[Q] Data doesn't work in 3G mode - G2 and Desire Z General

I've had my phone for over a year now, and I love it except one strange quirk. I'm with T-Mobile in the midwest, and whenever my phone says 3G, no data works. Everything is fine when it says 'H'. When I'm browsing the internet, I see the status shifting from H to 3G every 30 seconds or so for a duration of about a couple seconds. When the phone is on 3G, the website stops loading, and no data works (even syncing with mail stops). The second it switches back to H, everything works 100% again. Anyone know what's going on with 3G?
Another example is Youtube buffering. When the phone is on H, I see the buffer bar fill up. When it switches to 3G, the bar stops. When it switches back to H, the bar moves again.
I love the HSPA speed, but having it cut out completely fairly often has become a huge annoyance.

Found another thread that had the same issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069844&highlight=3g+hspa
But the people there weren't noticing any lag at all while on my phone, there is clearly no data transfer occurring when the phone displays 3G. Also, if this is indeed some sort of power save feature, shouldn't there be no flopping if you're actively browsing? I see it switching fairly regularly while browsing/downloading, and data completely stops when the phone switches to 3G.

Found a few other threads suggesting to set hsxpa=0 in the build.prop.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=911728
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=963780
However, once I did this, I still get the H/3G flipping which is odd since I thought the hsxpa=0 would disable H? What's going on here?

Played around with the numbers, and setting it to 1 forces 3G mode only. Hope this helps anyone else!

Big Issue - Can Make Calls But Not Receive

I have had a wizard for about a month now with few issues. After the first couple days I settled on Jaguar 4.0 ROM, and it has been working great except for a few times when it freezes / won't let me unlock the screen to use it.
However, the past few days a big issue has come about. I can make calls easily, but I cannot receive them. People say it goes straight to my voicemail. My phone doesn't ring, doesn't tell me I have missed calls, doesn't tell me I have voicemail.
Last night I found one thing that may be part of the problem. On the top, it shows the network strength - this is always strong. To the left of that, it SHOULD show an 'E' symbol, possibly for the edge network (at&t) ? Anyways, I know the E is there when it works. I can also connect to internet via GPRS when this is there. Lately, that E symbol no longer shows up. Intead, it has a different symbol with an 'x' on it (two arrows in opposite directions with a small x). At first I thought this just meant I wasn't connected to the internet for data usage at that time, but I've learned that I cannot receive calls either. If I try to connect to the internet, it says connecting but never connects.
If I click around in the menus and connection menus, or reset the phone (sometimes), eventually I can get the 'E' to show again and the phone is working like it should (not sure how to actually get it back, but after clicking around in menus I can). However, it doesn't stay. It seems to stay on a few minutes, I think everything is ok, and then I look at my phone 30 minutes later and that symbol is gone, thus I am no longer receiving calls.
It's weird, because I can make calls easily regardless of the symbol there. I'm clearly connected to the network, have a signal, etc. I've checked flight mode, which is always off. I've checked settings and everything looks ok.
Any ideas on what is going on or how to fix this?
Edit: Note - Turning flight mode ON and then OFF seems to get the E back and the connection restored properly. I think the same happens by turning the phone OFF then ON. However, it only stays fixed temporarily (less than 30 minutes) and gives no notice the proper connection is lost. I just find out next time I look at the phone and see it's not working and find out I've missed important phone calls.

3G and H Icon

Up until yesterday i was nearly always getting then H (hsdpa) icon on my Hero. Now im getting the 3G icon. But when i use an app that required the data connection it changed to H. It's annoying because it takes around 5-10 seconds to change and while its changing the app doesnt seem to have any data connection.
Does anyone else experience this? And can anyone tell me why up until yesterday it was always H and now only goes to H when the data connection is needed? I haven't changed any settings or installed anything in the past few days.
It may just be your providers local cell tower that is having issues rather than the Hero. Drop them a call first to see if there are any reported problems.
According to my provider theirs no issues in my area.
I just dont understand how mine can change from always being a H to being 3G changing to H when i use data. It's really annoying because when i open browser it takes around 10 seconds for the 3G to change to H and in that time no pages load. Then if i stay on one page for a while and move to another the H has gone back to 3G so takes another 10 seconds to change.
Could anyone who gets the H symbol please do me a favour? When you wake your phone from sleep is the H symbol always showing or is it sometimes 3G changing to H when you use any app that requires data?
Thanks
I think my H icon works as it should here in Finland. H is shown only when some data is being transferred, hence it is not always being displayed when I wake the screen. Sometimes it is shown, but I think then some widget or FB integration or something like that is being updated / synchronized.
I really feel that this is correct behavior, HSPA would suck your battery dry quite fast if it would be always on.

