Welcome abroad HD2 owners, the king has retired GNote is the new king.

also coming from an HD2. My note is coming today in the mail!!
Hope it's as great as everyone says!

Ill time in being an x hd2 owner as u can see from my signature
Sent from the HD2's closest replacement, the Samsung Galaxy Note

note is awesome. Basically just like my aunt's samsung galaxy tab, but smaller, and smoother.
Almost too nice to be a phone. Android runs much smoother on the note, then on my HD2. But I do notice the blue hue when scrolling thru internet/photos and stuff. Nothing to return the phone over. And I have NO DEAD PIXELS, which is awesome.

I was a a commited HTC fan and almost bought the HTC Sensation XE but saw the Note previews and bought it because of the screen size, specs and stylus.
I couldn't see anything I wanted more than the HD2 for a long time.
Very happy with the Note.

The Galaxy SIII could also be a worthy replacement for the HD2, but for me, no stylus and a smaller screen.

Yeah, same here. Imo, even the samsung s2 wasn't a true upgrade to the HD2. But this beast definitely is, with the huge screen.
And there probably won't be another phone with these specs for awhile. Too niche of a market imo.

From HTC advantage, HTC HD2, now Note, a little laggy, slower than Mango OS for now. Waiting for ICS to fix the banding on phone and slowness. Oh, and I love the thin light, huge screen of it.

Any previous nexus owners?

Anyone have both or been on both and care to share experiences?
Thanks

My mum has a nexus and I've had a chance to play around with it quite a lot. It's a fantastic phone. Ics is buttery smooth and visually appealing in its aosp form. I've always been a fan of the stock android os. But at the end of the day, as great as The nexus is, it's just a phone.
The note is something unique and special. There's nothing else like it. The screen size is perfect. Once you go to a screen this size, you'll never go back. The only minor letdown for me is the touchwiz interface, but let's be honest, its easily changed. Its also the best manufacturer overlay in my opinion. HTC sense and the LG and Sony offerings are dire. Touchwiz is useable and attractive at least.
The nexus is a great phone, but the note is the one for me. It has drastically cut down on my laptop time. I use it for everything. Its also comfortable as an ereader.

