberty GB V0.5
Not working on mine. Installs fine, runs fine, but errors out when I try to play anything. Tells me that my device is not supported and to check out the netflix website for a list of supported devices.
Im running GB 595, what are the people that this has worked for running?
***EDIT***
I uninstalled and then reinstalled and it is working great.
I get a black screen with movie title, pause/play button, and timeline. Would be so nice to see this working.

Yep, wifi. Haven't tried it on 3G yet, crappy signal in the basement where I work.
Could the new Flash update be tied to this app working correctly?

Thanks, some hope then. Would be nice over 3G.
Just tested on my DroidX running .595 Deodexed over 3G and it seem to stream fine.
Oh and I also updated Flash 10.3 before installing Netflix.
I just tried in on 3G and it picked right back up where I left off.
Installed. Says device is incompatible. Thoughts?

I installed the Flash 10.3 update earlier today, however, (on my rooted DX .340) I get the "device not supported" message when trying this Netflix app.
I get to the black screen with the play/pause button, but no video. I'm running deodexed 591. On the Nook forums they've had luck by editing the build.prop to mimic an authorized phone. I wonder if the same would work for the DX.
I wish I could help more :-\
Deodexed rooted .595, a few build.prop edits from imoseyon's bundle that just affect wifi scan intervals and stuff. I do have the flash update.
Really nothing special here, works on wifi and 3G just fine.
I edited the build.prop and it works great but I lost Swype
I'm running .591 LibertyGB V.5 and I'm getting the black screen as well. Kinda odd it's working for some and not all. There's gotta be a common denominator that is causing it to work. It seems most are running GB and on Flash 10.3. I have installed, deleted, reinstalled... Rebooted.... Doesn't seem to want to work. Is there anyway to strip the build.prop from a working device to try and mimic what could be what's blocking it?

If you are having problems, boot into CWM and reflash the rom right over what you are running. It will backup the apps and everything for you and you will be back up and running in under a half hour.
You might want to try this before doing that though:
Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All
Scroll down to Youtube and select it. Hit "Clear Data" and then exit out and try Youtube again.
Are you running stock or a custom ROM? It has been so long since I have run stock that I wouldn't be able to help you out with that. I am currently running SyndicateROM Frozen. It's sold as a rock, fast, and I can go days without rebooting.
Getting the same EXACT issue as the OP. Running stock and rooted EC05. I think it started recently with the latest YouTube update. It didn't do that when I first got EC05.
Yes, me too. Stock EC05. I also noticed that the video camera and stock video player stop working when the youtube app fails.

Have you considered trying a custom ROM? I tried the scenario you described and didn't have a problem. I am running SyndicateROM Frozen, but there are others to choose from.
Just a thought.
Thanks, I'm sure that would help but I don't want to root.
I read the reviews in the Market for our current version of YouTube and apparently a lot of other users on different phones are getting the same problem. Many 1 star reviews lately because of it. As I stated earlier, this didn't start occurring until recently, which I attribute to the latest upgrade of the app.
Mine is the inability for the phone to roam on the PCS band. Really Samsung? Fix the bug!
Yes, this happened a lot to me when I was running EC05. So annoying.
Sounds like it's an EC05 bug. I refuse to power cycle 3 times a day for luxurious mutimedia. My Flash works, that's all I need. But wait, now the same error occurs when checking Voicemail, taking video, using the stock player... what's next? But I will not power cycle.
Sent from my Stock Unrooted Epic 4G running EC05
I think the Youtube glitch was due to a problem Google was having. If you've noticed, Gmail also had an insane lag and fail to send rate during that time too. Might actually just be Google servers.
I had the same issue but it stopped after so long and I'm back to normal.
I tried a fix I read in another thread and it seems to work. Uninstall the official twitter app and use another like tweetcaster. I have power cycled and haven't had that youtube problem anymore. Don't know why that worked.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Unmount your SD card and Mount it back again and that will fix the youtube app. I don't know why it fixes this problem for me. Let me know if it worked for you.
The only rom this happens to me on is ec05 plus.

Anyone Else Tempted to Go Back to v3.01?

