Samsung Galaxy S III Predictions - Galaxy S III General

So we all know MWC is approaching soon... Samsung will announce the new SIII...
What are your predictions for the specs for the next Gen of Galaxy S?
Please post specs that you'd think will appear on it, not what you want on it,
e.g - quad core, 4D 1080p display, 4gb RAM, SuperDuper Plus AMOLED Display etc are unlikely tto come
What I think, based on leaks etc:
(*) 4.3" screen
(*) qHD Super Amoled Plus
(*) Possibly 3D display
(*) Dual Core 2nd Gen Exynos CPU @ 2Ghz
(*) 1GB RAM
(*) Same 16GB Storage
(*) 12MP Camera, Front Facing 2MP
(*) Thinner Design
(*) Possibly Lighter
(*) Smaller size (smaller footprint)
(*) Slightly Larger Battery Capacity
(*) TouchWiz 5.0 + ICS 4.0.3
So, I don't think it will be a earth shattering upgrade, but a decent one.
Please post what you think will be on the Samsung Galaxy S III

No one would buy that phone with those specs, the nexus/rezound already sport 720p, the sgs3 needs that at the minimum.
16gb storage was nice 2 years ago, it needs to be bumped upto 32gb now.

Ah, I guess I made a mistake!
I thought qHD was the same number of pixels as 720p. I guess not!

I dont think there will be an sIII in my opinion think they may change it to something new

With the HTC edge and zeta set for early 2012 I think it'd be a good idea for the next galaxy to have quad core, 720p screen minimum and at least 32gb internal memory with sdxc micro SD card support.
sent from I9100 using Omega

various Korean tech and news websites suggests that Galaxy III will have
1.8Ghz Quadcore Exinos 4412 Processor
2Gig RAM
4.65" Super AMOLED + HD display
LTE and other standard connectivities..
There are also speculations that Samsung may not have GIII ready for WMC

samsungmobileus tweeted that what would be the next next big thing in 2012?
so get ready...

PLASTIC BODY Love it or hate it. Samsung really loves plastic/polymer..

(*) 4.5" screen
(*) FULL 1080p HD, Gorilla Glass Super Amoled Plus screen
(*) Dual Core 2nd Gen Exynos CPU @ 2Ghz
(*) 1GB+ RAM
(*) 16GB Storage
(*) 10MP Camera, Front Facing 2MP
(*) Same size in thickness
(*) Possibly Lighter
(*) Full plastic body, of course
(*) 2000 mAH Larger Battery Capacity
(*) TouchWiz 5.0 + ICS 4.1.0 !

(*)4.5in 720p HD OLED + screen
(*) Gorilla glass v2.0
(*) Dual core 2nd GEN Exynos 2.5GZ(OC,ed)
(*) 2GB of DDR3 RAM
(*) 32-128GB of Storage
(*) 16MP,2MP ( The leak of a 16MP cam by samsung)
(*)BlueT v4
(*) HDMI v1.4 at 3GZ for 4k video out. (I hope)
(*) water resistant (I think the razr set the bar on this. I will buy the phone if true.)
(*) Mali-T658( I hope, but the T604 is more likey.)
(*) LTE 700MHZ/800MHZ
P.S I can't wait to see one even if I will not buy one.

What I want is a quality sound chip like we did in first Galaxy S, the rest is detail.

There is no such thing as Gorilla Glass v2.0.
The Razr just has Gorilla Glass. Nothing more special than the Gorilla Glass on any other phone.

I think I'd be happy if it just had the follows:
* Either QuadCore or 2.2Ghz+ clocked Exynos processor
* 2GB Ram
* 720p OLED screen
* More than a day's battery life, and replacable
* Hot-Swap MicroSD
* 4G Option for the UK (Spectrum is auctioned in October in the UK, trials have been running since Q3 last year!)
* NFC
* Same dimensions as S2 (I don't think the phone needs to be above 4.3" for a phone with a 720p screen!

