Curiosity. Phone memory? - Epic 4G General

I'm just curious to know how much of your phone's memory do you use so I can see if I'm good or I can use even less than what I do use lol
I'm using 160mb/ 493mb
It seems good but I wanna know if I can go lower lol
I'm running thunderhawk 3.3. With the minamalistic black theme and I deleted some files out of the system like ringtones and things I never use

Wow I didn't think mtd helped that much with memory
But I've tried cm7 and honestly didn't like it much its the little bugs that bothered me honestly but I deffinately will be going with another mtd rom like thunderhawk when it turns mtd
How come I don't ever see anything about miui like cm7..? Ppl is it really that bad?

Most of the bugs have been worked out since moving to mtd and miui wasn't as big because more people like cyanogenmod as apposed to miui I guess. But there's nothing wrong with my cm7 anyways the new nightly *9* and the samurai kernel bushido8 works seemlessly for me you might want to give it a try there is also cleangb on mtd.
Sent From My Cyan Samurai

Tried CM7 for the third time and still not a fan. MIUI does not have 4G yet but they are working on it. I prefer converting your favorite ROM to MTD like I did with Legendary 2.1 and gaining 150MB of storage and the added stability.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App

Ok now I have just onee question
If I switched to cm7 and didn't like it could I normally flash cleangb without having to odin back to stock? Cuz I'm not around a computer much and would hate to be stuck with it until I get to a computer
I've tried cm7 b4 it had 4g and 4g was one of the biggest problems I didn't like it
But I think I will try it now
And u say samurai kernel would b the best to go with it? Not shadow..?

But if I converted it to mtd and flashed it would I have to wipe everything?
If I do have to wipe everything then would I at least b able to restore data?
And if I can't restore data then is there at least a way to sync or save my txts lol?? That's like the most important thing lol

You can flash anyother MTD ROM from CM7. I switch back and forth to nandroids of CM7 and MTD converted Legendary. So you can flash CleanGB MTD version and I would recommend a factory data reset before the flash since data won't work anyway.

That memory already exists on your phone. But the current Samsung layout has most of it dedicated to Cache. It seems that converting this partition to data storage thus far has no ill-effects. The only thing known to be affected thus far would be an OTA update, as that extra large cache space was needed to download and prep the update.zip file.
ThunderHawk 3.4 will be MTD when I learn a little more about the MTD process and how it works. One issue I've read is that, after converting to MTD and flashing several roms, the MTD will corrupt and you'll have to restart the process from the beginning.

I have been loving my manually converted mtd thunderhawk 3.3 setup with shadow mtd-tw-v02. I gained 191mb of extra storage, and was able to check cm7 for an hour or two and restore my thawk mtd nandroid without issue. Just make sure you know what minor differences you may run across before making the jump. Glad to hear 3.4 will probably be mtd! We have some awesome devs for this device.

Question: EXT4 on Stock(Rooted) Rom

Are there any roms out there that are completely stock(Rooted) that support EXT4? Also are there any custom OC'd Kernels yet for stock 2.2.1. (Rooted).
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
No. Only a handful of CUSTOM roms support ext4. Try one of those. They're all very nice. And be sure to follow all of the directions to the letter or you could end up having to start over from scratch.

try mammon_bonsai4all, it has the (updated) stock launcher and it also supports ext4 and RFS (so even if you dont have ext4, you can still flash the rom)
Please post questions in General section.
You can use any DK28 rom with ext4 as long as you flash an ext4 compatible kernel immediately after flashing the rom and before you reboot. You may lose clockwork 2.5.1.2 if the rom you use doesn't include it, but you can manually put it back.

Question

I flashed nebula rom (rfs) a couple days ago and I am wondering exactly how to get ext4 from here (I still have old clockwork.

No once you flash the new cwm and flash the rom it.converts you to ext4. You dont need to do anything else. Just make sure.the rom you flash is usimg.edify.scripts cause.the.new cwm wont flash amend scripts.

Go to my nebula rom thread. Click on the instructions for EXT4. Do not flash CW3 as nebula doesn't support the edify scripts yet. Do what the instructions say.

just like darktremor but easier and can be used on any and every rom

Look for the ROM thread that has the most number of pages, or look in the Q&A sections.
By the way this question should be posted in the Q&A section, and you should read the forum posting rules.