Is anyone else here tempted to go back to HC v3.01?
One of the main things I do on my A500 is watch downloaded videos, and I encounter quite a few problems with that on HC v3.1 that I never encountered on HC v3.01. MoboPlayer just flat out no longer works on my device -- I get nothing but unrecoverable lock-ups and force-closes. RockPlayer is still working (thankfully), but not in hardware mode. Even the stock video player can't play any of the files that I previously could.
Everything else that came with HC v3.1 is enough behind-the-scenes that I just don't notice it or it has no real world benefit for me. In other words, I definitely wasn't missing any of it back when I was running HC v3.01. I'm just not seeing any real world benefit to the v3.1 upgrade -- I'm only seeing negatives. I'm very tempted to go back.

Had none of these issues. Maybe reinstall your player apps onto the new platform, especially since MOBO should prompt you to download a specific codec pack... other than that, maybe let us know what formats you're using so we can give more precise info.

I deleted/reinstalled both RockPlayer and MoboPlayer, but no joy. I even factory reset my A500, and then after basic configuring only installed Mobo and the exact same issues occurred.
I'm attempting to play xvid files that worked just fine using MoboPlayer, RockPlayer, and the stock player on stock HC 3.01, but they just wont play on stock HC v3.1. For me, this is a HC v3.1 dealbreaker.
Edit: Just got notified of 4.010.10 gen2, downloaded it, updated, and things are now working a lot better. A little quirkiness was going on in both RockPlayer and Mobo, but it went away when I deleted both apps and reinstalled. Since that update, the stock player works fine on these same xvid files again.
Maybe I'll stick with HC v3.1 after all! (unless the next incremental breaks it again like the 4.010.8 gen1 did)
I had the opposite experience. Videos that would not play smoothly in 3.01, now play great in 3.1. The only issue I am having with 3.1 is the dropping WiFi, but hitting the reset button seems to be solving that for now.

When you say "solving" does that mean you have to do the reset thing regularly?
(It may just be a syntactic difference, but if it was fixed, I'd have said "solved it for now". "Solving" implies an on-going condition of fix and re-fix)(Genuine question - I'm not commenting on your use of English)
To the OP:
I have no intention of letting my A500 update to 3.1. I've seen waay too many posts of bugs and faults in it.
OK, the rooters and rom flashers all say to root and delete this and do that.. I say you shouldn't HAVE to root and delete to fix the update's errors!.
Nope, me = 3.01 for now. I'll see what 3.2 might be like..
I will not never and ever go back to 3.0.1 for 1 pure main reason
USB support of my camera... I plug and the gallery popup and can transfert the files directly without thinking something else... (I hope we will have some kind of create folder by date or else...)

I have to pretty much agree -- I have seen more problems than benefit. With the latest incremental update things seem to be working a lot better, but I am worried about what the next incremental update could break.
I didn't see much of a purpose in updating my HTC Evo 4G phone from Froyo to Gingerbread either. I immediately went back to a Froyo based ROM until the same ROM dev came out with a custom Gingerbread ROM. These OTA's from the manufacturer aren't always the gold and jewels everyone anticipates.

I never had two much of a problem hosting my Pentax DSLR camera on HC v3.01. It was sometimes slow to discover it, but then I started using the USB Mount All app everything USB was discovered quickly.
I'm still not 100% happy with my video performance on v3.1. It's much better with 4.010.10 gen2, but it's still not as good as it originally was with v3.01.
I was experiencing major issues with the Wifi after the update as well. It was really annoying.
So last week I tried a bunch of things. What worked for me was to set the wifi to turn off when the screen was off. Now, if I am still downloading things it stays connected with the screen off. Also, I still hear the notification sound when an email comes in even if the tablet has the screen off and nothing running. Its been one week and I haven't noticed a difference between it being on or off with the screen. I haven't had to reset the tablet nor have I had to delete any files. It runs perfecto mundo and doesn't drain any extra battery. Last night I lost about 8% overnight. Just something to try out.
No way I would ever go back lol. Using full keyboard and mouse with RDP makes this tablet take advantage of the speed and power of powerful desktop at home. ANd using the HoneyVillain ROM everything runs so well and smooth including all my videos.
In a word, no. I'd never go back. 3.1 has been great all around.

