Oh wow this is awesome. If the UK gets it, then I'm sure the Netherlands will get it around the same time as well. I wonder if the Keyboard Dock still works with it though :O.

Good to know.

The dock works with the few ICS AOSP roms out there, so i'm pretty sure it will work

good news
now i know
i want to use ics

Great news...now I can have ICS on my transformer as well as my nexus.

Why wouldn't the keyboard dock work with an official ICS build??? I don't know what the basis for this question is even..? I assume the only reason early ported versions don't have dock support are simply because they are ported from xoom or aspire or other tabs that don't have docks to support..?

[INFO] Asus working on 3.1

Asus just posted on their U.S. facebook that they are currently working on getting an OTA update to 3.1!
I am really excited to be able to hook up my 360 controller. Emulations gonna be amazing.
Sent from my Droid using XDA App
wait, whats this about the 360 controller?
im new to android, so im learning as i go
HC 3.1 will enable USB host for the first time and will allow for controllers to be plugged in to the devices. At the Google IO conference they had a 360 controller running their presentation on a Xoom.

In 3.1 it is promised to support variety of USB devices, including even Xbox360 wired controller (demonstrated during Google IO 2011).
This is great news! I'm loving the support Asus is giving this tablet!

Hi all,
We know you’re anxious about our Android 3.1 update. We’ve heard from our PM team that ASUS has already received the Android 3.1 code from Google and work has started on the update.
We will provide Firmware Over-the-Air (FOTA) updates for all ASUS Eee Pad tablet devices on a market by market basis. This online firmware update will include Android 3.1.
Watch this page for more updates, no pun intended.

I've always had great experience with Asus on the pc hardware side of things. I'm glad to see they're keeping up their standards with Android.
Just a wild question, but would HC 3.1 support USB Speakers too ?
lol just had a thought it wont take long to roll the update out since so few people actually have the tablet...

I would assume he was talking about not having to do a prolonged, staged rollout once the update is ready. Not development time.

prolonged staged rollout is pretty much because of SKU's, not cause of amount of tablets.

Hmmm hopefully we can use this as a benchmark on how long it will take for us to get updates. Obviously the Xoom got it first because that is the device google builds on but with the lack on skin on the Transformer this really will tell us how they will be.

I thought that Asus did some light skinning, a few buttons and added a few apps.
It looks like Samsung did a whole lot more work.

Soon to be owner

Hello Everybody, I am new to this forum, but not XDA. I am soon to be buying a Eee Pad Transformer, but there is one major setback. I love my brother's xoom. It's amazing, fast, smooth, and all functions work. The one thing I've seen is how the Transformer doesn't look like the Xoom (so I'm led to believe it's dotted with ASUS's own software, while still running Honeycomb). Is there an easy fix for this? I've looked at the custom roms and can't find one that looks to be almost exactly like the Xoom. But I am a N3wb when it comes to Tablets, so I would really like some details on what to expect, from several people on performance, and preferably pro's and con's.
Thanks IA

All Honeycomb tablets at this time (with the exception of Galaxy Tab 10.1) are running stock Honeycomb. Some tablets may add apps of their own but it is not really bloatware.
If you're talking about the buttons on the bottom left there is a easy fix for that. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1120014&highlight=Xoom

Umm.. you could flash a kernel and ROM afterwards?
Development is very limited as Honeycomb is closed-source.
Out of the box experience is amazing on Honeycomb though.

Just FYI, I had a Xoom before I got my Transformer. I am _much_ happier with my Transformer, both in terms of the screen (a huge improvement) and how Asus is supporting the device. Of course, the keyboard dock is a huge plus that nobody else can match...
Not knocking the Xoom, but rather to say that you won't likely regret your decision between them.

I was pissed when i heard this cuz i just but the Asus Transformer 3weeks ago and now i hear about this.. This Nexus Tablet batter make it toss my Asus Transformer out the window.. Cuz i dont see no improvement hardware wise with the galaxy nexus vs galaxy s2
if you want one now, the xoom is basically an nexus tablet. well just have wait an see, for an few months.
If Nexus Tab:Nexus Phone::Galaxy Tab:Galaxy Phone, I'll stick with Galaxy phones and tabs for superior hardware, since Touchwiz is becoming driver support rather than ui.

Ya I do want one now! I have trying to hold out for the Transformer 2, but I have almost went and grabbed something else on a couple occasions now. ;-) Normally I am fairly patient though, so I can wait if I think I'm getting a better product. I have looked at the xoom a couple times. Something rubs me wrong with it though. Maybe the whole Motorola and locked boot loader fiasco. I am not sure this applies to the xoom however and maybe just their phones. I keep getting the feeling of some hidden hoopla I'm going to run across.

It's been hard for me not to just grab a samsung tab and be done with it! I have enjoyed my epic and the hardware has been outstanding! I guess there are two things keeping me from doing that
.
1) The tegra 3 quad core in the prime. (hardware)
2) Just wanting something a lil different from my phone I guess.
The main things that are important to me is hardware, and developer support. The Epic would just not be the same without either of those! So, I want that in a tablet as well.
I also will need to get a windows 8 tablet due to my job so I wanted to keep the price down on the android tablet. However that Transformer Primes hardware and promises of ICS soon is making that tough! ;-)
Well, from doing some more digging with google it looks like their tablet is still 6 months away.
However, I am in the market for a tablet before then. Looks like google won't be getting my money this time around!
Hopefully they will release details on specs at CES in January as I am curious what's in it.

It's odd, because it has the same price as the other high end tablet and it was the most popular as i said i considered it a NEXUS tablet, and it will probably not be the second one to receive ICS either, that will be the asus transformer
It's crap because not only wa the xoom branded as a GED ...
... not only did the Android team happily blog that ICS compiles for Xoom right out the gate with no tweaks ...
... not only did team EOS get leaked Chinese drivers to make everything work ...
... Motorola _still_ couldn't be bothered to get the update out in time.
Seriously they lined themselves up to have almost zero work on this port ... and they still blew it.
i also bought the xoom thinking it would be treated differently as it was the first "google tab" i have yet to see any special favoritism towards this device.

and not even a date...
test..................
What a shocker Motorola borked an update, I guess they are too busy putting out 3 new phones and tablets every week to be bothered to do updates if google doesn't fix them they are done
I paid more for this thing when other tablets were out just so I didn't have to wait for updates...... Guess I was wrong
For the record the "test" wifi users signed up for last week still has not been released
Or maybe they don't want to look like dicks because Google bought them. Maybe Google want everyone to see that Motorola isn't its bff..... or its just the same old Motorola doing what they do best...nothing. you know what will put a cherry on top? Locking the boot loader.
From the sound of things for the soak test Wifi users were signing up for, Google is in control of the update, which makes sense, since it is a GED after all. It may not be Motorola's choice/decision.

Asus has some coherence problems with information management. XDA has coherent whine.

From twitter this time: https://twitter.com/#!/ASUS/status/164522714994974721
Hopefully they have made up their mind this time. Someone start the two-week countdown
Asus seems to have a problem deciding on when to release the real release-date and for how long it should continue to release prank-dates. The real release of the real release-date for the real release of ICS may or may not be right around the courner.
In the meantime, we could replace most of the world's nuclear powerstations with the whine contained in this very XDA thread. The power of both should more or less even out.
Good times.
Thanks for the update. I was waiting for an updated official source.
Too bad they can't just name a date. End all speculation. 'Mid february' is close but I want it less vague

I'm using a GNex since its release and I can tell you this: you'll be stunned. Not so much from the interface (which is very close to HC) but from the overall smoothness. I eagerly wanna try paulburtons ICS port, but I gave my TF away to a friend for 2 weeks
Yeah, I have ICS on my Nexus S, and I'm super excited to get it on my TF101. Most of the basic interface ideas come from Honeycomb, but very refined and improved. And yes, much better speed.

I just hope the TF101 ICS upgrade does not have all of the issues that the TF201 upgrade. Don't mean to be a Debbie Downer or anything. I just ordered my TF101 from Amazon last night after struggling with the 101 versus 201 decision. In the end it came down to the issue of the Wifi possible not working.