At some point I had both the Nexus and the Note, but I didn't want two devices so I had to decide which one to sell.
I ended up keeping the Note. I loved the Nexus, don't get me wrong, but overall the Note had it's advantages.
The nexus is slick looking and easy to carry, ICS flies on the thing- no lags. A lot have whined about the camera, but personally I found it acceptable.
It wasn't easy to choose but after considering that the Note will also have ICS, I chose the Note.
I had the Nexus One (thought I know you're not referring to that one), then upgraded to the G Nexus as soon as it was available. I had considered the Note then, but chose the G Nexus because:
- Developer support and Google support for G Nexus
- I thought the Note was too big
- G Nexus had ICS
- G Nexus didn't have SAMSUNG logo on the front and it looked so cool being all black, and not the mention the sexy curve (hence my name for it was "Sexy Nexy").
So, after getting the G Nexus, I loved it! THe screen was so beautiful - my first experience of a super amoled screen, and I was blown away by how black the black was. And the size - super for reading.
I became addicted to big screens.
Then I started thinking... wouldn't it be EVEN BETTER with an even bigger screen, like the 5.3" on the Note?? I couldn't stop thinking about it. Eventually, I gave in, and sold the G Nexus and bought the Note. These were the reasons:
- Addicted to big screens, and was convinced the Note was not going to be too big (I was sooo right )
- Camera on Note is quite a bit better, IMO. I don't need 'zero shutter lag' that the G Nexus has, esp if it compromises on quality.
- I was already feeling the pinch on storage space on the Nexus, esp with all the Nandroid backups which were as big as 1Gb each! I just bought a 32Gb micro sd card for my Note, and I feel so much freer now!
- Some apps didn't work on ICS. Also I figured that GB wasn't that bad. Heck, I had lived with it and loved it on my N1 for how long? In any case, ICS should be here pretty darn soon, and by that hopefully all the apps I use will support it.
- I actually like having the row of fixed capacitative buttons and hard button on the Note. It is positioned right at the bottom of the phone, so actually, if you compare with the Nexus, it doens't take up any additional space (cos in the Nexus, there's just blank wasted space there). The great thing about having the buttons there is that your 'real' screen does not need to get wasted with the software buttons when ICS comes along - ie., you're getting even more screen real estate than you think!
- Better hardware on the NOte - processor and GPU. I also read and watched youtube reviews that seemed to indicate that the Note was quite a lot faster, and that the battery life is much better. (I can confirm both to be very true! - and see the youtube vid of someone with alpha CM9 on the Note, commenting that ICS feels even faster on the Note than on his Nexus!)
- I still think the Nexus is better-looking, but how far is looks going to get you? Also, I can live with the Samsung logo on the screen
- As for developer support, it was becoming clear to me that the Note was becoming very popular, and was getting a lot of developer support too. So far, it's definitely looking very true.
- Lastly, again - the screen size is so fantastic! I no longer use my tablet (ipad), even when I have both at my disposal. It's just so much easier to use the Note esp when lying down on the couch and reading from it.
If the above helps you, please press the 'THANK' button, thanks!!
I got a Note yesterday. I agree with all of the above. Nexus will be being sold very shortly. All other screens now look too small. Also, the signal seems better on the Note.
So far, only 2 things I don't like on the Note: (1) Gingerbread, but that will be upgraded soon and (2) Touchwiz, but when modded ICS ROMs come out, I'll start using them instead. Oh, and I'm not sure how I'm going to jog with my Note - it won;t fit in the pockets on my skins!
I have Ics on my a500 and love it and know its only a matter of time before the note has it so n biggie there. I also owned q streak when they were out so i lived the 5" screen ans have been craving it ever since . My infuse is nice but i want a unique phone like the note again.
Thanks for sharing guys, good stuff

I had a Galaxy S1 and allways said that my next phone will be a Nexus phone.. >PERIOD<
There I go, 2 weeks ago got all excited and went to the electronic store to buy me the GNexus.. Yeah!
Wallked to the phone section and there it was, the awsome nexus, just waiting on me.. i picked it up. .. Had it in my hand, played with it and then i looked to the left.. Right next to the GNexus was the GNote.. I though.. Hmmmmmmmmmm. ..
After a few sec. Thinking and comparing both on the fly, I decided to go for the note, it fits excacly my needs and so far i dont regret it..
Sammy got me again... Dammn.. ;-) before i got the sgs i actually wanted the N900..
So get what you like, its just for the time being and only a phone..

I had both, kept the Note. Both are good phones. Video & battery life is better on the Note and the lack of expandable storage really on the Nexus tipped it.

Galaxy Note X Galaxy SIII

Now I think it's a very hard decision for Note users to change to new SIII! I may consider the huge & continuing market share assigned for Note will badly affect sales of the new SIII device! Just a comment ;-)
I do like SIII, but I love my Note!

Definitely not giving up the Note for the S3. Why lose half an inch of display for a couple extra cores that won't be fully utilised yet?
Yea... I believe the Note is still picking up momentum. Im definitely going to hold on to it for a whole longer. Having more fun with the international version than I ever did with the ATT model.

Saw s3 this morning at three shop (had to ask as they cant display) the s3 is Amazing but the note is better
The display on the s3 is amazing and there isnt much different between the note and the s3 but the note has a pen thats the seller for me
The back on the s3 also is very flimsy
My advice if u have the note dont bother
If u havent got the note get the s3