+1 !! If the SGS3 gets anything as good as the Wolfson DAC in the original SGS and not the crappy Yamaha like in the SGS2, that'll be possibly the most beneficial thing for future Samsung customers!

Moving to General as has nothing to do with the S II

I could see everything beeing true expect the 3D screen and the CPU...I think samsung will use there own ORION chip...unless Honeycomb is optimized for Tegra 2!
Damm god... This must cost about 2 000 dollars
Right, and we're going to trust SamFirmware ? These guys have a history of spewing nonsense and sensationalist stuff just to get pageviews.
I sincerely doubt these specs are real.
wow, 3D screen
I am ready to bet my car that this is not gonna happen. The upgraded version might be a samoled screen but def not 3d, it might have a 5mp sensor on the back, still 1.3 in front. The most storage will be 32gb, but 16gb more likely.

Well, seeing as Samsung doesn't even have a factory yet capable of producing 7" AMOLED screens, I doubt we're going to see the Tab 2 in stores before September 2011.
If we can trust a youtube user is this the new Galaxy Tab Specifications.

[OFFTOPIC] Nexus Two Requests and Suggestions

Just wondering what specs you guys want to see on the next Pure Google phone.
Manufacturer: Manufactured by HTC/Motorola

Camera: 8 MP camera with Xenon flash
Flat back and front (no bulging camera coming from the back)

this topic would have been better suited if you posted it at Google's own forums for Nexus.
But just for fun:
any manufacturer
I'd go for anything that offers SAMOLED or SAMOLED Plus
4" or 4.3" screen
Dual Core 1.2 Ghz CPU
3600 mAh battery
paper thin, no thicker than credit card
FM/AM radio reception
WiFi ABGNX

Manufacturer: Samsung
Display: 4 inch, calibrated Super AMOLED+
Processor: 1.2 Ghz Dual-Core
Camera: Doesnt matter, I think the Nexus S's camera is good enough
Round corners, curves. Contour display.
1 GB RAM
16/32 GB ROM
SD CARD SLOT
4G
Build material: Plastic, but a little more grip at the back. Black.
The reason I am going for Samsung again, is because I like their hardware. As you can see the device I want looks like an upgraded Nexus S. I think the design of the Nexus S is fantastic, but a little more grip would do it for the back. Also, Super AMOLED+ got rid of many of the disadvantages Super AMOLED had, like PenTile. Only thing that bothers me is that the colors are a little bit too oversaturated. That is why I like LCD better, for now.
But it would be awesome if there was a way to calibrate the colors, so that you can choose normal (like Motorola Droid), oversaturated (like Galaxy S) or custom. That, with the advantages of LED, and no stupid PenTile, would be an awesome display!
Realistically, the next Nexus would probably be something like this:
Manufacturer: Motorola or HTC
Display: 4-4.3" 960x640 to 1280x720 resolution (either sLCD or sAMOLED)
CPU: OMAP4 or Tegra 2 for Motorola, QSD8672 for HTC (all dual core)
GPU: SGX540 for OMAP4, Adreno 220 for HTC
RAM: 1GB LPDDR-266
Storage: 16/32GB plus microSD
Camera: 8MP with flash
Misc: Dual mic, FFC, 4G, NFC, Wireless b/g/n, 1600mAh battery, ~9mm thick
What would I like to see (while still within the realm of reality)?
Manufacturer: HTC
Display: 4-inch 1280x720 (any sort of OLED, Sony is working on some nice displays)
CPU: Qualcomm MSM8960 (1.5GHz dual core)
GPU: Adreno 300 (200m+ tri/s)
RAM: 1GB LPDDR-400
Storage: 16GB (to keep costs down) plus mircoSD
Camera: 12MP microlense zooming with dual LED flash
Misc: Dual mic, FFC, 4G, NFC, Wireless b/g/n, 1800mAh battery, ~9mm thick
guys, what about a nexus from nokia?
now for me that would be a dream come true. the best combo of hardweare and softweare. it could be a great hit. i would love for something like this ro become a reality.
anybody agree with me on that one, or am i just a lone dreamer?...
on the other topic it was already said to be a joke only when he mentioned
but Nokia is indeed looking to partner up with other OS markers
but there are no solid confirmation if they are going one way or another
they basically opened the doors and are inviting prospective OS partners for their phones
don't be surprised to see a Nokia running Apple's iOS
but chances seems to be Nokia seems to be favoring Microsoft
however Android has the market dominance in the long run, it'll not be smart for Nokia to not choose Android and partner with Google
if they do, we'll most likely see "Nexus N"
I just hope the Nexus 2 will be made by a company with better outer casing