Second that! Oh and yeah bad place to put this. Actually this question get's asked a lot, yet there is no definitive answer it seems?... I believe it is all about personal preference. MIUI seems to have a great balance of everything I could want in a phone and super user friendly customization. I searched a month for a rom... Tried most 2.3.x and while they all offer something and are greatly appreciated... I just so happen to like MIUI the best. Goodluck!
Cm7 is what many people go for, but if you google the things you can do in MIUI, then you will see it offers the most features. The non stock version that nickminn updates every friday seems to be better than any other 2.3.5 rom I have seen otherwise.. but they all have bugs, reduced battery life versus 2.2.x, and barely or non working gps.
The bugs I still had when I stopped using it a few weeks ago: media button on headphones doesn't work, if listening to music when you get a call and you answer, the music will continue to play, you have to restart it after charging(at least after long charges) or it will not go into deep sleep, and occasional sd card issues(my music player would too often not be able to find the music).. the plus side is all of the features: the notification bar being customizable and shortcuts to each toggle, the ability to theme EACH part of the UI individually, the built in backup/restore, the battery tracking, the device data usage app, the multi touch drag/drop and tons more.
Also I was getting 16-20 hours under heavy/moderate use which is the best I have seen on any ginger rom including cm7.. on ANY 2.3.5 rom you need to use cpu spy to make sure it goes into deep sleep to have good battery.
Hope this helps.. there is a large trade off using any gingerbread rom until we get the source code-- I went back to 2.2.1 because EVERYTHING works, and I simply can't kill it in 24 hours unless I TRY.. I get 24-48 hours per charge. I miss the features of MIUI, but not enough for the costs-- most of the differences between 2.2 and 2.3 is mostly cosmetic in the end.
I think he means 2.2 roms that look like GB. In that case, try Bionix 1.3.1. It should be easy to find.

Can't boot MTD ROMS [SOLVED!!!!!]

Ok so recently I odined back to el30 (as I do at least once a week) and now I can not flash any mtd roms... I have tried redownloading and reflashing the recovery and rom(s) multiple times... cm9 as an example, I flash and it reboots to do the mtd conversion, goes back into cwm and boots... it gets to the boot animation (on aosp roms, tw mtd reboots right after the kernel splash screen) goes through it (sometimes makes it through) and then reboots... after flashing and it won't boot I have to pull battery and that's when the next problem begins... phone will not power on, charge, go into cwm... nothing.... I can get to download by using the slide battery in and out trick... its not the battery, after an odin it charges and boots perfectly (until I try to flash another mtd rom)... not bad downloads... I always check md5 before flashing... anybody have any insight as to what may be going on...
Edit- if you're not going to post something useful to try and help, don't post at all... so don't post stupid things like ... shouldn't be odining once a week". Comments like that don't help and are way off base... I know people that odin 2 times as much as me and have been flashing twice as long so please keep the dimwitted comments to yourself!

I know that's true.... but can it just start being picky out of nowhere... I have ran cm9, miui4, well let's just say every mtd rom this phone has available... odined last week and now no mtd roms will boot... about to odin an e4gt rom and brick my phone and tell sprint it happened when it was updating to whatever the newest stock rom is... I'M AT A LOSS!

You tried Odin with repartition, the odin cwm 5.027 with reboot unchecked, pop battery out and in and then flashing CleanGB MTD?
You also said after trying the TW install it bricks requiring battery cpr. You could bring it right to Sprint at that point since nothing works then. Unless it only takes 1 in and out to get it into download mode.|

Its usually only one in and out... and yes I have tried odin multiple times and then tried EVERY MTD rom... I did get clean gb to boot once after this started happening... and then later that day shut my phone off and it wouldn't turn back on... now not even clean gb will make it past the splash screen... usually just rebooting the splash screen over and over... sometimes making it to the boot ani and then shutting completely down with the only way to fix being odin with the battery "cpr"... this phone is going through a wall super soon! I would ask if any devs would want it when I upgrade (probably next week) but I don't know how useful it will be without working mtd partition...

Probably shouldn't be using odin once a week. You definitely fudged something up.

Nah it isn't that, I know that for a fact... my brother has to odin ALL THE TIME and doesn't have this problem... when I say all the time I mean like once a day... its not that... thanks for the, um, insightful information though...

Yeah used to odin regularly to keep it clean, usually fixes more than destroys. I don't see why mtd won't boot for you. You might have a bad partition table. Your phone must not like mtd. I knew somebody with the same problem, they ended up taking it into sprint and they gave him a new phone.

this would make sense... but I have had multiple mtd roms already... could the partition go bad out of nowhere? And if so how would I go about having sprint replace it... stock bml works fine...

Did you use the victory_8G_100528.pit file and check repartition? It seems like it isn't properly restoring your boot partition when you odin, if you didn't use a .pit file that could be why. There was also a totally bulletproof upgrade program that samsung posted on it's website a quite a while ago to upgrade to Froyo, it should still be floating around xda somewhere. If nothing else works try that.