I think the only way to consider SIII for me is when I get the yet expected new Note 10.1 ;-)
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I will consider S3 only when XDA Dves give up on ICS bug, which it wont happened, so..
I love my Galaxy Note, I love it to bits
I ordered an S3 and looked at the forum in xda.
The thing that was swaying me was the sound....the better dac...the wonderful Blu ray that works better for sound....
But I agonised daily about giving up my lovely note.
In the end I cancelled the S3 because the Note is better in some ways and it won't be that long till the Note 2, (probably a better version of the S3), comes along.
In many ways the Note is a better version of the S2 now.So presumably the note 2 will better the S3.
Funny thing about the S3 is that you can buy a pen for it LOL
And a big chunky pen it is too
I kinda thought if the s3 had allready been released and the Note was just being released, I think I would have wanted the note
So for me I stick with the Note for now.
Guess IM lucky got an s3 coming for work so can play around but for me the note wins as my personal choice

I believe Samsung knows this very well but they will count on the long term sales of the GSIII. They are professionals in sucking my budgets anyway!

I'd rather wait to Note2
About me i don't like s3 at all infact it's not even fair to compare between them. Galaxy s3 is new version from galaxy nexus they increase the rubbish battery which is in nexus with one bigger.. and putting micro sd which isn't available in G nexus that's all. Stucking with note until new note...

I had the sii and loved t the note b but as my contract was e ending the siii came a along. I managed to see it yesterday and loved it but not more than the note. I have now b bought the note I am a so happy that I did.
Still getting used t to it but its incredible.
I preordered the S3 about a month ago and was patiently waiting for it.
Then I had a play with my friend's Note and realised the main reason I use my phone now is as a media/Internet/texting device and only occasionally as a real phone.
So the size of the display won it over for me and I've cancelled my S3 order.
No regrets and I doubt I'll be bothered at all when the S3 comes out next week.
Having been an iphone man for years now and having test drove the HTC Desire & Sensation before returning both of them, I've finally found an Android device which I can honestly say beats the pants off the iphone.

The successor the Note would be a more accurate and worthy upgrade imo, but even then I will probably wait for the 3rd generation Note as I'm pretty satisfied with my Note at the moment.
Is the Samsung Premium Suite on ICS making the Note Pen really useful/amazing? This would help me decide between Note/S3.
Ill use this thread instead of making a new one, even if it is slightly offtopic:
I have a galaxy nexus at the moment and love many things about it, but the lack of a microSD slot is a shame.
So i wanted to get a SIII next week, which i consider as a nexus with two more cores, a sd slot, a bigger battery, and, the only downside for me, touchwizz.
Today i was able to play around with a note and i instantly fell in love with the big screen. Now i have some questions to you to eliminate any surprises when switching to it from a nexus:
1. Which would you consider as the best rom at the moment? The nearer to a clean ICS rom the better.
2. Is ICS officially released for the note?
3. Is there a bugfree version of the aokp rom?
I know that my questions are allready answered in this forum, but i did a search and went through many threads without any clear answer. Thank you very much

The GS3 will have a "C-Pen", will come as an accesory at some point.
The S3 is definitely a better package than the note. I had the note back in February for about a month and I loved it! And I know that people who who got used to the note screen have a hard time going back to a smaller screen. That is the note pros and cons, the screen. Pros cause it is a beautiful big ass screen that lets you do pretty much anything, awesome to watch vids on it, S-pen is fantastic in my opinion. The con isn't that it's just too big, the con is that once you use the note for a while you can't go back to a smaller screen, for real. After I sold my note ( I kinda regret it a Lil but what the hell) I had the Galaxy nexus and when I received it I thought it was a nexus S with a 4inch screen cause I thought the screen was so tiny. It's crazy! But anyway back to the topic, I think if somebody were to buy a phone today, definitely go with the Galaxy S3. More powerful,4.8 inch isn't that bad, has a Cpen, more features ect... But for those who own the note, gotta wait for the note 2 as it will definitely be quad core plus other features that will take advantage of its massive beautiful screen.
im considering swapping over.
for all those saying the extra 2 cores wont be used... google already announced a while back that the ICS browser supports the full use of quad cores... plus, nvidia have been out in the market earlier with their tegra3 in the transformer prime, so nvidia have sponsored some devs to get them to make their games more quad core friendly. so right now, if going quad, it makes more sense to go nvidia since they have the dev support, or run chainfire3d and leech off the support nvidia is giving its devs.
and also, sure, the s3 may have the same GPU. but its heavily overclocked compared to the mali400 in our notes. i dunno about you, but im tired of games stuttering on my note. my PC plays everything at max detail at 100fps plus, so dropping down to the note where everything runs at 15-35fps is annoying as hell. you guys try playing a rhythm game where it stutters, it completely throws off your rhythm and hurts the playability of the game. heck, mass effect infiltrator is frustratingly stuttery. i seriously hope ICS will fix this for me when it becomes available OTA.
the inductive charging feature of the s3, plus the wifi tv link accessory would be quite useful for me as it would make things less messy.
but i couldnt care less about the software additions that samsung have made. they seem more like novelties that i wont really use much.
although, i'll probably end up waiting till later this year to see if tegra3+ is any good (think tegra3 but on 28nm and oc'd with LTE) and LG's quad core krait + adreno 320 should prove interesting in its LS970.