I guess so but there really is nothing bad with the shell of the NS. It only feels cheap because its glossy plastic. I've dropped my phone quite a few times and its never even chipped. I have no scratches on the screen or the back. I'm quite happy with the SNS and my only hope for the next Nexus is just that it be better than anything else on the market

A drop of Chuck Norris's semen was placed on the IPhone. We now have the Htc Evo.
The Evo, maybe with the touch buttons a little lower and thus the screen a little bigger to fill that area.
With a dual-core tegra 2 and the fastest GPU out there with 16 GB ROM, 2 GB RAM.
Maybe a bigger battery if possible too.
Couldn't imagine a better phone.

-Unibody Aluminum/Plastic Design
-Kickstand in the middle
-Sexier form factor instead of the standard squared look
-Better GPU
-More RAM
-More internal HD space
-Dual Core
-Better FFC resolution

I guess it'd need to be equipped with a time machine so the phone can go into the future and equip itself with new technologies and then come back to present day. Oh, and most importantly, release it here in the U.S. without waiting for carriers!

Much agreed! In my experience with Exynos and Tegra 2, the Exynos is easily WAY superior compared to the T2. The fact that the Exynos can run Tegra 2 games already (with Chainfire 3D), in some cases better than an actual T2 (!), should speak volumes towards it's capabilities. I can't wait to see how Samsung answers to nVidia's competing Tegra 3. It'll be interesting to see how a 2ghz+ big-LITTLE cortex A15 dual-core chip stacks up against the T3's legacy cortex A9 quad-core.
- Stereo speakers with decent volume and placement
- Decent headphone output
- hotswapable microSD slot
- Serperate microHDMI and microUSB ports
- No hardware buttons for a bigger screen

After Careful Analysis of Trends and Rumors, here is what I think of the S3 / Note 2!

Well, after cross-referencing other sources, it is very well likely for the below specifications to appear on new models this year. Applicable to S3 and Note 2. - Cheers!
Next Month Samsung will be announcing who knows, how many new devices. One of the expected models is the Galaxy S3 and possibly, Note 2.
I can say the S3 will have the following after doing a careful analysis of trends and rumors,
4.5" SAMOLED HD Pentile or RGB/Plus Display with 3D (also known as Super AMOLED III) with 1280x720 Resolution, Lotus Glass
1.5 GHz Quad Core Processor 32nm (Exynos 4412 with Mali T604)
2gb LPDDR2, DDR2 or DDR3 Ram (Dual Channel)
16 or 12 Megapixel Lens Rear Camera (Samsung Technology)
3.2 Megapixel Front Camera with Face Detection
16gb or 32gb Built in Memory Expandable up to 64GB
Bluetooth 4.0
Built In NFC
Ice Cream Sandwich
2000mAh Battery
HzO Technology--water-proof technology
ETA--Late Spring, 2012
Who wants to bet?!
I can say the Note 2 will have the following after doing a careful analysis of trends and rumors,
5.3" SAMOLED HD Pentile Display with 3D (also known as Super AMOLED III) with 1280x800 Resolution, Lotus Glass
1.8 GHz Quad Core Processor 32nm (Exynos 4412 with Mali T604) or 2.0GHz Dual Core Processor 32nm (Exynos 5250 with Mali T604)
2gb LPDDR2, DDR2 or DDR3 Ram
16 or 12 Megapixel Lens Rear Camera (Samsung Technology)
3.2 Megapixel Front Camera with Face Detection
16gb or 32gb Built in Memory Expandable up to 64GB
Bluetooth 4.0 (or possibly 5.0)
USB 3.0
Built In NFC
Ice Cream Sandwich
2750mAh Battery
HzO Technology--water-proof technology