When making a post like this, it's a good idea to just throw the build you're on out there. I for one have no issues with 3.1. I never had issues with the first build that came and I am not having issues with the recent build seeded yesterday. I use Moboplayer as well.
Did you do any sort of modding? ie: Did you get 3.1 or 3.0.1 unofficially through XDA or are you/have you been running completely stock? There must be some reason user A. is getting one result and B. another - if it's not faulty hardware then it's faulty software. However, you said you factory reset. The last thing I can possibly think of is that you modded and it's messed with the system somehow or there really is some faulty hardware.
I'm running 4.010.10, I came from 4.010.08. I've been running stock from day 1. I've never rooted, nor installed any ROMs or mods (wifi supplicant, etc.) from XDA and as I mentioned, no trouble at all.

So what you're saying is you have wifi set to go OFF when the screen is off but it stays ON?
And that's not something anyone considers to be a bug (regardless of if it helped your wifi stay on or not)???

[Q] I want to flash a Rom...

I really want to install ICS on my rooted Kindle Fire. I would like to flash this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1528024
My question is, how would I go about this?
I know you have to install a recovery, and I am assuming that is done through KFU.
My questions are:
1) Is that a good and stable Rom?
2) Anyone use this Rom?
3) Any risks I should know about?
4) Could someone just give me plain instructions on how to flash the Rom and what I need to do beforehand?
I'm still new to the Kindle Fire scene, but not to Android. I used to flash Roms on my old LG Ally all the time.
Thanks
I have been using the ICS CM9 Kang ROM Themed Energy Rom. It is amazing. The only downside is no HD video which means no Netflix/Youtube HD, but I can live without. The only other little glitches I have seen is when playing the sims free play the models go white occasionally, but besides that its overclocked and runs smooth as butter.
As far as I have seen there haven't been any issues with it, and I have had it on my tab since the 6th.
To get it fully installed you need to get the kindle fire utility found here in the forums. Make sure you do a factory data reset on the device run the utility to Root and then install the latest TWRP. Download the rom put it on the device, boot into TWRP and do a factory data reset there and clear your cache. Click flash and put the ROM on. Let it stand for about 30 minutes after the first install and you will be good to go.
If you need more detailed instructions I can help you out just let me know.

There are a couple of the HD games that don't work, but for the most part I haven't had a problem. I have the following installed and tested
Dragon Fly
FLCommando
Defender
Cordy
OnLive
DroidEmuLite
Birzzle
Angry Birds
Sims Free Play (Glitches occasionally)
World of Goo
Words with Friends
Greed Corp
Star Legends
Overkill
Blood and Glory
Air Attack HD Part 1
I haven't tested more than those though and it seems to work just fine for me.

He means to let it sit for 30 min without doing anything after it first boots up, then reboot and you'll be able to use it.
Its always best to leave a device alone for a half an hour to let the system settle and then reboot. They call that "baking".

Just one small question, is there a way to get the Trebuchet launcher to stay in landscape?
When you tap the time in the corner and tap the settings there is a slide menu called "auto screen rotate". Toggle that switch to off and you will be good to go.

(Solved) KODI makes... Shield tv randomly woke up itself

Just noticed after system upgrade 2.1 console turn up itself. My console is linked through cec hdmi future to Samsung smart and when console boots up tv turns on too. Did fresh reinstall 2.1 and problem still there. Change log about 2.1 has been said they improve some black level of hdmi (something like that) looks like this somehow effected random turns on maybe... Any one have this issues or I'm one here with this and any kind of fix?

You have to disable CEC control on Shield or on Tv set. Samsung calls it Anynet, maybe.

Everything stock.
But I start thinking, is any possibility could kodi might call for this all, coz early stage 2.1 when come out I didn't had this woke up problems or maybe just did make attention... under kodi 15.1. And then after come kodi official 15.2 and kind of started problems, even kodi16.3 but same time I did force stop kodi before turn of tv with native remote, but didn't help. Is any possibility when doing force stop and later app get active by self?! (didn't done with titanium freeze option, then app would definitely stay disabled). Didn't had a chance to check those combination, will try on days to make sure, coz in kodi settings there is something said about sleep option etc maybe there is bug
Finally
Kodi or OS, but not explained why I didn't saw earlier like I see now at least 1-2 in 24 hours which gives me think not only about 2.1. Coz its not to hard for me not see tv is in my bedroom

Looks like problem was and is in kodi. Install kodi 16.4 and problem still there. BUT WHEN I FREEZE KODI IN TITANIUM BACK UP BEFORE PUT SLEEP THEN SHIELD STAYS SLEEP ( tested this all bit less in 24 hours and didn't had a problem with random woke ups during hours )