Note or SIII

Im do for an upgrade and have been wanting the note for sometime now and was going to get it this weekend because of its large screen and my interest of reading on my phone but I just read the article in laptop mag about the SIII and now im split between the two.
Right now I'm using tmobiles s2 and i outgrew this screen already, how long b4 i outgrow the sIII.
IM running official ics now and i know both will come with it so that's not a factor
Question is should i suck it up with the extra half an inch diff and go for the iphone killer, or buy the note?
I really need some opinions. Thanks

This was a tough decision for me as well, but I ultimately went with the S3 over the Note because:
The Note was released in November of 2011 (February 2012 in the U.S.) and is now "old". It's basically a Galaxy S2 with a bigger screen and a stylus.
The Note 2 is due out in only a few more months (October if the rumors are correct), and will have SGS3 guts with a possibly even larger display than 5.3" (and smaller bezels hopefully). It'll also share the SGS3's design whether or not you like/hate it.
The S3 has a 4.8" 720p screen which is still very large, coming the closest to the Note's 5.3" (though not 1280x800).
I couldn't upgrade until May anyway; it was just one more month to wait for the S3.
The Note's display exhibits a black crush problem where there's a huge jump in contrast between black and the next darkest greys.
The international Note gets way more developer love than the U.S. variant, but that won't be the case with the insanely popular and very similar S3s.
My next decision is whether or not to trade up my S3 up for an international Note 2 in October. The next Nexus' in November should also be nice, but not as enticing in my eyes.
I decided to exchange my Note for the Galaxy S III. Some of my reasons were personal preferences so they may or may not apply:
1) I felt the screen on the Galaxy note was ever so slightly too big. When I was in the store that was my initial impression. I hoped I would warm up to it a bit better. I did, but it still wished it were slightly smaller. I wanted something in between the Skyrocket and the Note, and the S3 is right there.
2) I was not impressed with the S-Pen. I found it to be inaccurate most of the time. There was no way to calibrate it and it was often inconsistent. Maybe there was a problem with my unit, but I think I just expected too much out of the pen-based input. Even if it did work better, the only time I used it was playing Draw Something. I'm not the artsy type, so I never used it for drawings or taking notes. There were very few applications built in that took advantage of the S-Pen or even the large screen size. Perhaps there will be when Samsung finally releases the Premium Suite, but at this time they still haven't and there's no telling when that or the ICS update will finally arrive.
3) The internals. Qualcomm S4 is better than S3. Adreno 225 is better than Adreno 220. 2GB of RAM is better than 1GB. Since I was going to be stuck with it for the next two years, I wanted the best hardware I could get.
4) Random extra features, such as the better camera, gesture controls, S voice, etc. While they were not dealbrakers they were certainly intriguing.
5) Better updates (hopefully). Since there is much more uniformity among the S3 models in the US they should be updated quicker without as long of a wait from the carriers. This of course remains to be seen.
The Note was definitely the best choice for me when I first got it. I had no desire for the One X without external storage and a removable battery. However I was never expecting the Galaxy S3 to come out as soon as it did! I'm glad that I was able to exchange it within 90 days. Costco is awesome.
Thanks for the info. I'll be getting the SIII. Hopefully it comes out on my birthday 28th. That would be a nice treat to my self.