A 4.5" inch screen is more probable. I agree.
Well, a possible release date of Jelly Bean has yet to be confirmed. And if released in August this year, this certainly will not be in the Note 2. Jelly Bean will first arrive in Nexus 4 and it will take developers a few weeks to overlay their UI's on newer models
Touchwiz 5.0 is obvious for new devices coming out with ICS, so no need to include that in the specifications. Existing S2 and and Note will have ICS soon, but with the existing Touchwiz 4.0 interface.
16MP looks promising since sensors were already introduced late last year, Oct. 2011
Battery seems to be appropriate for the S2, since the battery compartment size will be able accommodate larger batteries due to the .2" inch increase in screen size.
3D may or may not appear. What remains suspicious is how Samsung decided to refer their new AMOLED displays as SAMOLED 3. HEY, YOU NEVER KNOW!
HzO is a possibility, but seeing that Samsung has to shell extra money out of their pockets puts this feature into question.
2GB will be able to accommodate more processes to run in the background, and since the CPU will be bumped, 2GB doesn't look like too much.
The Exynos 5250 (A15) that you are referring to may be featured in Phablets and or Tablets. This we will have to wait and see.
I think a lot of these updates are obvious, so as the clock ticks, we sit down and think.
Just dreams

What analysis? Have you been tracking CPU developments and historical lead times for flagship phones? Very cool if you have been.
Upgrading S3 to Nexus size makes sense. But 2.0ghz is a big jump. Is that equivelant rank/cost of 1.2ghz when S2 was new?
Note 2 going quad... well of ALL the phones on the market this would make most sense. Note should be first with Quad.
2GB sounds nice but doesn't smell right. I hope my phone doesn't turn into a bloated POS like windows that needs 1GB RAM and 1GHz CPU just to run!
3d... who knows. If they think it will make them money then sure. They are using all their ammo on Apple and not saving stuff till later like many companies often do. Let's hope they make it as good as they can and save nothing for the S4 / Note2 ;-)

Sad, but true, I have been following the CPU development and historical lead times of flagship phones in a way that presents itself more practically.
It would sound logical to bump the speed to 2.0 GHz since Exynos 4210 can be overclocked to 1.8 GHz stable. Samsung comfortably bumped the Note to 1.4GHz--gives every reason to believe another speed bump is likely for later flagship phones from the company.
I wouldn't be surprised though, if Samsung made USB 3.0 debut on the Galaxy Note 2. There are initial reports that USB 3.0 will be introduced in mobile phones later this year. If the Note 2 releases in Early Fall, then there is time for Samsung to make changes to its PCB diagram in order to accommodate USB 3.0