I think your right with it being the correct behaviour. Even though it takes an extra few seconds to start the connection when browsing etc it does seem that my battery is lasting longer. Now if i could just find a way of getting it to display 3G instead of H when away from my house.

I think there's no way of crippling the HSPA functionality of the phone, phone makes the selection of using HSPA (or not) based on network's decision (decided on coverage & various measurements) and capability.

HD2 Radio Has Horrible Instability

Is anyone else here having similar problems with the radio on their HD2? Mine seems to crap out severely when it comes to 3G. I have notice dhtat just about every time the phone is powered on, it will turn the data connection in the settings off by default regardless of It's state when the phone was previously powered on.
Also, I have noticed sometimes the phone will sporadically switch out of 3G mode and into phone only mode and I must go into the settings menu and re-enable it.
Also, Sometimes (The phone has done this twice today so far), the phone will still indicate that it is in 3G mode but when I attempt to browse the web it will return a page cannot be found error and the only way to fix this is to go into settings, disable and then re-enable the data connection.
My current radio version is 2.08.50.08_2. Is there something better out there?
I had the same problem with the data connection shutting off. I downloaded HD2Tweak and it helped keep it on.

It's been a while, but I think I got it here. It was the English version.
http://www.montecristoff.com/hd2tweak.htm
Under "4. Data", I turned on Internet, MMS and Data to be on permanently. Worked like a charm. First day, I had 13 hours straight of data connection. Before using HD2Tweaks, I never had more than 20-30 minutes.
I've noticed today the 3G connection went from full bars to none and also no phone bars.. and it reconnected again.
Sometimes it will not reconnect to signal for a while after I leave underground train station.
In areas of weak-medium signal strength, I've noticed it switch between E and 3G a lot and drain battery much faster.
The signal reception is generally excellent in the city, except if inside a building with thick walls, so I don't understand why it has signal issues when outside.

issue regarding constant network switching.

OK got my galaxy however got some concerns regarding the constant network switching from H to 3g. I know am in a area of very good network coverage so that is not the issue but I have noticed my phone keeps switching between the H and 3g. It seems to change to H when the a connection is required for instance now as am typing its on 3g, however when a data connection is required it then changes to H, however as am typing it sometimes just switches to H even though am not using the data connection. I can probably see the logic here for the phone to switch to H when a data connection is needed but am thinking all this constant switching must somehow impact on the battery. Av, always used the app by Philip Mangelow the network app, to set the phone to gsm auto prl, which apparently is the best setting to use as it stops the radio from constantly searching for the network, however the same app, won't work on galaxy. Is their any code or tweek required to enable gsm auto prl.?
Yup, this happens on all phones I have( DHD, Nexus S, SGS2).
It will show H or H+ (if you have HSPA+ coverage ) when its actually downloading /uploading data. There was an article on the web that explained why its done. I will search for it again as I didnt bookmark it. But this actually increases the standby time of the phone and reduces battery drain.

Cheers matey looking forward to seeing that article cause have used quiet and few android phones and never had this before, and if it's good for battery then fine but would still prefer to set that gsm auto prl setting so if anyone has any suggestions please.
Exact same problem here! the strange thing is my SGS1 was always on H.
getting same, mine goes on 3g then changes to H, I think this is draining my battery, i full charged phone overnight and took it of this morning on 100% i went on XDA app for about 20 mins and i used 6% battery life just using this and nothing else. that to me seems like a huge drain
I set a toggle switch to turn off data when not needed? This may help in battery life, but im not sure why it keeps witching from H to 3g?
I suppose its not a big deal i guess, it doesnt seen to affect my battery life.
ok, surely this cannot be good for the battery, i have noticed, whenever, i unlock my phone, it shows H high speed, but when unlocked it goes into 3g. Surely, the phone is supposed to be on 3G when screen of the H, when i turn screen on to use it?.

Mobile data problem

Hey guys,
I just noticed something weird with my priv.
Everytime I use mobile data I normally get H+. But as soon as the mobiledata isn't used it switches over to 3g and once something uses the internet it takes a few seconds, nothing is loading, then it switches over to H+ and loads the page/whatever really fast.
I noticed this by playing pokemon go.
Everytime I am just standing around and no data is sent the connection indicator shows 3G. As soon as I try to catch a pokemon, open a gym or something else it takes some time to load while showing 3g, then switches over H+ and then it loads instantly.
It feels like some kind of battery saver but I just couldn't find any settings.
Does anyone else got the same problem? Maybe even a solution?
~ .K'
ps: Atm. I am using the latest MM beta but I also had the problem on the previous MM beta.