How is the picture quality on the S III compared to the Note? I heard or read somewhere that the picture quality on the S III isn't as good because of the zero shutter lag.

I think the SGS3 is better, if you really want the note just wait for the note 2
The note isn't pocketable and the build quality is way cheaper. My opinion. It has a cool built in pen though.
I got the note when I switched to at&t last month. I loved it at first but after a week I decided it was just too big. I didn't find the S-pen very useful and I had to contort my body in weird ways just to get it out of my pocket.
It's really a phone you won't know about until you try it at least for a few days. I knew I had 30 days to exchange it, so I preordered the galaxy s3 and couldn't be happier.
I never had any problems with pocketing my Note, but the S4 and 2GB of RAM made up my mind pretty quickly. I will probably wind up with the Note 2 when it comes out.

I brought my Note just a day or so after the S3 was announced. The Note was cheaper and the S-Pen and larger screen are what I wanted more than a quad-core processor, which is quite unnecessary for my usage.
Good luck Joe.
The GS3 is a nice device. Awesome, actually, and there is no denying it is more popular with the general public.
My Note is my niche and my next leap is Note-2 which will be rocking a serious set of upgrades.
Only thing capable of seducing me into leaving my Galaxy Note is the Galaxy Note 2

Hope you won't regret it after 2 weeks like i did...had to buy myself another Note. Couldn't stand smaller screen. The S3 is amazing though...
When the S3 was first released I said to myself "not this time Beards. Yes you bought the original S followed by the S2 but when you bought the Note you clearly told yourself you did not need the S3".
All was well until I started receiving blogs in my Inbox..... Then came the TV ads followed by more Online hype.
I was slowly being drawn in.
That was a couple of weeks back.....
Yes, I do miss the larger screen and yes I do miss the Pen but the S3 gives back a lot more in other areas where the Note simply has not got.
I love being able to launch the camera either by pressing and holding the Samsung Lockscreen and twisting it 90 degrees to launch the camera. Or without touching the S3 by simply saying to the S3 "Wake up Galaxy", followed by "Launch Camera" then finally saying "Shoot", or "Capture", or "Cheese".... CLICK. Shot of myself and my Brother taken.
Then there's being able to carry out a screen shot simply by waving the edge of my up righted palm across the screen.
Or how about whilst browsing through my collection of photo's in the much better Gallery App I notice the shots taken have Names shown and by simply taping on that name I can email the photo directly to them from the Gallery App.
There's a lot more but going back to the Lockscreen where I started this reply I really like how Samsung have made it in keeping with WidgetLocker. Granted it's not as good but then again WidgetLocker can't show me a News Ticker scrolling at the base of the screen.
There's loads more reasons... so let me leave it with the Notification Tools at the top now has a scrolling list of items you can either select or un-select.
B.T.W...... I am fortunate.... I still have my Note but it doesn't get the full attention any longer.

I've been really really REALLY tempted to buy the S3 lately. I am getting it for $400 new unlocked. But as much as I am trying to like it over my note, I am unable to do so. Screen is the second biggest factor actually for me. First is everything you mentioned. All these features are really great but stock based. I would most definitely be installing AOSP if I were to buy the S3 so all those features would be gone. And then it would just be a Note with smaller screen and two additional processors in a different casing, wouldn't it?
And the pen.. I was so skeptical of getting the note, now I just can't leave it unless I get the note II..

You can make also screen shots that way on the Note.