I would bet, but that would be just stealing your money.
1) No 3D... Sorry Samsung hasn't committed to it and WILL NOT until 3D actually matures
2) HzO is possible... but highly IMPROBABLE. Why would Samsung cut out of its own Profits for something that isn't quite necessary in the 2012 year ??
3) Battery sizes are way off. The SGSII should be lower (~2,000mAh) and NOTE2 should be higher (~3,000mAh) from my estimates
4) Camera performance is wrong. Samsung makes the best lenses in any smartphone (besides Nokia) but they do so in small increments to just match the competition and not completely overwhelm them. 12MP is what will be released.
5) 2GB RAM is way too much. Its just a waste of resources. I am telling you now that it will still be 1GB RAM or 1.5GB, nothing more.
6) Processors. Samsung has proven this last two releases to be superior to the competition but not by a large margin. 2012 will see tricore and quadcore A9's and possibly a dual-A15 before the years end.
Quadcore makes no sense for Android.
Tricore is much better (same performance, better battery life).
But the chip makers are not making any tricores, so indeed the SIII will have a Quadcore A9.
The NOTE successor (if there's one in the works) should get a beefier Quadcore A9, otherwise it will be one of the first to get the next-gen A15 chip.
7) SGSIII won't have a 4.65in screen. That would inflate the device's body larger than the SII. I think a more modest 4.5in screen will arrive.
8) You failed to mention OS, which is just as important as those specs. Obviously the SIII and NOTE2 will come with ICS. But Samsung is making a new version of TouchWizz (v5) which may debut on the NOTE2 (if your lucky on the S3). Remember Android 5.0 JellyBean will be out around August bringing a few "Groundbreaking" features that were left out from ICS.
I like your ideas, they would make a good successor but you don't know this industry that well.
Have you noticed the shift from Nexus One to Nexus S?
-much more polished, fluid, easy experience but not really an upgrade compared to the competition (eg Galaxy S)
Or the shift from Nexus S to Galaxy Nexus?
-modest upgrade but a SII is still in the same league and the NOTE is superior to what is suppposed to be "Androids best".
I will post a more accurate description of the successors (if any) soon.

Some of your points I agree with; some I do not know enough about to comment on. This one however I disagree with. It's true that 2GB would be a waste of resources given the current demands of Android and common apps, but in the consumer electronics and computing industries they don't always go on what a device needs.
External platter-based hard drives do not need USB 3.0. LCD TVs do not need ridiculous 600Hz refresh rates. If it costs very little to increase the hardware to a level where they can market it further, that's often enough for them to do it. RAM is so cheap to manufacture right now that it wouldn't surprise me if they did start using 2GB or even more in Android phones. That's not to say it will happen; just that the fact it would be a waste doesn't mean it won't.

I'm sure if 3D is implemented, there will be an option to disable / enable it. Not a biggie, lol. I think the chances of 3D is 60/40.

Those points I agree with, you should update the OP (first post).
I also want to add:
-At 4.5in the SIII will have the same phsyical size as the SII since the Navigation buttons will be replaced with the on-screen ones
-There's new additional features for the SIII (LTE, NFC, Barometre, etc etc) which also takes up space in the phone
-Therefore, the increase in battery capacity will be limited to current technology (which is why 2,000mAh seems more plausible)
-Note: it doesn't cost much to bump 2AH to 2.3AH material wise, but it costs much more for the machines that make those batteries to properly stack the cloth of lithium.
-Apple and Samsung are direct competitors for cameras. They both try to match each others specs (not to surpass it). The difference in performance of 16MP and 12MP isn't much different but as a marketing tool it is.
Samsung has many lenses 0.3MP, 1.3MP, 2MP, 3.2MP, 5MP, 8MP, 12MP, 14.1MP, 16MP, 17.3MP for mobile devices.
So marketing wise, Samsung is more poised to choose a 12MP rear lens.
We know the SIII will be released before the NOTE2, and the fact that NOTE is supposed to be a beefier and larger version of Galaxy S.

Thing is, if the A15 performs as well as ARM claims, a dual core 2.0GHz Exynos 5250 should handily outperform a quad-core Tegra 3 (at the current 1.3GHz multicore speed) in CPU related tasks, in addition to being cheaper to manufacture and much much easier on power (28nm die size)
A15 is supposed to be 40% faster than A9 at the same clock speed, and the 5250 is being launched at 2.0GHz, which would give it TWICE the performance of the current N7000 Note (or Tab 7.7), CPU-wise.
That's not what I'd consider "low-end" for 2012.
^^^ I'd figure since Samsung plans to refresh its entire Galaxy Range of Products
5250 won't appear in devices 'till late this year--probably Q3
Unless Samsung makes an ultra-portable camera (smaller than compact) for mass market then 16MP that was introduced late last year, is reasonable for such a thing. However, since 16MP sensor is intended for mobile devices, and Samsung is already ready to put forward this to mass production-- chances are, we might see this in high-end devices this year, regardless. Just a thought...