I totally agree with you, The S3 is an amazing piece of kit, no arguing there, But for me, it isnt a patch on my note.
I believe the note2 will have all the s3 features and more, then all the s3 fanboys will be complaining and wanting to come back to the note lol

Consolidating my 2 devices with a Note 2

Hi all, I was all set on getting the Nexus 4 to replace my Gnex but in a way I was a tad disappointed. I wanted a better camera, more battery life and storage, however, the camera seems only a little better, the battery life is similar and the storage is the same.
I had my trigger finger over the buy button but I could not buy one.
I also have a Nexus 7 but really I didn't use it to its potential.
So I'm buying a Note 2, and a 64 Gb SD Card.
OK its not Vanilla Android, which I love, but I assume you'll be able to use a ROM or theme to make TW on here look like the Vanilla Android system?
Anyway, it ticks a lot of boxes. Big enough to use as a casual tablet device, anywhere and everywhere. Excellent battery life, the same camera as SGS3 (which is reportedly better than N4), excellent DAC for music listening, great, and huge screen.
Is there anyone else who has consolidated their devices this way, and are you enjoying your Notes?
My brother did, he sold his Galaxy S3 and Nexus 7 and is loving the Galaxy Note 2.
I sold my HTC One X and bought the device for an extra cash. It's worth every penny, the battery life is top notch, I never worry about my battery life throughout the day!
We both also bought the 64GB Micro SD Card from Sandisk and using the internal2sdcard mod in the application forum. So technically my phone is a 64gb with 12gb sd card haha!
Sold my GNEX and Nexus 7 and got the Note II (international). It's a great convergence device.
I plan on replacing both my DX2 and my Xoom with the Note 2. I don't really use the tablet much as it is, so I'm selling it to offset the cost of the 64gb card and an SGP Valentinus case.
I have a GS3 and a Nexus7, but wanted to have an 'all in one device'. Some like to have both, I personally like to have just one device that can do it all..the Note 2 I purchased does the trick for me...LOVE IT...:good:
I sold my htc sensation xe & note 1 in order to get note 2..never regret..i always do research & make sure the device im going to get is far better than the one i own.. i also not really do like to keep a smartphone as a collection since smartphone is an electronic item & electronic item life span is short especially when u keep it not using it for a long time can cause damage..learn from experience

Looks like I wont regret doing the swap.
Some times I think I might miss vanilla android, but I suppose like my old S2 there will be themes to make it look better (whether baked into a ROM or otherwise)?
I came from the HOX and SGT 8.9 to the Note 2. I'm happy(ish) with the Note but it's size is something I'm happy with at home but wish it was slightly smaller when I'm out and about.
Personally I think the HTC DNA might be the perfect device but then there's the non-removable battery...for all these devices improve, there's still not a perfect one out there.
For now, I've made my choice; I'm fed up with the expense of changing phones so I'm gonna keep this one for a while. At least until next year.
Oh, and the stylus. That's just weird.

I have a S3 and Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700.
I bought the Note 2 to replace the S3, but now I feel like the TF700 is worthless too!! This phone is just that good!

The Note 2 has what the DNA doesn't, except the smaller size. But, it's so lovable that most people will probably get used to the size.
The stylus is one of the major features of this phone. It strengthens the tablet part about phone and tablet. I use the stylus in almost every chance I get haha ~
I had a Galaxy Nexus and a Xoom 10" Wi-Fi.
I sold the Galaxy Nexus to buy my Note 2.
I've not used my Xoom since. I considered selling it, but i won't get enough money for it to be worth it, so i'm keeping it to use on plane journeys.
Gave my Nexus 7 to the wife and my Galaxy Nexus to my daughter. My GN2 replaced those 2 devices perfectly.

Got my new device last night.
Utterly over the moon so far. Unbelievably fast, ridiculously big and colourful screen, and just an all round great device. Heck, even the Samsung keyboard seems up there with Swiftkey my previous favourite keyboard (it seems uncanny at guessing what I'm going to write next).
Only downside is TouchWiz is, in places, still a little aesthetically challenged, but I'll change that with some of the themes posted on these very forums to make it look a little more "Vanilla" like.
I like my Note II and 13" MBA combo so much that my iPad gets little use, so I sold it last week.:good:
